Google apps not working on home wifi? Works flawless once no sim - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Just like the title says. My phone doesn't load the Google play store, YouTube, or maps. Everything else, all apps work fine. I did all the cache/data reset methods etc even went as far as factory reset, no avail.
The main issue is it only doesn't work on my home wifi, when connected to other people's wifi and mobile data, it works just fine to load.
To get it to work on my house wifi I have to take out the sim card and then it starts to work just fine and loads quickly without problems. The Google apps work on other Android devices on the same wifi flawlessly as well, so I'm pinning it down as a sim card issue, but how can that be? Maybe I should try to replace the sim card but I'm not sure. (Would have to have a talk with my mom as well to get it replaced due to me just being 15)
Suggestions would be appreciated.

That's weird... I don't know why a SIM card would do that... You've tried a factory reset and that didn't work... You might want to get in a chat with a Samsung representative and look into a replacement phone. Or you could try replacing the SIM card first and see if that works. Do you have an extra SIM card lying around? It doesn't even have to be activated. If you do, try inserting that SIM into your phone and seeing if that fixes the problem. If not, then I would recommend you getting a replacement SIM and/or phone.

It is weird. I think I might try to download the marshmallow ROM in the general thread for Verizon and install it to start a new a new maybe there's a kink within the software itself, and it'll suck to have to get another replacement because this is my replacement lol. Assuming the install isn't too complicated and doesn't harm my phone. I'm fairly capable though since I remember my s3 days on at&t and custom romming that phone.
FYI forgot to mention I think this started happening a few days ago.

Go ahead and try that, though I have been having a few problems myself with the Android 6 ROM (very minor problems, though). If that doesn't work, I would recommend you try to get another replacement.

:victory: sorry for needlessly opening a thread for this, but for some reason, the Google apps now finally work on my house wifi, strange that my phone was the only device that couldn't connect to YouTube or Google play even after a factory reset, while other Android devices worked fine (thank God for Samsung smart switch so nothing was lost in the process)

That's good to hear. One of the problems I'm having with the Android 6 ROM is that the YouTube app will sometimes freeze, but I probably just need to reinstall the app.

[Q] Bypass SIM Activation Android 3.2 - 4G LTE

Hey guys,
In an attempt to root my 10.1 Verizon 4g LTE, I ended up deleting stuff and resetting everything. Now it asks for SIM activation.
I have been Tabless for a few days now and need to fix this asap
Do you guys have any other idea how to bypass the SIM activation?
Thanks for the help.
PS. I do not have a SIM card.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Help an Android brother out!
pleaaaz.
It would help if you actually posted this with an explination of what you did step by step. We cant help if we dont know what you did....
In all the LTE flashing I've done thus far I haven't had an issue like this on my tab. Then again I've never tried flashing any other ROMs than those identified as specific for this tab either (which basically amounts to just the liquidspeed one and the leaked 3.2).
At this point it's not clear if you're on a restored stock ROM or you're using something else since as Tdiliplane pointed out you haven't provided enough information.
More info
Thanks for looking into it. Here is more info:
I have Galaxy Tab 10.1, Verizon 4g LTE version. A couple of weeks ago it updated itself to Android 3.2. I tried rooting it so I could install TouchScreenTune.
Not sure what went wrong, but I was not able to connect to wifi. I decided to do a factory reset.
When the tab restarted, it asked for the sim card. The problem is that I don't have a sim card and I would like to just bypass this message and use the tab as a wifi device.
I read in this forum and others that pushing volume up and down combination or touching the four corners + volume up bypasses the sim card prompt, but this did not work for me.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Ok now that makes sense and I'm not sure how to help you.
You're basically on stock Verizon ROM right now and it sounds like it's going through the default setup scripts when it's booting up since you did a factory reset.
Maybe one of the other guys out there that has this tab without SIM can chime in, personally I have a data plan so I'm of no help. I'm wondering if flashing one of the stock ROMs for the verizon tab from this site via odin would be helpful or if those too are going to ask for a SIM card.

Well, this may sound obvious, but any chance you have a Verizon 4G phone with a micro sim or know someone that does? I've swapped my RAZR micro with my tablet from time to time without issue. As far as I can tell the tablet only goes through the SIM Activation on first setup/new ROM. Once the activation check is done you can run the tablet without the SIM even inserted... I've done that too... just using WiFi instead... just to see what would happen if I decide to cancel VZW services.

... nope, I have ATT on my phone, I tried usiing but it didn't work... and I don't know anyone who used verision 4G... I will probably go to a verizon store to see what they say.
This is just weird.
I went to a Verison store. They were really nice. The gave me a new card! they wanted to help by I had to leave. So I came back home inserted the card, about 10 minutes later it says: "There is a problem activaiting your tablet. Please restart and try again, or contact customer service."
I restarted a million time in vain.
The Sim card they gave you may not have been activated or linked to an active account...
"people are bloody ignorant apes" ESTRAGON, Waiting for Godot.
I got it to work. I WAS able to bypass the activation message by tapping the four corners of the SCREEN + volume up. The first time I read about this the guy said touch the top left corner, right corner.... of the tab. Ignorant me, I was touching the external corners of the tab. Till I re-read detials of this method on another forum that explicitly says touch the )(*&^^%%$$#@@@ screen.
Anyway, thank you guys for you help.

LMAO!! Well I'm glad you kept trying and got that all sorted.
i have one - and have original sim but device stuck on please wait while your tablet is prepared and dont go to next screen , combination bottom left e.t.с dont working on any official firmware
It worked for me on stock ROM. Are you tapping the corners of the screen or the edges outside of the screen. My mistakes is that I was tapping outside the frame, the metal parts.
Please, I really desperatelly need an advice on this , I bought a used Gtab 10.1 LTE from ebay and since I got it I cant bypass the activation screen , don have sim either to activate it. I tried the four corners plus volume up but nothing happens ... Paid $400 for a useless tablet I belive it comes with stock android but not sure as I cant get to the info screen. Can somebody upload a video showing the activation bypass process ? I think I am doing it well tapping on the four corners of the SCREEN (not the frame) , top left, top right , bottom left (as if i tap back android control), bottom right (as if I tap on the battery status) and then press volume up once, but it only ends increasing the volume ....
Any help is so much appreciated. Thanks!

i have the same problem
Well , never found an easy way (aka secret code or buttons combination) to bypass activation screen on this thing. What I had to to is to root the device, then oppening settings tab with help of the phisycal OEM keyboard then going to about tablet/legal information/open code licences and selecting any text from there then from the upper menu select web search so you get to the web browser so you can google for Home Manager apk , install it and run it, now just select launcher from the app (make sure to set ti as default) and it will get you straight to the home screen where you can now access all device's features and menus but there is still a last step, go to the play store, search for and install titanium backup and freeze or remove UICCActivation process so it wont ever asks for activation again (unless you restore your tab again) and you will be able to fully use your unactivated tablet now. If someone finds an easier method for bypassing activation on this model on android 3.2+ would be great to have it posted here.

Then it may not be you efs folder (IMEI!) becoming corrupted after all! Try cleaning the contacts on your sim & inside your phone & make sure none of the pins are bent or broken internally also, then try somebody elses sim card in your phone first before replacing your own! If your sim works in another phone then it's got to be something to do with the contacts/pins, as you haven't flashed your phone or anything to corrupt stuff in the first place!!

Annoyed with Android
I have the exact same symptoms except I did not play around with any software updates or “internal settings”. The memory on my phone was filled with photos I took over the weekend and some apps refused to start up because of the lack of memory. Probably the mistake, I took the SD card out to try to read it from my Win 7 notebook, because the “Gallery App” did not want to open to allow me to delete of some images to free up memory. (Well why not, most other equipment allow their SD cards to be read by Windows.)
Whatever the reason the phone is completely stuffed; the SD card is not recognised and that result in no phone connection!! The phone can't be used. This is absolutely ludicrous. One cannot sell equipment that can be made unusable this easily. I can understand maybe losing image/data on the SD card if I took it out, but now the entire phone is useless, and it seems (from other forums too) that it is quite a process to get the so-called IEMI folder back. I am really frustrated at this point and have a real annoyance with Android. Judging from the amount of hits returned after a Google search, this SD card problem is a fairly common one. I am not going to fix this; will rather get a new phone, one that works, and it will not be an Android phone. Yes I know hardcore Andriod followers will be all over my post, but just think a bit, this kind of problem should not happen and is really nonsense
(PS: People that moan about multiple postings, can't you just answer the question, even if there is another similar thread, do you have to nit pick on everything.)

- There is no need for you to start spamming this thread.
- Ask questions with common sense, that will help you get the much needed assistance.
- There no need for you to threaten anyone. If you are not going to buy Android device again, million more people will still buy it.
- You must understand that, people who give assistance here on XDA, do so without any monetary benefit. It's not your right to be given assistance, it's a privilege.
- Xda just like any other forum/organisation has rules and regulations, you must follow them.
- stop spamming around, it will only make things worse for you.

Apologies for the double messages. I tried to fix it numerous times, but it does not seem to take effect.
Jokesy, the fact people don’t get paid for commenting here is completely irrelevant; I also have a day job and don’t have 6 hours in the evening to get a phone to make a call. Pointing out severe problems with a product is not spamming.

Interesting...
I am in a similar situation with a t989 phone that doesn´t recognize my simcards.
Some days ago I tried to upgrade my phone to the latest official ICS using ODIN as KIES
was always giving disconnection errors before finishing the upgrade.
Finally I got my phone stuck at the download mode with an error message and a yellow warning triangle.
I thought I had a bricked phone, but fortunately I managed to recover it using an old
official ROM. The problems is that now it doesn´t recognize any simcard inserted.
The current installed software versions are:
Android 2.3.5
Base band: T989UVKID
Kernel version: 2.6.35.11
Compilation number: GINGERBREAD.UVKID

Important help needed -> Don't know if shutdown or freeze! App breakdown?

Simply putting this, i buyed a SGSII about a month ago, and since then it shutdows or freezes. I don't know what is wrong. I TRADED THE PHONE 3 TIMES!!! And all 3 times the phone has the SAME problem. It random shutdown/freeze(I don't know the difference). Theres almost 0% chance that the Vodafone store has 3 devices with teh exact same problem, when the 3rd SGSII i got(this one) is from a different package then the others....
So I ask here really kindly, who can help me if some1 already had some problem with some application I have installed. I leave here the screenshots of Google Play apps I have installed. Apart that i only have BBS.

Please understand me, I really want a phone that doesn't shutdow or freeze :/ I really need alarm for example in the morning and I can't even trust that to my phone since I can wake up and phone is just shutdown >,<
Update: Went 2 day again at the store, and they said that some faulty 4G SIM cards where causing problems(didnt specified which ones) and he traded me a new charger - This said, he told me that if problem still occurs to come talk to the sotre manager on monday...
If this helps, maybe it is causing the problem, if someone has this version of Android and reports it giving problems i would apreciate

Ill take it to the store then
So I went to Vodafone and first question they made was:
Have you changed your SIM card lately?
I todl them it had ~5years or something.
They said it may be the card.
I asked if this ever hapened.
They said never...
So i asked, if it never hapened why you say its because of SIM card?
---
And that was it. They told before anything I should change SIM and test if it still shuts down...
What you guys think? Anyways I'm gonna change SIM card to 4G one, since now Vodafone is obligating every1 to change, they gonna deactivate the old ones soon... Then i'm gonna see if phone goes down...
I just seems strange the phone goes down cause of SIM card with no signal or something... Anyone knows a answer to this?
Any1 knows osomething about this?

Dude, bumping your thread every couple of hours isnt going to achieve anything other then possibly it been closed or deleted.
Firstly people will reply when/if they have something to say. Second its New Years eve, most people are busy. Only reason why I'm not is because I'm not well at the moment so resting.
A sim card wouldnt make your phone shut down, hes talking crap. Also when you say "cant unlock" do you mean network unlock? If so then use the search button, we have plenty of topics on how to unlock network very easily, most/best are a simple app you install from market.
Don't take Vodafone's crap. Demand a replacement as the one they provided is faulty from day 1.
Try without a SIM too, this will prove that is not the problem.
Take Atheists advice and don't bump within a 24hr time frame, especially today/yesterday.

Are you sure on that? Seems they don't want to simply trade the phone, and wanna keep it for tests...
Though, 2 days passed and he doesn't shuts down...
Not entirely sure as I cannot test the phone myself but for a new phone to be playing up, it's not convenient and I would want a phone that works without crashing, especially from new.

Must be a faulty hardware, is that store reliable?
A brand new device has to run super smooth, if not, store's fault.
NunoPitbull said:
Am I the only one that thinks taht is really strange 2 phones have the same problem? And that they hold like 1 day or 4 (depends on the phones mood xD) and then shutsdown? xD
I wished someone informed enough on old SIM cards could clarify me if SIM has something to do or not
But I already went to the store, but they dont have any SGSII left lol Waiting for a new packages to come..

Look dude, you have been told OVER and OVER again that it couldn't be the sim card causing phone to reboot. Its either your hardware like your phone or battery or its your software, ie your rom or apps installed.
Have you even bothered trying other sim cards?
Tried factory reset?
Have you tried other rom?
Have you tried other kernel?
Have you got refund and gone elsewhere?
Have you read any of the replies here or in your duplicate threads?

With all due respect it seems you don't read the replies you say you bother to answer...
1- It doesn't reboots, it just shutdowns. Thats why I say my problem isn't found elsewhere therefore doesn't seems to be a ROM problem.
2- Since I have 14 days (and not the usual 30) to ready-exchange the device trying a SIM card won't be enough, since the phone can handle random time turned on without going down.
3/4 - I already changed the phone once, so same hardware flaw would be suspicioous since phones are tested and odds of getting a faulty hardware 2 times in a row with the exact swame faulty style is like 1/1000. Especially on recent SGSII.
5- Nope, i'm hoping i'll get a talk with Samsung(not vodafone) and talk to them if the third phone come with same problem.
6- Yes I did. But as I said on point 1) it seems you didn't read mines I asked for someone that has a sim card knowledge, since phones in the past DID shutdown due to low network/loss of signal causing phones to shutdown. But as I said to the Vodafone guy, i think its strange that a new phone such as most smartphones are to shutdown cause of SIM card beeing old/loosing signal with this 4G thing. But since i traded for this new SGSII and the SAME problem is hapening i tend to beleive is the SIM. Though I already asked Vodafone to send me a 4G card and if I get the third SGSII I will try to test the full 14 days I have to see if its the SIM card thats causing something or not.
Apart all of this, if any1 faced the same problem please tell me something(most likely will be from Portugal, who knows).

You haven't mentioned changing Roms or Kernels.
This to me sounds like a software issue.
This is not a Sim card issue!!!.
It might be wrong current or voltage issues, but this being a new phone would lead me straight back to it being a software issue.
I have a Galaxy S2 for over a year and had a load of random reboots or shutdowns. It always was a kernel issue, update to the latest or downgrade to the most stable always fixed it. So my advice try to fix the software before blaming the hardware. Try different kernels, Roms and if you are still having the problem then it is a hardware issue. Flash a stock Rom back on and your phone should still be under warranty. Goodluck
BTW this is hilarious: 1- It doesn't reboots, it just shutdowns. Thats why I say my problem isn't found elsewhere therefore doesn't seems to be a ROM problem.
That sounds like a Rom or Kernel problem. First thing I would check! Are you sure that it shut downs rather than just freezing?
Also I just noticed your on 4.0.4 there is problems with the version of android

He's been advised now multiple time in multiple topics to try new kernel or rom but he just keeps simple ignoring the advise or dismissing it and seems to be convinced its his sim card for some odd reason.
If he wants to create multiple topics asking for help (have them closed/deleted) and then ignore the advise and then wonder why he still has same issues then its his own fault and his own problem.

Whatsapp Virus spreading?

Hello everyone,
I might have a big problem.
This morning I booted my HTC One M7 as usual, and when it finished booting it opened a browser tap with a fake whatsapp update. I closed the browser immediately, and five minutes after this, the exact same thing happened. I started thinking how this could happend, and honestly I have no clue. All my apps are from the play store, and I only download documents for school. I haven't even downloaded a new app in the last week, however 15+ of my apps aren't up to date.
I scanned my phone with malwarebytes and it couldn't find anything. I rebooted my phone after the scan, and the problem seems to be gone. I was telling this story to a friend of mine this afternoon, and my mother said that she experienced the same thing, just a couple hours before I experienced it. After further investigation, it wasn't exactly the same. When she opened whatsapp, it asked her to do a weekly back-up of her chats. At first, she closed whatsapp, but when it appeared again, she clicked yes. She wasn't very clear about this, so I don't know if it was a fake menu, or the real deal. I have also scanned her Moto g (2013), and it found no malware.
I don't know if this could be harmfull. Especially because my parents use their phones for mobile banking.
This is a screenshot of my HTC
It could easily have been done through whatsapp. Part of the reason most people have stopped using it. Viruses run rampant I'm just about all of Facebook apps. And no anti virus will find them as they are vastly different then normal viruses.

In the Netherlands literally everybody uses it, but it's good to know that this could indeed happen! Should I be worried about this, and what should I do when it returns?

Yeah I heard alot of people in Europe use it alot, here in the states almost no one uses it really except for kids. Most have moved to hangouts.
If I was you I would completely back up the device and then wipe everything and reflash the device.
Things like this will not be picked up by so called virus scanners.
I'am afraid that it is something like ShiftyBug (https://blog.lookout.com/blog/2015/11/04/trojanized-adware/). In the article it says that you have to install apps from third parties, but I have almost never done that. I have downloaded popcorntime in the past, but I have deletet it almost 6 months ago.
I'm afraid that if I reflash my device, that it will come back fairly soon. Is it possible that it has spread over my wifi network? Because of the fact that my mother got something similar on the same day.
But how do I know for sure that it is a virus? After I restarted my phone (12 hours ago), it hasn't shown up yet. Am I worried for nothing, or is there a big chances that I'm infected?
Thank you for all your replies!

The key word there is almost. If you reflash the device and it comes back then it maybe something that someopne else downloaded and was shared through your network. As you said your mother also saw it so I would go through her phone as well.
There are many apps out there that do this that are in the play store. So it is all a matter of being careful.
There is a chance. If it is big or not depends on how you use your device. It could also have come from a website someone visited. Im not saying you did but many porn sites are set to infect devices when they visit them.
If it was me. I would just start from scratch with each device and make sure that all the things installed are legit.
You could also run a logcat and try to reproduce it. That would tell you what is causing it.
Doesn't seem dangerous.

Then you have not been paying attention. Any browser pop that tells you to update an app is 99% an infected apk. It is a common practice for those that take apks and re-package them with malware
After reading more i must admit you are right.... My bad:good:
So I have to flash my phone, aren't there any other options? And if not, how do I reflash The HTC firmware to my phone?
Should I make a back-up before doing this, won't the malware spread again if I instal the back-up on my phone?
Thanks again!
EDIT:
Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to reproduce the problem.
I still haven't been able to reproduce the pop-up.
I do propably know where the problem came from, a friend of mine sent me a older version of soundcloud (the new one can't cache music). I installed that app, decided that it was to old for me and deleted it. The malware must have spread right after the first use. I'm planning on flashing my phone inthe weekend.
EDIT: I can reprodce the pop-up! It's linked to opening the app 'night mode', this app was downloaded in the official play store 2 years ago. Since then it hasn't got a lot of updates though.
Hey,
Time for a little update.
Last weekend, I contacted HTC's customer support due to the fact that I couldn't find my software version. They told me that I should execute a RUU, but they couldn't find the right version, so I had to contact the Dutch customer support (I didn't do this in the first place because the Dutch customer support wasn't open in the weekend).
The next monday (23-11) I contacted the Dutch customer support and asked them for the ROM, and unfortunately due to the regulations they don't publish the ROM's. However, they told me to do a factory reset and that should solve the issue. Unfortunately, it didn't. After the reset, I now get a different Whatsapp pop-up once or twice a day. The pop-up isn't connected to opening an app, like it was before the reset.
A friend of mine experienced the same problem this week on his new Moto X. All the other phones in my home network don't have this problem.
I hope someone will be able to help me!
Thanks in advance!

Yes, we both use the wifi network at our high school. But I did the factory reset friday evening, and since then I haven't connected to that network.
It might have spread through that network though.

Depending on the malware a factory reset will not remove it. In fact most malware cant be removed that way. You have to flash the whole device to get rid of it.

In my opinion after starting all over again as you've already been told, you should do all that you did before and monitor each step with patience and concentration to actually understand what's behind this... This may help out

As he said. Here is what I would do if I was in your place. Anyone got any extra steps to add feel free to chime in. This would kinda suck for a bit.
You will need a custom recovery. And a bit of time to set up
1. Take everything off device.
2. Format full device in recovery. Not factory reset. Format system, data, internal storage and both caches.
3. Flash complete stock firmware.
4. Get root before rebooting
5. Reboot, do not connect to wifi during set up. Do not restore anything.
6. Get Catlog from the play store and run it.
7. Then continue set up. Wifi and ect. Scan backed up files with a pc virus scan but only return what you really need.
8. When restoring from TIBU install apps fresh from the market and restore data only to apps. (sucks I know but only way to be sure) make sure to delete old back and redo.
Then monitor catlog. This will tell you everything going on. You would be able to figure it out.
Lol... Use adaway or adblocker and such pop up will be gone ... These are the new tricks from those freaking advertisement companies. They are now smart buddy. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Internet not working properly

Hello guys. I bought a second hand Note 8 from a classmate a week ago. It was at a good price so I went for it. The internet was not working properly in it, it would just stop working for around 20 seconds and then start working again, i thought it might be because of the rain or something but after using it for 4 days I thought something was fishy. I put my sim into another phone and Internet worked perfectly good and normal, i put in different sim cards into my note 8 but the internet issue remained. In the settings it showed N950F. I put in it Download mode and noticed that its not N950F, Its N950N, I googled it and it turned out to be a korean model. I did deeper digging and found out its been converted to dual sim N950F by flashing a Custom rom. I told him all this and asked my money back to which he told me he spent it all. Now i'm stuck with this phone. I feel like i have wasted my hard earned money. I searched online found videos on youtube but i did not try them fearing my note 8 may get hard bricked or worse. Now i am not sure if it is a hardware issue or a bug in the custom rom, I am just assuming it's because of the custom rom. Please help me out. It's a korean model Note 8 256gb. If there's a way where i can keep the dual sim funtionality and get my internet issues fixed, I would love that, if that's not possible, then just fixing the internet issues would be much appreciated too. Thank you very much.

Have you tried checking to see if the APN settings are correct for your sim? That could fix it.
You could just flash stock filmware for the device, which can be found on "Sammobile" or "Updato" but would obviously return it back to single sim.

Yes I tried the APN settings, there was nothing wrong there.
The problem is, flashing the original stock rom might restrict my network connections to Korea only. It might not have other languages as well. If you have any other suggestions please tell me, if you know someone who might, kindly mention him.
Thank you for replying.

I wish I knew other suggestions to offer, but I am limited in my knowledge, especially with issues like this. Not something I have encountered before. I can't find an answer on Google to see if you would be okay using your sim on the Korean variant.
Hopefully someone more knowledge will answer, if you don't get a reply, just keep bumping the thread.

I had a problem with data and MMS not working. It's silly but make sure with your APN type is "default, dun, supl, mms". Mine was blank and wouldn't work without putting that in.
Good luck.

I would take your device to the high street branch of your Service Provider and let them take a look at it. It is probably the Network Settings which need to be configured on your device.

I tried that. It didn't work. I Flashed a different Custom ROM, the problem still remained. I'll flash stock ROM and see what happens.
