[Xiaomi Mi5] How my dream phone Mi5 became a nightmare for me!! - Xiaomi Mi 5 Guides, News, & Discussion

How my dream phone mi5 became a nightmare for me!!
Mi5 was my dream phone, I had created a post at miui forum...
But 10 days and mi5 became a nightmare for me!!
I had fell in love with speed and beauty of the phone, with hybrid case it look so cool. People were jealous of it. But happy time ended soon...
Don't go for looks, they deceive you...
And what do i need to say about build quality, aluminum gets dent on simple force. You have to use super hybrid case.
The mi Protect Scam
I called the Mi Assist for activation of mi protect, but it wasn't activated even after calling 5 times. When I went service center, they don't have any spares parts for the mi5 phone... Why the hell you sell mi protect when you don't even have the provisions. Funny thing was mi assist marketing department, called me to insure my other devices... I always said first activate for what I paid for... Mi protect is a scam, indeed.
Just a hype, no global stable ROM for Mi 5
Mi 5 is your flagship, how come Xiaomi team are so lethargic about global ROM. If you can't be loyal to global users then why you made fake claims and why Xiaomi released the phone for Rest of the world.
The Amount of defective Mi5 phones are too high....
My camera had defect, home button wasn't responsive to soft press, over heating,I waited with hopes for updates but i lost mind when physical defect were discovered in camera. Im freelancer which demands me to use front camera for live assistance. My assignments are international (European) so phone is the only way of getting connected anytime and anywhere. Clients started complaining about white dots on my videos and phone heated too much while live assistance. It made impossible for me to continue and which spoiled my ratings.
I immediately went mi service center, thank god engineer at service center confirmed the defect in phone. The engineer tested for water damage and physical damage. After confirming device problem, he issued fault in device memo. Which helped me to request for replacement. It was luckily 10th day, from the date of purchase... Finally, successfully request was submitted.
Bluedart guy came within an 24 hour and picked up the phone.
The replacement product was also defective!!!! Xiaomi dont have any polices for get a defective replacement!
BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE.
I'm without a phone and also I sold my iPhone 5s for Mi5!! You can refer my post where I mentioned about selling iPhone 5s for Mi5. Thought iPhone wasn't great but going for Mi 5 was a mistake.
Spoke to customer care of mi India but they are hopeless and clueless.
They kept me on hold for asking trivial information, which wasn't related to my problem. Just for the sake of passing time. They keep on hold and after coming back from hold they speak as if they are talking for first time. Im fedup of the harrasment. I even said to deduct shipping cost and refund me the balance amount but they are so rigit.
The service which mi india provides is a pure harrasment.
I wish mi.com had refund policy and I move away from this hell. I'm disappointed and without further loss... im sure mi phones are having high chances of being defective as only lower variants are available which are unsold stock of china.
I can't afford this to be repeated.
But let's face it, Mi won't give refund. We all have to learn something from here. And beware of the mi policies and services.
There are too many problems in Mi5. Xiaomi need to fix what it can via software updates, ASAP. Also, this is a honest review for mi 5 which will help many buyers to know the real face of mi5 and mi. Only the engineer at service center was indeed helpful, I accept that. No doubts about other products, but people need to know the honest reviews not just fanboys flaunting just cause of getting forum credits at miui forum. Cause we build expectations from it and get disappointed.
The miui forum has hardly any use, just legal spammers for credits. When its time to help, they turn deaf ears. Very few helpful mods, which are hardworking....
Hope this helps users before making decision for Mi 5and also an eye opener for Xiaomi...

Mate, can you please elobrate??

This doesn't sound very good. Hopefully your experience isn't encountered by others

unfortunately, this seems to be the real situation with so appreciated Mi 5 at the moment.
I was so eager to read each news and announcement about it, I was waiting for a really great phone with affordable price for so long, and in the end, it seems that all of us got just a big hype around quite troubled phone.
some of the issues with the phone could be theoretically solved in the future:
- shaky video recording could be improved by pairing EIS with existing OIS
- overall photo quality could be improved by using some 3rd party app and/or different camera driver
- not-so-widely adored MIUI could be replaced with some custom ROMs after kernel source is released
- one could try to be more cautious and not brake/bend the phone
- Xiaomi support could start acting as a useful service
- useless MIUI spam forum could be closed and people could get their unlock code without a need to post >500 "great"/"awesome"/"cool" replies on the newest Mi 5 screenshot
but, for some of those points Xiaomi has to change its own policy.
that's something, I'm afraid, we will not see in at least next 3 to 5 years...

had the phone from day no such issues.
not a single one u have pointed out.

I agree, mainly, in that point. What a sh*t* forum!

Same here
I´m very disappointed too.
There are a lot of small things that bother me:
Alarm doesn't work unless you interact with the phone (even hours later)
Delayed synchronization on almost all application, (notifications coming all at once after 10 min, WIFI or 3G)
Camera focus working really bad ( tried with different applications, all of them with bad results )
Contacts or Calls stopping working from the beginning
Spotify doesn't play next song unless you open the app
Even I have problems connecting to Xiaomi Band 1s
I had a Galaxy S3 and a Nexus 4 before and these things are very annoying. I have to use another mobile to wake up in the morning....
I can't wait to install cyanogenmod.
Anyway I'll never buy a Xiaomi again, I hate MIUI and after all this I prefer to pay more and have a good experience with a nexus.

Maybe this thread should be tweeted to Hugo Barra & Xiaomi. See if there is any response.

What a surprise !

I have another big problem with this phone. After I made a factory reset the phone got locked and needs to be activated. The device is associated with an existing Mi ID account that I never registered and is completely unknown to me, as is of course the password.
I've spent hours on their forum to get some answers on how to reassociate my phone to my own ID number. So far with no sucess.

It's okay to complain, but please do it reasonable.
Cut out all emotional crap from your topic and try again. But stick to facts and be reasonable.
Just as example, if you wonder what I am talking about.
->"The miui forum has hardly any use, just legal spammers for credits" ... 100% your opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
-> "There are too many problems in Mi5." ... 100% your opinion.
How could the same look better.
You could say: I was not able to find any useful information on en.miui.com, as most appeared to me as spam. I was not able to find what I was looking for [ state what you were looking for in here]
And instead of the very general and 100% stupid comment of too many problems.
You could have written a: I encoundered these problems [ list of problems ], a good amount of people have the same [ link to topics, stating similar problems.]
Why is this important:
I think, you made a bad experience and would like to warn people from making the same mistake, that's very kind of you!
But you achieve more if you stay to facts and leave out emotions and 100%-pure opinions.
That way you really help people, because they can make their own judgment based on facts you provided.
... what you wrote looks like a baby crying, to me at least.

@alfay0m3ga i have solution for 1st,2nd,4th, and maybe 3rd and 5th
For 1,2,4 just go in recent app and do the opposite of clearing an app, just drag down one and you will see an orange lock on left top of it
Then you will have alarms, spotify and syncronization
For the others try to unlock bootloader and change rom with xiaomi eu one

https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-2-month-wait-unlock-bootloader/
The situation is getting worst after we had hard time request for EDL, and now unlock BL with 2 months wait period.
I'm kind of disappointed with this rule.
What do you think?
Last Xiaomi for me, after the policy of not allowed to lock bootloader with global rom and now 1400 hrs of waiting. Next phone for me Oneplus for sure.
Also better quality control, this phone have vertical color banding.
Very bad decision from Xiaomi, you see on every forum hundreds of bricked phones from Xiaomi because of not communicating this with their customers.
A damn shame, a company that abuse their customers like that is just incredible!
Also almost no development, the forums are just filled with people who are asking for help for their bricked phones.
Just insane!

You're absolutely right. If I have to wait for 2 months id something goes wrong with my phone why don't save money for two months and buy a Samsung note 9?
What is Chinese mentality don't know. It is Android Open Source Platform!!! Huawei also doing sheet!!!
My first imported handset, my first Xiaomi. And I'm already totally disappointed!
Yo can reduce it a little bit if you first flash a beta ROM

I've imported quite a few huawei, this will be my last import from china with all this going on.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone have a guide to rooting the Mi 8? Don't need a custom ROM, just want root access (I assume this still enables OTA update from Xiaomi?) All the guides I can find are from random websites and months ago when the phone wasn't even available worldwide yet.

Honor Re-Opens bootloader Unlocking on a Limited Trial for XDA

Honor's recent decision to end bootloader unlocks for their phones upset the entire community, us included, and we've been working feverishly to get them to change the decision. That said, it takes time for complaints to climb the ladder of such a big company, and we've had to settle for baby steps. :fingers-crossed:
We asked Honor for the reason behind this action and this is what they said:
"\The unlock code application service was closed on May 24th for all Huawei/ Honor products as a security measure and to avoid issues caused by ROM flashing. The decision to close the page ensured Huawei/ Honor could continue to provide an excellent user experience for all global fans.

XDA Developers are actively engaged in software development and they constantly provide valuable suggestions to optimize Honor products. Based on their feedback, that unlocked bootloaders make it easier for them to develop and create, Honor has decided to re-open bootloader unlock on an exclusive number of codes to the XDA Developer community. :highfive:
The unlock codes are available for download exclusively to XDA Developers on a first-come-first-served basis via this online form....Update: thank you to all that applied for an unlock code. We are no longer taking requests. Unlock codes will be sent out in batches, starting the week of 25 September and continuing until the end of the year. Further instructions will go out via XDA PM asap. . XDA users can apply for the codes using the form and all applicants will have the opportunity to share their feedback. It might take several weeks to receive an unlock code after requesting one, but we'll work with Honor to expedite the process as much as possible.
XDA will continue to work with Honor to give users a strong voice when decisions are made that affect their user experience. Finally, they had this to say:
Honor phones and systems have gone through rigorous testing and improvements, which is why Honor is able to offer great products at good prices for global digital natives.

Well I am a Huawei owner and I already have my code. But I would like to still thank XDA for pushing this, and actually doing something.
Really hoping Huawei will come up with a solution.
To be fair, I kinda understand them. As it is right now, the OS on the phone is way too fragile, and you can end in a permanent brick way too easy.
But that is something they should fix on their end and not punish users for wanting to have control over these great devices.
Like, I love my Mate 10 Pro. It's one of the best on the market I believe. And hell, I am ready to purchase a Mate 20 (Pro?) if it comes out. But only, if we get custom OS support. Don't get me wrong, I actually like EMUI, and I totally don't get the complaints about EMUI. Trust me. If you complain about it, go and try Touchwiz. You will know hell. However, at some point, Huawei will stop providing updates or will focus on later models. At that point, I would still like to stay 'fresh' and have a lean OS. I had an S3 LTE, a Note 2, Note 4, LG G4, LG G Pro 2, and Cyanogen/Lineage and the others have given these devices new life.
Ps.: tl;dr: If we get custom roms, I keep buying them, my family will buy them, my friends will buy. If not, well, we all go to other brands.
This isn't just spitting in the face of users right?
Hope they change the decision and permanent opening bootloader again.

Well I for one do NOT understand them. It's absolutely NONE of their business what we (who paid good money for OUR phones!) do with the devices! If we brick them or whatever breaks - it doesn't concern Huawei at all since it's not covered by any kind of warranty after we unlock the bootloader.
I bought the View 10 ONLY because of the Honor Open Source program and of course right after I got the damn thing everything shut down.
I for one will NOT support a company that treats their paying customers like dirt - this is my first and most definitely LAST Huawei/Honor device unless they do an about face, let us unlock our bootloaders and support custom roms. ?
This is great news. I'm glad that the talks with them went somewhere. Good job guys.
While I truly appreciate the effort from everyone involved in this action, this doesn't help anything. If the devices are not open for everyone, they are not open for anyone.
This is the equivalent of not escalating a situation with an angry customer and giving him what he wants, a special treatment, while all the others won't get it.
That's not fair at all.

This is hopefully the first step to get this decision reversed at a later stage.
And regarding your analogy comparing this to an angry customer - the people who mainly are concerned by this decision are the people who would come to XDA forums anyway. This decision is more like showing special treatment to a target demographic of angry customers than a single angry customer.
what about Kernel Source codes etc for more recent devices like honor play? are they planing on releasing any?
I'm glad to see a little wiggle room on this. But as Huawei arguably has one of the top devices on market (or so I keep hearing about the P20 Pro) it also starts to make sense.
Here's hoping a good balance can be found.

Except you don't, in the EU at least, inspite of Honour / Huawei claims software modification, including unlocking bootloader doesn't invalidate your hardware warranty.
Good to see. Well done to XDA for sticking to their guns and getting Honor to soften their stance.
Hopefully if just the start and it can become a permanent policy and the Huawei side of the business to do the same. (which I heavily doubt they will
) My P20 Pro would be a perfect phone if I could get from EMUI to stock
Hello, XDA
I am a developer, can I get this benefit to unlock the bootloader of my device Honor?
They must have seen aggresive concurrent Xiaomi taking some market share
what about lock code on Honor V10? some people write about not working old codes on ROM FW>=163 version. Via this service, Huawei sent new code for new room or include downgrading to old room warning with code?

While that IS true you'll have a hard time getting any repairs done once you unlocked it - and besides, my hardware doesn't break due to me f*cking up by unlocking and flashing custom roms etc. If someone flashes a bad kernel and blows their chip due to overclocking or what have you the repair centers can still tell and refuse a warranty repair.
Either way you look at it - letting us unlock our devices does NOT cost them anything, but it will keep us buying their phones.

Poco F1 extra sensitive touch issue

Hey folks,
I have noticed that in my poco if you hover you finger too close to your screen(note that i haven't touched the screen) it will capture it as touch. This becomes annoying when you are typing or playing games. I have asked for replacement but the technical guy who came for visit is not ready to accept this issue. And I am blocked now with this faulty poco.
This is because of the extra sensitive touch i guess(like glove mode in iPhone), I have changed the pointer speed, reset the phone but nothing works. This should be resolved by calibration but don't know how.
Please let me know if anyone else is facing this issue or has the solution for same.
Thanks

I have been writing about this issue since day 1, I somehow got the phone replaced. I showed them the PUBG game issue but they didn't help me, in the end I had to show them that ghost touch issue (which was a software bug and since the device was just launched very few people knew that it's actually a software glitch) so I forced them to take back the device.
I wasted hours on phone to emulate all the problems so that I could get it returned, this is a ****ty device and the company need to be sued for selling faulty products.
Is it something you might be able to get used to? Honestly, I've found this a problem on ALL touch-screen smartphones since forever lol.
Maybe it can be fixed in software in a custom kernel soon. If it bothers me that much when I get my device, I might look into it - it seems the kind of thing that could differ between devices and production runs, so the factory is forced to make a "best average guess" for all devices.
But it could also be a factory calibration thing, which has device-specific values in proprietary files or firmware....

Because the touch is "too-sensitive", a purely subjective thing, you think the device is faulty and they should be sued?
So dramatic. Are you new to this place called reality or something?
It's a $500 flagship device, if you came into this expecting 100% premium quality then you're a fool.
CosmicDan said:
Is it something you might be able to get used to? Honestly, I've found this a problem on ALL touch-screen smartphones since forever lol.
Maybe it can be fixed in software in a custom kernel soon. If it bothers me that much when I get my device, I might look into it - it seems the kind of thing that could differ between devices and production runs, so the factory is forced to make a "best average guess" for all devices.
But it could also be a factory calibration thing, which has device-specific values in proprietary files or firmware....

Ever heard about Honor 8 Pro? It was launched last year and was called the flagship killer, the issue is not present in there, why?
Ever Heard of any MiA1 or MiA2 device having this problem?
Do you have the device?
If not then try it out, it's not something you can live with.
What do you think I am asking for? I just want Xiaomi to admit that there is an issue and work on it and nothing else.
Not happening on my unit. Any specific steps to reproduce it?

So go harass the Manager on Twitter, what can we do about it? Complaining about the device once is fair enough to raise awareness, but every thread I see seems like you are on a mission to destroy this community.
I don't see the relevance of comparing it to other devices. May as well say "Ferrari can make cars that fast, why can't my Prius?"

you should be known to the fact that many of xiaomi devices comes with bugs at first. Xiaomi fixes almost all bugs after some updates. Most of the current bug's fixes (audio, notification, battery percentage, ok google) are coming soon on next OTA. Some of them, they're investing. from my POV, Xiaomi is doing great with Poco's software side. Jai Mani himself taking care of these
you complain about camera?
- use gcam
you complain about miui?
- wait for AOSP Roms
you complain about the phone?
- get a refund
But don't just flood everywhere. Grab more cash. Get a Oneplus 6. Be happy with it. Have a nice day

Please tell me why the issue exists on phones like Redmi Note 4, redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and now Poco but the problem is not there on MiA1, MiA2, etc. You will say that the software is different that's right, but can't the issue be of hardware kind because if they used the same displays why not the same touch hardware? and why the problem is still not solved in the Redmi Note devices?
I tweeted them all and there are some bug reports, Xiaomi did not reply to anything.

The issue does NOT exist on the Redmi Note 4, my Note 4 is perfectly fine.
The reason why devices are not updated by Xiaomi is because this is an OEM issue, OEM's will charge money to Xiaomi for fixes, and Redmi is budget crap line which Xiaomi don't want to go bankrupt over. You do know the Xiaomi fame of them having extremely small profit margins, right? If you want to have a 100% perfect digitizer on launch, go and pay twice as much for a device with identical specs.
This is a brand new device from a brand new department. We are the early adopters. Even the Google Pixel devices had major bugs when they first came out. Go get a refund if you're unhappy. And if you can't, then learn the lesson to not be an early adopter for a brand new product line.
The gain on the digitizer is too high (or the threshold is too low), it's a SOFTWARE issue. Simple as that. I don't have the device yet so I can't tell if it's in the kernel driver or the firmware, but it's 100% a software issue because literally all mobile phone digitizers are calibrated in software for the past decade. Anybody who knows anything about Linux/kernel development knows this stuff.
Enough with your non-constructive ramblings, it's not beneficial to the conversation at all. Stop being obnoxious and passive-aggressive with your patronizing questions.
---------- Post added at 13:19 ---------- Previous post was at 13:08 ----------
Back on topic,
@OP, I wonder what digitizer hardware you have. Is there a service menu we know about yet? According to the kernel source and config there may be two possible digitizer panels for the Poco (just like how they often have two or three different LCD suppliers for one device).
If I notice an imperfect touch on my device when it arrives, I'm going to dig into the kernel source to see if I can find something - but if people have two different digitizer panels then that will complicate things.
Another thought:
Do you have a tempered glass protector? If not, try it. It could reduce the sensitivity. It may even be *intentional* to allow that.

If you are saying it's a software bug, then I can believe it, I just want someone experienced to tell me if it's a s/w issue or h/w issue, the problem is getting rid of the phone is not easy, no one is buying this, Flipkart is making the issue more complex, the replacement itself took me 2 hours to explain the guy about the problems and I am not sure they will provide the return.
Also, Pixel had the issue fixed as soon as the issue was discovered and other OEM's had to fix the issue too, Google didn't charge money for that, the multitouch issue was fixed in May patch, why do you think it still exists in MIUI?
Zenfone Max Pro M1 is a ****ty device I agree but the device has the same spec as Redmi Note 5 Pro but costs a lot less and they have already fixed the issue, it's also a crappy budget phones and you know what? Zenfone is the worst company and well known for not fixing bugs, but they still did!
Talking about the go buy other crappy phones for more: Nokia 7 Plus and Honor Play are still a better deal only HPlay has a bad camera but Honor has a better support than atleast Xiaomi, their performance is not like Poco but atleast there is no lag, no framedrop, no structural issues, no touch issue or anything. I would be glad to switch only if I get my money, if not atleast someone from Xiaomi guarantee me that they issue will be fixed soon.
I see that you don't have the device till now, I will wait till you get the device and test it. Here is the bug report, see if you can reproduce it once you get your hands on it:
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3746297&page=2#pid30155106
----------------------------
Call me idiot or anything you want, I have kept the replacement that I got all packed up and didn't open the package, because I am trying to sell the package in case Flipkart refuses refund. I have to use an old Lenovo Vibe K4 Note instead.
----------------------------
Wait for an update: I have very few days left to return the device, since Xiaomi is not telling if the bug will be fixed or not one can not say anything about it. Except for the 10 bug fix update MIUI9 is not going to get another update and all the bugs will be tested and fixed once MIUI10 is launched whose launch date is December 2018.
This is not my story, an admin said that all development work on MIUI9 (all versions) has been stopped.
People who installed MIUI10 on their Poco are not telling if the problem is fixed in the beta ROM but Redmi Note 5 Pro users are saying that the bug is still not fixed.

i. Many people don't seem to have this problem and the reviewers didn't report the problem with the Armoured edition, why? they have the same setup (hardware and software) right? And if the review units do have this problem then how come reviewers didn't say anything?
ii. Let's say they by mistake left a bug, that clearly means no testing was done with this device, they just launched it without checking anything. But what can you expect from a Chinese phone, right? So, why call it a flagship killer killer and why so much hype?
This is a real issue and needs to be fixed and Xiaomi should atleast show some respect by telling this to the customers and you are defending them for no reason. You have enough technical knowledge, do you really think we should have an inaccurate and slow input device just for the sake of a faster processor? because that's most stupid statement of all time. Input device should be as accurate and fast as the processor for full usage. It's like having a 1Gbit internet but a computer that can process only few MB per sec, the throughput will be a lot less and waste of money.
Hello.
Will this problem be fixed? Is it a software or hardware problem?
I will have to sell this phone if it does not fix it.
Thanks.

Try the Magisk module mentioned in this thread (and read more about it there). It might solve it, might do nothing, might cause bootloop... good luck!

There were something like that in a device called infinix zero 2. and it needed a screen protector to solve the issue.

Trump bans Huawei in the US

An executive order has been signed by Trump banning Huawei in the US...
Also Qualcomm (QCOM) may have to apply for US export licenses to continue supplying technology to Huawei.
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/05/15/tech/trump-executive-order-telecom-security/index.html
Why worry about Huawei when Google, facebook and the countries intelligence are already spying.
I think the problem lies with 5G, Huawei are trying the set up the infrastructure for 5G across Asia, Europe and the US amongst over areas. Which means that they'll have a back door to almost everything connected to 5G.
5G will connect to everything, even LED lights in your home which basically gives them a 3D view of every area 5G covers. Whoever has access to it will know where you are nearly all the time.
The timing makes it obvious the steps against Huawei is derivative of the US trade war with China rather than concerns over spying.

I wonder if it makes sense to care about that. Huawei prices are dropping and people try to sell there used phones. A good moment to buy something like that.
Am I totally wrong in thinking that Trump will probably not stop xda developers from developing updates for Huawei phones? If so I do not care about Huaweis updates or wether they include Gapps
But sadly XDA is not able to develop updates for Huawei beacause of locked bootloader etc, so what you are trying to say is......?

BTW: of you quote me I see your post faster

No there is no easy way, even no way at all at the moment.
I am quite relaxed at the moment, for existing phones there will still be support, future phones could be a HUGE problem. But to be honest, A LOT switch their phones after 2 years or even before, so most people will not be touched by this ban who are currently owning this awesome phone.
I don't think Huawei spies. Even if they did, are they the only big players who do it?
US already spies on their citizens and on the world - Edward Snowden told the world and now he's not allowed back into his country. Facebook also sells your data if you remember that Cambridge Analytica drama.
Do people just forget what's happened?
Agree, i am total sure that Apple has a file with my data and i didn´t even touched an apple device in my life
that doesn´t make spying good, but i also think huawei is not doing more/less than the rest

this is not my attitude towards phones. Mine is rather: use the device until warranty is over (or a bit earlier) then root and install a custom rom and use the phone until it is really dead. Unfortunately it seems like that did not take too long on my Asus Zenfone selfie ...
I also use phones quite long, but really a lot people get a new one every year or every two years by contract. The same people which are now selling their phones because of panic^^
if you plan on using custom rom/modification huawei is not suitable for you, it is just not possible. maybe the android ban will change something, but nobody can say that, you will have to wait to see what will happen.
Since no one else has said it on this thread let me be the first, Trump is an idiot, when he's gone the whole world will be better for it. He can't even honor D-day survivors without making it all about him, the ultimate draft dodger.

should I buy mi A3?

Hi, I am thinking to buy the Mi A3, since it got android one, OLED and much more. But I want to know, does the device standard on what it promises, so I want your opinion. Should I buy it or just go for other device.

The Android one project is really a scam at this point its may and still have a very buggy version of Android 10 that way delivered in April, the OLED is a good pannel but the resolution isn't the best ,the battery is good tho, I would recommend you to look for another device.
For the bad, honestly, it's the bugs. If you don't mind the bugs, most of them can be worked around without root. But the android 10 update has solved quite a few of them.
The fingerprint scanner can be really annoying sometimes, but it requires muscle memory. Push harder than the fingerprint you recorded and it won't recognize it.
The screen is OK. I don't really care for the dpi. It's perfectly sharp for average use.
Now the good.
Battery life is AMAZING. I consistently get over 12 hours of SOT, rarely less than 10.
The camera is very, very, very good. Pictures are just incredibly nice for this price range.
And the price. Really.
If you want an amazing battery life, buy it. No other phone I know in this price range has this battery life.
If you have ~160€ I think this is the best you can find for that price. If you don't have more money to spare, sure go for it. And know you'll have to workaround some bugs.
If you can get a little more money, get other phone.
If you don't wanna workaround the bugs, maybe check the Redmi note 8, but know the battery life ain't as good.

The only thing that I have been bothering me it is the amount of bugs with Android 10, Xiaomi solved one of them, but for me it is really anoying.
I was prefer wait three or four months more for Android 10, but without bugs.
No.
It is a great phone overall. What are the other alternatives? I got mine on nice sale. I personally wanted these specifications, so i got it.
NFC was maybe the only compromise. What else you can get?
- Huawei nova 5t? it may be better, was not released when i bought my phone, ot it was pricier, not sure. + have NFC
- Samsung Galaxy a30s- my girlfriend have that, the camera is not better, i even think it is worse, the battery may be better, her phone can hold some juice for a long time, like 2 days+, but you can do it with mi a3 also, the display is the same, exactly the same, but my fingerprint is faster( you does not need to hold it long or to press hard like that guy told you, even sometimes it is that fast, when i am lifting it from table or take it out of my pocket and slightly touching the sensor area it just unlock), also you can't find really that much customisation. But you will have NFC.
Don't buy Xioami, to be honest, their customer service is so bad it's remarkable they are still in business. Get out the no account authorization issue they have, you have to buy black-market support to fix any issue. 0/10 for support, stay far.

So it's better to play "black market" to be able to unlock your bootloader (Nokia) or that you can't unblock it at all (Huawei) or that it screws up your phone (Sony DRM, Samsung KNOX)? Don't be ridiculous, playing with bootloader and system has some risks, if you're not ready to eventually pay for your mistakes, keep your phone in stock state. Phone manufacturer has nothing to do with it.

Hi _mysiak_ Please read what I said :
I just said I am not a modder, I just ran an OTA and it's been dead since, and that's 5 months ago. The phone was stock, vanilla. I don't hack/mod phones I don't have the time.
Xiaomi forces us to go to the black market because they refuse to offer the correct support to customers
Again, I am not a modder/ hacker I did not mod my device. I did an OTA update and it went into boot loop ever since.
Check the MI forums this is not an edge case, Xiaomi have buggy OS updates that will kill your device (eg. Just like mine, check MI website hundreds, if not thousands of people have this issue and the only fix is to fly to China)
Check this official XDA post :
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-edl-unbrick-authorized-mi-accounts/
Overall I would not buy, nor recommend a Xiaomi, I don't trust the brand. But hey that's my opinion, You had a better experience so at least you're lucky.

Sorry, misunderstood your post. If it's still in stock state, you should apply for a warranty repair. Or pay a small fee for a 3rd party service and they'll do it remotely. In both cases I don't understand why you waited 5 months.. [emoji846] These things are unfortunate, but they happen sometimes, just like HW failures.

Yes, they are cheap and other offer unlocking also, I m just giving a review of my experience. I am not a modder, I don't unlock or mod, root anything last time I did so was LG G4. I just a vanilla android phone user that ACCEPTED an official OTA update and ever since I haven't gotten to use the device and I was told support to fix is only in China.
Again that's my experience if you had a better one congrats.

Yes, I tried to fix it from day one but ran into the no authorization issue. I bought off Amazon where they said the warranty has passed. I will decide soon enough if I should fix, either way, I have moved.
After seeing this amount of negative reviews, I am just going to pass this device. Maybe I will go for Motorola, since they provide update regularly and bootloader unlock is available too. So I will go for Motorola. Thank you all, for let me know your suggestions.
