Temporarily remove/disable screen lock - Verizon LG G3

I use passcode screen lock on my G3, and use a GPS based golf app on my phone while playing a round. I pretty much in a hurry to unlock screen each time so that I can see the shot distance and other info from this app. Can I temporarily disable my screen lock only when I am golfing? Another way is to remove screen lock before a round, then I will need to reset my passcode each time afterwards.
thanks.

Hi! If you always golf at the same place(s), you can use the Xposed Module "No Lock Home". You'll have to add all of the cell towers that your phone will connect to while you play the course, but once you do it'll be good except for the once-in-a-while occurrence of new cell towers and just plain when it decides to connect to a different tower than usual.

Delayed Lock app from Play Store, with the location plugin set for the golf course coordinates. The app comes with 7 day free trial, then costs $2.49. I use it to keep my phone unlocked when connected to home wifi, but I have tested the location feature too and it works well.

I only keep my phone unlocked when I'm home and when I'm connected to my car's bluetooth, so I can't report on the built-in stock location-based unlock capability that's similar to what you describe. Have you tried Settings / Lock screen / Smart Lock / Trusted places / Add trusted place ? In theory it should work similarly, but you might need to keep Mobile Data on all the time (I don't).

Thank you for your suggestion, I don't know this about Xposed module and will try this feature at home. For golfing, I tend to play several courses in the area, so this feature might not working for golf app.

Programmable NFC tags by Samsung for select Galaxy phones

I know it doesn't mention the Note, but I'd be hard pressed to see this not being ported over if not part of the list of devices. Just thought it was nifty and wanted to share

i would like to try this as well. i'd love to set one up to swtich wifi when im at home, one to switch the ringer off when at work.. i'll probably get one to see if it works.

can't you just use tasker for that, using cell tower signals?

You can, but it's rather broad...
NFC ReTag, free app in the market, lets you use ANY NFC tag (writeable or not) to set various parameters on the phone, but more importantly IMO is it can run any Tasker task.
When I get in my car and plug into the AC and put my phone in the holder, there's an NFC tag there. It's seen, Car Home starts, Waze starts, depending on the time of day the screen brightness changes, volume increases etc..
When I get to work I scan a tag on my keyboard and it forces the phone into Work mode (I work close to home and sometimes wind up on the same tower on each, leading to the phone bouncing between profiles).
I also have a sleep tag, but I never use it.. Sleep mode = Plugged in after 10pm and turned face-down, all in Tasker.

perfect settings for gravity app?

I couldn't get watchon app working so I tried installing a similar app from the play store called gravity. It basically turns your watch on and off based on the positioning and motion of the watch. I can get it to work, the problem I'm having is that no matter what settings I try, I can't get it quite perfect. A lot of times the watch ends up turning on when I don't want it to, and turns off when I don't want it to. I've tried playing around with all the settings but can't seem to get it just right. I was wondering if anybody else has any experience with this app and what the optimal settings were?

I haven't tried that particular app, but found Shake in the Play Store, which can be configured to launch OClock when the TS is shaken. It isn't perfect either, as sometimes there is a couple seconds delay before launching the clock, and also the setting to Run as Service sometimes gets turned off. I got around the last part by using Tasker to run Shake at boot, which seems to then turn the Service on.

Issues so far

I've only had my watch 16 hours or so (7 of which I was asleep), and I like it, and plan to develop apps for it..... but I have the following issues:
Updated (9 Jul)
Take a note voice command just sends me an email, instead of using something like Google Keep
The screen dims for a second before screen turns off (or goes to clock) - if I do OK Google during this time it ignores it
Set a Timer voice command does not work - options set an alarm menu
No music controls when I use default music player, or RocketPlayer Solved my Wear Music Controller
When doing a voice search, it often says Disconnected. 6 times so far, one time I had to restart watch before it could reconnect.
Dictating a longish email will eventually fail, even though it recognized loads of the words.
Step count often not updated on homescreen widget, despite it showing a higher number in the actual watch app
Dismissing a google now card (weather for example), you can't get it back if you did it by mistake
Navigation started from watch sits on Calulating route... if music playing on phone with screen locked.
Screen stays on while charging (reported by dunjamon) Solved by Slumber
I have it paired with HTC One S with Liberty S4 MAX custom ROM.
Anyone else have these issues (what device do you have it paired with)? Or know how to fix/work around them?
I have 4 and 7 8 D:
Number 1 confused me for a while. I searched everything on my phone before I realised that it had just emailed me. With number 7, I've turned off the step count...yet it still tells me my total of 0.
Also, is with the screen always on settings set to no, when you put it on charge the screen stays on. It's a nightmare at night, I have to turn it off and then boot it back up in the morning. There needs to be some kind of sleep mode or setting to allow the screen to be off while charging.
I've had 3 and 5
5 is a bit annoying. I'm hoping a restart means it won't recur as I go thru the day...

I didn't know about these developer options: Tapping build version several times works, same as a phone. The "Stay awake when charging" option is disabled by default however. I've only recently enabled the "always keep screen on" mode, so will be interesting to see what happens when charging tonight...
Regarding 1) It has started working! I installed Evernote for Android Wear from play store, also Baby Time and Draw Watch. I also resycn'ed all apps using the option in the Android Wear companion app.
Next time I did "take a note", it asked if I wanted to complete Action using Keep or Evernote, so I chose Keep. I also can see Keep in the list of apps on watch (before it wasn't there). The note was stored in Keep. Still works after uninstalling Evernote.
Regarding 4) I installed Music (Remix) Trial from play store, and Pause, Prev, Next actions are now on my watch. Unfortunately, the buttons do nothing. Not sure if this is an issue with my particular phone or what... Anyone else tried this app?

I've already disabled the stay awake while charging option. Unless it needs to be activated and then the watch itself to be set to not be always on. Will have another play tonight.
I've also noticed Keep show up in the apps now after another update. Will test out another note and see where it goes.
Got none of these problems with my watch. Fix for 8: If eg you swiped away the weather just say "ok google, what's the weather". after it told you the card should be back. this works for me, also with others like world clock, steps etc.
Just tried the screen off while charging and it doesn't work. The only way I can get the screen to turn off is to put it on charge and then on my phone set the screen to go off.
I actually have none of these issues...

I hope it isn't the case where everything will only work flawlessly with the latest Nexus devices. Have Google tested Wear with anything older?
I suppose it would make good business sense to encourage peeps to fork out for a Nexus 5 after spending money on a Wear watch...
Another issue I'm seeing is starting a Navigation from the watch won't work if I have music playing on my phone (phone lockscreen has music player UI). It just sits there on Calculating route... I'll add this to my list (and others from other peeps)

Number 4, music control, works well with Pandora. I like that I can start Pandora by voice, but there's no way to shut it down the same way.
Number 8, the disappearing cards was giving me hell on stocks. To resolve, I opened a browser on my workstation, Googled "quote xom" or whatever stock, and then the stocks card reappeared. I suspect a simple "Ok, Google...quote XOM" might do the same thing.

No 3. Timer kicks straight into Alarm picker. Timer does work when you get to Google screen, swipe up and manually select it. But that's not a solution. I'm on stock 4.3.
Having the control issue with google play music and youtube when connected to chromecast he buttons wouldn't work and with youtube wven tho there was nothing playing the buttons were still on the watch and couldn't be dismissed
also having the connection issues if i take the watch out of the reach of the phone the app won't reconnect unless i go into the app myself to do it even then the watch says it's not connected when using ok google
EDIT: Happened again this time can't get the Ok Google working at all
Anybody else having issues where raising your arm to activate "Ok Google"isn't working consistently? We've got 2 watches in the house, and I've worn both. Same issue. Seems like if you don't use it for awhile, the arm motion won't wake the watch back up.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I'm having some of the same issues. I've had a few smart watches to compare.
-My Gear 2 worked way better as far as waking up when raising my arm. The LG G is difficult to wake by raising my arm.
-Bluetooth doesn't connect automatically when I get back in range of my phone. The other smart watches have done this that I have owned so not sure why this issue exists.
-There's no way to set the screen timeout. This thing times out very quick. Personally, I have no problem charging my batt every night so I would like to take advantage of the 30 or so % that is left on the watch each night by increasing the screen time out, vibration duration etc.
-I have a difficult time getting cards back after deleting even if I search for the stock, weather, etc. again.
-No way to reply to text messages.
I'll add more as they hit me.

YES! Install a GPS Test and you can actually see the amount of Satellites seen go to zero. I can sit in the same place for 5 minutes and it will go from 21 to 0 every 10 - 60 seconds with a clear sky. I am wondering if this is a software or hardware issue. It is noticeable when using Gmaps to navigate, you will see your arrow simply stop when driving down the highway for 5 seconds at a time.

Sometimes indoors GPS has more difficulty. Has it worked there before with other phones?
EDIT:
Worked with my GPS navigation a bit more... definitely see the GPS lose tracking every few minutes. Turned off the iZat, didn't make a difference. Plugged in a power source, thought it might help a little, but nope, GPS lost every once in a while. Bah, just when I thought I had received a problem-free unit
Any more information on this? As of April 1st, my LG G5 seems to be way off on GPS. I noticed it using Runkeeper. I thought maybe it was a Runkeeper issue, but then used MapMyRun and got the same I looked in history and saw that since getting this phone (traded in my G4 for the G5) I had one successfully tracked run, then it all went haywire. Never had a problem with the G4 - so it can't be signal issues (IMO). And since this phone got it right once... that is strange to me.
To give an idea... I ran about 10 miles and it told me 18. When I looked at the runkeeper map it looked like I was running down side streets, into fields, crazy stuff. Like it never got a real lock on my location.
I'm wondering if I need to return this phone??

I have only used the G5 in the car a few times and it seems to work fine - using google maps, not waze.
I use a couple apps to track biking and they work fine. However, when I use them I use an app called GPS keeper pro to keep the GPS running all the time. It seems to help with apps for fitness. I started using it with the G3 and just kept right on with the G5. You might want to try GPS Keeper for your running apps.
I use GPS only in the location settings. That may help. At least my apps that rely on GPS open much faster with that setting.
Sent from my LGLS992 using XDA Free mobile app
My specific GPS issue was that it would lose lock a minute or so into a perfectly normal navigation lock while using Gmaps. It would relock after several seconds, only to lose lock again. This repeated over and over.
I was using the app GPS Status to monitor this. However, it hasn't surfaced in a few days, so I don't know if there was some rogue app or former setting that was interfering with GPS holding lock. I've hypothesized maybe it was GPS Status itself which was interfering. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and so far *knock on wood* it hasn't popped up again.
This sounds a bit different from some of the problems listed here. The run tracker not getting a good track might be related to this, if it is never able to consistently keep GPS lock. Try monitoring the GPS satellite lock icon when the app is running. Does it go from lock (white) to not lock (grey)?
Mine is actually grey most of the time but when I'm connected to wifi calling it's constantly white. Weird. This thing needs an update for a few different reasons. Coming from the note 4 I notice differences in the software obviously but somethings seem like they don't quite work right. Example being when I used wifi calling on the note 4 it would grey out the regular signal but on this it's still active with the bars going up and down. I'm pretty sure it should cancel the network out all together but maybe this is just different. I don't know.

Maybe it's using the wifi connection hotspot to determine your location? So does your GPS really work at all then?

Well - I got my second LG G5 hoping that would solve the problem. Doesn't seem to be any different
I've tried this so far:
High Accuracy - Was Already Set
Turn off WiFi location
Tried GPS Keeper to keep signal alive
Tried GPS Status Utility - NOTED: Takes a long time to lock and still will start 'searching' for long periods of time.
Tried with no cover on
New phone seems the same I love the LG phone itself, but I can't handle this. I should have returned it for a Samsung. Are there any other tricks I am missing?

Correct, you don't have it installed then. Have you tried disabling iZat? It's the low power GPS addition, at the bottom of the GPS settings page.
Also, just to cover all the bases, you are outdoors when you're searching for GPS, right?
I have a stock T-Mobile G5, I've also noticed inconsistent GPS. Acts as if it's stuck. I'll open Google Maps and it'll show my location from 90 minutes ago. Won't update until I turn on airplane and then off again. Once the radios come back up GPS updates. Hoping for an update to fix this ASAP.

The low power GPS is turned off, yes. When I run the test I am running it right next to my window indoors. I run it on my HTC One (not activated) and my LG G5 (activated - new phone). HTC locks immediately (2-5 seconds) with 14/20 satellites, G5 does not lock for at least 3 minutse with anywhere between 18-26 satellites (I gave up after 3 minutes). I tried turning off/on airplane mode like the previous post - didn't change anything for me.
Even though the GPS doesn't show lock on the LG G5, I can get google maps working. It isn't very accurate, though. It sometimes shows me stuck in a location for about 1-2 miles. It also shows me off the roads, typically.
I found a way to replicate the GPS issue! I was having it behaving really intermittently on my car mount (vertically), and then I decided to tilt it horizontal and suddenly it got a lock! I've verified it by GPS test apps and it's super obvious that in a vertical orientation, the GPS doesn't get a proper lock.
Any of you guys wanna validate this?
I'm having this issue as well, sometimes takes a couple minutes or more to obtain initial lock when I get in my car every morning and start Waze (although it guesstimates my location based on last lock / WiFi), plus then it drops out 2-3 times per drive, which is incredibly frustrating and has caused me to miss turns. I lose lock with WiFi both enabled and disabled during my drive
As a couple people already said, I use the T-Mobile G5. I'm curious if all of us experiencing the problem use the T-Mobile version and it might be a carrier ROM issue. My network and GPS settings are how they were out of the box, although now that I know it exists, I'll try disabling IZat low-power location just to see if there's any improvement.

My phone is always horizontal in my car dock, with the top of the phone facing left, but I'm still losing GPS lock. Do you use yours horizontally the other way?
I can tilt mine any way I want and it won't lock I ran a test this morning while taking my kids to school. I took out my old HTC One and turned on Runkeeper (running app). Turned Runkeeper on LG G5 (separate Runkeeper account to be sure nothing got screwy). G5 couldn't lock enough to map anything, HTC mapped perfectly to the roads. I then used VZ Navigator (Verizons map system - this was done at Verizon's request). The maps trailed me by about 1/2 to 1/4 mile and showed me about 200 yards off the road. Then - GPS lost. All the while - HTC mapped me out with Runkeeper perfectly mapped to the roads.
Since this is my second LG G5 with GPS issues... I think there is a problem with the phone or maybe the Verizon version of the phone. Sounds like T-Mobile also, though, so could just be some LG software screwing things up.
Either way - I'm probably getting the S7 now. I really like the G5 with the rear fingerprint scanner... but I need a GPS that works out of the box.

Anyone knows a fix? I guess it's connected to Huawei paranoidly killing all apps/ services in the background.
Sometimes I see that trusted places works but most of the time it doesn't even if I go to maps to update my current location it doesn't keep my phone unlocked. (This usually helped with my older nexus6P)

Came with 137 update.
Settings -> security -> lock screen -> smart unlock
With wifi off system puts me like 200m off my actual location, just outside the geofance, when I turn wifi on it will put me on the right spot.
But if I open maps with wifi off, it will fix to my location with great accuracy.
I can only think that the system is only using network information to determine my location instead of pinging GPS from time to time.
Idk if this is related to the Google location history problem, that only track the places I've been (and poorly) and not the route I took to get there.
