*>>>>*How would you suppose one to stream video feed as home background? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Who's to say, when someone monitors their live cams, he or she is neglected as to variability of informent implementation. (by means of checking on security cams).*Ultimately, my inquisition would be to put a live link broadcast url via home background. In Andriod, by the off chance, is this at all plausible to make an app .... or .apk with .sdk?"cs2.pixelcaster.com:1935/ x|x live/hbpier5.stream/playlist.m3u8" this is my suggested web address, I am not too sure of capability or if that is the compatible format for driod to utilize.

access IP camera (Gadspot) from HTC Hermes

I have a Gadspot N1250 IP camera which is directly connected to my local network.
My HTC is also connected to the same network which means there is no firewall between 2 devices.
I am trying to access the camera's video stream through my HTC Hermes.
I can access the administration web page of the camera with URL :
http://192.168.254.25
I can login through that page but the camera view does not show up.
On PC, after logging in I can see the Video stream with an ActiveX component which is directly installed to my IE over the cam's web page.
I can also reach the IP cam video stream using VLC player with a URL like:
rtsp://192.168.254.25:554/video.mp4
But neither with Pocket IE , nor with Pocket Media Player I couldn't reach following urls:
rtsp://192.168.254.25:554/video.mp4
http://192.168.254.25
I am looking for any solution (new software, URL) to reach the IP cam.
Can anyone advise me what to do ?
Thanks.
It also works through Windows Media Player with URL:
rtsp://192.168.254.25:554/video.3gp
But I still could not find a URL for WM6.
Any guess ?
Hi!
I have a N1250 wireless IP Camera, however after installing it, I have a black screen when running it with IE6 (Win XP ScePK2) and typing the Cam IP address on the address bar.
I allowed/enabled all the active x scripts on Tools/Options IE, but it is still a very nice black screen!!. I'm using a wireless router Linksys.
As a note the active x that came with the cd was already installed.
I tried FireFox and Netscape, but they seem to be worse: there is no camera screen at all! all the page is white.
So what to do next??
Anyone has an idea??
do you see it on PC ?
I mean where is the blank scren problem ?
On PC or on HTC ?
HTC Video Ip cameras
Mrmrmrmr,
Had the same issue a while years back. We internally needed to see different cameras , behind firewalls , multiple locations, password protected, corporate VPN's, PTZ etc. So we built it into a product that did more than just cameras, but it was for internal use only.
We have finally recieved the ok to release the camera only version. The geeks in this group get to help this community out.
This release will always have a free IP camera input. One to see your favorite petcam, your childs daycare center, your favorite beach cam, your home/office security IP cam etc.

Please let us know if this helps. Also which phones you had good success with or tested it with.
Thx
Thanks; I will try this asap.
Hi L4z3r,
I'e tried your software but it seems that it does not have support for my camera.
I use a Gadspot N1250 which supports mjpeg but I couldn't connect to the camera neither by http://192.168.254.25 nor http://192.168.254.25/index2.htm
I also tried rtsp link to the cam but nothing happened.
interestingly, the software does not pop up any error messages.
Just nothing.

The URL needs to be the full URL to the image location itself and not the page that it appears on, sorry for any confusion. The README should contain the appropriate steps, but basically go to the page on your computer where the JPG or MJPEG stream is viewable, right click the image and select properties. This should bring up a information box with the full url of the image (should in .jpg, .mjpg, or something similar; although I have seen it as a .cgi but I had to view the page source to find that one, .cgi usually lets you pass parameters such as video size you want it). But if it's not a Axis or Panasonic, you will need to enter the full URL of the image location, select "Other" for camera manufacture, and make sure it's the appropriate stream type (MJPEG is handled differently than JPEG). If it is an Axis or Panasonic, please do not enter the image location, just do the IP or DNS name (192.168.0.100 or yourdnsname.com:8080 (this is how you do a camera who is set up on a different port than the standard 80)).
I have seen a problem with larger images, like ones that are ~640x480 or larger. rollins2, if you could let me know what type of camera you are using, I can try to help more. Plus if we see a lot of demand for a type of camera, we may be able to add support for it.
Hope this helps, and please do read the README, it has some helpful tips on getting started with the app.
In case anyone is still interested, I also have a gadspot camera N1250 and was trying to figure out running it on my cell phone for years. I had a second kid born this week and put up the camera in his room and finally was able to stream it and view still images from my nokia phone. The still images are ran with the standard phone web browser. However, the streaming is running via realplayer that was included with the phone, using your method similar to rtsp://192.168.254.25:554/video.3gp.
I think any phone with a realplayer will be able to play the streaming video since it usually works with windows.
That being said, the above method does not work on Windows Media Player for some reason, however, I am fine streaming with EI.
Moved you over from rom dev to software.
Peace

Looking for beta testers for new Honeycomb App - What to Watch on Netflix

Hi - cross posting this from my post on the Xoom forum. I was wondering if anyone with Honeycomb running on a Nook color could test out my new What To Watch on Netflix app. It lets you do more sophisticated searches for movies and manage your Netflix queues. The app was designed specifically for Honeycomb tablets.
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13143801#post13143801 including how to download it.
I'm anxious to hear how the layout looks on the NC with Honeycomb since I've developed it on a Xoom.
You can also reach me at [email protected]
Thanks!
-Gregg Reno
PS - no, unfortunately it doesn't stream Netflix
Hi all. I've been working on a new Honeycomb only app called What To Watch, and I'm looking for some beta testers. Anyone interested in helping out?
I wanted a better way to browse for Netflix movies and also manage my queues. For example, I wanted to do something like "show me all Sci Fi movies available on Instant with a 3 star rating or higher, rated PG-13 or R, sorted by release date". I couldn't find any other web site or app to do this, so I figured I would build it myself.
There are 3 main sections:
1) My Searches - this is where you can create your own searches and save them for later. I create two to start with. Click on one and it will display the list in the panel on the right, 25 at a time. Once you click on one of the My Seaches items, you can edit it by long pressing it or clicking the Edit button at the top. Note that this uses a beta API from Netflix called OData. It's the only API that lets you do sophisticated searches like this, but unfortunately it is subject to change from Netflix and it may not always be current with the main Netflix library.
2) Netflix Queues - what you would expect. For example, what is in your DVD and Instant queues.
3) Top Lists - this comes from the Netflix web site rather than the API. It shows what the top titles are for each category. This method won't show the star ratings until you drill into a particular title.
You can download the apk here (note this is case sensitive):
http://jigawattlabs.com/temp/WhatToWatch.apk
Known issues:
This is the first release. Should probably call it an Alpha!
Authenticating with Netflix isn't quite right yet. You may wind up with the web browser still open after exiting the app, and you may get another instance of the app. But just exit everything and it should be ok
There is a bug with the Netflix API with TV series and specials. This is a problem on their end, so you might get some unexpected results when browsing TV shows
I would appreciate any and all comments in terms of general UI impressions, bugs, performance, usability.
You can reach me directly at [email protected].
Thanks!
-Gregg Reno
our builds are not true honeycomb, unfortunately. we are one sdk level behind and don't have the proper honeycomb APIs.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Ah, ok fzr-r4 - thanks. I didn't know that!
Hope you all can get your hands on the latest build from Google. I think the NC would make a good low cost honeycomb tablet.

Go!Chat for Facebook
I didnt really used to talk to that much people on fb that much via messaging on a regular basis but i recently started talking to someone and wanted to receive notifications so long story short
Facebook app apparently doesn't give messaging notifications
Facebook messenger worked great the day I downloaded it then stopped the next day I kept checking to see if it was getting killed but wasn't just didn't wanna give notifications (why Facebook whhhy!)
Friendcaster is bad at any notifications all together so this was just 1 of them if I wanted to get proper notifications I'd need the pro version
Friendcaster Chat could only message people who were online and by online I mean on a computer if there on a phone won't work
this was the only 1 I've tried that worked

Can u provide a brief description of those apps I haven't used them which means the only way ill get a description would be if I read the description on the play store but that would mean I might not describe the app properly since I haven't used it also a link would be VERY appreciated

They are just universal All in one messenger apps. They both let you chat with your buddies on Facebook, Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger, Live Messenger etc
But I guess ebuddy cant send messages to offline contact (I'm not sure, btw) and Nimbuzz can.
nimbuzz---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nimbuzz&hl=en
eBuddy ---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ebuddy.android
And also there is a whatsapp alternative called "ebuddy XMS" or simply "XMS" ---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ebuddy.android.xms&hl=enc
Thanks and I added it

Anyone using CumulusTV?

Looks promising, but Live Channels sees it as not set up after is parses the channels. Wondering if anyone has this app working?
Its exactly what i have been seeking the past few days, but its unfortunately too buggy for me right now
it keeps popping up with JSON errors, cant sync properly or parse the JSON with google drive and when i try import the channels into the live chanels app, it shows them being added but then still says cumulus TV is not set up.
After leaving a review on the play store i got this response promptly after
Hi, I am aware that there are occasionally stability issues. I do read crash reports and fix the ones I can. Additionally, I'm in the midst of a massive overhaul. If you have any specific issues you'd like me to fix, feel free to send me an email. ([email protected])

Sounds exactly like what I"m getting. I was able to copy a JSON file I found online and can get the streams to play in the cumulus TV app, but live channels is doing what yours is...showing not set up. I emailed him from his Github page and he responded almost instantly and said he was pushing an update to see if he could fix it and to try in the morning. Tried again this morning after it received an update and still doing the same thing. Haven't heard back yet from him.
I havent had any more json errors and the app feels more stable since that update, however it still wont integrate into the live channel app
EDIT: its been said that integration to live channels will be fixed in the next update, until then the last working version was v1.4.6, i sideloaded that and it worked fine
grab the 1.4.6 apk HERE
Also didnt know that you can set websites as channels from 1.4.7 onwards, really cool!
Where can I find some us json files?

serpent, are you using this to watch the free to air channels via IP? could you share your config, please?
The thing looks really good, however where can I find such channels to add? I mean, m3u8. Is there a directory around? (And please don't tell me to google it...)
I'm watching a few local stations (Australia) that offer a live stream from their website, no station will offer a direct link to their stream so you need to do a bit of digging in the websites source code or just grab a program such as a m3u8 or rtmp sniffer to get the link
Cant say at all if its legal or not, but the channels im using are free to air in my country, so unless im taking advertising revenue away from them by not viewing it in their website, i dont see a problem.
long story short, this program gives you the ability but you need to put in the legwork to find the streams

I second that post. Without some "sources" listed somewhere, the app isn't pretty much useful (for us lazy people - or, inept people) lol
Well I've just searched Google for the past few days looking for some US json files, to no avail. No one wants to lend a hand?
There is a good chance that you will not find any JSON files for cumulusTV on the internet.
The JSON is generated from CumulusTV and most likely has its own formatting.
Your best bet is to add a 2 or 3 of the supplied sources (nasaTV etc) to generate your initial JSON file, then open it from google drive to see just how its formatted.
In general though you need to go on the hunt for your stream url's to add
A great website to find streams is www.squidtv.net
Generally you wont find many entertaining streams, most are news based like bloombergTV,Al Jazeera, ArirangTV etc
but some can have some good documentaries like NHK World
Countries that offer their main channels online like UK's BBC/ITV are usually geoblocked and require a VPN to view.
To add them to CumulusTV is an entirely seperate matter, you need dig through the source code to find the stream link (typically a .m3u8 file) or use a stream url sniffer which are freely available on the internet.

Thank you for the "head start". That seems like an awful lot of digging and work for not much return. In my head, I was thinking that I'd be able to get all the regular USA channels the "foreign" ones aren't really of use or, interest.

LAN(WiFi)-only remote desktop Android app

Hey guys,
I used Chrome Remote desktop for a little while to view/control my computer from my Android phone. It works remarkably well but I got a little sketched out by the permissions Chrome Remote Desktop requires from your computer (basically full access). The permissions do make sense, since you need full access, and it has to go through an internet third party "cloud" (Google). However I think I'd feel better if there was something that didn't send out everything through the cloud and instead just used the Local Area Network (LAN through Wi-Fi). What do you guys use/can recommend?
I do use Unified Remote when I just need to move the mouse/type remotely without a video feed showing on the phone. For example I use it when my laptop is hooked up to the TV for a movie and I can still see the TV, but I do not use its screen mirroring feature. It's a paid option and not sure if it stays LAN only or goes through their servers.
Anyone? Thread was moved.
