RS988: Is my camera defective (Snapchat)? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hey all, so I got the unlocked US model of the G5. First thing I noticed is a scratch on the back on the paint near the camera. I was upset, but thinking if I returned it, I'd get something worse back.
Anyways, when I went to use Snapchat, I noticed if everything is on the dark side I can see some lines on the video/photo viewfinder and it stays in photos/videos if it shows while recording. So far this only appears to happen in Snapchat, so I'm hoping it's something with the app, as it doesn't show in the stock camera. (See sample video below)
Can anyone who uses Snapchat check if this is a thing?
Sample: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8OF-gTbFNmSVVdLSlAtdGdYUWM (that's South Park in the background fyi)
Thanks for any input!

I think if you have your phone in any version of English other than US, it will change the anti-banding setting in all camera apps. I can't watch the video right now, but it sounds like what you're describing. Snapchat is working just fine for me.

I don't think that's the problem. I'm in the U.S. and have it set to U.S. (just tried UK, as well).
It comes and goes and only on the right side of the screen.
I noticed also in the stock camera app it seems the viewfinder "lags" (has lots of motion blur) while taking photos., causing some photos to come out blurry. This never happened on my G5 H815.

My snapchat is the same, I get those lines down too

I have a Verizon G5 and have those exact issues in Snapchat. Strange, dully colored vertical lines when moving the rear camera, and a dark front camera.
The front seems to be a bit better from an update, but I'm thinking they have no idea how to code for the dual cameras.

I have the same problem on my g5 rs988

Update your Snapchat app, the issues I use to have is that front camera flashes on snapchat when trying to use it in low light photos or rooms, inside places, etc. Otherways the photo came extremaly grainy too, but no that lines.
Later I joined beta and it seems solved now i dont see that flashes from black to light or grainy selfies, even the resolution looks like normal camera even in low light

Same for me with G5 H850

The snapchat camera is fixed now.

[Q] Camera Weirdness with Gummy

I've updated to Gummy, and everything seems to be working pretty marvelously. One issue I've discovered is the camera. I could describe it, but pictures are worth 1000 words. See attached.
It only does this with the front camera, the placement of the lines seems to be somewhat random, and the lines don't appear during capture - only on the saved image. Has anyone seen this before? Is the problem with the Camera.apk (I get the same issues when taking pictures with the front camera from within other apps)? Is it fixable?
Thanks.

[Q] [ISSUE] Camera Issue or something else?

So today when I opened up the camera app I noticed something weird, It looks like something is stuck on camera lens. I tried with the google camera app as well, but the black hairline mark was still present and appeared on photos as well. Any thoughts? Photos attached with the mark toward the lower left side.

Google Camera "Lens Blur" and delayed shutter on third party cameras.

Has anyone gotten this to work? Whenever I take a picture, it ends up being black. Google Camera and Camera FV-5 both are slow to fire, usually a few seconds compared to the stock camera. Has anyone see this or know a workaround?
Yep, I have the exact same problem. I suspect it is because there is 2 rear cameras instead of one. However, you can use the front camera and lens blur will work, although it is not very practical...
If only we could have the source code of google camera...

I really want this lens blue too.
I can't figure it out but sometimes it does work.. mostly not. About 1 out of 5 photos makes it, the rest are black. I can't figure out why some work and some don't..
Haven't hit the issue?using Camera nx though (basically ported Google camera for 6p and 5x on 7.0)

White balance broken after Pie update.

The automatic white balance is broken after pie update. The fail is clearly visible with Sunny set up. The pictures come up yellow. Even putting the WB to sunny is not enougth, with gcam you have to do that, tap to focus and take the picture fast because it put everything yellow again automaticly. This is with all the cams, it is not only gcam. Did someone notice this? To reproduce the bug try to take a picture of a Building with the sun on it.

I didn't experience any issues in any camera app, photos are identical to Oreo
I am sure it is not a problem with my phone. @stronge.
It is a problem with the camera module itself after pie as with nokia camera the problem persist. Also it is only in sunny situations.

Camera quality degraded. Blur photos since few weeks.

I have started experiencing this issue with my galaxy s9+.
The camera no longer capture those impressive shots which it used to capture last month or until few weeks ago.
Now the photos are blur and focus is very bad.
Anyone facing similar issue.
Can anyone help me fix it?
My camera is capturing photos, the shots which it used take were very impressive and now the quality has become very bad all of sudden.
Please see the 1st photo in white t-shirt. It is few weeks ago.
The second photo in black t-shirt is captured now. It is very blur. No matter how many times I try or change location or light condition. Photos are very blur and focus is very bad.
FYI... I reset the camera settings and clean the partition cache several times.
Thanks for your help.

To see if it's the hardware or the software, I would suggest you try the same photo setup with a DIFFERENT camera application to see if the problem is in all the camera apps or in just the one you're using.
Each camera app will have its own set of settings which may help you debug, e.g., the GCam port has these settings screenshotted below which can help you debug such as "dirty lens warning" and resolution setup.
But the SIMPLEST camera app to test might be this FOSS camera app from Mark Harmon. If that doesn't work, nothing will.
There is also the free "camera2api" probe utility program which may provide hardware malfunction indicators.
