Not all available apps listed in Open With - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having a weird issue when opening files from smb shares, video for example, using any file browsing app.
When I go to open a video file from an smb share, not all the video players I have installed get listed as choices to play the video.
For instance, I have VLC (and several other video players) installed but it's not available in the list of apps to play the video. I've used ES File Explorer, which I've always used, and Amaze, same thing.
In ES my choices are only ES Player and the android built in Video Player. In Amaze it just starts playing.
If I copy the file locally, all my video players are available to choose from.
I cleared data for vlc, ES and Amaze and/or reinstalled all several times and I can't get my video playing apps to show up as options to play the video. Also tried "Opening As" and choosing video, same thing.
I factory reset the phone and it works, it also works fine on all my other devices. I have no idea where to look at this point.
Don't think it matters but the device is a One Plus One running CM13. Was using a nightly from back in March, just tried last nights nightly, same issue.
I've also cleared all app defaults.
Thx for any assistance!

Anybody?

Can't play upnp content (SOLUTION FOUND)

Hi guys,
I used to get a popup menu to select which app to play video when streaming upnp, I no longer get this popup and it seems like a player has set itself as a default and this app will not play my mp4 files, I've gone though all of my apps and non are set as default.
I'm running Vegan-Tab RC1 Gingerbread. Everything else seems fine.
I installed CleanDefault but still no popup. Can anyone suggest a solution.
UPDATE: I installed ES File Explorer and got the pop-up back, however when I try and play using ES Video Player I'm getting "Sorry The application has stopped unexpectedly, Please try again" I know my server is working ok since I can stream to my phone with no problem, this is only happening on the GTab.
Installed NWS Player and still cannot play video, they are encoded h264, is there a downloadable codec for Android? Anyone?
SOLVED BubbleUPnP to locate the file and Rockplayer Lite together works!

What are you streaming with, what app were you using on your tab when it worked and what app is now trying to open the videos?
In streaming with TVersity

Hey appreciate everyone's help with all the gtab issues. I'm a newbie and also have the Vegan-Tab RC1 Gingerbread installed, but continue to have video playback issues from not only web content, but from usbdisk files as well. Case in point, watching mp4 of Jeff Beck from my usb attached to gtab and plays about 7 minutes then locks up and I have to power down the gtab and reboot. Getting pretty frustrated, but hope someone can direct me to someone who can help. I've read tons and nothing seems to be helping much. Thanks for your time.

[Q] Video defaults being lost.

Can anyone help me on this, my GS2 loses it's default video file association on most reboots, and on a couple of occaisions without rebooting, I use the android video player for videos, which I check to use as default everytime I get the popup, also have quickpic and poweramp installed, poweramp is only in the choice box if it's an mp4, for all other video types it's a choice of video player or quickpic.
I've tried changing the video player apk for a newer version, an updated version of quickpic, and a 101 other things in the past week, and now have no hair left to pull out, this really does have me puzzled.
Obviously Android is losing the setting for some reason, does anyone know of a soloution ? seems completely ridiculous to me that the os can't even remember something as simple as which app to use to open a video file.

[Q] Resetting Default Programs Settings

Ok, Im kinda stuck here. I installed a video player that finally ran wmv files, but does not open correctly sometimes. By mistake I set it as default player and have not been able to reset the option.
I have gone through the logical basic process of going to manage applications and clearing defaults but in all video audio programs this option is grayed out. I even downloaded DefaultApp Manager but even there options are empty for viedo and audio. I did clear all caches through CWM and still the same problem.
I was wondering what can I do to at least recover the option to choose a default program for certain types of files?
Do you have any other options installed to choose from? Maybe try uninstalling the video player, then install a different player and try to watch a video. It should ask which player to use. Then you can re-install the other video player and just don't set a default so you can choose which to use for different video types. Which player is it? Try Mobo Player v5 it has ARM 7 optimizations and can play many different types of video, supposedly including .wmv files. Or if you are streaming from PC, try Qloud Media Server, which converts your videos on the fly to an android friendly format. Both work great for me, but I don't have any .wmv videos.
Ok found a solution. The default settings go back to ES explorer which is the file explorer I use. Messing with its settings found one saying reset app defaults! Ta da!!! I could choose my player again.
Tested Mobo player as u mentioned. Very nice!

Remix OS - application to play DVD

Please does anyone know about some app that can be used to play DVDs ?
My DVD drive seems working fine (can be seen as /dev/block/sr0, can be mounted manually.. BTW I installed Remix using it, as all attempts using usb were failing). But I can't find any application to play DVD video.
I tried Kodi - which has even some settings like "play DVD automatically", but can't find how to make it start playing.
Tried also VLC (which claims support for DVD), but also can't find how to tell it to start playing.
Thanks for any hints..
try using the media player and play the file 'VIDEO_TS.IFO' , see if it works?
I tried opening the VIDEO_TS.IFO or the *.VOB files after manually mounting the dvd using several players - MX player, Kodi, Vlc, BS player, Vlc beta.
MX player does nothing. BS player seems to not work on Remix at all. Kodi looks like tries to do something, but after a moment says error that it can't play the file. Vlc beta dost not work too.
Only Vlc works - it starts playing the .VOB files. There is no DVD menu etc, but at least some progress, thanks
If you have some tips which more video players would be worth trying, please let me know.
pulled this from a forum, give it a whirl and let us know how it goes. Apparently it will allow you to play from a folder or even iso.
With the menus and stuff.
- download Daroon player from Market
- copy VIDEO_TS folder from your DVD to your SD card
- Start Daroon and click on DVD Folders icon.
It will find your VIDEO_TS folder and play it.

I tried the Daroon player. It looks like it tries to start playing the DVD from the VIDEO_TS folder, but immediately returns back to the main menu, without saying any error. But it does the same also on some other normal .avi and other video files - it start playing some, but just returns to menu on others.

Change default video player

I just picked up my S9+ this past weekend, so I'm a little behind the curve, but one thing I've noticed has me perplexed. I have movie files, videos, etc, that I've had saved on my card, that the native player doesn't play, so as I always do, I installed VLC Player. If I go to the My Files app and pull the video up, it will prompt and ask what player I would like, with the usual Just Once / Always option.
However, in the Gallery itself, it always defaults to the stock video player (which means those above-mentioned files will not play). At no point have I ever been presented an option from within the Gallery to pick a player. Looking in the Default Apps menu, there's the standard Home Screen, Browser, and so on but nothing for the Video Player. I've tried setting VLC as the default player from within My Files, and it does affect anything I play from there, but the Gallery doesn't hang onto that. It's very possible that I'm missing something, but if there's a way to change it, I haven't found it yet.
On a tangent to that, if there's no way to set the default media player to choose files from within the Gallery app, does anyone know any simple 3rd party Gallery apps that are similar in form and function to stock? I don't need a lot of bells or whistles - just albums, and MAYBE the option to hide/show folders but even that's nothing important. But most of the ones I've seen are all about trying to do something massively grand, which is more involved than I would need.
Cheers in advance.
I am having the same issue
Just bought Galaxy S9 and I had Xiaomi before
After I transferred all my files from the older phone to the new one I realized none of the videos from the older phone is supported in the new Galaxy S9 which is very disappointing.
I also downloaded VLC and tried to set it as default but didn't find any option to do that...
Why to set default,Open that app to play videos
