i don't know for sure but probably not. I have had the phone for two years now and the bootloader was never locked previously

I wish I had that link about an hour ago, but figured out how to use the SamFirm Tool posted in another thread. Happy Flashing everyone
Also. First boot is taking ages

I'm so excited! AH. I need to get Odin now -.-
How does everyone like it so far?
Also, does anyone know if it would be a good idea for me to flash back to the stock Lollipop rom and then flash the update via Odin? I'm on a custom rom right now and I don't know if that will mess things up.

I was rooted on FOL1, flashed the marshmallow update via odin. Make sure you factory reset to set the binary status as offical, because I'm having booting issues

Have you been able to Root? Please share your experience. Can't wait really!

I'm still waiting on the update to boot.

Hmmm, after rebooting and upgrading the "google Play Services" app, Google play finds an update for Samsung Voice Recorder which won't update and crashes with an error code 505. Will try and mess with the permissions for that app.

Decided to flash the stock rooted rom and update via Kies. As of right now it is optimizing app 105/273
Update: It rebooted after optimizing the last app and now its been hanging out at the T-Mobile screen for the last four or so minutes
Update 2: FINALLY got it to boot :3 I ended up flashing the image again through Odin~
Update 3: Rooted (followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...sm-g900t-firmware-t3358190/page4#post66995024)
Yay~ Marshmallows
Edit: It looks like some people are having trouble with this update so I'm going to give a quick rundown of what I did and how I got everything to go smoothly. Now I'm not saying this is the correct way to things because most likely it isn't, but this is is just what I did that worked (for me, hopefully for you too).
Step 1. I flashed the stock rooted rom on my phone and unrooted it (not sure if this part is necessary) and then connected it to Kies to let it update that way (I was too lazy to mess with Odin tbh).
Step 2. After realizing I had been stuck on the T-Mobile splash screen for about 20 minutes to long I downloaded the image from the Mega link provided on this thread. Booted the phone into download mode, flashed via Odin, phone booted properly in no time.
Step 3. Installed Custom Recovery and Rooted the phone following the method in the link posted above.
MARSHMALLOW PARTY~

So I installed via Odin and as I was going through the initial setup it asks about WiFi and I turn it on and it keeps turning itself off after a few seconds.
UPDATE: Rebooted and was able to get WiFi to stay on.

What root options should we be trying? CF Auto Root?

I installed this over the top of Lollipop using Odin. all my data carried over and everything seems to be running just fine. Installed TWRP and SuperSU, roots working just fine as well.
Only issue I'm coming across is an update to the Samsung voice recorder in the Play Store keeps failing with error 505.

I successfully rooted marshmallow with flashing twrp (latest version) via odin 3.11.1 then flashing superSU 2.74 in twrp = profit?!?!
Next I may try a debloat script I found around xda then viperfx4android. Thank you T-Mobile

[HOW TO] Disable OTA Update (G-Note 3) Notifications!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The user lordazoroth originally posted this method here in the T-Mobile SGSIII forum. However, I have confirmed that it works with the Note 3 (at least with the Verizon variant) with one small difference. Feel free to give us both a "THANKS" if this helped you out.
You can disable the OTA Update notification by following the steps below. Just be aware that there is a small change in STEP #3.
Solution:
Step 1. Delete the update located in /cache/fota/ (may be /data/fota) and then click the update notification prompt to install it, it will instantly fail and the notification will disappear. (My phone rebooted and tried to install the update - this is the point where my Note 3 gave the update failed notification. I just rebooted the phone and went to STEP #2.)
Step 2. Disable otacerts.zip located in /etc/security by renaming it to otacerts.zip.bak
Step 3. Disable FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk by renaming with .bak extensions located in /system/app/
Step 4. Reboot
(NOTE: The difference in STEP #3 for the Galaxy Note 3 is that the [FotaClient.apk] is named [LocalFotaClient.apk] instead of just [FotaClient.apk]. All of the other steps are the same.
Continue running JB 4.3 and enjoy your Note 3 without that nagging update notification!
But the kitkat update is awesome... so you might want to reconsider doing this

Wouldn't just freezing the "SDM" app do the trick? And possibly "FWUpgrade", although i heard that just SDM works

I personally use ROM Toolbox to do it
I got the annoying OTA update today... I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE!!! Why can't they give us an option instead of forcing it down our throats?
Is there any way to disable the update WITHOUT ROOTING? I read everywhere you need ROOT ACCESS to delete the SDM.apk FILE and such. I can't delete it without root.
How can I get rid of the annoying update WITHOUT ROOTING or what is the easiest way to gain root without wiping out everything and starting over?
As of this morning...Verizon seems to be trying to "ram the update" onto your note 3
I was rooted and safestrapped on MJE and when I unplugged my phone from the charger this morning...I had a notice that the update failed to install.
I had previously downloaded, but removed the download.

rooting (with jb roms, for us vzw n3 owners) does not wipe anything at all. Kingo is easy. There's how-to threads and vids.

No way of knowing how far it got. If it was able to get the bootloader nailed in...yes. Screwed. Welcome to kk. If not, whatever you do will wipe at this point.
Safest bet to try and see if you can retain jb is with odin...if it lets you. If it does, great. If it doesn't, you still need odin because you just interrupted a firmware update and probably just soft bricked your phone. So you'll need odin to put kk on your phone.
--
If niether of these things look good, they aren't. So try this first. Try booting to recovery. If you can, it's possible you just saved yourself from learning to use odin. Do a factory reset and reboot. See if it boots to jb. If it does, root asap. If not (it just hangs forever or loops), you're bricked. Try to odin jb. If it keeps failing, you're stuck with kk and you need to odin kk.
If you can't get to recovery and just hangs or loops, odin jb or kk. Whichever it lets you.
If it doesn't let you boot to recovery because it continues to upgrade, at this point let it. This is the ONLY possible scenario that you will keep anything.
Mind you, everything I just covered will never touch any files on external sd memory.
This is a lot to process. So take your time. Good luck!

GRRR it installed Kitkat successfully. I'm SO MAD.. I should have set the annoying OTA notification for a different time so that it wouldn't constantly pop up every second... I would have been home free rooted on Jellybean if it weren't for the STUPID UPDATE.
So can I still DOWNGRADE to Jellybean and be rooted? or did Verizon LOCK or restrict stuff with the update? Can I go back to Jellybean keeping all my files?

I read that too... I can't believe one simple tap mistake ruined my whole first time rooting adventure... Using KINGO was so easy and right when I WAS ABOUT TO DELETE THE STUPID SDM file in the system folder, the update popup came up and accidentally hit the UPDATE And it just rebooted instantly!! I hate how they don't even allow you to cancel or anything... like totally forcing it in your face!!
I still have SuperSU but no longer functions it says "There isn o SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"
So there's no way to have root access now?? I can't flash back to Jellybean??? Verizon/Samsung really screwed us here. There must be a way to have root access in Jellybean... I don't care for custom roms... I just want root access!!

So it would be pointless for me to try to use Odin to flash back to stock Jellybean and then KINGO? It won't even flash back?
I did successfully root before OTA installed Kitkat on mine... does that make any difference?

[NC4 4.4.2 KK](towelroot) Root achieved from OTA NC4

First post, I didn't see one about this already and want to let everyone know.
geohot has made it possible to root our VZW Stock Note 3 NC4 KitKat 4.4.2 via the website www.towelroot.com/
It's the most simple root tool I have ever used hands down. Go to the site on your mobile browser, click the lambda, download and run APK right on your phone. Device will reboot and you will have root. Just did this on my note 3 last night. Only thing I think you have to check is to make sure your kernel has a date of before June 3.

That worked. Root worked. SuperSU disabled knox. Awesome.
I got the worst of all possibilities. Installed towelroot, ran it, did not get SuperSu, but on restart, it shows as "Custom" which means that Knox was tripped. What are my options now? Running latest NC4 OTA update.

Not necessarily, boot into download mode and check know there. My phones said it since day 1 when I got it and threw on a custom rom. My Knox though is still 0x0. As I said you can check that on your download screen. I used towel root on another phone with no issues as well.
I installed towelroot, then used root checker to verify, then downloaded and installed supersu, then rebooted and let supersu disable knox. I'm on NC4 latest. It worked perfectly.

No you will need to find access to to a computer to fix it. Keep it powered off or pull battery till such time you find someones pc to use.

Thanks for the thumbnail. I did find it in TB and froze it but I'm still getting the update notification in my notification pull down.
Did you restart the phone after
that may work
Don't know if this will work or not, but on the Galaxy S3 the way to stop getting nagged about an OTA was to edit build.prop and replace all references to the old ROM with the new one. So you could try making a backup of build.prop, then edit all references to ZV4 and change them to ZV6. Save the file, make sure permissions are set to rw-, r--, r-- (0644), and reboot.
I would strongly suggest making a nandroid backup first.
Here's how I have been doing it:
1. Download Autorun Manager
2. In settings under advanced enable view services
3. Go to Google Services Framework and disable update...see below.
At your own risk if you decide to try it, of course.

This is the recommended way. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57182591
If the update has already downloaded. Disabling the OTA still wont get rid the the notification. Easy way to get rid of it is long press it and go to app info. This will take you to Google Play Services. Simply uncheck show notifications and the system update in the pull down notifications will go away.
Just a temporary fix to get it out of the way. I reccommend just downloading a ZV6 rooted rom.

Lucky you. Good find. Glad you got it sorted. Now you can relax.
I have a question that I wanted to ask before I go any further. I bought a G3 last week, rooted it and installed twrp recovery, and have done multiple backups.. Had a hardware defect so I had to exchange my phone for another new one. I received a system update just now so I was going to accept the OTA update since its not rooted, completely stock. My questions are will I be able to root and instally twrp after this update and once I install all my apps, and if rooting and installing twrp is successful, can I restore my backup that I did on my other phone, even though its a different phone? Its from the same carrier and same model phone. Thanks for your feedback.

Don't take OTA. Root it and TWRP it. Then flash STOCK ROM ZV6 Deodexed or Odexed, then you'll be up to date and keep root with TWRP.

Back to stock
ZVA is out and I was going to update, but when I opened the app to flash stock recovery and the other partitions, it backed up the already modified partitions. I am hoping to avoid having to flash stock with lg flash tool. Does anyone have suggestions on how to modify the backup the app thinks is stock so I can go back to actual stock? I used Auto rec since jelly bean on the g2 and love how well this works! Any help is much appreciated
Were you on stock rom the whole time? In that case ask someone to send you his backup, I can create a flashable for you

Will this work on ZVA Stock Roms? I got before Security Error as message on the screen and had to install everything again.
If it's lollipop then yes..if it's anything else then NO

LS 990 lollipop android 5.0.1 (next flash stock boot zva and phone power on )
I tried this method and it does NOT work on ZVA. I got "Security Error" on reboot and I had to reflash from scratch.
The twrp works but it doesn't boot?
OK offer me help then , let's make it work. PM

I kept getting this. Did you ever get out to work?
I just tried this yesterday on a new Sprint G3 on ZVA. The process seemed to work fine, but when it was a complete, I booted up to the "Security Error" and had to flash stock.
So i did this (on ZVA) but before i did it i downloaded a CyanogenMod nightly to my external sd card and after i flashed twrp and when i went to boot up into stock ROM i got the security error also.. so i just went into twrp and flashed the CyanogenMod ROM and it booted fine
any more info on this? I am rooted but hesitant to install this recovery. I do want CM but I want to be able to go back to a stock rooted as well. By the looks of it, i cant?

You can get back to stock if you use lg flash tool to go stock and re-root. But if you use this to flash twrp then download CyanogenMod first and make sure you have it saved to your sd card because you wont be able to boot into your stock rom because of the security error.
Also you might be able to to flash a stock rooted ROM but i haven't tried one yet

I was stock the whole time, the only exception was busybox. I gave up and flashed the ZVA TOT. It was boring and frustrating, so I'm back on ZV8 and used autorec again and made sure to keep a backup in the cloud in case i ran into the same problem. If you hear of anyone having the same issue I can provide all the files needed and would be more than willing to send them to whoever needs them.

i am on ZV8 just downgraded so I could install a GSM unlocked rom and now it's completely bricked.

Galaxy Alpha AT&T G850A Rooted!

I know this is not the best way to do so but I successfully got my G850A AT&T variant rooted using Kingroot 4.8.0.
Also when I boot up the phone, the lock icon turned into an open lock icon with the text "custom." Does that mean my bootloader has been unlocked?
I would like to install custom ROMs but had no luck installing twrp. Any ideas? I can try anything since this is a dead phone to me anyway.
If it is true, try SLTECAN twrp

That didn't work out. "SECURE DOWNLOAD" is enabled in download mode and when I try to flash the recovery it tells me "check fail: recovery." I guess the bootloader is still locked. Is there any way I could still install a custom ROM? Root is working fine.
Try install flashify app then try twrp with it

There's no recovery image for it. The SLTECAN is only flashable via Odin which is not possible with the G850A.
Although I think we could get custom ROMs using Flash Fire if someone can port the ROMs to 850A. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com//at...tmas-heres-t3516196/post70011921#post70011921
You can create .img from tar or .tar from .img
Open tar.md5 with 7zip, extract .img to phone and use flashify, tell us if worked
Everyone thumbs up the post

Flashing 850W TWRP soft-bricks the device with the message "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been on the device ..." blah blah blah. I think a Safestrap recovery is better suited for this phone.

Can you give us a tutorial guide on how to do it. Most of us (including me) have tried the version of king root that your using and it fails to root.
However, you have given us stuck with the AT&T variant of this phone a little bit of hope, as you confirmed it can be rooted.

http://forum.xda-developers.com//at...tmas-heres-t3516196/post70011921#post70011921 I used this guide, with Kingroot 4.8.0 instead of Kingroot 4.8.1 but I don't think it matters. The guide did say that you should keep trying until you get it to root. I got root successfully first try, twice, however.

I got the same thing. I've heard AOSP ROMs are not going to work because of the locked bootloader. And TouchWiz ROMs will work if you port in an AT&T boot image making it "authorized."

And there's an S5 version of Safestrap but it only works with a Kitkat kernel. It might work with the Alpha since they have basically the same specs. I might try it in the future.
Does the Kingroot version matter? I tried this with Kingroot 5.0.0 instead of 4.8.0, and while it seems to initially fail, it actually does work. Verified with Root Checker and Kingroot itself was able to give root access to apps. However, it appears to cause certain apps like Camera (Samsung's) and S Health to fail. Uninstalled Kingroot and everything was working again (albeit unrooted).

You have to use 4.81 because later versions do not allow you to remove it and replace it with SuperSU.
OMG
IT ACTUALLY WORKED! I tried it twice and on the second time it worked. I am so happy! Now to find a custom rom for it!
I reverted to KitKat and rooted it so that I could use Xposed lol

My AT&T Galaxy Alpha is running KitKat right now. I'll post the firmware as soon as I can (probably somewhere around 12:00PM Eastern) tomorrow up to mega.nz for all to use
Edit: Firmware now up: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-alpha/general/samsung-galaxy-alpha-att-sm-g850a-t3535938
Mine lost root access after a couple of days.
