[Q] how do I install a recovery on D9503? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I updated to the latest version 6.0.1. 572
I also unlocked the Bootloader and rooted with King root (Temporary root)
But what I can't boot to the stock recovery, and whenever I try to, it automatically boots to system
And I tried to install twrp, I ended up getting it soft bricked and I had to reinstall lastest firmware
So, is there any way I can install a custom recovery?
Thanks

Do not use standalone recoveries at the moment. Use ROMs that has recovery else you'l end up in bootloop.
For now, rcovery fix is an issue with 6.0.1. So i suggest you simply stick with a ROM like Existenz MM V1 or any other, by downgrading and installing recovery with root AND then flashing 6.0.1(with recovery & root). That way you can have recovery.
I too am waiting for a recovery fix so just managing without recovery for now as non of the fixes are working for me.
Good Luck buddy!

Well, thanks for the help, downgraded to 5.1.1 (or should I downgrade to something more older?)
But I need help to choose a custom kernel (I know how to flash kernels using fastboot ) can you suggest me a kernel that has a custom recovery
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

5.1.1 is fine as you can root it. Just install Recovery( nuts dual recovery/ choose your version carefully & Follow instructions). if you'r going to upgrade to 6.0.1, i would suggest this kernel -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2965480.
Just follow the instructions carefully and you'l be fine.
BTW, if you only want recovery, you can easily install in 5.1.1 after geting it rooted using kingroot.

Done, thanks!
After converting from kingroot to SuperSU (permanent root) and flashing dual recovery, then flashing a prerooted 6.0.1 ROM, now I have everything I need :good: :victory:

If you buy a Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 phone with Lollipop 5.0.1 or later installed or take the OTA update to Lollipop 5.0.1 or later, you will be locked into the OC1 bootloader. Since there still is not a ROOT exploit available for OC1, you will not be able to ROOT, revert to a previous level ROM or load a custom ROM with OC1.
If the phone has KitKat NK4 Bootloader or prior is a workaround to update to Lollipop 5.0.1 and stay on the NK4 Boot Loader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545oc1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3096558
Using this process will allow you to ROOT and install other ROMS.
With KitKat NK4 Bootloader or prior you can use Odin to revert back to the NC5 Bootloader, Root, install Safestrap and flash any Safestrap compatible ROM for the I545.
FYI, I use the Empty Galaxy Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/development/rom-empty-galaxy-v1-5-t2968567 It has no Samsung or Verizon Bloat and has excellent battery life.
I figured out how to unlock my recovery on rooted sch-i545 on of1 5.0.1
---------- Post added at 11:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:27 AM ----------
Run script: system/bin/uncrypt
In root explorer make sure and mount r/w.
Find : system/bin
At the bottom of the bin file find
uncrypt press and choose exicute script.
The phone will auto boot into stock recovery.... Choose to reboot and your recovery will be permanently unlocked.
Feel free to shut off and boot to recovery as many times as you like. Now install custom recovery, roms, xposed framework and so on

Having said that... both OC1 and OF1 have root exploits. Once that is accomplished, you can flash TWZ modified ROMS using Fireflash. See here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/development/stang5litre-ediition-5-0-t3132555

HELP: Soft (hopefully brick) after trying to install the latest OS.

I would really appreciate assistance.
I followed the steps in http://forum.xda-developers.com/xper...8-pre-t3205929 and my phone will not start.
I don't currently have the ability to try flashing an FTF but I will be attempting to do so once I get home from work - I will try flashing https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347818113.
Prior to having this issue, I had a fully rooted 5.0.2 that was fully functional.
Will I need to first install Kitkat to root my phone or will I be able to flash the FTF and keep the existing root? I could follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/xper...5-0-2-t3094094 instead?
If someone could give me a quick guide as to what I need to do at this point to have fully functional root again, I would really appreciate it.
Unlocked or locked bootloader?
Locked.
I just had exactly the same problem with the same rom - really a waste of time. Ended up downloading through Xperifirm and building both 4.4.4 and 5.1.1 roms myself. Wasted a lots of time restoring lost data also.
You have to go back to Kit Kat, install dual recovery then flash the latest prerooted Lollipop. Just use the more tested roms for C6833 if you can't build one yourself.
---------- Post added at 01:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:05 PM ----------
You can also just flash the stock ftf without having to wipe all the data, in order to back up or recover everything you want.

Can you show the step of solving this problem.
There's already thread with detailed guide for rooting 5.0.2 (in the OP also):forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/general/guide-root-z-ultra-stock-lollipop-5-0-2-t3094094.
There's also a better instruction here: techbeasts.com/2015/04/18/root-xperia-z-ultra-c6802-c6833-c6806-14-5-a-0-242-5-0-2-lollipop-firmware/
For rooting 4.4.4, just install the NUT's dualrecovery which will root it, no need for a separate step. For 5.1.1, if you want to build the flashable zip, get the ftf from the androidhost link above, or use Xperifirm.
So here are the steps:
.Download the 4.4.4 ftf (for C6833 will work) and flash it using flashtool.
.Install dualrecovery using the install.bat.
.Get a tested prerooted zip for 5.1.1 and flash in TWRP.
.Or download stock 5.1.1 ftf to build a prerooted flashable zip with PRFCreator then flash in TWRP.
Good luck.
tnthd2 is correct, you have to follow the instructions exactly.
it took me two goes flashing the 5.1.1. prerooted .zip and then the FTF, the first time I got a boot loop.

[SURNIA-XT1521] How to Root After Marshmallow Update

So today I flashed the official Android 6 (Latest update) from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65428656&postcount=185
It booted successfully and was working fine.
I came back to fastboot mode and flashed TWRP recovery and then flashed SuperSu through TWRP. After that phone got stuck at "Warning Bootloader Unlocked" message and wasn't booting further.
So anybody else can confirm this? or is there any way to root it?
Download the SuperSU system less root zip and flash it do not use TWRP to root

Also after u flash the zip...when u reboot TWRP will ask u if u want to install SuperSU....select do not install
Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk
Thanks man, it might solve the issue.
The only way I could do that on official 6.0.1 on XT1524 was to install version 2.62 v3 through TWRP, then it was possible to flash stable 2.65. Root works

OnePlus X TWRP not booting

Hello everyone.
I've got a weird issue with my friend's OnePlus X. I've just unlocked the bootloader and wanted to install TWRP from the Guide on OnePlus forums.
Flashing the recovery works just fine, but when typing "fastboot boot recovery.img" it's giving me an error "FAILED dtb not found"
When trying to manually boot into recovery it's not doing anything, it's stuck on the OnePlus Logo Powered by android screen.
Anyone help please?
Do you have any rom?
---------- Post added at 07:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:45 PM ----------
Its easy if you dont see a recovery than you dont have one or it isnt flashed right go to the original Website of TWRP and download the latest version for your phone
Then try to flash it again with fastboot
OOS 2.XX you can use original twrp. If your on OOS 3.XX you need to flash updated twrp (blu spark V41,Sultans, Nachets) because bootloader changed.
If u are on oos, mention the exact version.

Follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/help/unable-to-flash-twrp-3-1-4-update-t3499990/page1 & flash the twrp recovery, there is a link in the 3rd post.
If all else fails alternatively you could root with king root and flash recovery with the app Rashr. Never failed me and after you get twrp working you can uninstall king and flash SuperSU.

Seeing people having a hard time with 3.1.4. The solution for all of them is to just flash 3.1.3. This is probably your best bet.

[Unofficial] TWRP 3.1.1-0 Moto G5S Plus [sanders]

TWRP 3.1.1-0 Moto G5S plus (sanders)
Latest TWRP changelog :
3.1.1-0 full changelog
Bugs :
Didn't found any for now, if you find something, you can report to me.
IMPORTANT NOTE :
At first boot twrp will ask for "Swipe to allow modifications for /system" and if you choose to allow it system partition will get modified. So if you choose to reboot back to OS without performing anything in twrp, the OS won't boot (as verity check is enabled in stock OS/kernel) . To avoid this you have to flash either SuperSU or flash any of the verity disabler zips there in xda
Force encryption is enabled by default in stock OS and twrp will successfully decrypt /data at first boot if all goes well
If in case decryption doesn't go fine, twrp will popup a dialog box asking for password and that means decryption went wrong and you would need to wipe data once via twrp wipe options and reboot back to twrp for functioning of /data
Installation Guide :
Make sure you have unlocked bootloader | Follow these instructions for unlocking it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/how-to-unlock-bootloader-moto-g5-plus-t3573879
Reboot to bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-****.img (if you want permanent flash) or fastboot boot twrp-****.img (if you want temporary
boot)
For rooting, you can use Magisk or SuperSU, both work fine
Download Link :
twrp-3.1.1-sanders
Ps :
I'm waiting for official kernel sources release for this device (sanders), before compiling custom roms, kernels etc... (I've tried with moto G5 plus sources but camera/flash didnt worked :/ )
Hope you like it!

After unrooting its better to restore stock boot img before flashing magisk
Out of curiosity...
Which is better, MAGISK OR SUPERSU.?
Is one thing superior or inferior to the other in any way..? I have been with Supersu all these years, will magisk be complicated for me to flash?

BRICKED!!!
Probably the first person to successfully brick the MOTO G5S.
I bet you guys wanna know how i did that. I messed up my phone after rooting with SU 2.79. I installed substratum and other customization apps which apparently did not support the stock ROM.
So, i decided to wipe the data and ended up wiping the ROM itself. I am able to get into TWRP.
My only way out is to wait untill @GeneticEnginer , comes up with a ROM to flash. Untill time to say goodbyeee! Seriously guys, i am sad.

No worries just take twrp backup of anyone who has properly booting device and just restore that backup it will help bring your device back to life or wait till stock rom or developers to build a rom

Actually i am learning development i learnt how to sync source codes and build a rom but sadly dont have enough internet speed to download that rom source code else i would have built a rom for our device. I will wait till i get enough money to get high speed internet then i will build something for sure
