DISCLAIMER:
These links are only a compilation of useful information regarding this TV Box.
I'm not to blame if you brick your device. I'm not responsible for any content in this post!

This is a fantastic box - great spec. Although referred to as Beelink M18 there is no sign on the device that it is made by Beelink.
Full of the usual junk & rubbish when booted, but very fast! Comes with latest firmware, rooted & Kodi 16.1.

Have you tried any custom rom?

Hi,
I have this box bought on GreaBest website. The first I received was defect and crashed every 5 mins of usage (no idea why). I keep it and for some euros more I got a second one that it is OK.
The powerful of this box is very impressive. Fast as a standard phone for a cheap price. The defect one is now working with the CPU locked to 1,3Ghz max but is slower.
Sometimes I get some crash but it's quite OK. I want to integrate this box in my car as car PC.
I replaced the standard TV launcher by nova by I have a main issue: The background tasks are always killed. I can't keep Waze or Google play music running in background. I try to understand why it doesn't behave as a standard tablet but I have not yet the answer. If somebody can hepl me!

I've another box with the same issue. I don't know why there is no multitasking.

Are you sure that apps are not running at all?
Are you using any widget on nova launcher to show running apps? It could be some kind of sync problem between the OS and perhaps a widget?

I don't know but when I'm using Waze or Google play music, if I use home key, the application is stopped (deseappear from the tray).
Another issue is the TV box virtual button style. I want to increase the DPI of the interface (to display on a 6,5 inch Car display in 800x480) and the standard android TV doesn't work on more than 190dpi. I would like to have a simple one.

Can you check if they are running? try this
For the DPI settings if you are rooted:
Code:
Method I – Do it from the phone on a Rooted ROM
1. Open Root Explorer.
2. Go to /system
3. Click on Mount RW (It should appear as Mount RO, that’s when it is correct!)
4. Look for build.prop. Long press on the file and press Open file in Editor
5. Scroll down to ro.sf.lcd_density=240
6. Change the value to anywhere between 180 and 240. The lower the value, the higher density your screen will have.
7. Click on the Menu button, and Save and Exit.
8. Reboot.
Method II – Before flashing a Custom ROM (Including AOSP ROMs for your phone)
1. Open the zip file containing the custom ROM.
2. Navigate to System Folder, then extract build.prop to your Desktop.
3. Edit the file using Notepad or EditPad or Notepad++
4. Click Ctrl + F(Search) and enter ‘ro.sf.lcd_density’ or navigate to this line.
5. Change the value to your desired (Higher Value = Bigger font and lower density, Lower Value = Higher Density and smaller font)
6. Save the build.prop file and replace back into the zip file in the same place.
7. Flash the Custom ROM as per directions.

I just checked, the application is not anymore in memory. Killed by the go to home function. How is it possible!!??
I checked with google launcher. Same issue
For the DPI, I use a DPI changer application from the market that works great. And I can confim you the softkey ribbon is not working properly with a DPI equal or more than 200. The ribbon goes to the left side and a part of the screen is not usable anymore. Reboot needed. 190dpi is OK.
I want to simplify it removinf some buttons, it should help.
But the home button killing applications is my real problem

I don't know... Have you installed any memory management app?

No it's from fresh installed. I have many Android phones at home and I never seen a home button that kill the current application. It's a nightmare. Is some other user of the M18 stock firmware can confirm?
I can't see how to stop that. if you swith the current application with the recent app or back button, it stay in background but not with home button. which stupid code they put in this function!!!!!

Try a custom debloated rom. Perhaps it might help

There is not plenty of rom today for the M18. Most a in non english forums.
For my usage I could be satisfied by a AOSP version

On the original post i've linked some to the 4pda ROMs and how to's

I've also searched a bit and found some opinions towards that behaviour.
I've received mine today and I've installed twrp and the finless 1.0 ROM and tried to execute some apps and hit home button. I still have apps running as expected...
One problem... I tried to install Waze and it says my device is not compatible...

Hi, it is nice to find a place where we can talk about this box...
I recieved my Beelink M18 a couple days ago and I've tested it and found some frame jumps in Youtube app playing 720p or 1080p videos... They also appear on Kodi at almost every videos I play. The videos don't play smoothly at all... I have HDMI self-adaption turned on and screen resolution at 1080p/60Hz. This kind of things also happens to any of you? Or it is just my unit?
Do you recomend any of the firmwares presented above in order to solve this problem I have? Have you tried any of them?
Thanks for your support!!!

I've just installed Finless 1.0 port.
But i didn't have time to test much. Tomorrow i'll give it a try

If it works, I will change rom soon

[1.117.0306] Latest Gear Fit Manager non-Samsung + Endomondo [4.x/5.x compatible]

Hello,
I've patched the current version of the Gear Fit Manager (v. 1.117.0306) built on 2015, March 06 and released at the end of March.
Links updated on 2015, April 19. Calls are fixed. I'm investigating on the issue with Lollipop 5.1 .
Test version for 5.1 : https://mega.co.nz/#!bEdXAQhb!i5hxkgyzEI43fBWa6ThfIiPUI2U2V2gdVeXY5AGWHg8 [Test 1 - try to use the 5.1 API]
https://mega.co.nz/#!GFcHUAhI!snmHX91S4PJwJZlPtCTMDUjOv36EKeaaKrS54UX2PtY [Test 2 - try to bypass one section]
This version is based on the last official Samsung version compatible with Lollipop. I patched the apk to be compatible with non Samsung phones. To install this version you need to install the following packages (I advice you to install in that order).
Gear Fit Manager and requirements
This firmware to update with Odin: R350XXU0BOA2
https://mega.co.nz/#!qUskxIDL!wexEZQTZ6t6wk0jO6dv1JDsdT6oCDYBxlegMb-MS6qc
This apk which is the main application: Gear Fit Manager
https://mega.co.nz/#!nI0UyJJD!zYFvTolgxAgL39ydX9ZgHCson5K2TJxMx9_-BKOa--A
This apk which contains required components: Gear Fit Installer (it's actually embedded into the second apk but it has to be installed manually)
https://mega.co.nz/#!mFknlTZB!iIB7DWPQC5ECiPlNcum0JXpcJRuE4XmI7v6Drchgk3Y
Your build.prop must NOT contain "samsung", just keep the default values for your device.
App Connect Applications :
Endomondo 11.0.3:
https://mega.co.nz/#!Kd82hawL!lGt2pJbBCfvO7bQ52fI4VgtOufMHLQVEozqWt7ziY84
To connect via Facebook you need to delete the app from your profile (https://www.facebook.com/help/170585223002660) if you already used it before, else you will have a login loop. The normal login via mail also works.
Endomondo is not able to use the Heart Rate monitor from the watch, this is normal (https://support.endomondo.com/hc/en-us/articles/201784416-SmartWatches#gear).
Calculator 2.0:
https://mega.co.nz/#!jFNDQDoJ!oIqRjQY_4oBrCMbygSB4HZfsAt7K1AWW2gg7KvTx1UA
I'll try to keep this topic up to date with the last version available on :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789503
I guarantee that the software is 100% safe. I will detail the reverse engineering done to make the new versions of the manager to work properly on non-Samsung devices.
Working :
Bluetooth connection
Clocks
Notifications
Media control
Custom clocks
Heart Rate
Reject Calls
SMS Quick Reply
Find my phone
Partially working :
App Connect (the manager cannot be signed properly so you will always get the "You should install Gear Fit Manager application first" message. This can be fixed but no so easily (the app have to be patched to not check the signature). If you want an app, post the apk here and I will patch this app.
Not working :
Anything related to SHealth / Weather as it requires Touchwiz (Endomondo is a good SHealth alternative)
Updates
19/04/2015 : Added Endomondo and Calculator apps.
19/04/2015 : Crash when receiving calls fixed.
Thanks for baking this. I can live without the weather, but I miss the caller ID notifications.
This isn't working on my 5.1 Nexus 6. I get a force close upon opening it. Firmware is at BOA2 and I installed the smaller file, then the first. Anything I can do to help troubleshoot this? It was a clean install on this phone.
It should work with 5.0.2 (tested with my OnePlus One with OxygenOS). I never tried with 5.1 yet. Could you send me a logcat please ? If it's a force close on launch I think it should be fixable.

Thank you very much. It works on my Nexus 4 with 5.0.1 stock.
I think my logcat is saying the same thing as the previous one.

Working on Xperia Z2 android 4.4.2 stock/rooted
This is my first attempt to make the gear fit work on a non-samsung device and it's working as informed. Was hoping to get endomondo working thru appconnect, so I'm also looking forward for that patch. Congratulations koalala on this accomplishment and keep up the good work!
This seems to be working on my Nexus 5. Thanks a bunch!

[Updated: JUN 15] Easier XMir Setup (Now with Libertine!)

EDIT: I bring you the new OFFICIAL way of installing X11 applications, I've been neglecting this thread way too much and need to give it some love.
The old instructions (OLD METHOD) are no longer needed as of April on the rc and rc-proposed channels, this should work on all channels however (tested up to latest devel-proposed image)
NOTE: You still need a writable image for the first parts of this, after you install the tools, it can go back to read-only.
1) Open Terminal
2) Install the following packages: libertine libertine-tools python3-libertine-chroot
3) Open the Ubuntu Store and install the scope: libertine-scope
4) Open the Libertine application that's now available in your launcher and follow instructions, it will set up a Ubuntu Vivid chroot in your home directory, install the components needed, and drop you at the package management screen. From here, you can update and add PPAs to the container via the Settings Icon -> Manage Container, Install packages via the plus icon, etc.
5) Favorite the Libertine XApps scope by swiping up on the home screen and hitting the star, then open the scope and you'll see any applications you installed there.
If you cannot install your container via the Libertine application (I know that it didn't have support for chroot until recently, not sure if that version has landed yet), you can install your container via the teminal, so open your terminal but DO NOT sudo su. All Libertine-container-manager commands MUST be done as phablet.
To create a container (this line will likely change when Xenial drops as Libertine will be switching to LXC on Xenial):
Code:
libertine-container-manager --create -i <container id> -n <friendly name (this shows up in the Libertine app)> -t chroot
Using this command, the system will build the new libertine container, wait until it's finished and then you can continue by using the installed Libertine application.
Onscreen Keyboard in Libertine Applications
THIS CAN FINALLY BE DONE! The only con to it, is that it is mostly unusable in applications that open dialog boxes along the bottom of the screen, the XMir window does not scroll up like native applications do to give a better viewing window. (I have been told that this will change in OTA-12 when the keyboard support drops for Libertine/Puritine apps)
To install on-screen keyboard:
Open Libertine and add ppa:brandontschaefer/maliit to your container. Then hit update in Manage Containers. Once done, install the following, maliit-inputcontext-gtk2, maliit-inputcontext-gtk3, maliit-framework. After that, setup is complete in your container, now we need to do some extra work outside the container to make it pass the GTK_IM_MODULE variable we need over to Libertine. To do this, add this line to your .bashrc or if you have a writable image, you can add this to the systemwide profile (not sure if this will be replaced on OTA though):
Code:
export GTK_IM_MODULE=maliitphablet
Restart the tablet OS, Open an application such as Libreoffice Writer and BEHOLD!
Notes
You can also manage your container via the terminal with libertine-container-manager. To get a root shell without installing mate terminal (You can't get a root shell via this method (installing a term), Proot acts like fakeroot all over your container's rootfs), you can use the following:
- l-c-m exec -c bash (This command does not mount any user directories (/home/phablet will not exist) and is best used for making changes to the container's rootfs)
or if you only need a user shell:
- DISPLAY= libertine-launch <containerid (default is vivid)> bash (This mounts user directories, but is no different than if you installed something like mate-terminal and ran it. The reason we are passing an empty DISPLAY variable is because libertine-launch will refuse to start if DISPLAY isn't set, even it if doesn't exist.)
- DPI Hacks: To change the DPI of applications in Libertine, you need a new way to make the .Xdefaults file as only the XDG User directories get mounted inside the libertine container, not your entire Home. To do this, install your favorite editor inside of the libertine container (I find nano to be the easiest for new users), and open Terminal, then follow these instructions:
1) Open your editor to ~/.local/share/libertine-container/user-data/[my container id, default = vivid]/.Xdefaults and fill it with the following:
Code:
Xft.dpi: 175
or what your preferred DPI is. On the Nexus 7 flo the comfortable DPI is 175 with an application font size of 14 (I use Liberation Sans which comes from Libreoffice).
- You can make your applications look great still, you don't have to be stuck with the default Raleigh GTK style. Download and install LXAppearance in your container and add ppa:noobslab/themes then start installing themes. Enjoy! The Ubuntu Touch Themes are wonderful and FlatPlat works well with the system UI as well.
Some cons to this:
- It requires at least 3GBs available in your internal storage (wherever your home folder resides) to store a full, non-touch Ubuntu Vivid container.
Pros:
- It survives OTAs, the only thing able to break this would be a change to XMir, PRoot, or Libertine. Which is landing in the images shortly by default so there's not much of a chance to break this.
- Nothing you do will break your UTouch system. Unlike the old method, this only installs the items needed to run the container, which are to become standard inside the images very soon.
OLD METHOD
--------------------
EDIT: I have not tested this in stable, rc, rc-proposed yet. Only the dev-proposed channel.
So there is some questioning I see going on about how to run things like Firefox efficiently and well. So I figured I'd write up a little something for it.
First you'll want to set your DPI in ~/.Xdefaults, as I have a Nexus 7, mine looks similar to this:
Xft.dpi: 240
Note that you may need to do some additional tweaking.
Now that you have Xdefaults made, install the ubuntu-pocket-desktop and matchbox-window-manager packages (along with the program you wish to use, for this tutorial, I'll use libreoffice).
Create a file in /bin called wm-wrapper.sh (or whatever you choose here, just remember the name), fill it with:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
matchbox-window-manager -use_titlebar no -use_dialog_mode const-horiz &
exec [email protected]
and save it, then chmod a+x it.
EDIT: For this next part, I recommend copying the .desktop to ~/.local/share/applications to avoid them being overwritten on package updates.
Now, navigate to /usr/share/applications/ and open the .desktop file for the application you are wanting to run. Add the following lines under [Desktop]:
Code:
X-Ubuntu-Touch=true
X-Ubuntu-XMir-Enable=true
Change the Exec line so that your wrapper (in my case wm-wrapper.sh) is in front of the executable, such that the line becomes (or similar):
Code:
Exec=/bin/wm-wrapper.sh libreoffice %U
Save it, then search for your application in the Unity Scopes. Open it up and you should see your application running as an XMir app easy. For future applications, you will simply need to do the changes to it's .desktop file.
EDIT: A helpful redditor gave me this tip to enable sending touch events over to Xmir. Setting the GTK_TEST_TOUCHSCREEN environment variable to 1 will apparently remove hover events and the like (events that are not normally sent with a touch screen, but with a mouse). I have not had time to take a look at this yet however so YMMV.
Thanks man, gonna try this on my n4 later today. ?

No problem, Like I said, not sure if it works on other channels, but it works great on the dev-proposed channel. You will also want to close applications using their menu items as closing the Xmir root window will cause the application to terminate without asking to save anything. Libreoffice can get around this via Document Recovery though.
I had been working on this for a good solid week testing applications and different ways to get X11 applications working so I could make it a full workstation, so I figured why not post my findings since the Ubuntu forum doesn't seem to get much love.
Thanks for the matchbox tip! It works quite nicely, especially, it brings a nice onscreen keyboard with it. I use the following setup now:
~/.local/share/applications/gedit-mb.desktop
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=GEdit in Matchbox
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Icon=/usr/share/gedit/logo/gedit-logo.png
X-Ubuntu-Touch=true
#X-Ubuntu-XMir-Enable=true
Exec=/home/phablet/bin/matchbox-wrapper.sh gedit
~/bin/matchbox-wrapper.sh
Code:
#!/bin/bash
export DISPLAY=:1
Xmir $DISPLAY &
sleep 1
# xlogo
# xeyes
# x11vnc -forever -nopw -quiet -display $DISPLAY &
matchbox-window-manager &
sleep 1
matchbox-keyboard &
[email protected]
~/.matchbox/kbdconfig
Code:
<ctrl><alt>p=prev
<ctrl><alt>n=next
<ctrl><alt>d=!matchbox-desktop
<ctrl><alt>x=!xterm
<ctrl><alt>f=!firefox
Together with the Xft.dpi setting (I use 220) this gives me a quite usable editor. If you have any other tips ShadowEO, I'd love to hear them!
One thing I'd like to figure out is how to modify the DPI for the Mir GDK Backend. Currently GTK3 applications started with the backend are way to small.

Sorry, for some reason I wasn't subscribed to this post (weird.)
Anyway the specific application I was looking at was gedit, when started with the native GDK Mir backend, it is almost unusable with touch as the elements are so small. GDK_SCALE doesn't work and neither does any of the GTK dconf settings for scaling.
Also, I have switched to using rc-proposed, so any more changes I do will likely be able to be installed without worrying about the snapshot channel.
Also messing with some touch-screen specific .gtk2.0-rc entries seem to help, but since I reformatted, I don't quite have those offhand at the moment. I'll have to look them up again.
Hi!
Thanks a lot for all these useful explanations! Finally I was able to run Firefox on my bq E4.5 (rc-proposed)! But I have a few questions:
1) I don't have any on-screen keyboard
2) it works like with a mouse (no touch scrolling for instance)
Is there something I can do about that?

You could try the touchegg package for multi touch gestures, I haven't gotten around to testing it yet. As for keyboard, you can use onboard for most applications or if the application is a QT application, it will pop up the system keyboard (behavior was exhibited by calibre)

Thanks a lot for your answer. Sorry I don't know much yet about all this so my questions might be silly!
1) I installed touchegg but I don't know how to make it work
2) I have no keyboard in any app I installed (caja, gedit, firefox, ...)
Another question: I have a bq E4.5 and although I have 3.5G of free space on my internal memory the space available for apt-get-ed apps is much smaller (I have 50M left after installing just those few apps above). So no way to try libreoffice or other heavier app. Do you know if there is a solution for that?
Thank you very much!

If you use the matchbox setup I described above then you should have a keyboard.

This website describes a tweak to put the apt cache on an external SD card. It's in German, but the command lines should be clear enough. Let us know how it goes.
https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Ubuntu_Touch/Terminal/#Freien-Speicher-beobachten
You would need to run touchegg in the wrapper. Sadly wth keyboard, the only applications that will get the system keyboard are QT based applications. GTK+ and other applications will require onboard to be installed. I messed around with trying to install maliit-context-gtk2 to get the system keyboard to show in all apps, but that broke the keyboard completely.
Remember XMir is better used with a physical keyboard since it doesn't trigger the Ubuntu keyboard for everything.
You can also make the system img bigger if using MultiROM: you simply run e2fsck -fp /path/to/Ubuntu.IMG and resize2fs <target size> /path/to/Ubuntu.IMG.

I've played around with this a bit, but I can't get touchegg to work. I start an xmir application, then log in via ssh from my desktop. After setting the DISPLAY variable, I can start more X applications ok. After starting touchegg I see an output like this:
Code:
Reading config from "/home/phablet/.config/touchegg/touchegg.conf"
Try to make a multitouch gesture. If everything goes well the information about the gesture must appear
[+] Avaliable gesture:

[+] Avaliable gesture:
Name -> Drag
[+] Avaliable gesture:
Name -> Pinch
[+] Avaliable gesture:
Name -> Rotate
[+] Avaliable gesture:

I assume that I am supposed to see some more output when a touch gesture is recognised by touchegg, but nothing ever shows up.
I can see touch events with either xinput or evtest

Some websites point to synclient for the configuration of touchegg, but that doesn't seem to work in Xmir:
Code:

Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?
Does anyone else have more luck with touchegg?
While researching it, I stumbled over references to xSwipe, but I haven't looked into that any further.

Just to reiterate, the matchbox-keyboard works fine for me!
Oh, and one thing I wanted to share: The firefox extension Grab and Drag allows a more natural touch screen style drag-to-scroll.
I completely forgot the matchbox keyboard while writing that reply, I'm not sure what's going on with touchegg as I haven't had a chance to play with it on Ubuntu touch. It could be that XMir isn't actually passing that much information about touch events.
matchbox-window-manager struggle
I am on the new Aquarius m10 Ubuntu tablet.
Tried to run tome applications and realized the X11 and Mir problem.
Came across your solution! Thank you for sharring!
Well, I dont seem to be able to install matchbox-window-manager
It shows a lot of missing dependencies and I am not abble to install them manually either..
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
matchbox-window-manager : Depends: libmatchbox1 (>= 1.7-1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libstartup-notification0 (>= 0.2) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxsettings-client0 but it is not going to be installed
Any light?? Thank you very much

Mhm, not sure. You do have set it to read-write and you did an apt update, right?

Thanks for sharing this info! I also own the M10 ubuntu tablet and try to run some X11 apps.
I am able to apt-get matchbox-window-manager. But it won't start and says it can't find the display.
Running either:
Code:
matchbox-window-manager
matchbox-window-manager -d :0
as a normal user or root always returns: "can't open display! check your DISPLAY variable.".
ubuntu-pocket-desktop is up to date and I also set the DPI in ~/.Xdefaults.
What could be the reason it can't find the display? What could I try?

Follow the instructions in the original post or in my post #4.
Bumping this thread as I've edited the OP with the official instructions for running Legacy X Applications on Ubuntu Touch. As well as information about getting the system maliit-based OSK showing in X Applications (It's not that great though, you still may have better luck with matchbox-keyboard/on-board, but not sure how you'd even start those in Libertine.)

Enable Bluetooth on Android VM

Hi everybody,
I have installed Android-x86 on a Virtual Box VM. I'm trying now to activate bluetooth capability on it.
I plugged-in my usb bluetooth dongle, I mounted it in my VM. Everything is ok so far.
On Android side, I can detect my dongle through the hciconfig and scan with it with hcitool.
The problem appears when I try to enable it in the graphic interface. It always shows me Bluetooth as off.
When I try to move the button on the right to activate it - nothing happens... It completely ignores my attitude.
It is also not possible to enable it through the applications: when an app asks me for an authorization to allow bluetooth, I authorize it to do so but it doesn't succeed.
The error I observe through the adb logs is as follows:
723338-01-21 11:02:23.948 1378 2327 D BluetoothManagerService: enable(com.android.systemui): mBluetooth =null mBinding = false mState = OFF
723474-01-21 11:02:23.948 1378 2327 D BluetoothManagerService: enable returning
723549-01-21 11:02:23.949 1378 1415 D BluetoothManagerService: MESSAGE_ENABLE(0): mBluetooth = null
723644:01-21 11:02:23.949 1378 1415 E BluetoothManagerService: Fail to bind to: Intent { act=android.bluetooth.IBluetooth }
But it doesn't help me much...
Please, if you have any idea how to solve this issue or progress in locating the problem, it would be great.
Thanks in advance for your time!

Everything is working. VoLTE isn't supported yet for this device on none of the ROMs because of source changes introduced in Pie that broke it. Some devs are working on it, while I can't, just because of the fact that my carrier hasn't implemented it yet.

I'm glad you like this ROM, although you might want to thank @edi194 a bit more about this since he's the owner of the project lol. I'm just a maintainer.
About rooting, that's a bug in Magisk. Simply unpack the Magisk zip and manually install magisk.apk from the common folder.

Hi, after following the standard procedure to install this rom (wipe cache, system, dalvik, data), I found that the initial setup is broken if no gapps are installed, the Pixel setup crashes as soon as I hit Continue, I re-downloaded the rome to check if maybe my download was corrupt, had no luck, also checked with md5sum and the file was fine
Re-installing the rom and installing gapps before the first boot allows me to complete the initial setup
---------- Post added at 03:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:00 PM ----------
Hi, I have encountered another *minor* bug, enabling triple tap zoom on accessibility settings disables any kind of input on the device, the power button still works, although the only thing that can be done is forcing the device to restart long-pressing the power button
I can confirm the device does not completely hangs, as animations going on in the screen are still displaying, and plugging an external mouse thru OTG moves the cursor (but clicking and pressing keys don't do anything)
steps to reproduce:
-Install rom with nano gapps package (from OpenGapps)
-finish initial setup
-enable triple tap zoom
-enjoy (??)
EDIT: I should clarify that only *enabling* triple tap zoom hangs the phone, after forcing the device to reboot, it works normally (and even triple tap zoom works)
---------- Post added at 04:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:17 PM ----------
2ND UPDATE:
Well, seems like everything hangs, the rom is actually pretty cool and "smooth", but I've reinstalled it 3 times, only on the last try I was able to finish the initial setup, then it was all downhill, launching certain settings for the first time hang the phone for about 1 minute (example: opening mobile data settings, app permissions), trying to uninstall an app didn't work, and trying to force the uninstall thru adb froze the phone completely, although after a (forced) reboot, uninstalling apps seems to work correctly, it seems that doing *anything* for the first time hangs the phone, after trying to do something for the first time and rebooting (or letting the phone un-freeze itself, although that could take some serious time)
I'm (almost) pretty sure that this is not a problem with just my device/phone, as everything worked perfectly on past roms.
However, I'll continue to use this rom to see if it stops hanging, after the last forced reboot (after trying to uninstall an app), everything seems to be working perfectly

That's something really strange, because rom doesn't have any "SetupWizard" or "Initial setup" included, if gapps not installed then you just boot up to home screen

It's awesome that my device can now run Android 9!
What works
Camera, including video recording
Phone calls
Mobile data (LTE), after adding my carrier's APN
SafetyNet passes out of the box
Bugs/issues I've faced (device-specific)
Updater crashes with
Code:

at com.updates.fragments.OTAFragment$2.onResponse(OTAFragment.java:105)
at retrofit2.ExecutorCallAdapterFactory$ExecutorCallbackCall$1$1.run(ExecutorCallAdapterFactory.java:71)
Google's Sounds app crashes so I can't change ringtone or message tone (If you install Gapps don't install this!). It seems to be a graphics issue:

Sometimes my screen turns black (I'll update this when I'm able to reproduce it again when logging)
More bugs and feature requests (ROM-specific)
Icons on the notification shade are gray, they have no colors
There's no option to make the phone rotate too when it's upside down (this is included in LineageOS, not sure if the Pie one includes it)
There are no shortcuts in the lock screen to access Phone and Camera (this could be a device or Gapps bug)
Volume buttons adjust media volume all the time (Pie issue, an option to change this would be nice)
Updated ROM DL Link
Well I tried to post the updated ROM link since the first one is no longer active, but I'm a FNG, so...
Also, flashed most recent version along with 9.0 micro GAPPS. Phone kept restarting getting a little further each time. Now she's stuck on loading.
And now we're bootlooping again. Did the same with Pixel Experience 9.0. Seems I can only get Oreo to run.

Apparently, the developer hasn't posted in a while
Still, can't you make calls without VoLTE (either using regular calls or your carrier's app)?

Hi! Obs.: I'm new in the forum, só, if i err something obvious, please, say it ,-,...
I've tested the ROM published and i loved how it's fast in boot. The problem related with boot and wifi looks not appearing more. This ROM was some personals and best performance. The camera isn't work. I rebooted 3 times and nothing. That's the unique error that i found.
I've switched so many ROM's, searching to find a ROM like these features.
The ROM is so much fluid and faster.
Good work!

Hi! I'm glad you liked the ROM, and yeah, the camera issues are really frequent on this device. I can't promise anything but I'll be taking a look at what's wrong and try to fix it by the late night of today (UTC -03:00).
For me, it worked, then it wasn't working, rebooted, working again.

Tutorial: Gear S for Tab Active 2

Work in progress to make it work on a samsung tablet running android 7.1.1
Can get the watch to be seen by gear manager but it fails during set up.
This is a list of trial and errors at the moment - please add any ideas you have.
Install magisk /root
Install Magiskhide props config
Install terminal emulator
install busybox via magisk downloads
terminal emulator -> props
Add new custom value
ro.product.model
Was SM-T395
Set to GT-N7105 (note 2)
1. default (current)
y
Boots OK
Safetynet pass
download wear
download amaze file manager
navigate to /data/data/com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager/files/rules.xml
edit to allow tablets=true
set it read only(!)
restart
Safetynet pass
run gear wearables & connect
--------------Beyond this it's a bit of a guess. Trying gearmanagerstub.apk but no luck yet.
--------------Currently fails after 5-10 seconds of 'connecting to gear', which displays on phone and watch.
Sees watch and connects also shows connecting on the watch but then the app bombs back to a list of devices. So it passes the initial device checks at least, but gear2splugin is failing somehow
Maybe I need gearmanagerstub Will try downloading Note 8 7.1.1 firmware see if there is a gearmanagerstub. Yes it has one.
& use magisk app systemiser module....
terminal -> systemize
option 3
enter path of gearmanagerstub.apk e.g. /sdcard/GearManagerStub.apk (where I put mine)
where to install? 1. /system/app
Nothing shows in /system/app... watchmanager bombs again
try restart
Interesting it keep updating rules.xml now.... it is back to supports tablet=false. Both after restart, and then after starting watchmanager. (I edited it after boot then checked again)
fix is set rules.xml to read only.
So perhaps an older version of gearmanagerstub would do the trick.. (I'm using the oldest note 8 one)
run terminal ->systemize
revert app - select 1- (null??)
install note 3 5.0 gearmanagerstub.apk same process
After another failure to connect it got further to ELUA screen before bombing.
I see it thinks my watch is installed now...
It connects for maybe 10 seconds hits "back up and restore" and immediately bombs. The app acts like it is working but the gear says it's not "failed to connect"
Suddenly pops up "error your gear is disconnected" on the restore page.
Now it's back to failing after 5 seconds / 10 spins.
tried copying gearmanagerstub to /system/app and reinstalling all, no difference
This did not trigger safetynet.
Try setting to SM-950F... no change.
Try setting fingerprint to note 8 (SM-950F) (8.0 although I am running 7.1.1)
try ro.build.characteristics=phone,emulator (currently tablet,emulator)
This gives a different list of devices (watches not just earphones) when I reinstalled gear manager.
Still bombs, also the icon is still a tablet when connecting, not a phone.
If anyone has figured this out already I'm all ears
could try non samsung next

Update- bluetooth crash in logcat
Looking at logcat and the apks it appears that watchmanager only checks to see if the watch is 'non samsung'. How it decides that an GT-N7105 magically makes it a samsung product but a T395 is not, I can't figure it out.
Interestingly modifying rules.xml and simply adding supportsnonsamsung = true seems to work.
In any case logcat shows a bluetooth error/crash. Why it crashes I don't know.
It looks like the trigger is
11-14 13:35:56.237 4853 4853 E SACalendarProvider::Service: CALENDAR_HOSTMANAGER_CONNECT
Shortly after this a lot of data seems to be sent over bluetooth. A few seconds later the data stops, and 200ms later an error:
11-14 13:35:59.786 3525 3609 E bt_hci : command_timed_out [BT_CORE] hci layer timeout waiting for response to a command. opcode: 0xffff
Nothing interesting happens in logcat in the 2 seconds of data transfer.
A while later the app detects that the watch is disconnected
and eventually bombs. A few seconds after that the watch reports setup fail.

I am not sure what causes this error.
I tried many versions of gear2plugin which contains the apks such as SAproviders / SAcalendarprovider code..
It seems that the bluetooth process under hostmanager-connectionmanager-databuilder works for "single chunk" but with fragmented data it receives 12 chunks of 61k (or so) before dying.
any ideas?
Just FYI
The same T395 tab-phone works pairing a Gear S3 which uses a different plugin 'gearoplugin', with rules.xml edited to say support tablet = true and set to read only. No other tricks are needed I think as supportnonsamsung is already true, all connected to the internet etc. Obviously you need root to edit rules.xml.
= Gear S plugin V2.2.03.19032541N
= Galaxy Wearable V2.2.27.19083061
The gear s uses gear2smodule. I tried the latest version I could find 2118120361, which didn't work.
aka GearModule Version 2.2.02.18120361
Does anyone have a later version?
