Probability of custom roms for Le Max 2 like CM13 (and later CM14) and custom kernels - LeEco Le Max 2 Questions & Answers

Hi togehter,
iam thinking about getting a Le Max 2 (4GB/32GB). The only thing which is holding me off is the current lack of custom roms.
My question: How probable will it be that custom roms like CM13 (and later CM14) and custom kernels will be developed for this telephone?
Are there things which hold people off from developing for this phone? (like for example the missing kernel and driver sources for MediaTek devices).
Thanks a lot for helping me with my decission.

I'm not a developer nor anything like that, but I really don't see why there would be much of a problem with that. I think the only problem is that the phone is just rare by now and there's no developer's having time, tools or motivation to do that.
Give the development teams some while and I think there'll be CM as a first Custom Rom. Just a guess, I don't know s#!t
Currently, I am on the Stock ROM Eui 5.8 - 13s (I think?) and the shop I bought it from already installed Google Play Services. I really like the rosegold color more in real life than in the photos. I was really surprised by it's good look when I opened the package.
All in all if you have any questions I could answer about the phone, just write me. I'm not that active in the forum but I am surely for the next 7 days or so.
Good to know: On stock Rom it seems the On-The-Go USB isn't really working at all, neither the bluetooth connection (gamepad, speakers) for me. I'll update the phone to latest 14s Rom just now and try again.

The Le Max 2 is not a Mediatek Device so I would expect that Qualcom will (or allow)release of sources for custom devs

Hi together,
thanks for your feedback!
Iam not sure if its enough that Qualcom releases theire sources. The problem is also that the drivers for the display or the camera (and so on) are for some smartphones not open source.
I don't know how LeTV is handling this.
But thanks again for your feedback.
Best regards

Hi guys,
If a phone has what you can consider as "standard components", then the problem is not the ROM itself, but the problem is the so-called "device tree".
If the manufacturer releases enough info on that, a device tree can be made and then used to port more or less each existing ROM.
If it uses standard components, chances are that everything and every feature will work as it should.
I don't know nothing about the LeEco policy about this. So let's hope they will release it. But if TWRP already exists, it's an encouraging sign...

@NexusPenguin thank you verys much, that post was very insightful

@katze94 I bought the 32/4gb. So glad tbe the device is more good looking than in pictures. Can you please tell how you manage the screen size and is there a "one-hand" mode or feature?
Best regards

Some android skins have one hand mode to resize the screen so you can get to upper part of screen with one hand. I now have a oneplus one and I'm not sure if I can manage this size.

I have no experience myself, but recent post suggested you need to use QQ app (Chinese messaging app).

Yes, we need the QQ app to join the group.
Is someone able to do? I can't break the language barrier.

I did Download and signed in. Currently I am awaiting the acceptance of the group Administrator. Then I will Download the rom and Upload it for you. I wont test it in the first place, because I am a little bit careful with unknown roms.
Where can I Upload the file for you? I have a uploaded Account and I really like zippyshare. Any better, free and good dl-speed Alternatives?

Does Leeco Le Max 2 have USB 3.1 Type C port or USB 2.0 like Oneplus 3, because OP3 have USB 2.0 is confirmed but no info on Le Max 2 is available.

I use an OTG-adapter with an USB 3.0 stick and I get speeds up to 110 MB/s, so I think it can't be USB 2.0 which doesn't reach such speeds...

Now that is all the more reason to go for Leeco Le Max 2 instead of OP3.

Looking good
I'm very pleased to see it up and running. Good Work bill.
Btw, what gapps do we flash?
I did the one from goo.im for cm10.1 and voice search wont work
For those curious, here is my basic overview thus far;
I've been running it for just over an hour roughly and its fairly bug free (minus the wifi and bt)
Camera works great, minus the preview, which i still never figured out why it wouldn't work, you will just see a white screen, guesstimate where you are pointing. =P
Minor transition stutters, nothing major, just slightly more noticeable then on the 4.1.2 rom (give it time im sure it will improve)
I love the 4.2 feel, and all of the 4.2 features are working smoothly.
Overall, this a damn good place to start, You can tell when you flash this rom, bill put a lot of time and work into this, considering this is the first release, and it is so bug free.
Personally, i will be returning to PAC, as it is my daily driver, but im looking forward to what cm10.1 is bound to bring to our phone.
Thanks again Bill

Voice Search is a bug I still need to work on. I was really working hard on the storage issue...in the end, it was an edit that came from the Capitivate Glide that fixed it...LOL
Of course, either by some edit that CM added in or one of my edits, I broke wifi (it was working in earlier builds. I'm trying to revert some of the edits to try to get it working again).
This is probably the 100th build of CM10.1 that I have done, so yes, there has been a LOT of time put into it. BT will be a bit of a pest to fix, but I am sure I can get it done. I already know the edit for the Camera preview, but I can't get it to build when I institute the edit...which is really odd. I'm still working on it.

Alright, yeah, i wasn't sure if it was just the gapps, or if it was a problem you knew about. Im glad you got the storage thing worked out, haha, i was getting desperate, found that rom i linked to (cm10 thread) that used 4.1.2 partitioning for 4.2
See, thats a problem i have when i was trying to work on the apks for the rom i put on hold. Its working just fine in the first one, but when i fix another part thats completely unrelated, it breaks the first. LOL. I feel like Wile E. Coyote trying to catch the roadrunner at times.
Holy Mother of ****. lmfao. In bow before you and your dedication. I feel if i was in your shoes i probably would have thrown my machine out of frustration.
As far as the camera preview goes, are you just recompiling the app with the edit, or are you building it from source and then adding the edit every time?

The partition scheme is actually a step back to the old /mnt/emmc and /mnt/sdcard from ICS days . I found that it worked well on a few devices, but was having issues with emmc not showing up, as improper permissions were being indicated. I finally searched EVERY Tegra 2 device that had a 4.2 build to see what I could get working. The Captivate Glide had one that I hadn't tried, so what the hell, I figured. When it booted and I saw everything working, I almost cried
Yeah...I know what you mean about the fix one break another. Only issue is that since I was only checking storage, I don't know which edit broke wifi...lol. Could even be something that CM added in when they initiated wifi tether support...lol
Believe me...there were times when I looked at the Photon and considered it's aerodynamic properties and whether it could fly and how far...lol
I've tried both. Each way, I get the strange lot of errors...lol

I forgot to put that wasn't fully working in the OP.
I'm gonna guess and say any issue with 4.2 gapps is due to this (via RootzWiki):
Does not include non-NEON libraries, as there have not been any non-NEON devices (Tegra and Tegra 2 devices such as the Motorola XOOM) which have received 4.2, and the 4.1 libraries are not compatible with 4.2.

Well, I just want to make sure everything works. It was a big learning experieence about the regional coding files and the SEA policies which I finally figured out.
So if you can test apps in the play store, over all functionality type thing. Looking for things like "Not supported in your region" errors although I doubt it (USA Regions only, other regions I cannot support).
IM sure its good as I ran with it for two days and liked it.

Sadly that is a typical issue with play services.
They try to push that at the same time the push the apps and it can cause a mess.
Google needs to get it together... But then again, I dont think they made Android for the Crack Flashing crew.
When I was playing with this I think it felt a little smoother than the MK1 base.
Does anyone have any input on that?
And what do you think of the Autobrightness control?
Why did you convert a stock Asian rom to be compatible with US/EU version of P600?
Haven't they the same hardware or product code (SM-P600)?
I ask you this since I ordered a note 2014 from Singapore and I would flash an European stock rom with my country's csc.
Do you think it's not possible?

One more thing to add:
It seems there is a significant lag for the screen to turn on after the tablet was off for more than a few minutes.
Also tested the magnetic cover on both Poetic cases I own. The tablet display turns on and off when cover is opened and closed.

For whatever reasons Samsung seems to have locked them like they did with the phones and sims. I beleive, but cannot prove for fact, that they are using the same "technology" from the Note 3. You can read more about it here: Samsung’s Regional SIM-Lock: The Stupidest Thing Ever?
Now I dont know for fact, so take it with a grain of salt, but look at the first digit of the firmware and that is the region. Take look here on THIS PAGE for the region and the firmware versions. You will see a pattern.
It seems, Arabian devices all start with X, European based devices start with U, US based devices start with U as well. All Asian devices start with Z. But what throws me off is not all countries seem to be in the region you would expect. So I really am not sure. I just now that some people cant use my ROM very well and others can.
I know that i could not get the ZT base to work until I swapped out portions of the RAM disk and some really strange files in the /system partition which I beleive are tied to the ram disk files which then seem to tie to the region. THIS IS ALL SPECULATION on my behalf. I wont know unless I have a device from Asia to test or someone that knows more about Samsung product codes can elaborate.
Now, I cant honestly tell you that they wont be able to cross but I can tell you I had to tear out some files from the UE based ROM (United States) and replace those files in the ZT based ROM (Tiawan).
Like I said, take it with a grain of salt.
When you get your device send me a PM so I can have you look at things and quantify my thoughts. All my theory are based on my physical US Based Device and the troubles I had getting the Asian based ROM to flash.

Although I cannot read your hand writing I did seem like a positive tone? lol
The lag on wake is by design. I know, strange... But thats how any Exnyos process based device is.
Refernce any article in this quick Google Search and you will see it covers almost every Exnyos device Samsung makes. Not just the Note 10.1.
We will need to enlist a real good kernel developer to remove that lag. You can read more about it in my CleanROM thread as we were just discussing it there...
But in a nut shell, the tablet goes into deep sleep and it has to be woken up. This is done to conserve battery.
I also tested the wake lag against stock MK1 base and its actually improved. At least form my testing anyways. Take it with a grain of salt as I am an old man and cant count very well
Hey this is exactly what i was looking for.
My brother and I bought our dad this tablet from the US and the first thing I did was root it as usual with all the other android devices in our house haha.. but as usual after rooting and installing a custom recovery you cannot do OTA's.
I would like to know will you be keeping this stock and maintaining this as samsung pushes updates. the first thing my dad did, was check if he could do auto updates and it said no tablet is modified. So I told him I would have to do it manually.
Many thanks in advance.
Also is this ML1 the latest release by Samsung?

The feedback of your ML1 stock ROM was positive. All apps I used simply worked. There was nothing unusual about any of the apps, including no force closes.
Touchwiz launcher also seemed quicker when scrolling through the home pages and application pages. I plan to do a Titanium backup and make this my daily ROM for a few days (or longer).
As for the lag when turning on the screen, I was only making an observation. It was neither a positive or negative comment about the ROM. I prefer the tablet to go into deep sleep mode as fast as possible to conserve battery life. So an extra half second or so for the display screen to turn on is an easy tradeoff.

I will more than likely be doing stock roots for any update I can for the duration of tablet owner ship.
As the very first line of the opening post stated; this is the latest build I can find anywhere on the internet.
If anyone ever finds anything newer than what I have they normally will post in one of my threads or will send me a PM. Plus I scour certain firmware sites daily.

Good good!
IM going to chop this up into CleanROM within the next couple days.
I also see a few performance gains as far as the launcher, etc.
Hey scott. I havent flashed your rom yet but when I flashed it as a firmware I seem to have some wifi dropping issues. Did you notice this or did some of your hacks change the wifi?

Nah, I see some changes in the system dealing specificallyh with WiFi and Bluetooth but I have not had an issue with WiFi (nor do I 100% understand teh changes between MK1 and ML1).
However, the bootlaoder may have also attributed to this. I made this rom so it would run with the MK1 US Bootloader.
I would Odin MK1 then you should be able to flash this. But as far as WiFi drops for me personally, nah. Seems good.
Anyone else see any WiFi issues?

IMPORTANT: Evo 3D is our (Howpathetic's, Želvica's and Snoob25's) only phone, so obviously we don't want to brick it. Maybe we have found a tester, that can risk it since Evo 3D is his secondary phone. EVERYONE who is willing to help us with his device can PM us. If we can't find anyone we could ask users if they want to donate for a test device (used Evo 3Ds are around 30-40€ here)

a ported rom for personal use when we'll reach at least bootanimation we'll think about a proper rom, a direct port from villec2 or a port from sensation (with proper permissions)
Yep, can be booted again
Just a thumbs up for not letting go of this device as HTC did. That's the spirit of xda I adore. Also if you achieve to make a ROM with 3D support I will scrap or postpone my plans to get a new device this/next year since the basic reason I want to scrap this device is that I have to either suffer from the slowness of those butchered stock versions of ICS+3.6/4 Sense and keep 3D functions or sacrifice 3D for a fast and super responsive 4.1.x+.
Devs here did an amazing job (and almost did the impossible) to improve as much as they could those clunky 3.6/4 Sense + ICS versions out there but they were really trying to do the impossible since all those versions pretty like sucked out of the box, obviously because they were results of either HTC not caring about that device they were making the ROM for (the case of all Sense 3.6 devices), or they had no idea what they were doing and they were feeling like being experimental (all devices with Sense 4 at launch), resulting into terribly optimized ROMS for devices that can do alot better than that. It's not like ICS was a real step forward in performance compared to GB so let alone an ICS rom built at that bad period from HTC (I can't say that though for JB+ based versions of Sense though, these are good and feel as they should).
If you want any testing, I'm here to help without a second thought.
I have two 3d's. One I use daily at work for music and another sits in a drawer at home. "might" be thinking about donating to a dev... They are both Sprint branded devices meaning CDMA... I can also do some testing but this is kernel for gsm only?
waaooo~ It is amazing news!! Maybe after my exam this month, I probably have time to test that.
GOOD WORK!!

Yo, I've been waiting to jump into Sense porting for a device like this. It would be awesome if you were willing to let your spare one go, as I am super excited about getting a Sense 5 rom booting for the Evo 3D. I'd be really happy to do testing for these guys working on this kernel. I've done prior work in Sense porting for the Nexus One and the Incredible 2.
Thanks

Alright,, I believe there is a problem with the screen on it or the power button though. When trying to wake it from sleep only the navigation buttons will light up and a reboot is necessary. But it should be a great testing device.

For now testing is limited, we determined that kernel doesn't brick anything, now it's all a matter of coding! About that spare evo, that could be helpful, I'd say ask howpathetic through pm if he needs it, and specify that it is a shooter

good luck with the hard work
Did you make sure to build the boot.img with the proper ramdisk offset? Kernel's default ramdisk offset is 16MB, but the 3.4 kernel is big, so the ramdisk load offset needs to be set to 20MB (0x01400000). If you don't do this then the kernel will keep bootlooping. USB parameters in the ramdisk also need to be updated in order to use ADB for when you're debugging later on.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
EDIT: Wait, is the goal to get a 3.4 kernel working, or a Sense 4+ ROM booting? If you're just trying to get Sense 4+ booting then getting a 3.4 kernel working isn't necessary. All of the Qualcomm drivers that make 3.4 special can be backported to 3.0, which can be used to boot Sense 4+.

Hello Snoob
Well after I have seen the title of this Post i was like oh yeeees ;D
If more testers are needed I have a spare HTC EVO 3D GSM version (actually my first one that I bought myself when it was released)
I always loved it cause it was heavy, well builded and I felt like having something premium in hand (samsung felt always cheap to me)
Well after all the years I had to change the digitizer but unfortunate it was a chinese copy and the undersite of it peel of and now i have like a nasty circle on the lcd (will fix it cause my friend told me to remove the digitizer and a a scrren portector on the lcd and put the digiter bad so that nasty circle will go away) and the front aluminium bezel felt of (old glue ofc)
So after all that and I hade not the time to fix it I bought another EVO 3D because I like it that much.
But now I have a HTC Sensation ¸that I got as a gift from a friend in top shape and my EVOs are sleeping
Yeah I know long story but the point is that the first one even with all the problems works 100% so I would like to test for yaa kernel and even ROMs cause I always wanted to see sense 5 on EVO 3D happen but dont have the skill my own.
So my testing device is; HTC EVO 3D GSM version (no carrier version)
PM me please If you decide that you need another tester
And Big Kudos To You Guys For Still Suporting The EVO 3D
Just a little note .. I think most of us want to see a Sense 5 in our EVO3D... (and not the 4+, which is very similar to sense 4.1, at least graphically). So if you have the same possibility to make a sense 4+ or a sense 5, maybe you could do a survey.. so if the people say sense 5 rom (or sense 4+) you can focus your energies on a single project
Sorry for bad english and thanks for everything!!!:fingers-crossed:

[Q] [DISCUSSION| ALMOST NO CUSTOM ROMS & KERNELS FOR DUAL SIM Devices

hey folks, just want to discuss with as many as possible what they think about the fact that almost no custom roms for dual sim devices are available.
i personally don't think that i shall trade the great choice of mods, roms and kernels for the "oneplus 2" i was totally convinced to get one as soon as my invites will drop in,
the dual sim feature was even one of the main things i was looking forward to since i currently have to manage 6 devices with sim cards from around the world!
but just recently the worrying fact that there are almost no or very few mods, custom roms and kernels, specifically for dual sim devices crossed my mind.
i mean roms which let you manage the dual sim capability the same way like the stock rom. of course one can use only one sim slot but then what sense does it
make to have a dual sim device when you can use only one sim instead of both and the way they are supposed to. one example would be to have one sim for data with incoming calls blocked and another for calls only and mobile data off.
for those who think why the heck one would want that, my example is that i never make and receive phone calls on my motorbike, but as well don't want to stop every other kilometer to answer a call, but need the device for navigation online and offline as to my liking and want to make use of the different plans which favour either calls or data.
what do all of you think about this disconcerting find, i mean after all we're on XDA, the community of mods, custom roms, rooting and whathaveyou ?
Well there is no void warranty on unlocking bootloader . a plus point .
Also,I have seen a great development for Yureka and Yuphoria, both are dual sims and 64 bit too .. Similar to op2 also both are cheap ..
Only difference in yureka and Yuphoria with op2 is Cyanogen ... So I expect great development on op2 too . As of now,I know 3 developers for opo coming to op2 for sure and I expect a lot more to come . Development might be less than OPO because of Nexus 5 coming but it will not be much less .. So I think you should buy it !!

Well Blisspop came to Yureka even before CM came ... So expect the same with OP2 .... And CyanogenMod will definitely be available for OP2 .. It is available for Samsung too then why not it ? It has nothing to do with what happened with Cyngn .. Rest assured .. A lot development is coming ..[emoji6]

BTW ROMs for Yureka are even more than OPO .... It made me once think to swap opo for Yureka but then my opo broke ....

thanks for the information, perhaps they are going to keep up with the fact that more devices, especially chinese ones, were recently launched with dual sim, even the new moto x is available with dual sim as an option, thanks for the heads up.
Correlation doesn't equal causation, right? I'ts possible the dual-SIM devices in existence weren't appealing to developers for a variety of reasons, not necessarily BECAUSE they are dual-SIM.

thanks for providing your point of view. i agree to the first part and would agree to the last part of your post as well if only the number of available roms wouldn't be so close to zero and there certainly are and were good ( appealing ) devices with dual sim.
however i feared that it might be technical reasons, means a lot more of work without having the great community, one indeed has to assume that it has to do with demand. so far so good, that would go hand in hand with what others posted and i tend to be hopeful

For sure. And my post is not in any way based on knowledge of hte devices in question or developing for dual-SIM devices, so you very well may be right. But until you find something thta specifically says "dual-SIM makes it too difficult to develop".... I wouldn't draw too many conclusions / freak out too bad.
Worst case, wait a couple months after the device is released and see how development looks before biting the bullet. Demand will hopefully have cooled by then anyway. The struggle of the early adopter....

I have something very good in plan to bring a lot of developers to the OP2 ... Just wait and watch .. And at the moment I can confirm 2 ROMs and 1 Kernel already .. Won't disclose the names but the Kernel is available for Nexus 5 too and the same developer develops another ROM for the Nexus 5 ,the ROM that is available for OPO too . And second is a ROM that is among the most famous ROMs for the One and many Nexus' too .. Not in Original Android Development [emoji6]

sorry but if he points out that he's not gonna mention the name ( not time yet ) it's not up to me to do that
further i'm guessing, so let's just see what will happen, keeps the tension and alertness high LOL
As long as the interest level is there, the development will be there, so there's nothing to worry about. There's healthy support for the Dual-SIM varient of Moto G 2014 for example.
I was totally in to buy this phone. But no development would be a killer for me. It never crossed my mind there wouldn't be as the is so much for the One. I use slim rom, and would want it on the Two.
Android 5.1 adds native support for dual SIM, so it should be easier to develop for devices than before, especially for those that ship with 5.1 like the 1+2.

Galaxy J5 is bleeding.

Our phone's forum is BLEEDING.
You may wonder, why? Our developers are getting suspended, our ROM's are getting closed, our kernels has been removed, And our forum is starting to burn.
First of all i wanna talk about Zonik and his great work...
As you know he made a CYANOGENMOD 13 port to our sweet phones. Oh and also he made PBS which i am running as a daily driver.
And guess what? They had a kernel made by DJ_Steve!
And guess what? It was unstable? It was bricking phones? NO!
IT WAS NON-GPL compliant!!
And after they found out that the kernel was non-GPL compliant, they had to close the thread.
Ok the kernel was closed and links were removed...
End?
Nope.
Soon one great guy named @#Henkate found that the PBS and Cyanogenmod 13 IS USING THAT KERNEL.
He instantly reported the thread i guess and soon the mods were informed...
And guess what...
They closed the threads. They closed the ROM's that have been popular. PBS now has over 45,000+ views and CyanogenMod 13 has got over 50,000+VIEWS..
And now let's talk about Performance boost speed (PBS)
It is the current fastest Galaxy J5 ROM!!
With so many tweaks, even i am running it as a daily driver...
And who needs to ruin it? Mods and one guy who is acting like a mod! Except you @sawdoctor you are the best
In PBS the developer is trying to max the speed out of this device!
And the DJ_Steve's kernel is making that ROM fast!
Again, guy who is acting like a mod needs to report that ROM and inform all the moderators.
And Zonik is the great man who tries to make our device faster and even better!
He even wanted to help me to boost my ROM what i wanted to create, but in the end i just didn't want to do it because i knew that PBS is the best modified stock ROM in the moment..
(Who doesn't believe me i can send screenshots of our chat in facebook :l)
I am just going insane!
I can't take this!
I am quitting XDA for a while.. I can't do anything if the great stuff is removed...
I am just protesting for this!
Thanks to everyone for being here and making our device XDA supported. I greatly appreciate that.
I'm out.

I am out

Well said mate, no need to go telling tails it wasn't hurting anybody.
I too am using zoniks PBS ROM and I love it it's the best rom I have used by a long way and I'm gutted not just for us using these ROMs but for the guys making them.
A quick message could have saved all this.
I'm gutted

I understand your concern my friends. You tell me what can we do now? Nothing. We cant undo the things which has happened. If there is one thing we can do is to stay calm and wait until a new rom perhaps is released by some developer who are on this forum ( it can be me as well). So i kindly request u all wonderful guys out there not to create any further threads like these.
Edit:

OK mate, out of respect for you and all developers I will stop taking and adding to threads and will wait see.
I have a new phone as from Tuesday but will be keeping this J5 for testing new ROMs.
To be clear I'm stopping out of respect for the developers and for XDA and this forum.
Let's all stop and move on.
Henkate. I will still discuss anything via PM with you but I too think you need to stop posting for a while or your gonna keep winding people up just by your presence. Alot of people are very angry
Let's hope that some developers will use or J5 forum.
King William's. I hope your exams go well but I hope that you come back.
John

This really is a waste of time . Do J5 users think they are special and exempt from xda rules ? It's quite simple if devs follow the same rules as EVERY OTHER device developers do then there will be no more drama. I mean is it really that hard for a kernel dev to publish his sources ? we only need a tarball for gpl rules .
If you want to blame anyone blame Linus Torvalds
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_Torvalds
He is the one who licensed the linux kernel under gpl
