I understand the adaptor comes separately but I'm wondering is 0.3a enough for a good charge and can it also charge from my Xbox 360 and Virgin media TiVo box? I am asking because I know it is a very powerful battery at 3000mah

I ran down the battery one day. I plugged it into my car charger, 0.5A, left it for a few minutes, powered up OK, but kept coming up with battery low notifications every 20 seconds. Stayed on but was annoying... I guess more than 0.5A

In the case I mentioned, I don't think the phone would've charged, it appeared that the car charger supplied just enough to keep it going (or extremely slow charge).
Basically, the higher the amps the quicker it'll charge.
The mains charger i use outputs 2.1A & it takes about 3 hours from flat.
I see you use a 1.55A charger so about 4 hours from flat... at a guess.
The 0.3A you mention is the input current from the mains...

How long to charge???

The beast? I got mine but haven't powered it up yet for charging purposes. There is no light indicator that tells you when its done.
Got mine yesterday and I charged via AC and it took about 3 hours to complete. After letting it drain over night after 8 hours of heavy usage, I'm charging via USB and it's taking forever. With it on and after 2 hours, it was only at 15%. Now turned it off and it's been 3 hours and it looks like 75%. BTW, press the power button once and the screen will show the batter gauge.
you should charge it while turned on and for 6 hours or more for 4-5 cycles. Let it go down to 5% for those 4-5 cycles. Do not let it turn off from lack of power.
That is from instructions I received from a third party battery which had these detailed instruction to maximize capacity. I am sure you will get 1000 different ways but that is what I use and have always had good battery life.

While powered off, you can hit the volume button to get a visual on the batter status.

This thing pretty much requires the cable that came with it to charge at full speed. Older MicroUSB cables charge at a much slower rate and are recognized as USB devices when plugged in. It must be because of the higher capacity battery. When you have the right cable plugged in, though, it charges pretty fast.
I'm noticing that even using the wall charger and the USB cable it came with, it's taking about an hour for the Note to charge only 15%. Anyone else noticing this? Is it normal that the first batch of charges takes this long (at that rate it would take 6+ hours to charge from 0-100%)?
My note charges very fast when I use the ac adapter and super slow when I use the us from my computer. About 1.5 hours on the ac and more than 3 hours on my pc's us

Its always a good idea to charge using the AC wall adapter. The USB port on a computer usually supplies ~.5A @ 5v to charge the phone, the included Samsung wall charger supplies double that with 1.0A @ 5v. That is the reason you see such a big difference in your charging times.
(Some computers now supply more than .5A through USB, but .5A is most common)
USB3.0 can supply 5.0v @ 950mA to charge, but the kernel isn't set up to take advantage of this, I'll see if I can change that (it would only affect charging while booted)
Just shy of the AC adapter for those of us with USB3 ports

I was excited reading this because my new laptop has a 3.0 port. However, I then remembered that my power brick for my laptop is kick ass and has a USB port that charges devices at 1A anyways. Haha.

So I got it down to 5% and then I plugged it in at around 8pm and at 11pm it was at 100%. Not bad, not great but seems about right. Now my question is I see a notification that battery is fully charged and to unplug charger but Im going to bed soon and am going to leave it plugged over night. Is this risking the battery in any way?

That would be the only use for my USB3.0 ports so far. Have yet to even need to utilize it.
The charger that comes with the Note can charge the battery in 3hours via ac. I wouldn't suggest to charge via usb, just because it's way too slow. Im using my playbook charger to charge my Note, Galaxy Nexus , and my bb 9900. This charger is 1.8a, it nearly charges 2x faster than the regular 1a that comes with most phones. Same thing for my car charger 2a, i even use my ipad charger to charge my iphone 4s and it's way faster!! Use more powerful chargers... Not more than 2a or your device might melt down!!

That's weird. I was under the impression that GS Note only accepts 1.0A of power. Well at least that's what it saids at the back of the phone. I've got an iPad charger that draws out 2.1A, maybe I should give that a try.

USB charging cable and amp requirements?

I'm looking for an external battery charger (preferably solar powered) for taking my Note on backpacking trips. Unfortunately, most of the solar packs that I've found have only .5 - .7 amps available for USB output. If I'm using a 1amp charging cable (with the data leads shorted), will .7 amps kick in the AC charging speed? Is .5 amps enough to charge the phone while I sleep for 7 hours?
I suppose it depends on how long you are out without power but another alternative is an external battery that allows you to charge your phone by plugging it into the external battery.
This one here (at $75 USD) will let you charge the Note from completely dead to a full complete charge 4.4 times.

So, if you started your backpacking with a full charge on both the phone and the battery pack, and assuming you charge the phone every night at say 20% battery left, you should get 6 days. If you need more than that, you can just buy a second battery pack (personally, Id want to have two just in case).
That's a good suggestion from littlewierdo. I would also have at least 2 spare batteries for the note. I don't think that .5 amps is enough.

Budge I had an HTC evo 4g and got a 5400mah battery. This worked ok. However the output is .5a which will not charge the note if you are using maps with gps or bluetooth or playing tunes. It wil charge when not using those. Say at night when you are asleep. I think you would have to find a battery with output better than 1a to actually charge when you are actively using your phone. I am not sure of the actual output you would need. I will research it though for my own needs. I do use my note on my motorcyle with a charger which outputs .5a and this is nowhere near what is needed to use google maps and bluetooth and play tunes.

Im not sure where you got the .5 amps from, it outputs 1 amp, so it will charge the Note with the screen on. However, it wont charge quite as fast as the wall charger will it will actually charge the phone.
It should be able to handle keeping the screen on, bluetooth doesnt use much power at all so playing music shouldnt be an issue and gps uses very little battery as well. I dont see an issue with it.
Admittedly, I dont have one of these, dont really have much of a use for one at the moment but I cant possibly see any issues with this.
HOWEVER, there are alternative external battery packs that are MUCH cheaper with less mah capacity (meaning, in simple speak, you would get less power storage meaning that you wouldnt be able to charge your phone as many times as you might like). There are other USB battery packs that might also have less power output (or more) which might mean that you wouldnt be able to keep the screen on AND charge the phone.
Truth be told, I only looked for the highest capacity battery pack given what your situation was AND I tend to buy higher end if the price makes sense. In the case of battery packs similar to this design (external usb battery packs), they generally start at $30 and go to about $80 so buying the best possible makes sense. However, if the highest/best possible was $200, Id probably get something cheaper, but since its only ~$80, if I were in your shoes, that would be my choice.
Id probably consider getting two of them (that is, if we are talking about longer than 1 week excursions, if under a week, just get 1) and a decently long usb cable (3-4 ft) but not too long (you dont want to be tripping over the cable but you need it long enough that if you need to, you can charge the phone mid-day while hiking).
You dont need multiple batteries for the Note, the whole point of this external battery pack is to eliminate the need for them.

littlewierdo I was not necessarily speaking of the device you suggested but one I had. I was warning Budge to be careful and not get a device which outputs only .5a. I was suggesting that he find one which will put out 2a if such exists. The device which you suggested will put out 1a. However I don't believe this would be enough for my purposes and maybe no Budge's either. i was not refering to your device or you. Not my intent to get in an argument with you but to help Budge find a suitable solution.

I was adding that it may be a good idea to have a spare. I was responding to the OP who mentioned .5 amps. I assume that's where imesg was coming from, too.

No rapid charge using non-HTC chargers?

Hi all,
When I use the charger that came with the HTC One my phone charges great, rapid.
But when I use any other charger that I have in my home/office it charges very slow. Even with a 2.1 amp charger!
The charger that comes with the phone has an output of 1 amp.
I've tried multiple other chargers (1 amp and 2.1 amp) and they all trickle charge.
Anyone else noticing this?

I'm using old charges at home and in the office and it did seems slow but had not heard of rapid charge. Will the phone indicate this rapid charge mode? If not, is it real?
I'm getting slow charging even on the stock HTC charger. Not sure how I can enable this rapid charge cause 4+ hours from 0-1% to full is a bit ridiculous.

If anyone is coming from phones with smaller batteries, remember the larger the capacity the long it takes to charge.
I use the cable and charger from my Nexus 7 and it charges fast. Off my USB it is slow.
Real AC chargers have two pins shorted. You can hack a USB to micro USB cable and short the same two pins to enable AC charging with any adapter, wall, USB, or car. Should be pins 3+4, but don't hold me to that.

i've done exactly this, and damned if the One still refuses to draw more than ~500 ma off of anything but the 2.1 A wallwart it came with (i don't have any others to try with). i'm about to dig out an old inverter to see if that will actually work. wish i'd paid more attention to my EE dad when i lived at home; i've gotten a serious crash course in this stuff while trying to get my One to charge in my car, when it's on.
edit: so i got my old inverter out, and spent about 15 minutes testing. i used the 2.0A adapter that came with my Nexus 7 to test, as well as the 3.1A Mediabridge adapter i got here. my phone was at about 45% when i started testing. unplugged, Battery Monitor Widget reported a drain of anywhere between 500ma and 650ma (running Ingress, wifi on). plugged in to the Mediabridge adapter showed, at best, a drain of 50ma. the Nexus adapter plugged in to my inverter charged at a fairly consistent ~120ma. i didn't touch my phone the entire time.
i left my Nexus 7 at work so i can't use it to repeat the test, but i will do so tomorrow. the cable i'm using is this one. i'm not crazy about having a ridiculous DC-AC inverter in my car for my phone, but if that's what i have to do so it can be used and not drain, then so be it. admittedly, i don't really understand these things enough to explain these variations, but i plan on learning ASAP. perhaps somebody else can shed some light on why the device charges different, and how it identifies an AC-USB adapter vs a DC-USB adapter.

Math doesn't support what is happening though. Phone has a 2300mAh battery. The OEM charger outputs 1A (1000mAh)
At most, it should be around 3 hours for full charge, when in fact it is closer to 4-4.5 hours. It's the last 10% that is the issue, it will trickle charge to 100% rather than rapid charge.

Yes, I think that's exactly what the HTC does... I read a pretty good article recently about Li-Ion batteries that talks about how trickle charging is the best for battery life, and it wouldn't surprise me if HTC got a little aggressive the way the this phone charges since we can't swap the battery ourselves.
I'm trying one last car charger, which matches the wattage of my Nexus 7's 5Vdc/2A AC adapter (which I've had the best luck with, when charging the phone while in use): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009TBF7IG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If that doesn't work, I'm going to put a 300W inverter in my car with the AC adapters themselves and stop buying stinking DC adapters. This phone clearly pays very close attention to the wattage available from whatever it's plugged in to.

Since I'm part of the lucky people owning a Huawei Ascend Mate 7 (MT7-TL10), I'm actually looking some accessories like a quick charger.
I wish a charger better than the original one if possible, with EU pins, and with a good quality checked (I prefer to avoid some product with awesome specs but not tested ...)
So anyone have any idea where I can find a good charger, and without any risk for my phone ?

for few days i went to jarir book store on KSA . I found Charger good price also 2 USB 5 volt 2.4 Amber ... compatiable with mate 7 and faster from orignal ...
just to know more fasting to charge wil damge your batter of mate 7 quickly .also orignal 2 A will damge
for me I charging with Iphone charge 1A good for batter and Stander and low risk to Device
If you want proper charging, then always use the accessories coming with that product. It is tested for sure and good. Other than that, you can use any charger delivering the same charge. The original charger is 5 volt, 2 Ampere. Don't use anything above 2 amperes as it may damage the device. Below that will charge it slowly.
BTW, why you don't want to use the original charger?

Can you test it with ampere (free in gplay) i don't think it will charge over 1800mA so that it acts like a normal 2a charger
Fast charging
Using a fast charger will destroy your battery faster. Not recommended as the battery is not removable. You can get a battery and if you are comfortable removing the back and swapping it out then go for it.

that is not correct as you are not connecting the charger to the battery directly. In fact the charger is just a power supply. The actual charger is integrated into the phone (charging controller).
In general you need to know that volts are pushed to the device by the power supply and amps are drawn by the device (phone) from the power supply. Therefor using a power supply with more than 5V will kill your phone but using one with 2A, 3A or even 4A will make no difference as the charging controller will just pull the amps required. Because of that you can not really fast charge a phone by changing the power supply only if the phone supports the fast charge option (for example some Nexus phones).
I tested this myself with a power supply (can provide 5V and 1.5 to 4 amps) and an amp meter. The phone always drew between 1.5 and 1.6 amps (with and empty battery, 8 to 10% left) regardless of the selected amps of the power supply. Using a power supply with less than 1.5A will kill the power supply as the phone tries to draw the 1.5 amps or more. As result the power supply will get hot and eventually die.
Since battery is not removable be careful with fast charging, since it will decrease the life span of the battery and in the end it will just give you less battery performance.. it is stupid... however.. there is situations where it can be really needed though but not on a regular basis..
Last weekend I would really had needed fast charging.. It forced me to spend about 3 hours on a cafee so I could make it 100% so I did know I did survive the day with gps and all other things.. However in these situations I really like the ultra power saving mode..it saved me that night.. when I was lost in stockholm.. and my phone was really the only way to get contact with people

Why don't you buy a powerbank? I can advice you the xiaomi 16000mah. That one charges fast and you can be mobile.

I wonder if a S6 charger do the trick. Stock charger is too slow damn. Spending 3 hours to have a full charge is not acceptable for me.
I'm going to be honest, it doesn't really matter how you charge your phone as long as you don't go over 5v and 2 Amps. Batteries will automatically lose cells from charge cycles and by the time you feel the effects of the battery going bad, you would have already moved on to the next device for the next person to worry about. And saying to use the Stock Charger isn't really good enough as the Stock charger doesn't serve as a Car charger also. If you want to charge your phone quick, and you already have a 2 Amp charger, Check your microUSB cable. Don't use junk cables, buy quality or use the cable you received with the device. You get what you pay for. Fast Charging won't work as the Charger has a chip inside that communicates with the Phone and Device. Also, when buying a charger, don't just randomly buy a charger online, Make sure its UL Tested. Even if it says UL tested, there should be a test number on that UL Label, take it a step further and google it and make sure it matches the charger specs and passes as knockoff chargers are notorious for copying other chargers Regulatory icons to make it seem authentic. You don't want to buy a junk charger that ends up burning your house down or gives you a very bad 120 Volt shock through the microUSB cable that would also kill and fry your phone.

1.6A is nothing.. i use 2.0A and it still chrges 3 hours
one friend conected his phone to a hi suite, he went to repair sistem or something like that, and it pop out an option of QUICK CHARGE... even he doesent know how that hapends, now his phone charges faster. he is on b331 rom

Therefor using a power supply with more than 5V will kill your phone but using one with 2A, 3A or even 4A will make no difference as the charging controller will just pull the amps required. Because of that you can not really fast charge a phone by changing the power supply only if the phone supports the fast charge option (for example some Nexus phones).
I tested this myself with a power supply (can provide 5V and 1.5 to 4 amps) and an amp meter. The phone always drew between 1.5 and 1.6 amps (with and empty battery, 8 to 10% left) regardless of the selected amps of the power supply. Using a power supply with less than 1.5A will kill the power supply as the phone tries to draw the 1.5 amps or more. As result the power supply will get hot and eventually die.

You have not read my earlier post or you did not understand it. Changing the charger on the Mate 7 will have NO effect (zero, nada) on the time required to charge your phone except the charger delivers less then appr. 1.6A. Then it would take longer and evetually kill the charger. The Mate 7 uses a Kirin chip which has no fastcharge implemented. Samsung uses Qualcomm Chips with implemented fastcharge technology. The charger (in fact a power supply) and the phone/CPU/charge controller need to communicate with each other, otherwise fastcharge will not be activated (the reason fastcharge with charge-only cables does not work because they lack the required data cables for communication).
I'm going to be honest, it doesn't really matter how you charge your phone as long as you don't go over 5v and 2 Amps.

The amps of the charger don't matter at all -> amps are PULLED by the phone not pushed to the phone. You could use a charger with 100 or 1000 amps and it would not hurt your phone a bit as long as it is only charged with 5 Volts.
More amps (>1.6A) on the charger do not improve the time for charging one second.
1.6A is nothing. i use 2.0A and it still chrges 3 hours.

Yes, and that won't change one bit even if you use the best and most expensive charger and a 1000$ cable. The Mate 7 is limited by its hardware (built in charge controller) and pulls max 1.6A. End of story.
As long as you don't understand how charging works you will spend 100's of bucks for cables and chargers to no avail.
The only reason, why charging with some charges is quicker than with others is that those chargers actually deliver the amps they are supposed to deliver. There are a lot of cheap/bad chargers out there which are labelled with 5V/2A but only deliver a fraction of the amps. You can identify those chargers easily because they get extremly hot. I use a 2A charger from Aukey which gets only lukeworm.

I have used the charger that came with it (since it was the only USB-C cable I had at the time) and it charged amazingly fast. I bought a Wireless charger as well which is also amazingly fast. It's my first wireless charging experience and I was told it trickle charges so it would be much slower than charging from the cable, but I barely notice a difference in speed at all. I keep checking the phone what seems like every couple of minutes if not seconds and the % has increased by a lot more than I would have imagined. I thought wireless charging to be pointless and a who-cares ordeal, but not that I have experienced it... I don't think I will go back to a device without it (not for a phone at least). I'm not sure if any health issues can be there from radiation, but I'm almost dead anyway (well... I have about 50 years to go I guess) so I don't really care, lol.
For those wondering, I went with the CHOETECH Qi Model T513 wireless charger. Input: DC5V/2A (Max) Output: 7.5W which I purchased from Amazon for only $19.95. That was 50% off at the time I purchased it, but that was only a few days ago so you might want to check on it.
Really? I feel my g6 charges way slower then my S7 edge. I still have it but I'm gonna test this tomorrow.

Really? I feel my g6 charges way slower then my S7 edge. I still have it but I'm gonna test this tomorrow.
Went and picked up this bad boy today. LS variant. Out of the box, had 41%. Using my car charger Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0(yes 2.0) and the included USB C, it charged to 70% in the 20 minute drive back to my house. For using the old QC tech, still charged amazingly fast. I have a QC3.0 39W wall charger that got delivered this afternoon. Will wait til this baby dies and charge her up with that and will report back.
Ive noticed when using a QC 3.0 charger and cable doesnt seem like the g6 is actually charging faster. Its suppose to support QC but its not.

Using the provided cable and charger it takes about 2.5 hours to go from 5% to full which is generally fine, but there isn't a burst and then trickle. I appreciated being able to plug my phone in for a short time when it was low and top it up enough to go out and not worry about it dying. Can't really do that with this one.
I had a power brick laying around and says qualcomm 2.0 and it charge`s really fast, like 1% of battery every min. , but yes with the stock charger brick takes forever to charge.
Using a Xiaomi USB C charger (45W) which supports both UPD 2.0 and QC 3.0, my phone charged very fast.
Mine charges super fast with the supplied charger. I plugged in with 11% yesterday and hit 50% in like 25 minutes.
quick charging is convenient and all, but is there a way to revert to normal charging? I don't want to accelerate my cycles. Thanks.

Use a non-QC charger.
thanks. I'll do that, I have to get extra cables anyway. Although I was wondering if there was a way to hack it phone-wise.

the charger that comes with the device doesn't support QC3, it's a QC2 charger.
so, getting a QC3 charger would defiantly decrease the charging time :good:

Look to the charger specification, if it supports only 5v and 9v then is QC2. QC3 scales on various voltage between 5 and 12 volts.
And yes, the provided charger is QC2, probably the same Found with the G5.
Yeah I take back what I said. The supplied charger does appear to "only" be QC 3. It still seems faster then QC2 though. Maybe it's just in my head. It works for my needs though, I can get almost 50% in like 20.
Charge in airplane mode when you can. When you have no worries of anyone calling or texting. With wifi off as well you'll see a decent jump in fast charging.
purchased by phone a couple of days back and it charged from 5% to 100% in approx 1.40 mins with the stock QC 2.0. I'm damn impressed....
Let me Ask y'all something. Coming from a LG G4 and just Charging My Batteries by a OEM Battery Charger I got 2HRs More of SOT. When I charge via the USB Quick Charger I got the same 3HRs as usual. So I got 5 while charging Slower then the SO-Called Quick Charging. To my understanding Batteries are meant to Slow-Charge rather then Fast
