Bluetooth settings fault Eonon G5153F + Malaysk ROM - MTCB Software Development

Im running the Malaysk ROM for RK3188 on my Eonon GA5153F
Since flashing the Malaysk ROM my bluetooth settings keep reverting to default, carkit device name etc.
Even if I manage to change them and even hold the settings for a coupe of boots on rare occasions they always revert to carkit and the default pin.
This problem has repeated over 2 versions of the ROM and posting in the Malaysk RK3188 thread brought nothing useful in the way of info.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions how to sort this out, its very annoying and I desperately need bluetooth handsfree back for work purposes.

Dont know if its relevant - I also have the GA5153F and although everything was fine with Malaysks 4.4. ROM - when i updated to his 5.1 version - bluetooth did not work until I changed the bluetooth adapter in Factory Settings to the non "b" version (same model number) since then it works great.

Yep, youll get nothing with the wrong adapter set.
Unfortunately this is a different fault.

Anybody?
I know others have suffered this problem, doesnt anyone have any other suggestions?

Get a Parrot BT. I am using a MKI9200. It is simple to install and call quality is 100x better.

Im sure it is, but it doesnt help solve the real fault with the kit Ive already purchased, fitted, and seriously need to function as I regularly need to take calls when driving, Im a courier.
Frankly I didnt have any call quality issues when it was working, its the total lack of function thats a bit of an issue!
Is this a hardware fault? Is it a Rom fault? IS it a media board fault? IS it as simple as a file somewhere being over written or with bad permissions?

Non b worked for me but now I have no wifi

It is essentially a manufacturer (software) issue. Malaysk has mentioned somewhere that Chinese developers messed up the BT stack. You must understand that these units use a plethora of BT boards from various suppliers AND in various HW revisions. Nobody will work on a universal BT service that accommodates all these boards. Your best bet, if you want to use the on-board BT, is to find a ROM that works, through trial and error, and stay with that one.

Thanks I am aware of the hardware diversity. It is frustrating that these companies have a weak attitude to stability. However the original rom had functional Bluetooth, and the Malaysk rom is supposed to be based upon it, thats what is also frustrating.
I tried posting in the Malaysk thread but it was largely ignored, scoffed at and lost in all the noise.

BlueAnt X5 A2DP Stereo Headphones

Ok...
I haven't found anyone else that would admit to trying these headphones with my phone (Dopod 838 Pro).
The headphones themselves are pretty cool. They fit pretty well, don't look toooo dorky, and the buttons click nicely etc. I haven't had them go flat on me yet. They could have come with a protective case though, and you have to take the microphone off to charge them, and I'm always afraid I will lose it.
When I first got them, they sounded crap. AM radio crap. I updated them to the latest firmware from the BlueAnt website (what a drama).
Tested, and they worked ok with the dongle - not exactly hifi sound, but the quality was ok to listen to.
Next I called BlueAnt HQ here in Australia, and after getting put through to a tech support guy he told me "They should work fine, I tried them with an iMate JasJam - no problems. Do a reset and try re-pairing them" (Duh).
Then I called the Dopod support line in Australia. During business hours. It goes through to an answering machine that doesn't even have an introduction message. Left a message. No reply.
Just as I was about to return them, I found the A2DP software tweak/patch on the wiki. First let me just say:
AAARRRGHHHH! What they hell are Microsoft thinking? Why have a registry setting \HKLM\StereoMusic\MakeMyMusicSoundLikeCrap=1 setting in the first place, and THEN why ship all phones with that enabled as the default? How many people have returned perfectly functioning Bluetooth headsets because of that? STUPID. I reckon Microsoft/HTC owe BlueAnt (and others) a truck load of money.
Secondly, that helps. Music is now stereo. I've been using them every day for a few weeks now. The bad news:
1) The quality is still very poor. There is a metallic hissing/sizzling/sibilance sound, especially noticeable on female vocals, which sounds (to me) exactly like a poor bitrate encoding error. The quality is much worse than when I pair it to the dongle it came with. I suspect it is the phone (or the MS BT stack) at fault not the headset. I would really like to be able to fix this.
2) With Wifi enabled, the music cuts out every few seconds. Unlistenable.
3) With Wifi disabled, I get the occasional glitch. I can live with that (if I must)
4) Using the headset profile during a phonecall, the sound I hear isn't too bad (a little muffled) but people tell me I sound really distant and hard to hear.
5) The AVRCP support is dodgy. Most of the time it works. Often when I first hit Play, it plays for a few seconds and then stops. I have to hit Play/Pause again and it starts. Track seek and volume up/down seem to work well. Answering a phone seemed hit and miss at first, but seems to mostly be working now. Not sure if this is the phone or the headset.
The iMate JasJam listed in the compatitabilty section of the BlueAnt website, but the Dopod 838 Pro is not. I emailed BlueAnt with my findings, and suggested they add the A2DP hack to their FAQ for other users. Hasn't appeared yet.
So, my questions:
1) Has anyone tried these headphones on a Hermes device? Does your experience mirror mine? Or is one of my devices faulty? Is the voice quality on the headset profile ok?
2) Is there a Widcomm (?) stack that works on the Hermes that may fix the problem, or...is it likely to be any better with WM6?
3) Does anyone have an A2DP headset of any brand working on a Hermes with "Crystal clear CD quality sound" like it says on the box the headphones came in. If so, what brand? If it is possible to get a good sound out of the MS BT stack, it might be worth pushing BlueAnt to release a new firmware to fix the issues.
4) Would a Bluetooth 2.0 headset give a better result? (Is it a bandwidth issue?)
Any replies would be helpful.
Thanks guys,
Zilch.
Yep I have an X5 unit connected to my Imate Jasjam and have not updated the firmware.
Yes it did skip when I first tried it but after a bit of experimenting, discovered turning off WiFi fixed it.
Yes it was mono till I did the reg hack to make it stereo.
No I don't get any hiss and think the quality is great (I know this is subjective but I tested female vocals as you suggested and they were great -Croncrete Blond, Eurythmics, Dyvinals, and even Chris Issac)
You may want to go here http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/default.aspx to realise the complications/dificulties the Ms WM guys are up against. I am sure they had a good reason to set the default to mono (maybe some devices didn't work at all with it set to stereo)
I would have to suggest there are other issues with your setup that are compromising the playback quality. I honsetly am impressed.
I don't use it as a phone headset as I use the X3 model to connect to two phones (I like Blue Ant stuff), so I can't comment on the mic quality.
When you consider that most people are having a nightmare with their stereo headsets (read the Widicom thread, if you have a lifetime to spare), then I am totally impressed with Blue Ant.
Sorry to have to disagree with you.

Hmm...ok. Are you saying that the quality from your JasJam is the same as if you used the supplied Bluetooth Dongle that comes with the X5? (That's my goal currently)
If so, maybe there is some sort of configuration difference between the JasJam and the Dopod. (The JasJam is on the compatibility list, and the support guy did say he had used it ok)
I'm not just being an anal hifi buff here. The sound quality is obviously poor, and quite noticeable. You probably don't have it, but if you listen to the track 'Lithum' by 'Evanescense' it makes you cringe when the vocals come in (the piano sounds relatively normal. It's noticable in all tracks, but specifically in tracks like that.
Did you use this utility to tweak the A2DP sound settings? Or edit the registry manually (if so, can you tell me what settings you used?)

I don't really accept that as a valid reason. Sure they have problems. The least they could do is make a user tweakable UI to change that setting. It's not acceptable to have a protocol designed for stereo music set to mono and no way for a user to change it.

I haven't used the dongle for a long time but when I did it was thru my HiFi playing CDs not MP3 so there may have been a difference in quality but never bothered to compare as I never had a problem with the playback quality from my Imate.
I did a manual reg fix using the wiki recommendations of 48 and 0.
I have model H1.
You may be right that the Imate is configured a little differently but I also run it very clean.
I have so few problems compared to what I read that I feel embarressed that I'm so lucky. As an IT consultant I just luv it as my work phone - I use VPN, Terminal Services, WiFi, Push Email, internet access, etc... and it's a phone! Constantly impressed.

Can't believe the way people on this forum butcher their devices and end up with something that is full of broken things... oh but I'm sooooo cool because I have WMXL .20.1 with radio rom 6.47.803 - don't care that nothing works anymore. Juss wanna be soooo cool.

Just for the record, I got the headphones a few days after I got the phone. The only thing I had done was put my SIM card in, copy a few MP3s and change the default theme (since the Dopod one is grey).
There were no mods/hacks/cooked ROMS/tweaks etc. Just the ROM it came with which is also the latest version on the Dopod website. My phone is supplied to me by work, so I need it to be as reliable as possible - I can't afford to mess around with it. (Which is one of the reasons I resent having to edit the registry to get some stereo headphones to play in stereo)
Note: Today I have a few apps installed. An RSS reader, train timetable, TomTom etc. Only hack is the registry change for A2DP, and a util which sets the soft input to Block Recognition mode on startup. None of these seem to have affected the quality of the A2DP stream in any way though.
Unless I can try my headphones with someone's JasJam, or another Dopod I'm not sure I'm going to be able to narrow down the issue. I think it has to be a difference in the X4 hardware/firmware or an issue with the Dopod ROM (compared to the JasJam one)

I have it as a work phone too - and work in IT. I haven't had any issues with it except Windows Media Player losing the tracks on the storage card, and the device locking up from time to time (this is always when I am not using it - it is turned off and does not turn back on). Overall it's a great phone!

I was actually considering getting an X3 as well (they look cool), but I will wait until I have worked out the issues with my X5.
Just thinking about this. How does it work? You are bopping along to your perfect A2DP sound, and you somehow hear the phone ringing, so you take off the stereo headphones, get your X3 out of your pocket, insert it in your ear, and answer the phone!?

Don't use X5 at work, but when I'm relaxing at the beach or around the pool. Use X3 connected to my Imate and my private phone at work. AT the time it was the only headset that would connect to more than one device and works great.

Kupur was applauding an admitted newbie who, after 1 hr of owning his device decided it wasn't right and flashed it with some cooked rom, upgraded the radio, and SIM/CID unlocked it!!
How can this guy have any point of referance? How can he know he has made an improvement if he never bothered to use it properly in it's std state? And he will no doubt curse and abuse Ms and HTC for producing crap hardware and software.
As you say each to their own but it's hard for me to understand some ppls mentality.

If I was tempted to do that, right after getting it is probably when I would do it. Reloading all your stuff sucks. Plus if he needed it SIM unlocked to use it that could be why.
Plus, what a better way to learn than bricking a $900 brand new phone?

To answer my own question in case anyone else is having this issue...it's all fixed with the official WM6 ROM. Works perfectly. (Except for the dropouts when WiFi is enabled)
yeah I have them and have had for quite some time now ... first used them with my Eten G00 then the G500+, then I changed phones to a nokia n73 and things didn't seem so good. anymore I lost the remote functions and even though I like the new phone I missed some things like nav and others so i went back tot he g00+. I have now updated to the HTC Tytn II I think sim to your hermes ....
I find nothing wrong the x5 controls a re great and quality is exceptable... I have no issues with Wifi.. I have the updated firmeware on my x5 and the stock firmware on my tytn II..
I also have a hs850 paired to the device the only thing I deslike on the hole issue is that everytime I use the x6 I have to fiddle around getting them to resume the pairing.
where as my hs-850 I just turn on blue tooth and turn on the headset... and off we go...
I have the x5 set as default headset and default stereo headset... the hs850 is just another device listed and pairs up soon as its turned on.
Can someone post me the headset firmware and how to use it?

Bluetooth need to re-match after Prophet reboot or lost connection

With WM6, I had matched my bluetooth earphone with prophet, then I can see the BT headphone symbol on dialing menu. However, if I reboot Prophet, the connection will lost, when I making a call, it won't auto connect to my BT earphone(the WM5 rom did),I have to open setting->connect>BT rematch it to use my earphone.
The problem also happens if,
1.First build connection between phone and BT earphone.
2.Take away the phone only(far enough to let them unable to communicate)
3.Take back the phone and make a call. The BT connection won't re-connect untill you re-matching it.
It makes me very inconvience, thanks a lot if someone can help me to fix it.
Thank you!
I have the very same problem in all of PDAViet's roms. After soft reset the bluetooth partnership setting is gone (although the symbol of the paired device is still there..) I have asked for a fix several times but no one seems to care.. Very strange that only a few people seem to make regular use of their bluetooth headset....

Why do you complain so unsympatically? Remember that you flashed your device yourself. Nobody forced you, nobody let you pay for the software. You downloaded all by yourself a file that a smart person somewhere in Vietnam or Thailand or Russia or where ever, has put together becourse his hobby is to fool around with his PDA. That same person was so friendly to let the whole world join in on his party.
But don't complain when that person don't like to spend his time on your problems, for as far we know his doesn't have a BT headset at all and isn't interested in that functionality. It will become a whole different piece of meat when you had purchased the ROM, but you haven't....... did you....?
Cool...
rondol1 - I like your thinking, my sentiments exactly.
is there anyone can help?
Same sproblem with other bluetooth devices
I think it is not just a BT headset problem but a BT stack problem. I'm using a BT GPS and I had to re-pair GPS and Prophet each time I use (althoughit seems like it is already paired)
It is irrelevant maybe but similar problem exist on e-mails. I create an account for my email provider, download e-mails, but after a reset it looks like my e-mail setting are gone (have to re-configure it) But even when it seems settings are gone I can see it on my today plugin that I have such number of e-mails ( I can get to see them)

I did NOT "complain" about the problem not being fixed so far, but about the missing reaction of some of this community when I posted the question about the status of this problem on new ROMs several times (which this forum should be there for) and there was just no answer at all. Because I do not want to flash my device with every new "release" only to find out that the problem is still there. I am indeed aware of the fact that not everyone is using BT functionality and that a new OS manually adapted to an "older" device is something that cannot be free of issues from the beginning.
Any change on this behaviour with the new PDAViet ROM 4.0.0.0.6 Touch? Anyone tried?
Same problem
Thanks for All and for every thing they did to make prophet for WM6 but this bluetooth problem is really killing me also every time i am using my car bluetooth i have to pair
Same problem in all rom's
Have tried almost all rom's, same problem.
The problem seems not to be releated to the diffrent BT stacks. Have tried different. Also it is not related to the BT devices. Have used Handfree. Stereo headset. GPS unit. Serial ports on remote PC etc. All have the same problem. Works when paired. Then after a soft reset unit are still in the BT list. But they have all have to be re paired to work.
Surely have something to do, with the units loosing most, or some of the settings after reset. Its an anoying problem, which we all will have to look into.
All the new rom's are nice to have, and to play with. But if we wants the rom's to be good for regular and daily use. We sure needs to fix this problem.
I will start to do my own little investigation, trying to fix the problem.
The problem is the same in all rom's. So if its solved in one rom, I'm pretty sure its solved in all roms. (99% sure , I think)

Strange thing is, I've tried a few WM6 ROM, but never had any problems with lost emailsettings. I use it a lot, and just as everybody, I have to do a soft reset, once in a while...
So, the RAM storage as you describe isn't lost in all cases but also written to ROM.
As for BT I only use my gps-receiver and even that one only now and then It seems t work fine, but to be honest most of the time I've flashed my Prophet between several times....
I've the same problem with BT : always working with BT GPS, always loosing my BT Headset (try with 3 differents Headsets ...).
Be with devellop's team for correct this probem, and not with guy who critic this post without an BT Headset .... This is a forum and the critic is here to help the building of a 'very good' and more stabe as possible WM6 Rom ...

try change your battery or just pull out your battery overnight, i'm sure you will experience this problem. Sometimes on my phone when battery goes below 50% if I reset will loose setting sometimes. Just annoying but i can live with it.
The only way to keep your bluetooth, wifi and email settings all the time without worries is to use WM5.
If someone wants to try the bug, just soft-reset the phone while connected to the PC via activesync.
I guess that you will lose your settings (i'm not 100% sure because I'm now using WM5).
okeee.....
That are things I didn't try indeed. But at the other hand, what hould I want to do all that?
Tried the battery-change right away. Everything is still in order, no settings missing, time and date still as it should, email working as it allways did.
I did shut down my device first though.

You might be one of the lucky ones then. I believe majority of us looses settings at various times. what model specs are your device do you have anyway? is it new when u purchased? the reason i asked cuz somewhere i read there is a "button cell battery" might be a wizard thing not prophet devices.

I did buy my S200 new, without any branded OS, that means straight from Qtek. It's a G4, other specs Im willing to tell when you can precise what you want to know.
But... I don't want to be arrogant... when I read the many bug-reports I get the feeling that a majority don't use their device as it is supposed to. If you imagine that it is a small device with very limited hardware specs, it's not hard to understand that it isn't as foolprove as your desktop computer...
But again, it's just a feeling I get by reading many post, I also know that some of you have serious issues that cannot be explained from maluse point of view.

Phone mic voice too soft

My phone is giving me a problem in this area. When i talk on the phone (without using bluetooth or handsfree) people say i sound very far, or very soft. I've tried alot of different radios, and schaps diff versions. Including the latest 4.22ROM
Other then the rom itself i didn't install any other thing. But yet i'm still having this problem.
I've read in other topics that might be about setAcoustic.exe problem, but it doesnt' seem to solve my problem.
Anyone got any other suggestions? It's been causing me a big pain :
anyone know how to fix this??
update, it seems to be happening at random atm, some phone calls it's very clean, other it's too far..
hi, im having this same problem on my 8525. sometimes people can hear me and sometimes people can't hear me at all. any one else have this problem?
there was an old thread on this, search setAcoustic and you'll find it. if that fails , then i guess you can join me to wait for another solution
on the side note, bluetooth works nicely and i don't get any voice distortion or volume too soft.
Update:
So far things seems to be better atm, but it still happens. Sometimes while talking halfway, my signal can get very bad.. does this have to do with radio?
hey guys .... this is my first post here and i too am facing the exact same problem.... any solutuins? please HELP! (sorry for the caps)

Here's something to try the next time someone complains you sound far away/too soft: Switch over to your bluetooth handsfree without moving the phone. If you start sounding better then, I would guess that your built-in mic isn't working properly. You'd never know especially since you got it from eBay
Signal strength shouldn't matter too much, unless you start getting a marginal signal (say, one bar), and if that happens, try moving your head about (with your phone) - that should help the signal a little.

haha yeah, recently it seems to be working though, a few times people called me and said can't hear me but i called them back and it worked.
well just an update, nothing seems to be working for me.
Flashing to the latest schap's rom = not working
flasing to other radio versions = not working
Changing to non 3G network, same problem
i'm beginning to be convinced that it might be my phone hardware that's screwed up.
now i'm flashing back to original official dopod rom. see if that fixes things.
Update: While installing my officail dopod rom, i realize that the officail ones install alot more stuff into my Dopod.
Is this normal/ as per compared to schap's roms?
this is the 1st time i'm installing a WM6 official rom, does it make any diff? Everytime you reinstall a rom = kinda like format drive C and reinstalling windows right?
If startup animation is enabled, and set acoustic parameter is not ran. You will have low volume issue. It is Rom/WM related, not necessarily a hardware problem. My Rom ahs startup animation disabled, acoustic parameter is properly set.
Second that, I highly recommend u all try k's 1.30b rom!
how do you make sure acoustic parameter is properly set?
bump.. any one figure this out yet? im tired of texting i just want to talk on my phone hahah. ive come to the point that im gonna buy a razr.
hi all, just another update.
things was working very well for a long while while using K's rom, but now it's starting to happen again while i'm on k's rom.
setAcoustic Param is done (i read in K's rom it's set properly)
anyone got any other suggestions?
update: I've been reflashing a few diff roms, apparently all of them have the same problem, including K's one which i see setAcoustic running at 1st run.
I really have no clue why my voice is too soft. Now i'm flashing the official HTC one, hopefully it works...
anyone got any new info on this? i'm still having the same problem
if it is an hardware issue, is there anyway to figure if it is an hardware issue? or how do i open my phone?
just another update.
Now my voice fades in and out.. it's literally mood swings.. sometimes sounds good, other times sounds bad..
but i'm resorting to use wireless for now. it seems that wireless is more stable. there was 1 time which i was trying to talk on the phone's mic but the other party couldn't hear me, so i switched to wireless immediate on the same call and the other party could hear me immediately.
I've changed countless of roms already, the problem is still there regardless of what rom, official ones from HTC or others cooked in here, (schaps, k's, and many others) i can only assume that my mic is broken....
this i'm in malaysia and this is a orange phone.. i wonder if i can get any warrenty here at all.. or someone that knows how to repair this phone..
Hopefully this will be my last update
I've sent my phone for repairs. hardware wise, they say they fixed it. After that, my volume is pretty stable.
There are once or twice that my voice still went out, however, i found out that by disabling WOW HD Settings, it solved my problem too.
So far, i'm happy with my hermes

Advice Please...Update 6800 ROM/Radio to Fix BT Connection problems in Nissan Armada?

I have the Verizon version of the 6800 and am having trouble using the factory BT handsfree in my '08 Nissan Armada. The phone pairs fine, but, when I use the phone, the other party cannot hear me and they sound very scratchy. A little web searching and I learned that this is a common problem with this particular model phone. I love this phone and have no other issues with it (other than I would like to raise the handset volume some, which I have also seen discussed here). I dont want to change phones, but the inability to use my car's handsfree is kind of a biggie problem for me.
A little reading through the forum here suggests to me that updating my ROM & Radio could fix this problem. I am a complete newbie to this, so I'm not even sure that I understand what these terms mean. So, before I spend a lot of time educating myself on how to do this and what ROM/Radio I should use, I would like to ask if it will be worth my while. Can anyone here with some experinace in this area tell me if updating ROM/Radio is likely to solve my particular issue?
TIA for any help/advice.
Bump...any advice?
Well, after scouring this forum, I think I have my answer in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353632&highlight=nissan
Unfortunately, the answer is, NO...upgrading either ROM or Radio will NOT solve my problem.
Anyone with Happy News about a fix will have my undying appreciation.

Bluetooth Remote Control for Android Media Player, etc

I'm looking for a Bluetooth remote to use in my car, to control my G1 when it's hooked up as a music player. This is both a safety and convenience concern.
The starting point is finding a remote control that transmits Bluetooth directly to the G1 (i.e., not infrared or wired). It needs, at a minimum, a forward and a stop button. Reverse, pause, and other functions are nice, but not mandatory.
The other half of the solution is software to control the media program in Android, which may or may not already exist; if not, I'll commission someone to write it. Maybe I can even offer a turnkey system for sale if there's enough interest.
I know someone's will say "search the forums", and I did. What I found seemed to be focus on wired remotes for another HTC phone, or remote controlling your PC with your phone. But if I missed a relevant post, please do correct me.
Ideas are greatly appreciated.
remote
there is a remote for gaming used for the n95 i saw on a website it worked for android on a basic level. maybe that might help. in the development of this
Found this on another thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Wc0KqnW2M that some people are using. Jabra BT3030
Aux cable from car stereo plugged into remote. Remote paired with phone. Not *completely wireless* but atleast you don't have to look at your phone.
Does that get you anywhere?

Hmm, I posted a reply to this, but it isn't showing up. Maybe forgot to submit.
Anyway, thanks for pointing this out. I had seen this a long time ago and forgot all about it. That's exactly the kind of thing I want. Here's the instruction manual, for anyone else who might be interested. It's about US$55.
The only problem I see here is that it'll register as a headset and thereby disable the sound coming out of the extUSB connector in the car.

It's the Zeemote JS1, and this blog has a video showing it interacting with a G1. This may ultimately be what I'd have to go with... it seems to be designed solely as a controller, without A2DP getting in the way. But looks like it needs some kind of interfacing software, at least on the Nokia. At US$20, I should just get one and play around with it. Cheaper than buying another car stereo with BT built in.
Dual Infrared + Bluetooth Remotes
FWIW, I ran across two rare, interesting items.
One is the RicaVision Vave 100 Universal Remote. Unfortunately, it's $349... but in theory, it would control both your car stereo (via infrared, which the majority of remotes use) and the G1 (via Bluetooth). It's able to "learn" commands from 24 infrared devices, and has a 2.4" 240x320 color LCD screen. No PC or internet connection is needed for configuration.
The screenshots show artist/track info being received from Windows, so it's Media PC-oriented, but still a possibility -- assuming you could program it accordingly. If so, just carry it back and forth between home and car: use it inside for your TV and PC, outside for the car stereo and G1.
The other device is the Ricavision SideShow Remote for the same price, also having IR + BT transmitters. This is purpose-built for Windows SideShow, and has fewer buttons -- volume, play/pause, prev/next, etc. It's smaller than the Vave, but still has a 2.5" QVGA screen. This is perfect for my car setup, but there doesn't seem to be a learning mode or any way to program, so the chances of it working are about zero. Boo!
try the jabra 3030 (dogtag) theyre about $15 on ebay

If that worked in my case it'd be perfect, and it's the smallest form factor yet. The only problem I foresee with this and the Jabra is that they'll want to subvert my wired headphone output over to A2DP. But for $13 I'll probably take a chance.

Yeah, buying directly from mainland China, you never know what you'll get -- and if it doesn't work, it's usually pointless return it. But I've bought stuff from DealExtreme before, and dirt cheap, too. Back when I had this flashlight habit....

Well, I finally bought a Jabra from there. I'll play with it and report back on whether it'll work like I wanted above.
Meanwhile, I didn't realize until looking more closely that most of them were fake. I've been burned by counterfeits before, and sure enough, there are a ton of them on fleaBay. I made this graphic to demonstrate:
Aside from the logos, they look identical. Price is an obvious warning, but not always. Location is another: I'm wary of shipping from Hong Kong. OTOH, just because it says Jabra doesn't mean it's real... the Motorola H700 is another example where it's nearly impossible to tell them apart online.
Unfortunately, even with VeRO and the rules against keyword spamming, this junk can be found all over eBay.

In theory, if it's able to connect to one phone's A2DP, it should connect to any. But I wonder if it has something to do with the ROM you're running?
I've noticed the G1 needs some finesse when connecting and pairing BT. Also, there are different steps you can take that all arrive at the same result (ergo, lots of trial and error).
Anyway. Now that I have the Jabra, my next problem is keeping A2DP, HSP and AVRCP separate... more on that soon.

Here is whats interesting; I have tried the BT3030 with several ROMS and I get the same results (I even tried it on stock and then rooted). When paired placing and receiving calls work fine. The problem arises when you try to listen to music, the sound skips constantly and I haven't figured a way to fix this permanently. Do you experience this problem (skipping sound)?

It's strange that it works with one phone and not another. But if it really is a counterfeit, all bets are off -- you may never figure it out.

I got 3 knockoff bt3030s back in october (from dinodirect... shady) at $15/ea it was an ok price...
I too have the skipping problems on my Droid, but I just discovered how to fix them. Go into bluetooth settings, long-press the jabra bt3030 device, select options, and deselect phone audio and reconnect the device. Now, no more skips.
I don't know if it's the bt3030's fault, I think it might be an android bug where audio gets routed over phone audio instead of a2dp. This is evidenced by the skipping audio--headset audio only has something like 8khz of bandwidth.
It kind of sucks that phone audio has to be disabled, but in all seriousness, I use the bt3030 for a2dp far more than phone calls, if I need to make a phone call over the bt3030, I'll reconnect the phone audio and disconnect it when I'm done.
Don't know if anyone still cares, but for the record, and for searchers, there are these options:
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/217/sfID2/341/productID/1937
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/217/sfID2/219/productID/1938
Both of these are very expensive though as they are part of large packages for cars. YMMV.
