For a hard brick you would have to get it serviced.

Cool story, bro.

Hello everyone! I'm Wolf!

Hi everyone!
Anyway, my name's Wolf (that's what people call me) but my username is Bad-Wolf, obviously.
So, I got this phone for my 13th birthday. Best present ever. Never gotten anything like it. I used to have a HTC Wildfire S, but unfortunately, it got stolen. Link in the description. So I was left without a phone for a few months, depressed, and angry. And I was inactive on XDA for all those months. It felt like I lost my place here. I was quite known in the WFS forum, and I even developed a simple ROM, but I'm not going to name it because if I want to make a ROM here then I want to use the name again. I was also (trying) to make a simple kernel, but then it got stolen so there was no point. I'm quite a noob by the way.
So, I'm going to be here for quite a while, looking at threads and learning. Which is going to be really difficult because there's like a million threads. So if there's anything you think I should see, please tell me.
I applied to be a mod quite some time back, but I didn't get accepted. But I was informed that I would've got the job, because my application was awesome, but they're keeping me for reserve, and I might get picked if they need mods soon.
Also, let's talk about my (social group) TDOT. Which stands for "The Devs of Tomorrow". This was a group that I made a few months ago, and now is growing, and has 50+ members. It's for kids like me who like developing, or want to get into it. I'm currently making the website, and we're still working. But it's a great group, with great people.
I suppose the only work I've done with Galaxy phones is I quickly rooted and unrooted my Mum's Samsung Galaxy S, and I nervously put stock ICS on my Dad's Galaxy S2, using Odin. I was really scared, because I had never used Odin, I didn't want to brick it, and it was my first flash on that phone (after like 100 on the WFS, lol).
I've heard about all the Apple v Samsung v HTC drama. Apple has had a truce with HTC apparently. And I've heard of Samsung jigs, read a bit about them. They do something like force the phone into download mode or something, very useful for resetting the flash counter, and other stuff like that. Also, they can get you out of bricks, if you got a bad situation, maybe even a USB brick (not sure about it).
I want to learn as much as possible.
That's all I can remember to say for now (I'm forgetful). Anyway, I hope I can make good friends here, like I did on the WFS section, and maybe get into the small developing scene.
Sorry if this thread isn't in the right place. Sowwy. So I made up for it by writing all this!

Hello, aleays nice to see new young devs, I hope you feel at home with us
To root you will want to flash cf root in odin to do this dowbload the package, extract the zip once (it includes odin).
Put the phone in download mode, open odin and end all kies processes, connect the usb and odin should say added. Click the pda button and add the .tar file that was in the zip, make sure repartition is NOT checked and click start when it reboots you will be rooted.
To reset the binary counter use the triangle away app either on play store or free on xda.
I'll add links when I'm on my laptop until then search and thou shall receive

Thanks guys. you lot are nice. I thought I'd get spammed saying things like "So what if you brick it" or "Look it up yourself". Anyway, I'll do some more reading. Then I'll get my game face on.

HTC Radar How to?

Is their a walk through for installing a Custom ROM on Windows Phone 7.5? I've got the HTC Radar, unlocked. I've jail broken Iphones/pods and Root/Unlocked Android, but Windows Phone 7 seems a lot more complicated, I have searched but can't find a walk through sort of thread in the first 3 pages of results.
Thanks in advance, John

Wow....
any ass-hat that complains about this forum not helping hasn't spent time on xda. Best group of people anywhere for phone help from a to z. Is it to much to expect that someone actually spend time looking for an answer before they ask a question? I think not. Don't know why I felt it necessary to vent on that, but good riddance to him . :good:

First time here. Help me in learning

This is my first time here. I love the way Android can be customized n played with. I keep reading tech stuff daily. After every hour I guess. Tech is something I indulge my most of the time in. I love, worship it. It is the most important part of my life that I Cnt live without.
But i dont have an understanding about Rooting, Flashing, ROM n other stuff associated with it. When I hear or read these terms I feel missing some thing important. I wanna root my GSIII someday when it stops getting update or taking centuries to come. Since this is my first time here please help me in learning all this. If possible put down some links for beginner's level which is easy to understand.
Thanks XDA.

You sound like me when I first started. Rooting is being able to run programs and commands with root/ administrative rights. Its like logging in as a user who has God mode on. You are not restricted at all from anything have have full command over everything.
A ROM is a version of the operating system. Like cyanogen mod, PAC man ROM, omni ROM. They take the android source code and heavily modify and tweek it add add special features .
A kernel is , kinda hard for me to explain. Its kinda the heart of the operating system it . hope that helps a bit.

Just now I have opened and saw the FAQ and Stickies and the general thread. I'm overwhelmed now after seeing so much coming on to me. Wow tomorrow is my first exam of my 3rd Sem of MBA and I'm more interested in learning this stuff. May be I'm the one of the techies. As of now tech-lover would be wise to call myself. I'm a very impatient kind of person and I never seen anybody more impatient and desperate than me. If I find out something I dig it to the core and try to learn everything about it no time. I wanna be an active member of XDA. Just like I'm seeking bad help today, I wanna help others tomorrow. I hope I will be able to do that soon in the future. Anyways, if there's any other way you can help with like YouTube videos etc. in addition to FAQs and Stickies. I would appreciate that.
Thanks XDA.

Its your choice to read them or not .
Impatient persons usually brick their phone as they are not bothered to read the faqs and guides .

How did the exam go? Just a word of advice - it can be very easy to get distracted with all this stuff but you'll always regret prioritising it over more important things like exams!
I got involved with flashing new ROMs from a practical point of view years ago when I had my HTC HD2 and I loved it! The speed, the tweaks and the customisation were fantastic. I'm only now learning about the theory of it all.
Two words of advice:
Always back up everything! - do nandroid backups (once you learn what that is) and save all your important files/pictures/music/videos onto your desktop too
Leave plenty of time when you start rooting and flashing - initially I was spending 4-8 hours figuring how to root and flash my first ROMs
Always search for answers on the threads before posting - it will be much quicker, you'll learn more, and you won't annoy other people
Enjoy and I hope you have as great an experience on XDA as I have done!!

The exam went good today,57/70. I just love this stuff. Everyday I keep reading about the tech stuff. I know I won't regret. How can anyone regret doing something he loves. I bought my first Android handset, S3 in this May and prior to that I had no experience of Android. I know I won't Root my phone before my phones warranty actually expires but I'm very keen to learn this stuff. I mean this is one area I know nothing about it. I Love forming. I use many forums n following many communities on g+, XDA is one of them. I will love to participate here one day like you all do. I know this feeling. When a newbie joins ha forum n his questions are too lame to ask for, well my wasn't lame. If I'm a beginner I need support. After all what we are here for? Anyways, I hope I Dnt have to annoy people here much and learn as much as I can do it on my own. And
Thanks for posting.
