Thanks for the reply, I've actually used this app before I didn't really like it. I was wondering if maybe there was a setting in the note 4 to change it? When I had a balckberry bold ages ago my favorite part was the light because you could change it to whatever you wanted. Thanks anyway though!

LightFlow used to be a great deal for me without root. If you are rooted, a better battery-friend option is Gravitybox (Xposed Module). Its paid version supports setting custom notifications for every app (LED only or vibration and ringer too).

Light Manager is my personal favorite with some in depth options

[Q] screen dimming app for nook color

im using nook color 1.1 with stock android,
and i was wondering if there's is an app similar to redshift/f .lux that will work on the nook.
redshift is a Linux app that will give the monitor red tinge, to prevent sleep problems you get from working on your computer in the night.
f ./lux it the windows version of redshift.
edit:
i forgot to mention that i tried screen filter and total screen control but they don't do what i want

I have also been looking for a f.lux like app, but have yet to find anything. I think it would be great for reading.
Here's their website, if anyone is curious.

something that may aid us in getting the answer
well i started a question with bounty on it, with hope it will help getting an answer for that.

using an app in market called screen filter it allows u to dim the screen quite a bit for dim reading
i tried that, it dosen't do the thing i'm searching for,
the app suppose to give the screen a red tinge,
is there a way to do that somehow by editing the system files of the nook maybe?
cm6 has that feature, hopefully if cm7 gets ported then that feature will be avaiable also.
while not exactly what i wanted with couple of tweaks https://market.android.com/details?id=com.absurdsoft&feature=search_result
color filter service fits the the description

Change LED Indicator colors

Hey guys,
I've searched XDA/google and tinkered with my S3 but cannot change the indicator lights colors. They default to blue for notifications. I remember being able to change the colors on my HTC G1 and was wondering if anyone knew how to do this on the Galaxy 3?
Thank you.
Theres an app for that
Check out lightflow (though there are still some bugs that need to be worked out for the SGS3)

Stock sms themes

Is it possible to get different themes in the stock sms app? I'm rooted with xposed module and tweaksbox. I actually like the stock app, function wise, but lord it's ugly as sin.
There's no themes, but in tweakbox you can change the color scheme.

I don't see the option to change the color scheme of the messaging app. I know devs can now include it in their themes, but to my knowledge none have so far.
Edit.. I stand corrected, my apologies.
It's not the stock one, but Chomp SMS allows for all sorts of customization.

Unless i am doing something wrong, the only thing you can change is the top bar color. I'd really like to black out the whole apk, if possible.

Me too... anyone??
I use the verizon Message+ and you can change the color of almost everything.
I made mine dark/holo colors and I'm actually perfectly happy with a verizon app which is weird, but works and looks great

I'm having issues with the VZW apk; everytime i enable it as the primary, it starts downloading ALL of my past text messages. I had to put it in airplane mode to kill off the 30 conversations that i THOUGHT i had deleted that it was busy recovering.
any idea on HOW to turn that function off? I don't normally save text messages, so don't want it saying i have 300+ new messages and going thru all of them.
thanks,

Try QKSMS from the Play Store. Fairly new app but plenty of theme customizations without straying too far from the stock SMS feel. I was hooked immediately! Just what I'd been looking for in a messaging app for a long time.

Completely Dark-moding the V20 (running Oreo)

So, starting to switch my V20 (996US on Alpha-Omega Oreo ROM) to dark mode.
Many apps now have a switch.
I've installed the Dark Mode app to get some more apps into dark mode.
Installed the LG G8 Black Theme in the system settings to get the system settings, default dialer, etc. into dark mode.
What other dark mode tweaks am I missing?
For example, how do we get dark mode gmail in Oreo?
How do we get the notifications darker?
You should use a theme that has built in dark notifications. Most mark bencze themes that are dark mode have that option.

I haven't heard of any free ones that do. Out of the paid ones, here are some specific ones mentioned by someone on the Subreddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comments/arfj5n/anybody_know_any_other_lg_dark_oreo_themes_that/
Also, one member recently discussed trying to get dark notifications with Substratum themes in the past but having trouble:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/lg-v20-reveiw-modding-guide-mid-2019-t3930639/page9
It's a shame there's no easy free way to darken the notifications.
Any other tips for darkening the phones? (Like Gmail and a few other apps)?
I use muify, a worthwhile paid app, that you can color however you like, it's a sister app of Bottom Quick Settings that does the same.
Youz might be interested to know dark mode uses more power on an LCD because dark mode had to block out the white backlight behind the lcd. The opposite is the case on an OLED because it doesn't have a backlight : )

Thanks for these suggestions and for the tips about the backlight.
The only free theme with dark notifications that I could find for the LG V20 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.black.mios
Mios Black
It's quite nice overall!

Got the same unavailable message. Strange to see a free LG theme being blocked in the U.S. I don't think there are any other sources than the external sites you see when searching. FWIW, I've used several apps from the APKPure site in the past without problems. I keep one of my spare V20s in a "minimized" configuration with no Google accounts attached and all apps either sideloaded or installed through Titanium Backup.
And in case anyone missed it, someone in that review/modding guide thread mentioned the free Substratum theme Sai's Oreo Theme that also has dark notifications (and it's not geoblocked in the U.S.).

Blinking LED replacement?

Is there anything we can use that would add to the native Ambient/Always-On Display a coloured blinking dot similar to the LED notification lights that previous devices had?

There's an app called notify buddy that you can try
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xander.android.notifybuddy
Having a notification like that on the AOD would most likely have to be baked into a custom ROM but it's a cool idea.

Yeah I was hoping more for something capable of hooking into Ambient Display itself. The description for this app explicitly says the first thing you do is "Disable Ambient Display and any battery optimisation for the app."
I wonder if something like a Magisk module could do this.

Try AOE from the play store. I have it set so the AOD only comes on when a notification comes in. I have the edge lighting set to the colour back as I use a black wallpaper for my lock screen. Or you can play with the coloured edge. Up to you.
Interesting, yes it looks like AOE can draw over Ambient Display. Requires a crap ton of permissions but it works!
I can't seem to get AOE to work on my phone, I have Android 11 installed any help please?

It's not a very intuitive app. But basically you have to walk through all the app menus and let it ask for all the different permissions it needs, before it will actually work on Ambient Display.
It's sad to admit but i don't get it. I activated all the permissions but only get the standard AOD.
Could anyone export his settings? That would be awesome...
Hi, I followed these instructions:

These worked for me. I'm playing still around with some options, but if you follow the steps in the guide linked above it should work.

Thank you! That guide worked perfect. Any clue of the battery usage difference between ambient display vs this?
No, I have no clue. I've never used the "classic" ambient display. Battery in general is very good, but I'm not a power user. Usually the battery of my smartphones last about 1.5 to 2 days.
I'll currently monitoring the battery life of the Pixel. With my user profile it will last at least 1.5 days.
i try do get the ambient Display only to show up when notification arrives or Phone is charging.
have been playing around with Always on Edge app but it seems i can't get the settings right. the app realy isnt intuitive.
anyone can help how to set it up right?
greetings

I have turned on AoD and I find it a suitable alternative to the led. There are notification icons in the centre of the screen when a notification has gone off.
Settings -> Display -> Advanced -> Lock Screen
Always show time and info on.
Everything else is off.
I know some links here, they will be useful for sure!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.holeylight
This works perfect!
