I would appreciate help with my current broken S4, specifically getting my data off. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey, a week ago my phone was crushed by one of my friends somehow and now, as you could guess, it doesnt.. display. No touch response either as far as i can tell. only response is vibration (turning on and off, recovery mode etc)
see.. i've really messed up here. this is a samsung device which means i have two tools useful in aiding my problem. kies and FindMyMobile (to unlock the screen) and as i just noted my phone is locked so kies will not work. why cant i just import files? Usb Debugging is disabled. FindMyMobile? not enabled on device. AllShare? Remote Control? both disabled. everything seems to be blocking me.
so the question is, is there any way possibly using adb or another method to either enable usb debugging or pull my files from my internal SD? if so, sorry to be a pain but this hasn't happened before. well, my data hasn't been as important before. Anyway, could you explain in deep detail for me? i'd appreciate it.
if not, is there any program or method to unlock my phone through my computer?
please, no one suggest USB OTG as even if my device does support it, it either wont work or i wont be able to get one in time. my phone goes off for repair or replacement on the 28th. (factory reset)
i've been looking for the past 5 or so days for a software that can do this. Wondershare was one of them, installed the recovery package on my phone but did nothing at all.
I apologise for the long and vague question im not sure what im asking. i just want all my photos and videos off my phone. nothing else. my computer recognises my phone but doesnt allow data transfer. i guess my priority right now is finding out a way to unlock my phone. Thank you in advance

[Q] Retrieve contacts and data with a cracked screen?

Today I cracked the screen on my sgs2 while it was in my pocket, I have no idea how it happened but the good news is my service provider is replacing the phone for free.
The problem is I only get a blue line across the screen, I know the phone is working because I am still recieving messages and it rings etc but I cant unlock the screen to get it into mass storage mode to retrieve my data!
Any idea if I can get into the phone any other way to retrieve contacts etc?
No backup ???
Or Nandroid backup ??
jje
People should sync with google more. For anyone reading this: go into Contacts, press menu, and select Merge with Google (it should be something like that, my os language is Dutch).
This way you can see al your contacts at contacts.google.com
@topic starter: have you tried looking at http://contacts.google.com if your contacts are stored here?
Have you tried adb as long as debugging was turned on which some roms do by default it should work. Or boot into recovery then use adb.
I have tried adb it doesnt seem to do anything, how do I put the phone into recovery?

Vol up--->Home--->Power. Hold this three buttons on the same time and release when Samsung logo apperas
Well, I couldnt get the phone inot recovery mode either, but now my replacement has arrived I guess I just have to bite the bullet and use an older backup.
Is there any app or a way that I can install something on my phone so that if the screen ever breaks again I can access my data not just to back it up but to delete it?
I just assumed you are rooted (most people on this site are) but I should make sure so that you actually had a recovery with adb, are you? I don't know if the stock one does.
If not flashing cf-root using download mode would give you CWM recovery.
No I am not rooted, I was unsure if rooting was reversable and didnt want to void my warranty, Im even more scared off now that I know the screen can break when the phone is in my pocket and hadnt been mis-used or dropped at all!
Well the phone is already wrecked so the warranty is already gone. Just root it so you can get your data.
The main problem is do you remember your software version so you can use the right cf-root kg* kernel.
the phone is still under warranty, and has been replaced. I would now like to know how to prevent this from happening in the case of the screen breaking again?
Wow I never knew of a warranty that would cover physical damage like a broken screen.
For the new phone make sure the first thing you do is to turn on usb debugging so that you can use adb on the stock rom.
Also another possibility for getting data (just a theory) but if any remote control software (VNC etc) in the Market AUTO STARTS with the phone, it could be installed by using market.android.com then control the phone from your computer as long as wifi was on.
I don't know if any exist like that though and a quick search showed one VNC server but you had to open the app and turn on the server.
Edit: I wasn't thinking of the limitations of adb data access when not rooted, so well it is still a good idea for the new phone you may want more ideas from other people

[Q] Totally braindead?

So let's start off saying I messed up bad. REALLY BAD. I'm not the one who is braindead, by the way. It's my vibrant.

I have an important recording in one of the folders in my internal data that I would be willing to go very far to restore. The recording would be impossible to reproduce, even under the same circumstances and people involved.
I've been able to boot up the phone (supposedly) because I hear the hardware battery charging sound. Only two of the indicator lights on the bottom light up. The touchscreen seems to be unresponsive, but I could be wrong because the sounds for the phone were disabled before the accident. "HEY MAN YOU SHOULD HAVE USED A CASE" - I did have a case on.
Anyway, when I connected it to the desktop (drivers already installed, done this dozens of times) it said unknown device. I tried other USB ports, still got nothing. I took it to the laptop, same issue. Tried to force install the drivers, that didn't work either. The battery is fully charged. I can restart the phone and the boot times combined with indicator lights at the bottom tell me the phone is "working"
I have Droid Explorer installed, the program I usually use to access the file system. It doesn't find any devices connected. Not sure about ADB. I read somewhere on the forums that you can get into recovery mode by pressing HOME+POWER+VOL UP. I'm not sure if the home button works but I tried this with no luck.
"HEY MAN WHY DON'T YOU BACKUP" - I do. On the first of every month. It hasn't been the first of November, therefore I don't have this backup.
Tell me my friends, is this phone to be euthanized? I would also preferably not want to buy a new screen. Any sort of help is appreciated.
Hey question, is the recording you want on the SD card or the internal memory of the phone, reason I ask is if its on the SD card, you can pull that out, mount it on your lappy or whatever and use the proper SW to explore the card, and retrieve your audio file you want, otherwise, if not then yes you still need a way to overcome the detection of phone to access the two drives for the internal memory of the phone, so you can retrieve your audio file. Yes drivers are the first thing that comes to my mind, however if the phone was being detected prior to damaging it then IDK why that would change unless there is a HW issue from the trauma of dropping it, was the phone detected prior to dropping it with 0 defects and since you damaged it that functionality is no longer working???? I mean your confident its fully booting up, and technically the phones functional except the screen is hosed, do I have this scenario right, and as such is the reason why you cant navigate to the folder you need in order to retrieve your file????
Look you also gotta find a way to see what your doing with the phone so you can get it into mass storage mode, then you'll be able to extract the audio and whatever files you want, BTW replacing the glass isn't that bad, unless your not confidant about doing fragile mechanical work on phones!! And replacing the capacitive glass face would restore the phone to an operable state where you could once again be interactive with it.
Of course if the recording was on the external SD card I wouldn't have a problem with it. It looks like the trauma messed up the hardware, but I can't be sure anymore. Of course If I fix the screen and connect to wifi I can recover it but a screen would cost me another $150 and I'm not sure if that's such a good idea. If only I knew someone else with the same phone, then I could borrow their screen temporarily!
I sort of know exactly everything that you're saying, it's just that there's no solution to the problem so I'll have to either get an expert to recover my files or buy a new screen. Looks like I will need quotes on this.
I have a phone with a cracked screen that still works. That screen with your mobo could be used to at least get a display and pull the files you need. PM me, and I'm sure we can work something out.

I literally had this same problem. I'll tell you what I did. You need to set up adb on your computer. There are plenty of instructional videos on that. Once you have adb setup for sure, then connect your usb and power the phone on. You should hear your phone recognize your device. Open up cmd on your pc and type in adb devices. You should see your phone listed. Now download a program called "Android commander" it's for windows. Android commander uses adb features to see, copy, erase, and basically manipulate all the media on your device without being able to see your screen or enable mass storage. I used this trick to pull pictures of my daughter being born off my vibrant before sending it back to Tmobile for my replacement. I also was able to delete su and any traces of being rooted or having custom roms on my device thus avoiding my warranty being voided. Hope this helps. If you need further help, feel free to add me on google talk. I'm happy to help. I know how I felt when this happened to me. [email protected]

Someone please help, for this Idiot :D

Hey Everyone. I have a extremely annoying and stupid problem with my phone
I have Z5 Premium. What happen is that my phone was always locked with fingerprint and pin number. BUT, for some reason after installing some applications and launchers to try on my phone my locking system sometimes didn't work. Some it lets me just to swipe my finger and I unlocks the phone, without asking for pin... sometimes it asks and sometime it don't, it started to be very annoying so I wanted to check if I change it to password instead of pin if it will be the same. The good news is, it looks like it fixed that problem and the bad news is my phone is so f***ing safe now that I can't even unlock it my self!
I created that password for very temporary time, for some extremely stupid reason I used password which I never used it anywhere else, it was only 4 letters and at that time it looked very easy to type and remember it but I was wrong... I reminded it for 20 mins than I felt a sleep for a short nap and when I woke up, its gone I'm trying to guess that pass and unlock it for 4 straight days now!!
I know I can do hard reset and start again from scratch but I don't want that. I just made all the setups for my phone and everything and I don't want to loose whats in it.
So what options do I have? I found quite few good methods but usually I'm not able to do one of the steps in it..
I tried Google Device Manager method, it didn't work because I already had password not a pin or pattern so it didn't let change pass
The best one I found so far is to flash a script through CWM to remove my pass. The only thing is my phone is stock at the moment and unrooted so I don't have CWM. Another problem is I don't think USB Debugging is enabled on my phone which creates even more problems in my situation I couldn't even get my phone into normal recovery mode when I tried with this phone, anyone know how to do it?
So guys, what options do I have without resting and deleting everything on my phone again?? Please help me, as this thing drives me crazy form 4 days now... I want to smash my phone into wall or my fu****g head because I set that pass up...
Ps. Is it possible to do a android backup on my phone? with looked screen and debugging disabled? but somehow so it doesn't backup my lock screen pass to? I dont think so my self but may be Im wrong..
thanks
I just found another method which I will try now, it could work...
nope, usb debuging needs to be enabled on that method too.. :/
never mind "helpful people" sort it out by my self.. how do i delete this threat??
Hi, I have the exact same problem but I want to hard reset the phone as it is new. What should I do to achieve that?

[HELP] Samsung Galaxy J5 stuck in safemode, RFP locked.

Hello to all genius mind.
I am writing here, to find a solution for my problem. I will start from beginning, to be as clear as possible.
This summer, during my vacation time, while diving, I found SG J5 in the bottom of the lake (sorry for the person who lost it like that...). Since I never had android smartphone in my hands before, I was wondering, can this device still work, since I have no idea how long it was under water and what can I learn from this process.
After opening it up, cleaning with 96% alcohol and drying it, devices finally showed some signs of life. Actually, almost everything was working, amazing...
Once I got this device running, I started to deal with software. Following some tutorials online, I was on the process to bypass RFP, but could not finish it, since I had other important matter to attend to. After I was back, and turned device on, for some reason, it booted into safe mode. I have been tried again SideSync method, but it was not working, since device did not reacted, after I plugged in to PC. Computer can recognize device and I can even browser the files in it. Weird thing is, that lower volume button stopped responding (I had theory that it could be jammed, once I removed it and cleaned contact, no changes was in the system, still in safe mode, so its not jammed button...), it was working before and all other buttons are working fine. Because of that, I cannot load recovery mode.
OTG method also did not worked, since nothing happen when I plunged usb into phone (safe mode block all external apps). I have tried to flash new ROM, with a help of "Samsung 300K Tool" I can launch download mode, but new ROM did not gave any result either, and RFP blocks all custom ROM's, that could modify system.
ADB do not find the device, since USB Debugging is probably off, and I don't know a way how to activate it from PC. The trick to disconnect WiFi, when it checks info for google account, did not worked either, since its not possible to select a text for sharing it.
After trying all the methods that I could find, I hit the brick wall. Phone works fine, but its completely locked. I am thinking, that new Samsung protection system is designed like this, to force phone in to safe mode after one hard reset and lock all posiblities to byass RFP, not sure though, it could be hardware problem to, but no idea where...
Does anyone here could help me out with this case
THANKS!
Best regards to all,
HG

Total Nube with a smashed/squashed, but "live" S9+

Hey all, I am totally new to this sort of thing with phones, but have a long IT/networking/Telecom career behind me. I am new to the site, so don't know the best way to find what I'm looking for. My predicament is this: I have an S9+ that was run over (many times ). The case and screen are totally smashed, like a fractured mirror, and are inop. The buttons do not work. BUT it is still powered up and connected to my LAN via WiFi - I can see it in my Connected Devices list on the router. I plugged it into my PC with the USB cable, but unfortunately the PC is not recognizing it. I have already obtained and activated a replacement S9+. Is there any way to recover my data, apps, logs, etc. from the squashed device?

Hi,
You can try to connect to findmymobile.samsung.com and find your device. Before that you should have a samsung account configured on the device.
After connecting to the website, you should see your phone with the location and when you click on it you will see some options such as "Save".
Click on it and select what you want to save (app data are not saved if i'm not wrong).
Try from there and let me know if it work for you
Thanks for your response, riojosepha! Unfortunately I did/do not have a samsung account. At least not one intentionally set-up by me. Was one perhaps setup automatically when I purchased the phone through VZN? I'll try poking around at findmymobile.samsung.com as you suggest.
To close out this thread: I am unable to access the phone. I am going to take it to a data recovery company.
