G5 Dead. Question about warranty repair - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I have a 3 day old T-mobile G5 that is sim unlocked and rooted. Phone was working perfect until this afternoon. While playing Hitman:Sniper, a multi-colored band covered the screen as it locked up. I couldn't get it to do anything at that point, so I pulled the battery. I rebooted, locked up, shut down, and now appears to be dead as dead. Nothing I do will get it to power up.
So here's my questions about sending this in to LG for warranty repair.
1. Since it's completely dead (PMIC from what I'm reading), will LG be able to replace that chip, power it up, and realize that the phone was rooted, thereby voiding the warranty? Or will they just trash the main board due to the fact it probably costs about $.03 and pop a new one in?
2. My other concern is sending this in without wiping the data first. Will they be able to pull up all of my personal/private data if they do power it up somehow?
Not sure I have any choice but to take a gamble on this as it's a paperweight at the moment, but just figured someone would have some info on this stuff.

and yes they can tell if its rooted even if it doesn't power on for you. mine bricked and once they hooked it up to diagnostic tool they knew. but i got a good tech and he did a warranty exchange for me

Thanks man. I can't enter any mode at all. This thing is completely dead. Been trying everything I can to get some kind of power out of it.
Guess I just have to send it in and hope for the best? Since I'm on Straight Talk I can't even go to a T-mobile store for repair. Have to deal with LG.

If you are in the USA you possibly (probably) will have lost warranty even though it seems to be a hardware defect. They'll know you unlocked your device because you gave them your device id and imei when you requested the unlock code.
Either way, I'd send it in for a warranty claim. You might get lucky and have it repaired for free. Otherwise they'll tell you the costs for the repair and you can choose whether you want them to repair it or not. Depending on the price, you could let them repair it, go to an unofficial repair shop, or buy a new device (however the latter will almost certainly be the most expensive).

Thanks for all the info W. I don't think sim unlocking the phone would void warranty in any way, so giving them the imei and id shouldn't be an issue. I think. My concern is the unlocking of the bootloader so I could gain root access. That's something they wouldn't possibly be able to know unless the diagnostic equipment detects that like Comp mentioned. Either way, it's looking like my only option here is to send it in for warranty and hope for the best.
Gotta say, I currently have an AT&T G5 in for it's second warranty repair for overheating, and this T-mobile unit bricked after less than 3 days of use. As much as I love the size and design of this phone, I'll be selling both off immediately after repairs are made and finding a different device. Such a bummer.

TOUCH PANEL-fail

I receive this error when I boot into fastboot or HBoot modes. When I power on normally, it boots up fine (takes longer than usual), the slider lock screen comes on BUT the touchscreen doesn't work.
Also, this phone is flashed to Cricket (I'm not a Verizon customer) so while the phone is technically under warranty, I'm not sure Verizon will honor the warranty.
Any thoughts?
Downgrade to 1.5 if possible.
PCDPhones can probably fix it, the warranty is technically through them.
I'd go to their website and call them up. They'll have you mail your phone to them. OR find a Verizon friend that you can re-flash the phone back to Verizon, and take it into a Verizon store. They will either give that person an exchange or mail them a new phone.
If you send your phone to PCDPhones, it can be 2 weeks, but they DO honor the warranty. Possibly if you take it to Verizon as well, I'm NOT sure. I know HTC still honors this warranty, and it's done through PCDPhones. Sounds like your touch screen went bad.
You could try to downgrade if you're worried that you won't be under warranty, with http://www.androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/ in the All Things Root area in AcidBaths' thread on his first post there, hboot and all, so that you're "covered by warranty" - to be honest I bet if it's a physical problem - which it sounds like it is - they won't care about the software anyway
ok so I got the $5.18/ month insurance from Verizon, they tried to offer a $6.99/month plan that adds a 6 month warranty to the exchange and then took it back saying you cant with the thunderbolt.
So my question is should I just tell them I lost the phone and get to keep the battery, sd card, and possibly fix the touch screen later to put it on Metro PCS? Verizon says they cover lost phones, does anyone know if I will have more trouble if my phone is lost versus broken?
Also if its broken is there anyway of getting out of the $100 deductible?
Anyone know if I have to wait a day after adding insurance or any trouble I will run into with this?

[Q] Keep Warranty Replacement?

Ok, my Vibrant decided it didn't want to fully boot one morning when I tried turning it on. I then called T-mobile to try and fix the problem. They couldn't do it due to the phone being hardware locked. They then told me they were sending a warranty replacement. I decided to google the problem and found that I could fix the problem using Odin and adb. I was going to cancel the warranty replacement, but I got a text saying the phone was on its way. Anyway, the phone showed up and I decided to test it to see if it has the hardware lock, which it does not. I was wondering if it would be best to call T-Mobile and tell them that I do not need it anymore and return it. Or, if I should keep the new one seeing as it doesn't have hardware lock? What would you do?

You can still send the warranty phone back to them if you like/want your phone.
So long as they get a phone back, you won't be charged for it.
If your old phone is hardware locked why would you want to keep it. You would have to run the hardware lock fix or the same thing or worse could happen to you again

[Q] should i send in on warranty

Just looking for some opinions and advise here. Got my attic on Craigslist about 6 months back. Was plagued with reboots and having to pull battery a lot. Unlocked it and started flashing anything and everything trying to fix (roms, radios, kernels, cm7, cm9 etc) . Finally settled on neutrino. But still rebooted and froze. Installed wakelock and now works fine. Just found out phone is still under warranty with Motorola. Should I send back or live with wakelock not letting my phone go into deep sleep.
And my wife's attic was also bought off Craigslist. Hers worked great until last update (she is on pure unmolested stock not even ROOTED). Now it reboots, constantly disconnects from wifi, proximity censor issues. Should I send hers back now or wait and hope next update fixes.
My warranty up in October hers in November.

On both. I am pretty sure will send hers in. Mine being unlocked worries me a bit. Is going to suck using old backflip while phone gets repaired. Bought these cash so no contracts but from what I have read Motorola will service without receipts.
I would try warranty on locked non-rooted phone. My personal opinion is if you root and unlock it is your problem.We all know(or at least should) the risks that are involved.

I briefly read the warranty. If I remember correctly they don't cover damage done by using other software. And since I had the prob before the software didn't cause prob. Oh and how did you get a straighttalk logo. I don't remember it being an option. 45 unlimited* rocks
Nevermind found straighttalk. Of course after I buy 2 e71's. Just for the sims they start selling them for like 15$…oh well
If you try to send it in the worst they can say is no.Watch tethering and/or laptop dock usage, I have recently received calls from Straight Talk about my data usage.Last month they throttled my data so much the last two weeks that pandora wouldn't even load.
I haven't tethered since my alltel days. Then Verizon got ahold of them. Had to go with straighttalk. Saves me about 60$ a month on my not smart Verizon plan with 2 phones

Send both in under warranty. When you unlock the bootloader is states "MAY" void warranty. I haven't heard of anyone yet being refused warranty for an unlocked bootloader. To the contrary, the forums are full of people having no issues. Some people have received replacement phones which they cannot unlock however, so it seems Motorola is trying to prevent anyone in the future unlocking again.

Send in both. Turnaround time with Motorola is actually quite fast, and they should have them two or 3 days max.
I sent in my bootloader unlocked Atrix already (digitizer issues) , but I did use a method found here on XDA to hide the unlocked text from the boot screen.

Sending in wife's soon. I may try a factory reset with hers first. Forgot that I haven't tried that since they updated. I don't mess with her phone much. I am going to get mine back to stock and send it in when hers gets back (only have one backup phone)
Factory reset didn't help. Sent in. It arrived at motorepair friday
Send in both.
On the unlocked one, just flash back to stock. Very simple. Takes 5 minutes. Hides the unlocked text, and "re-locks" the bootloader.
Did that for mine, and Motorola replaced it.
What's the warranty lemgth on these?
One year, but the service rep told me that on this issue if it is not to long over they warranty it anyway.

You can check the service status on the website and it will tell exactly what they did regarding your case.

I had to send mine in for warranty repair once, I didn't read about the proper way to unlock the bootloader back in the day. Even while rooted with a custom ROM they did a warranty replacement. Hopefully yours comes back okay with no issues.
well the wife's phone is back today. still has same issues. the ones i know of are not connecting to wifi without rebooting. proximity sensor issues. and there is a error force close message that keeps coming up. gues I call moto tomorrow. Back to repair shop in mexico hurray:silly:

If you can find any dead spots with the touch screen, that is another big issue with the atrix.

I think you're phone is permanently bricked . You might be able to recover it using ATF (Advance Turbo Flasher) but that requires buying special hardware and soldering it to your mainboard, and I'm pretty sure it would be expensive. If you're still under warranty, you might be able to have it replaced by Nokia.

Maybe it's not to late, bozzy.
You can see if you have warranty just by checking your imei number, if yes just bring it to an ncs point.
Just read this and check your emei on the bottom of the page.

Yeah, I think the warranty might still work. I myself bought my phone from eBay, and I sent it in for repair because the battery cover was getting loose. It hasn't arrived at Nokia's Repair Center yet, but they checked the warranty from the IMEI number and sent me a prepaid shipping label so it looks like they'll accept it.
Mine still had the Qualcomm bootloader when I sent it so I'm not sure if they'll actually repair it, but since yours doesn't boot at all, I'm guessing they'll just flash back to stock without even checking to see if you rooted it or anything. They are supposed to be getting mine on Monday, so I guess I'll post back if they refuse to repair it because the bootloader is modified or because I'm not the original owner.

Anyone know a place that can jtag my hard bricked LG V10 (H901)?

Hey y'all!
Well I finally did it. I had tons of time on my hands and decided to screw around with my phone. After days of tweaking and messing around I managed to delete the wrong files during a factory reset which bricked my phone. Now even with a full battery none of the buttons work, plugging it in does nothing, and it is as they say a brick. Does anyone know of a jtag service that can work on the LG V10? I have checked some sites out, but so far no luck. Really trying to avoid the enormous deductible for a replacement phone (yes I know my warranty is voided).

But really if it truly bricked and nothing turns on it is doubtful they will know why it bricked, you could just claim you were updating from ll to mm via official kdz in download mode and everything went blank

Yeah I thought of that, but my deductible is $175 so I was hoping for a jtag at $50 like I have seen on eBay. I just contacted some of them and one got back to me stating that there has not been a jtag release for the V10 and that most new phones probably wont even get them. At least I have insurance. Last time I mod this soon after an update!

The phone should still be under warranty. Just send it to LG. Although, their repair technician's don't seem to be able to repair jack, so you may still be SOL.

Well when you send it in for warranty they give you a new phone. This is what I have considered doing. Just worried they could tell it was rooted.
