Though i am not an expert android developer but i have found a way to root this phone. I have not yet been able to find custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) for this phone yet.
Anyways the procedure of rooting is given below. I have tested this on my own phone but cannot guarantee that it will work on your phone also. Use it at your own risk and do not blame me if you make your phone a brick or paper weight!
1. Download Mi4i Toolkit from here:

2. Enable Developer Options in the phone (Go to Settings and press version 7 times in "About Phone") and then in Developer Options will appear under setting.
3. In developer options enable USB debugging.
3. Extract the toolkit ZIP wherever you like, but keeping all files in same folder.
4. Download and install drivers from micromax website.
5. Connect your phone to the PC.
6. Run the Start.bat file and select option no.1. The phone will automatically reboot and you will find superuser.apk in app drawer.
Warning>>>> Do not select option no.2 (Custom reovery....) or 5 (Stock recovery......) as the same will brick this device.

EDIT: Just use Framaroot. Simple. No PC required. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276. Just install the App and use one of the exploits.
*You can ignore this* OLD METHOD: (use this if you have a lot of time to waste )
Get "Motochopper, developed by djrbliss" for rooting Motorola devices. It works on most devices running Jelly bean 4.1 and above.

Here's what you need before you Root.
1. Any Phone with MediaTek MTK6589 Processor and Jelly Bean 4.1+
2. Drivers for ADB (connects the pc with the phone through USB Debugging) - there are many sources to get these drivers. If you're running the stock micromax firmware, it's found onboard when you connect the usb. For others running custom firmware, you could download from moulnisky.com. Even windows update might automatically install these drivers for you, but it's time consuming. After you've installed this, proceed to the next step to find out if you've established a proper connection between phone and pc.
3. Connect the phone to PC via USB cable and run the motochopper (run.bat file). press ok. then connect the phone to pc and enable USB debugging from the developer tools. Now the tool should push the exploit and root your phone. if no device is detected, go back to step two and install the correct drivers. if it's done, you're a superuser.
Note: In Android 4.2, Developer Tools will be hidden by default. You'll have to enable it first. For that, Go to Settings > About Phone > Build Number > Tap 7 Times.
Wanna Unroot and go back to Normal user?
SuperSu > Settings > Full Cleanup and Manually Reboot.
Installing Custom Recovery:-
This is a Must-if you have a rooted phone. Install a custom recovery before you start changing any system files. this will come in handy in case you mess up your phone and stuck in bootloop. It is commonly used for installing unofficial firmwares and also for backing up your perfectly working firmware.
To install a Custom Recovery, follow these steps. ( Root permissions needed )
1. Root the phone (refer above).
2. Download Mobileuncle MTK Tools from the Play Store.
. Download a Custom Recovery of your choice and place it on your external SD card without any folders. the recovery image file must have the word recovery in it for the app to detect it. i.e twrprecovery,recovery-twrp,etc.. so whatever sources you get the recovery image from, rename it accordingly.
Clockworkmod and TWRP are the most commonly used custom recoveries. It's up to you to decide which one you're installing. TWRP vs Clockworkmod: Which custom recovery is the best?

3. Now run Mobileuncle Tool. Recovery Update > You'll find the recovery image there. Select and confirm to install. Done.
More info: Backups taken with clockworkmod don't work with twrp. so choose your family wisely.
Re-installing the Stock Recovery:-
If you want to revert to the Stock Recovery at some point due to some reason, HERE is the stock recovery taken from the stock firmware. You can flash it through Mobileuncle just like you flashed custom recovery.
Launching the Phone in Recovery mode:-
Switch off the Phone and wait till it's completely off. Pressing Volume Up + Power will enter the Recovery mode.
Factory Restore:-
Wanna Upgrade to a Newer version of Android ? or Have you just messed up your Phone ? Worry-Not. Here's the solution for all your problems. As the saying goes " A MediaTek Phone can never be Hard-bricked ". It can only be Soft-bricked and then it's easy to resurrect it back from the Dead with SmartPhone Flash Tool.
Here's what you need:
1. Micromax Micromax Canvas HD (I'm not sure if this firmware will work with any variants of this Device.)
2. The Latest Firmware for Micromax Canvas HD: S9201_4.2_MP_F3F8_B1_IN_MMX_14_FLASHER_USER (Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, Released on 18-October-2013)
3. Download the latest version of Smart Phone Flash Tools: Download v3.1312.0.139
4. MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM Port Drivers - (Download) - This is the most important part. If you don't install these drivers, SP Flash Tools will not work.
Note: these aren't the same drivers that comes with the Phone or those Unsigned Drivers provided by many sources. These are signed drivers and works with all versions of Windows (includes 7,8 x64 versions)
How to install: Don't download the first file (it's just an installer). Get the two other files which are the Drivers. Keep them in a folder and extract them. You will have two .inf files. Right click on both of them and install. Simple.
5. After downloading all the required files and installing the drivers, power off your phone completely and remove the USB cable. Now remove the battery from the phone.
6. Extract the zip file containing the micromax firmware to some folder and then run SP Flash Tools. Now select the Scatter-Loading File which is inside the extracted folder named as "MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc". Press Download and connect the USB cable to the phone (without battery). It takes around two minutes to complete. Removing it mid-way will only mess-up the phone. After a Green circle is shown on screen, you can remove the cable and turn on the phone. That's all.
Note: If you're upgrading from Android 4.1 to 4.2, for the first time, You might enter an app called TP Upgrade that will run on the first boot. It's a Nice app. It upgrades your TouchPad drivers to the latest version and will ask for confirmation.but the thing is "DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ON YOUR SCREEN WHILE IT'S THERE (NOT EVEN THE OK BUTTON)". It will start by it's own and completes in around 5 minutes approximately. If you accidentally touch the screen, your TouchPad will stop working. Now, Don't Panic. Welcome to the League. Now remove the battery from the phone and restart. You should see the same TP Upgrade coming up again. Have some snacks and don't do what you did last time. It'll be fine.

I tried pushing the recovery through Adb. but it failed.

Yah.....need to inst CWM recovery as we cant access the stock recovery
this is what I get when I try to install in through terminal emulator.

No. I see what you are talking about. The stock recovery will not work in Canvas HD. Everyone has that problem.

It's not necessary. You should install it only if you love to flash custom ROMs (Customized Android versions) to your phone. You can flash unofficial android versions to your phone with it. It also allows you to make a backup of your stock ROM which you can't with the stock recovery. You should always make a backup of your stock android to make sure you can always reset your phone back to normal whenever something bad happens (that is if you brick your phone trying to install a ROM).
If you only looking for swapping the memory cards, root is more than enough. Look at this Guide for instructions.

Worked like a charm
worked perfectly normal like mentioned. Actually, i had successfully installed CWM, but after installing superuser zip files via CWM my phone got stuck in bootloop mode. Had to restore the stock ROM and then installed CWM again, After that tried your method and it worked. Proud owner if rooted A116 now Thank you for sharing the info!

Problem i have is the stock recovery sucks i cant enter any option by pressing both keys right context menu + back key simultaneously

Ok I am posting a simple tutorial to Root your Canvas HD and flash Custom Recovery without using SP Flash Tool. Sometimes it is very difficult for newbies to get proper driver and correct version of SP flash tool. Some users scared to use SP Flash Tool. So here is the solution.
Requirements:
1. Canvas HD of course
2. Framaroot application
3. Root Checker to check if your device is Rooted or not.
4. CWM v6.0.3.3 OR CWM v6.0.3.0 OR TWRP v2.5.0.0 or TWRP v2.6.3.0 or CWM v6.0.4.0 (Touch Based) or CWM v6.0.4.0
5. MobileUncle MTK Tools v2.9.8
Procedure:
1. Download the Framaroot application form the above link and transfer it to SD card
2. Now go to Settings>Security and put check mark on Unknown Soruces
3. Now use file manager and browse to the location where you have placed Framaroot Application
4. Install it and open it. Now Select "Install SuperSU" and hit Boromir.
5. Now go to Play Store and search for Super User and install it after opening it might ask to update SU.bin, hit yes and then "Normal"
6. Reboot your Device.
7. Check with Root Checker, if your device is rooted or not.
8. If it is rooted, download MobileUncle and install it, remember it require root access to work properly.
9. Now download any custom Recovery i.e. CWM or TWRP from the above link and rename it to recovery.img and place it in the root of SD card.

I don't have Canvas 2 so I cant tell you. Frameroot should work on Canvas 2 as well but not sure about recovery.img.

I did it...
But the phone is not looking the way i should be means all the changes i hade done in the phone are still there and version is 4.1.2 only..

What kind of changes are you talking about? If you are talking about the changes which you have made through Gravity Box and other modules of Xposed framework then you should just uninstall the Xposed Framework.

I would suggest you to go to Service centre only.

The method is very simple and you will have your phone rooted within no time, if you follow my instructions closely.
This method involves the use of a tool called, “Cydia Impactor”. (Yes, it is developed Jay Saurik, the brains behind Cydia).
Before we begin, make sure you have installed all the drivers for your phone.
Step 1 : Connect your XOLO A510S to your pc using the USB cable.
Step 2 : Enable USB Debugging on your XOLO A510S.
Navigate to Settings > Developer Options.
Tick to enable USB debugging.
USB-Debugging-Stock
Step 3: Extract “Impactor_0.9.14.zip” to a suitable location.
Step 4: Execute “Impactor.exe”

Step 5: Click “Start”
Make sure the option “# drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin.su” is chosen.

The application will start the root process and there might be occasional prompts on your handset, allow the installation on your handset.
Step 6: Enjoy your rooted “XOLO A510S”.
P. S. Always remember if you are asked to update the su binary when running the SuperSu app. Always choose the normal installation and not the CWM/TWRP recovery method. It will break your root and no method will be able to give your root back. You will have to flash your complete firmware again and start over.

Step 1 : Connect your XOLO A510S to your pc using the USB cable.
Step 2 : Enable USB Debugging on your XOLO A510S.
Navigate to Settings > Developer Options.
Tick to enable USB debugging.

Step 3: Extract “Impactor_0.9.14.zip” to a suitable location.
Step 4: Execute “Impactor.exe”

Step 5: Click “Start”
Make sure the option “# drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin.su” is chosen.

The application will start the root process and there might be occasional prompts on your handset, allow the installation on your handset.
Step 6: Enjoy your rooted “XOLO A510S”.
P. S. Always remember if you are asked to update the su binary when running the SuperSu app. Always choose the normal installation and not the CWM/TWRP recovery method. It will break your root and no method will be able to give your root back. You will have to flash your complete firmware again and start over.

Hey Rao,
You can use MTK Droid Root and Tools for installing a custom recovery on your Xolo A510S (CWM).
Here you go,

Try vroot ver.1.7.8.8479 from mgyun . Used at your own risk .Worked for me . Good luck !:good:

How to ROOT(only with PC):
1)Install Drivers.
2)Enable USB Debugging in Developer Option and Verify apps over ADB.
3)Connect Micromax A092 in charging mode.
4)Download Root Genius.exe Link:http://www.4shared.com/file/WDgZM98iba/RootGenius_en.html
5)Right click on it and select run as administrator then click on ROOT IT.
6)Don`t press anything on your phone till the phone reboot.
7)There will be KingUser as Root Manager installed in your phone.
(Needs Internet Connection on PC)

There are a lot of tutorials on XDA abt how to root or flash a Custom Recovery on Canvas Xpress 2....
Today I am going to show a nother method.....
STEPS:
1)Download the new Kingroot app from their site by Googling it or by going to the link I'm giving down below.
2)Install the apk......ignore all prompts that will say not to install and proceed
3)Now I have successfully rooted this phone a lot of times with this app on Lollipop and its been successful....this app also roots other stubborn devices too
4)Start the root process.............do not worry..i say do not worry ata ll if your phone reboots....its absolutely fine.....just do this one step when the phone reboots...
If your phone reboots...then after it has restarted...open the multitasking menu and you'll see the kingroot app running in the background.thanks to Lollipop's new feature of keeping tasks even when a phone is rebooted........Now open the app and let it run on mainstream mode....(i.e open it)
5)If it fails.....try again.it has to work..and it will
6)Now when the phone is rooted......install the RAshr app from playstore or from the link im giving....if u go for the link...you have to install apk...
7)You are now nearly done.....
8)I am going to provide you a link to a custom recovery.......here i am using TWRP 3.0.0 which is amazing
9)the file will be called recovery.img.......don't change it.....
10)Select the img file from the app....and flash it.. You're done....
