Bricked Tmobile lg-k7 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
I have a questions and hopefully some one can help me out here. My son has bricked my phone and I believe it is a soft brick... could be wrong. However, I need to find away too unbrick it.
I can get into hard reset with out issues. however with everything I do, I can't get into recovery what's so ever. The phone just hangs at the loading screen. I have talked to my son in order to find out what he did and this is exactly what he told me
He installed king root and attempted to replace-kinguser-with-supersu. However when he installed the application, it asked to reboot the phone. Well he rebooted the phone and now it is stuck at the loading screen and wont go any further than that. He also told me that he did not remove kingroot prior too the reboot. Please help! as I need my phone for work.
I am out of options on what too do. I would post the guide he used but I am limited due too the spamming regulations of the board.

Any one have an idea on how to unsoft brick this phone? I am all out of options as the only two options I have are hard boot and download mode.

According to the good people here on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/qa-metro-pcs-lg-k7-lgms330-t3331678 there is only a paid solution at the moment.
http://lg-firmware-rom.com/download...330-dll-for-lg-up-unbrick-lg-k330-with-lg-up/

if it is a lg k7 k330 (tmo) i followed this guide http://www.repairshopusa.com/phone/lg-k7-k330-unbrick-method/

Thank you for the information. However the lgup application does not recognize my phone. Indicates that the model is "Unknown"
Guess i am out of luck lol

Not uncommon. Sometimes you need to unplug and replug the device back in or close and reopen the program.

Thank you for the information. Does the USB debugging option need to be enabled because if it does, I don't think it is as the my computer does not recognize my device at all. Under computer, it shows as k7. However when I got into the device manager it indicated "LGE Android MTP device".

No. USB Debugging only works while booted into the system or recovery. You must be in Download Mode for the LG Up tool.

At this time, I am really frustrated as nothing is currently working at this time. Possibly because the phone just went under a hard reset. I have changed the port too 41 and ran the flash tool and that was not able too pick up my phone either. Also, I can't seem to get the lgup to work correctly as it's still not working correctly.
I have uninstalled the applications belonging too lg, rebooted and then reinstalled them and I still get the same thing. I have attached screen shots below. lgup does indicate the firmware I need, however I can't get too it lol

If I remember right, you have to make it search for *.kdz otherwise it's looking for .tot files, which is why it's probably not seeing the firmware you need.

Yes you are correct. However the file that I have downloaded from the link below doesn't actually provide you with a kdz file. The file provided you the files that have been extracted from the kdz file, which are the (LGK330.dz) file

Ah, weird. Never worked on an LG that didn't use .tot, .kdz, or .bin files. I guess just search for *.dz and it should load according to the link the other guy put up.

[Q] p769 - softbricked by noob

i finally figured out how to get CWM installed and working, after a couple of months of fighting with it, off and on. so, i guessed that meant i have my bootloader unlocked - "wrong!".
i deleted some thing that wasn't supposed to be deleted, then the damned cell network and lan network stopped working (keeps saying com.android.phone has stopped). so i was going to put cyanogenmod on it, because i thought that i could, and just be done with the whole "missing apps" crap. it turns out "just because you CAN put CM on it doesn't mean you CAN put CM on it". i bricked it. i have NO options to "load" or "flash" or "boot" any thing when the phone is booting up. i would love some clarification as to what i CAN do from here.
i would rather install CM and be done with all of this, but i'll take any advice that gets rid of the problem. the biggest problem is understanding how to put CM on your phone, or to do any thing at all like that, when you cant get into any kind of recovery / boot menu, even though you ARE rooted... i don't care if i have to install cyanogenmod or some one else's CWM backup, i just don't know HOW to do it - especially with no windows (only linux). it's a rooted p769v20d (originally p769v10g).
thanks

i was going to try some stuff mentioned in other threads, but i don't have access to a windows computer - and i don't think i need to root my phone again any way, considering it is still rooted.

fwiw, regarding the mysterious deleted app:
i lose my internet signal as soon as it says "com.android.phone has stopped", then i get it back again right before it says that message again - it ALSO shows a cell-phone signal right before that message. this repeats over and over and over every few seconds - aggravating as hell...
here's the apps that i still have installed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45774770

Nice thread title. That is how I am feeling right now with this phone. I feel like calling tech care and yell at them for a bit to vent. Anyway, why not install fastboot for Linux and flash the ics u and x? I uploaded my u and x folder in the Unlock Bootloader for Noobs thread. Then, flash the 20h.....oh, dang.... sorry. Forgot.... no Windows. Maybe do the built-in restore by holding the volume down, home and power keys?

thanks, but i think i finally got it working. i never knew, after all this time, that after you do the l9recoveryinstaller, at the reboot, there are no cues to tell when when to hit some buttons, and it's not clear what buttons to hit. here's what i did, and, so far, its progress:
1: be rooted
2: install busy box, completely
3: install l9recoveryinstaller
4: reboot
5: after you see the LG logo, hold vol-down until you see the flashing lights (i thought you see the flashing lights and THEN you hit vol-down, but i was wrong).
still fighting to get a rooted rom installed ...
if i choose "install zip from external sdcard" is says:
"finding update ... opening update ... installing update ...installation aborted".
if i choose "restore" instead of "install" it will not let me select any thing, it just keeps saying file not found, when i try to select any further options, whether "restore" or "restore from external sdcard" or "advanced restore from external sdcard". and i already checked to make sure the sdcard was mounted...

I think your phone bootloader is locked, you cannot flash any custom rom zip file. It will soft brick your phone.
Please restore P769 CWM back from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136204. Download backup file and unbzip it. Put extract files in your sdcard /clockworkmod/backup/2013-08-30.12.00.00 folder. Extract file should contain several .img, .tar, .a, .log and .md5

i don't have a windows computer. looks like i'm out a 350$ phone. lesson learned. never will cease to be amazed that so many mobile hackers are using windows... seems like they would be linux users too... that would be awesome, because then there are likely to be linux tools to do this with... and i don't have a windows img to load into a virtual machine... lucky lucky lucky...

Well correct me if I am wrong, but I guess you "only" deleted some system files, right? Do you remember which ones were the ones? Or at least the folder they were in? Then you only need to extract that stuff from a kdz/ the bin file and push them on your phone using adb or maybe even the dd command.
Maybe if someone is kind enough, he ll probably provide you with the files you need. And cmiiw, but I guess you deleted stuff from /system/app...

However, i would recommend using a portable windows xp (bootable usb)

It's depend on what method you use. You can flash kdz using offline method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
or use LG mobile support tools from LG website. If you choose this you don't need to download any kdz. It'll download kdz automatically from LG server then flash it on your phone. It take about an hour or two.

thats awesome - i wonder if i can get by with using that on wine on linux, instead of borrowing a windows computer... i'm gonna try it...
well, the verdict is in, on this one: i'm screwed. i've tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried, and i can NOT flash this damned phone. it's BRICKED.
i borrowed / hijacked my brother's computer (windows7), all day. i tried a few different things - i even tried the same way i flashed it to update it ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356536 ), which was worthless to unbrick it.
the problem in every case was that every time the damned flasher got so far along it would "lose the connection to the phone". drivers installed, etc, etc, no difference. i suspect its because i couldnt connect it in all the various modes (mtp ptp etc), since the ONLY way it would connect is in "software upgrade mode".
i had to buy another phone, won't have it till tuesday. lesson learned: NEVER buy a phone that didn't come from samsung... you just can't do what you want with them, without a lot of time, patience, experience, and a windows computer.
thanks for all the help.

Did you try to recover your phone with LG mobile support tool. It can reinstall rom in almost any soft-brick case. Please try it if you haven't try it yet. Many people restore their phone by that software. The steps are
- Download LG mobile support tool from LG web site
- Boot you phone to S/W update mode
- Run Tool and select recover phone
- Wait about 1-2 hours to download and flash
If it's not hardware problem, this should solve your problem

i never found that on their website, and i looked quite a few times. however, i noticed when i used the b2clientsetup.exe that if i run it without running the shttp server first, that it downloads a support tool from the net, which does not work - keeps saying phone lost connection. not sure if its the same tool.

Download from http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/client/app/B2CAppSetup.exe

127.0.0.1 csmgdl.lgmobile.com

yeah, that's exactly what i did, but it would keep "losing the connection to the phone". not sure why, but i suspect it was a driver issue - and i installed the latest drivers, which made no difference. i also went back and installed older drivers, which made no difference. i must just be lucky as hell, or some thing .

In my country (RO) there are some GSM Repair Centers. You should not give up and you should go to them. Par example, I flashed an HTC Mozart when the battery was dead and I bricked it (idiot, I know). I went to a shop like the ones mentioned above and I think he said that he has to flash the phone using a JTAG or something like that (I know that he has to open the phone to reach it's motherboard, solder some **** out there and... flash I guess). The whole thing was about ~20E. Anyway, keep digging, maybe you'll eventually find something that works for you. If not, go to someone who can "force flash" it and maybe you can save the device.

Phone bricked without download mode

Long story short....in my efforts to flash the 10B TOT file, the flash tool got to 94% and started the phone reboot step, but the phone never rebooted thus the flash was a failure. When I tried to re-do the steps to flash the 10B TOT, I found out that I was no longer able to get into download mode. In my computer's device settings, when the phone is connected with a USB it now shows up as Qualcomm HS-USBQloader 9008. I looked up the threads about this problem and started the process of getting this fixed using the BoardDiag tool, but that process fails at the part where I attempt to run the AP and EMMC tests (gives me a message saying "Device was not found in DLOAD trying to install flasher). I have not found any practical fix for this error.
Am I completely screwed now, or is there a step somewhere I'm missing? I've been at this for 5 hours.

Just to make sure I was doing everything right, I installed the Qualcomm drivers with the test mode on for driver signing. My phone, when plugged into the computer, still shows up as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008. So it's my understanding that I don't need to do the steps which detail how I would need to break into my phone and use wires and solder. Based on everything I've read, I should be able to use the BoardDiag tool, but it keeps telling me in one fashion or another that it can't connect to the phone. Sometimes it will tell me "Check PMIC first and if still boot problem, replace AP", other times it will give me the same message I was getting originally saying "Device was not found in DLOAD trying to flash programmer".

I've attached a screenshot of what my BoardDiag screen looks like. I extracted the TOT files that the tool created to my bare C: drive because any time I tried to change the directory for the location of those files it would cause the program to crash.

Ok so when you plug in your phone to the computer does it say installing the qualcomm driver or does it just show up as the qualcomm in device manager. I had that when I bricked my phone and had to redo the wire trick. Once I did it the installing qualcomm drivers notice came up and I was able to run the boarddiag with not problem. If all else fails give the wire trick a try. Here's another similar guide that will help too. I turned off driver signing on computer bootup just for reference. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/guide-fix-hard-brick-recovery-guide-t3132359

The first time I plugged it in after installing the Qualcomm drivers the window popped up to show that the device drivers were being installed and it completed successfully.
I'm trying to reach out to tungkick since I've seen in other threads that he has helped people who have run into the same issues I'm having. I'm hoping he can fix it without me having to crack open my phone.

So the long story is that I was originally running 47A stock with root and TWRP recovery. I was having TERRIBLE battery life and it got to the point where I couldn't take it any more so I decided to flash a CM13 nightly. I was going to test the waters to see if I could use a systemless SuperSU version with CM13 so when I flashed CM13 I also flashed SuperSU 2.68 at the same time. It turns out that's a big no-no. So when I tried to reboot, I got the error message that the secure boot failed, or something to that effect. So after looking at posts on XDA I intended on doing the "revert to 10B from 47A" method with a TOT file and the flash tool. Everything with that was working great...it got to 94% complete and got the point in the process where the phone reboots, but when the phone left download mode it never came back and the flash tool never made a re-connection with the phone to complete the end of the process. From that point on, I could not even load into download mode, thus here I am.

Ok so I used the androidbrick tool in that link you sent me and the process seems to have gone through correctly. After re-installing my battery the phone booted to the LG screen, then showed the little android guy with a progress bar, but that screen didn''t last long before the phone rebooted again and this time after the LG screen I got a screen that said "miniOS" and following that came a blue screen with the words "Factory Reset Status" and a big red number 2. So that's where I'm at now and I'm going to look up info on that to see what I do next. If you have any experience with this step please let me know.
Boot into download mode Volume up and us lg flash tool and tot again. It should say 3 when successful.

Ok, this is where I was earlier today and when it got to about 94% complete and commanded the phone to reboot, the phone never came back to a state that allowed the flash tool to complete. I've seen some sites talk about having to hold the up volume button at a certain juncture around the time that it failed for me last time. Is there some trick to this?

It did it again! Phone got to 100% on the flash and the tool got to the restart command, but the phone never came back on after leaving the download mode from the reboot command. I even was holding the volume up like another website said when the reboot occurred. I also changed the setting from "Upload DL" to "Board DL" as suggested by others in various threads. The error I'm getting after the tool says it failed is "USB port open FAIL!"

Ok, we are back up and running! I went through all the steps again going all the way back to the androidbrick tool. This time when the phone boot into miniOS mode and was still on that animation, I hit the power button (something I saw on another post) and it took me to the AAT screen. I had seen a thread about this somewhere and followed those steps to have the phone reboot into the setup wizard and we are all good now! WHEW! The only thing that sucks is throughout this whole process I've lost well over 100 photos of my son . Oh well....I saved myself a few hundred bucks. Thanks for all of your help!!

I also wanted to add, I use the Mega cloud service app with 50 GB free. I have it configured to automatically back up my pictures and videos whenever I'm connected to WiFi. I save photos and videos to internal storage because it's faster and more reliable than Micro SD cards are.

How long does factory reset take

I tried updating to Marshmallow using the flash tool, but have run into problems. The flash didn't work and my phone won't boot normally or into download mode. I am able to get into recovery mode and have initiated a factory reset. The phone had been on the Verizon screen with the status light flashing green and blue for an hour now.
My question is how long does this process normally take? How long should I let it keep running? The phone is getting pretty hot to the touch.
Shouldn't take more than a minute if that, but not having Download mode I suspect you have a more serious problem than what a factory reset would help with.
What does your phone show up as in Windows' Device Manager in the Port section? LGE... or something else?
After the Boot Mode fails, if I press up on the phone, it is detected as:
Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5)
If it is hanging on the Verizon boot screen, it shows up as:
LGE Mobile for VZW USB Serial Port (COM4)
Google QHSUSB_BULK 9008 mode. You'll find the special instructions to recover, including a different Windows program called BoardDiag and a special driver. You'll need the 10B TOT.
Having trouble doing any of this. I'm not able to find a 10B TOT file that doesn't give me an error when I unzip it, also not passing md5 checks.
My phone is still under warranty, perhaps I should send it in while it still is stuck on the Verizon boot screen? I've never rooted it.

Are you trying to unzip my 10B TOT 7z with a regular zip program or are you using the free 7-Zip, which is different from just regular zip? 7-zip.org is what you need.
Up to you. LG warranty service is awesome, seriously. Just FYI you might get a newer "K" variant VS985 that is impossible to downgrade and root and harder to recover from problems like these on your own than the older variants.
I'm using 7-zip. Figured out my problems and was able to get my phone working with boot mode and eventually loaded the latest KDZ successfully!
The first main clue was that I was getting corrupted zip files from multiple sources. What I originally assumed was a problem with my phone and update methods appears to have actually been a problem with either my ISP or my computer that was causing large (1.5 gigs and up) to be corrupt. I was able to download the files using a different computer on a different connection, bring them over to my main computer, and unzip them without error. They also passed md5 checks.
I believe that what happened was the original KDZ that I downloaded from LG was itself corrupt, which caused all of my issues. I was able to get my phone back into Boot Mode with the 10B TOT files and the willcracker
BoardDiag. After that, I flashed the latest KDZ using the exact same steps that originally soft-bricked my phone, but this time with a KDZ downloaded from your source and verified with a md5 check (which I wasn't able to do when downloading from LG directly).
Everything is working well now and I am very happy with the Marshmallow update.
This just goes to show the importance of md5 checks with this kind of operation. So, download files from sources that provide a md5 checksum value!

I figured I'd post this here to, because I am thinking about getting this phone. It's $99 at metro pcs right now, that's really hard to pass up.
In a twrp+root thread there are some that cannot get root, with the last LG firmware update, so I'm guessing this is a soft brick as apposed to a hard brick.
So, had a question.
If in the case of the like 10% of the people that do this root, the phone won't root or bricks, if I get this phone and and that happens, is it possible to flash the phone via the LG program, with a KDZ file and go back to stock like in this thread? If so I will probably buy this phone tomorrow (crosses fingers the kdz trick will work)
From looking at the videos, it looks as if the LG program is similar to the Samsung Odin program as far as flashing goes, am I correct in this?

I know this thread has not been active for a while. However I have a Metro LG K20 Plus phone and want to change the firmware to T-Mobile. I have not been successful doing this as I always get invalid firmware, because LG UP recognizes the phone as a metro phone. Is there a way to succeed in getting the T-Mobile firmware on the phone?
thanks in advance.

Did you find any answers to this? I have one that is bricked. It will not show up when connected to a computer at all
Virus warning from Avira in Uppercut
lg k20 plus soft bricked?
So I've searched high and low and have tried suggestion after suggestion with no avail. To start things off, I have a soft bricked LG k20 plus. Everything was working fine until the other day when I went to flash a kernel, and when the phone restarted, the screen was a dark grey/black color. I rooted the devices using massis method, removed SU and then rooted using Magisk. Like I said everything was working fine and for whatever reason I decided to try a different kernel. That's when it all went downhill. So now when I turn the phone on, the screen is still blank but it vibrates. When I've connected it to a computer, on my Mac it doesn't show up with ADB or FASTBOOT but in my device tree it comes up as LGE Android device. I borrowed my friends laptop since it runs windows, and my Mac is a dinosaur. ADB doesn't pick it up either, but in a USB hub it says the same thing, LGE Android device and lower down it comes up as TP-LINK. Now tryin to use LG Flash tools doesn't work, LGUP doesn't see my device, and when I tried to extract the KZD file, when I go to select it from the list there is no file to choose. Since I can't see anything on my screen, I can't tell if I'm in download mode, bootloader, etc, but in my device tree sometimes my phone will pop up an bootloader interface and I can use fastboot commands. When I was last able to see my screen, yes, USB debugging was on, I had a recovery, but since I can't see anything on my screen I can't seem to boot into recovery. If I could I would wipe cache and all. I think I may have read too many article and suggestions as to what to do because nothing seems to be working, and don't seem to find anything else related closely enough to my issue. Anyone have a clue as to where I should start? I'll have to give my friend back her laptop soon, and since my mac is so old, and the whole PC vs Mac feud, my computer won't be of much help. Any advice my hair strands would greatly appreciate before they rest are pulled out lol

LG G5 RS988 Hardbricked (Only shows 9008 on Device Manager)

It's been hardbricked for almost a month now. I've looked everywhere on how to unbrick this specific model on XDA but didn't find anything.
I know it's been done for models like the V10, G3, etc.. so I thought there might be some hope from bringing my phone back to life.
I goofed up accidentally installing the wrong ROM for the phone. It had TWRP and all but the phone won't turn on at all.
Does anybody have system dump files for the RS988?

Hello!
When you say that the phone won't turn on at all, do you mean that the LG logo does not appear when you attempt to turn it on? In any case, your phone seems to be recognized by your computer, so download LGUP (with UPPERCUT) and see if they can communicate. You can flash the stock firmware using the .kdz files linked by @autoprime in his All-in-One G5 thread. I believe the firmware made for the RS988 Brightpoint (BPT) variant doesn't have anti-rollback protection, so you'll have the most luck flashing it. Make sure, though, if you go that route, to flash the non-carrier firmware afterwards.

The Logo doesn't appear, after being plugged in to my PC, it just gets a little warm.
As for the LGUP with uppercut, I ran the program and it gives me a message of it saying "no handset connected". It is currently on COM3 in device manager named "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008".

Interesting. This reminds me of APX mode from the NVIDIA Tegra devices.
I think there's a Qualcomm-developed firmware flashing tool that can detect the device via the COM3 port. I cannot recall the name, but if you find it, you should give it a try.
I also have same issue flashed wrong Rom showing qualcomm 9008,complete black screen not even showing charging also,no recovery mode no download mode.is there any solution for it.

I don't know if they exist. You need qfil and whatever firmware parts and edl recovery files. Your fire hose programmer for your chipset.
I've read some guys claim sd card method. But I've never done it on this device
Where you ever able to unbrick the phone?
I am currently experiencing the same issue, the best method that would seem to work so far is through QFIL but I can't find the firehose file.
same problem, any help?
