I have the Motorola e 2nd and need to update my operation system/ - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Republic Wireless and it says my operating system is up to date but im in Lolipop 5.0 and want to upgrade to Marshmallow 6.0 without having to buy a new phone. How can i do this. Please and thank you.
Tony

You can unlock the bootloader, flash the twrp 3.0.2 and install an custom operating system like cyanogenmod 13.
Search an guide on the general section of the moto e 2nd generation.
This threads is for moto e 1st generation

Can you post a link to where i would go? I am new here and still learning to navigate the site.

I also have no idea what bootloader, twrp 3.0.2, and cyanogenmod 13 are? I am trying to install marshmallow 6.0.1.

Steps to Install 5.1.1
Well,
You can install a custom rom....for me worked perfectly a Google AOSP 5.1.1 because is the same Nexus Device Rom.
1st step is unlock your device and is mandatory - We know this process unlock Bootloader-
You can get your unlock code from motorola , there are steps explained in the moto web page
2nd step is flash recovery
This process is put a little Software to reset cache and flash rom from zip file... for me worked fine TWRP
You need copy your rom to the device to be flashed
And the last is flash a logo to remove ugly wearning screen and install Gapps -Software from Google , chrome, maps, drive, andoid play etc....-
That`s all man...

I need a little help

I have rooted a few phones in my past, however never have I rooted a Motorola. (successfully (moto g i know the mistake I made) However I have a Moto E 2nd Generation (Surnia I think) that I am looking to root and get a ROM for it, here is my problem, I have no Idea where to look or begin my phone info is below if you need more info let me know I really want to root it.
Code:
Model Number: Moto E (2nd Generation) With 4G LTE
Hardware SKU: XT1526
Android Version: 5.1
Baseband Version: M8916_2020604.09.03.21.09R SURNIA_ACG_LTE_CUST
Kernal Version: 3.10.49-ga212254-00001-g39fb6a3 [email protected] #1 Fri May 8 16:40:31 CDT 2015
System Version: 23.11.20.surnia_acg_lte.acglte.en.US ntelos
Build Number: LPI23.29-20
Here is what you need to do (I'm only summarizing to get you started -- this is not meant to be a step-by-step guide -- there are good threads here that cover all of this, and you should read them):
1) Unlock the bootloader -- go to Motorola.com, click on the Developers link and follow the instructions (not all phones' bootloaders are unlockable -- Motorola will let you know)
2) Find the TWRP recovery for the Moto E 2015 floating around here ... either run it with fastboot boot twrp.img (my preference) or flash it onto your phone ... then flash SuperSU ... there is a stable 2.46 version that I used -- it is in .zip form and can be flashed with TWRP. (There is a thread which covers all of this in greater detail.)
3) After that, you can pretty much do what you will, since you are now rooted. Personally, with Motorola phones, I'm happy to just use my root capabilities to remove the bloat, as I am fine with the stock ROM. But I'm sure you can find a custom rom to suit your needs.
There are a lot of details you will learn by reading more of the threads.

What are my options for upgrading my OS to Marshmallow?

I'm a complete Android newb. I recently purchased a $40 MOTO E (2nd gen) LTE. I'm on a Sprint MVNO (RingPlus).
My phone is on Android version 5.1.
I read that my North American phone is excluded from any further Android updates (Marshmallow), according to:
- androidcentral.com/moto-e-2015-going-receive-marshmallow-update-after-all-albeit-select-regions
- motorola-blog.blogspot.in/2015/10/marshmallow-and-smore.html
What are my options for upgrading it to 6.0+ on my own? Is this possible?
Keep in mind I'm new to this so I'm not familiar with "rooting" and stuff like that. Any explanations would be very appreciated!
This is a tread for the moto e (1st gen)

Well there is a few options, first you can flash an android 6.0 soaktest from motorola. Or you can flash and install CGM 13 as it already has android 6

Can I install 5.1 on Moto E and add Custom Recovery?

Moto E is $50 at Best Buy right now and all I want to do is to get it and install Blackberry Apps (as instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/port-apks-blackberry-priv-venice-t3244542 )
I noticed there are several Moto E's and some of them are not upgraded to 5.1, and 5.1 is required for BB Apps.
Thanks in advance.
If i'm not wrongm there isn't root for 5.1 yet for Verizon Moto E 2nd. And without root, its very complicated to have recovery, so the answer would be no, you can't.

Update Cricket XT1021 Moto E to Lollipop

Hi,
My wife has a Cricket XT1021 Moto E (sim unlocked/Bootloader UNLOCKABLE). She recently got a new car and would like to connect with Android Auto, but her phone is Kit Kat 4.4.4 and the app only runs on lollipop or higher. She is not interested in upgrading the phone because she likes the size of the Moto E. All the new phones are too large for her liking...even the 5 inch models.
The next option is to upgrade to Lollipop but I'm not entirely sure how to go about it. Checking for updates on the phone (with data & wi-fi) says it has the latest firmware, which I know is not true. I have downloaded the Cricket 5.1 zips from here, but am not sure of the differences between version LPC23 and version LPCS23. I have found instruction to upgrade to the Soak test here:
www. droid views .com/install-android-5-0-2-lollipop-ota-zip-moto-e (remove spaces for link)
Can I just follow those same instructions and simply replace the soak test zip with one of the versions I downloaded? I am fairly confident that will work I am just not clear which zip to use.
I appreciate your advice. I have rooted and flashed all my phones, but hers...I cannot screw up for obvious reasons.
