Why does Pokémon GO not work on our devices? - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have setup 20 or so different phones and tablets for others in the past week from bottom of the line 2012 phones to s7's and not a single one has problems with this app except for my phone. What gives?
Things I've tried: force GPU rendering, both versions of app, 6.9.0 maps and the latest maps with and without cache. Hell i have even changed roms and kernels. Nothing works.
The only time this app runs on this phone is when I setup a multi-window app on and ran it on half the screen. It works decent at best then.

What have you guys been doing to make it work? I see in the play store reviews for z5c others have the same issues but no one's asked yet.

Mine works fine.
Had to reboot after installation to get GPS to sync properly.

whats your setup? I might go back to lollipop to give it a go. I did a quick google and z3 compact owners are also affected by this so its something with the ui for sure.

works fine here also! Im on latest marshmallow

Stock 6.0.1 running the 224 build. Have not gotten the newest update for some reason. Checked just a few minutes ago.
Might make a difference of where my phone is from... IIRC it is Singapore.

I have this game on my phone and have no issues at all. I'm running marshmallow 6.0.1 with 224 build

Are any of y'all rooted? I've setup a root cloak but that didn't change anything either.

Works fine for me. Stock Lollipop here.

In what way doesn't it work for you? It just force closes on start? Are you using the latest Pokémon Go version, 0.29.2? It starts up and plays just fine on my Z5C with XPower v3.0 (.224) and AndroPlus kernel v33. Rooted, all apps up-to-date.

I've got the exact same setup as you. Hmm
The games animations are so sluggish that it's unresponsive or very late to responses. It appears to be running at just a few fps. When hitting up a pokestop the game will take up to 30 seconds to zoom in and pop it up, then making it spin is even more fun. Scrolling down the Pokémon list is impossible because it glitches from the scroll animations and will just click wherever you started scrolling from. When at a Pokemon page to try and scroll to transfer it the pages will not move one bit. Then the pokedex doesn't work either. I've found a lot of videos on YouTube for that glitch. All seem to be z compacts and moto gs.
I'll keep messing around with it eventually. Ive downgraded back to my s4 mini because this phone has bad nothing but problems with every update sony puts out :\
Edit: I've uploaded a screen grab of some gameplay on the next page

I got it to load battles and stops a bit better. Still not functional though. I set the resolution of the app to 320x480. I uploaded a screen grab of me going though some menus to show what's going on. I'll be forwarding this issue up to niantic as well for the other z5c owners having issues.

Have the same issues. Had it on rooted .224, Xpower 3.0 (both kernels) and now also on cm13. Though the cm13 gave me a slight performance improvement (when things are going well) but most of the time the problem starts like 5 seconds after the maps are loaded. Didn't try caching the maps or other versions of gmaps.
Did try all kinds of tweaks with kernel audiator, but only made things worse.
For some reason, the problem sometimes doesn't occur for hours before it does again.
rebooting, clearing cache, closing the app then rebooting, force reboot.... all fail to solve the issue.

yeah i made it the whole first three days after launch not realizing it was bad because servers were so spotty. I dont really know what else to try though. Ive switched to my backup phone and probably will be selling my z5c, ive really missed my old phone and spending this much time with it will only make me more attached again lol

works fine last build (stock not rooted) apk ver 29.2

hello, i have the exact same problem!! After some time, the app becomes unusable.
Sluggish, lagging fps when opening pokemon menu, when going around .... and it seems it's phone-software related not server related (it's slow in rendering graphics, not "lagging").
Did you find a solution?
I'm still on MM 6.0 .185, using AndroPlus kernel v30. Developer settings > running server -> pokemon using 460 mb RAM !
How much ram does it suck on your phone, guys?
EDIT: might it be related to root apps/xposed? Did you try on stock with just root?
Where are other threads reporting this issue?
i'm also thinking about CPU downclocking because of heat, as the phone gets hot, and here is summer. However, even with throttling the game should still run well.
EDIT: If you have time, please analyze which can be the cause, as other people seems to have no problems with similar configuration and this is strange. Unfortunately at the moment i have no time to reset the phone and try.
Also thanks for reporting it to Niantic.

I thought I had it going good, but then I visited central park and game couldn't even load the map let alone the stops lol I've given up hope on this phone.
If you search around Reddit there are quite a few threads on it.

Found the cause: too aggressive CPU throttling by Sony. CPU/GPU frequency/cores reduced excessively.
Solution: edit the thermal-engine.conf inside system/etc as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/tweak-improve-performance-reduce-t3387879
Do not simply replace the stock file with the modded file you can found there, because on Z5C things are different.
Personally i created a file where:
- i've edited only the first two sections [msm_therm__0.DEFAULT] and [msm_therm__1.DEFAULT]
- increased the temperature's thresholds (about +5C°) that trigger CPU/GPU/cell.. power reduction
- in 0.DEFAULT section : for the lowest thresholds (i reduced the number of thresholds like in the topic above) , i applied the reductions (cpu frequency reduction, cpu switchoff,...) taken from the modded file from the topic above, and tweaked the battery value to make it more similar to the stock values (it should regulate the maximum current if you are charging a hot device)
- in 1.DEFAULT section: i kept the reductions applied by the stock thermal-engine (and just tweaked small cluster freq). I edited temp values (about +5C°).
It's a beta configuration for me, as I will need to test more configurations (ex. choose GPU reduction before CPU, immediately reduce big cluster cpu values,...) but for now it works for me.
No more sluggish-lagging-slow fps animations, Pokemon go completely smooth! Obviously phone a bit hotter.
I'm attaching this personal modded file, if you want you can use it but i take no responsibility for it.
If you want to compare the differences between stock and modded, use a program like WinMerge.
Thanks @RyTekk for his contribution regarding thermal management in Z5 line
EDIT: tweaked thermal-engine a bit more, lower big cluster frequencies

Most of us here are running androplus kernel and not a Sony kernel. I am not all that keen on messing around with temperature Threshold's as I've has this phone up to 170*f a few times and it's not pleasant at all. I've had a few instances where the app worked just fine for a few hours then the next time I pull it up itsback to being crappy again. Someone else may want to give this a go though.

Device: i605 (Verizon Note 2)
Hey all! I am here to bring you the latest version of AOSPA-Legacy to the Verizon Galaxy Note 2! This is always compiled from the latest AOSPA-Legacy sources compiled with the CyanogenMod kernel. I have added some new features to the AOSPA source, but there are no extra apps in the final build.
NOTICE:
This is an unofficial build that I made for myself that I am sharing with all of you. I have a set use for my phone and therefore cannot test everything. Because of this, your warranty is now void. I am not responsible for any damages this ROM does to your phone, but just know I only upload after testing on my phone. Results may vary. Also, this ROM will be updated when I get around to it. I do not have the infrastructure to build nightlies on this computer (it's a laptop btw), and will only update to add new features/fix bugs, maybe weeklies, haven't decided yet. Perhaps I could become this device's new maintainer since everyone seems to be gone, but I'll get to this later.
Without further hesitation, let's get to it!
INSTRUCTIONS:
MAKE SURE YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED!!
Reboot into either the latest TWRP/Philz Recovery
Wipe Data, Caches, etc.
Install this Rom (Download Below)
Install PA-Gapps
Wipe caches again (eh, why not?)
Reboot
???
PROFIT!

Experimental Build! (Should still stable, just need some feedback on these 2 new features) -> Download
Added Dynamic System Bars!!! (You'll find this under Settings->Display)
Added Mobile Network Battery Saver Mode(Automatically switches to 2G Network after the screen is for 30 seconds [unless a music streaming service is active] and sets it back to 3G/4G when the screen is turned on!)
11/19/2014
Added a swipe to switch between Quick Settings and Notifications
Added Quiet Hours
COMING SOON!
The new Card-Based Recent Apps
Gerrit is down but being fixed, so I am not able to cherrypick these two items. Hopefully PA can resolve this soon and they will be added.
GOOGLE CHROME UPDATE: There seems to be an issue with the latest build of Google Chrome (v39) where the app will always start in floating mode. To return to full screen Chrome, clear app data after updating from the Play Store and every time you open Chrome pull up the Recents Menu (default is long press home button) and select Chrome again. It will now be full screen. This seems to be an issue for all of AOSPA.
Another fix is to stay on Chrome v38 and not update. Link To apk
Weird issue after installing
Not sure if it is related to this ROM or not but I had not encountered this previously under any other ROM. Installed this last night - wiped everything with all the normal steps. Also installed the latest PA GAPPS (the link in the first post - installed the Full version). Restored most of my apps with TB and everything went as normal. This morning, the phone, while just sitting on my desk, made a noise (maybe like I got a notification). I picked it up and it was pretty much loading and displaying things from different apps and videos on my phone without any input from me. I could not get it to respond to any button presses and was even having issues trying to power it down until I just pulled the battery. I re-loaded one of my backups from another ROM and everything appears to be back as it was and I've not experienced the same issue at this point. Can't say 100% it was this ROM but thought it better to at least note it.

Hmmm...That is a very strange issue indeed! Did you install a custom kernel? Were you running any Xposed Modules? Would you be willing to try this ROM again and report if it happens again? Thanks!

I did not install an alternate kernel- usually I find it pays to stick with the one that came with any ROM I install. AGNi kernel always seemed to give me one problem or another. But I digress. I might try to install again to see if I can replicate but it was a little disconcerting as it looked like it was opening apps and displaying data I had entered - almost like some sort of bot. Don't keep much on the phone of a personal nature and it is no longer a work phone since I retired this summer - mostly a toy of sorts so I just try the various ROMs out there.
Won't get to it tonight but i'll let you know when I re-install.

Sorry - didn't answer your other question. I did install Xposed installer. Only active module I used was Gravity and changed the battery icon and lockscreen background. I also have Greenify and Wanam Kit active but did not actually use either one to modify anything.

Really didn't mean to imply or suggest you did - I was more amazed on what I experienced and was hoping maybe someone else might have some explanation. I think I have installed every Note II ROM that has been out there since I got the phone 2 years ago so I'm not shy in regards to flashing new ones. I appreciate the effort all you developers put into this so again no blame intended.

Don't worry about it! I didn't mean to come off as so defensive, I was simply trying to stamp out anymore thoughts of there being a bot.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks for adding me to the thanks list. I really appreciate it. Will try out soon. Thanks for this.
Reflashed ROM - No repeat
I did reinstall the ROM last night since I wanted to try to replicate the overall process I followed and I wanted it to sit overnight. I got thru this afternoon without the same problem occurring. I did not activate the Xposed framework so none of the modules were active either. Other than that I re-installed basically all the apps I had installed the initial flash. All went well although I did have the SMS "unable to send issue" happen (it seems to happen every so often after I reflash a new ROM - doesn't seem to be ROM specific) so I ended up following the usual process as outlined by DreamFX and restoring a different ROM. I have consistently found the Unofficial Aokp ROM by apophis9283 to be the most stable ROM for me - I'll try yours again when the next release is out there.

Although I'm still on cyanogenmod, it's good to see there's continued development on our device. Great job Dev

I'm on Carbon rom until I try yours this weekend. Of course it does this for me and is annoying as hell. It appears to have something to do with all kitkat aosp roms compabilty. My brother is lucky enough to have lollipop and it's not doing this on lollipop.

I'm really hoping this rom doesn't have that ok Google crackle that plagues most aosp roms for our device.

Unfortunately the Google Now activate tone does "crackle" on this ROM, however when it talks or makes any other sounds it's clear.

Darn that stinks. Thank for confirming.
I am going to try this ROM out. I will let you know if I have any issues. Thank you for giving is another choice.
Thanks for bringing this up for us, very exciting.
I know this is just getting started, the top features I am hoping to see are:
Quiet hours
Profiles
Long press back button to kill
1px battery bar
swipe between notifications/quick settings
Just my wish list for the cherry picks, but everything seems smooth so far!

[Discussion]Best setup for lg g2 mini d620

I bought this phone 6-7 months ago and i have been messing around with it since then. Here are my experiences with it.
LOLLIPOP:
Currently i couldnt get Lollipop to work well no matter what tweaks and fixes i did. This includes memory leak fixes,Wakelock fixes and scripts. From all the lollipop roms i found resurection Remix to be the best in terms of functionality.NOTE:the time i used cm12 there was only invaderJohns kernel,so i havent used it with nikita's kernel.
also LTE was a ***** to toggle
STOCK
Battery life and stability with stock rom (kinda tweaked a lot)is unbeatable.I've been using it for the most time of them all and it just cant be beaten(With the help of tweaks from 3c Toolbox(AKA android TUNER)and after i uninstalled some bloatware it needs about 13 hours to lose 1% of its battery when i dont use it.
ALSO IR works, the only donwside i could find in stock rom is high ram usage and high battery usage when using mobile data.
stock touch sensitivity is awful too.
4.4.x
All testing has been done using nikita's v3.1 kernel.
CM11 works well.No memory leaks,no random wakes no bull****.Vibration appears to be working but camera has overexposure issues.WHICH you can fix by replacing this libs files in /system/vendor/lib and change permission to 644 and reboot https://www.dropbox.com/s/3d88k0p12iklgop/camera_fix_libs.zip?dl=0 provided by AntonPanos
Currently im using CPA which works best for me.Everything appears to be working correctly except IR which is something to be expected(havent even tested it though). Also camera works perfectly, video though has exposure issues (using camera that comes with rom)which can be fixed if you change to the same video resolution once you want to start recording.IMO this rom is made for the ones that are looking for superior multitasking and simpleness. Its fast, pretty, and lag free.
I installed mortal kombat X btw and it well.
Other roms i havent yet tried cause i find no reason to.(miui v5 appears to have bugs)(PA 4.6 and pac rom might be worth the try).
Also for anyone that has tried or wants to try the PTT(partition tool table)for d620
Be aware that i was using the TWRP 2.8.6 recovery.
Once i used PTT with OPTIMAL setting i let it do its job, then it reboots(at that point is stucks at lg logo as it should).I reboot it using the harware key and it enters recovery.
IF YOU install a rom right away and try to boot the phone you got it soft bricked. For some reason you cant enter recovery using volume down and power button and phone will get stuck at boot animation. Then the only way i found to get it fixed is entering download mode and flashing stock using lg flash tool 2014.
YOU must first format both cache, data AND SYSTEM(do dalvik too wont hurt) partitions VIA twrp before flashing a rom.
This is just me though so if anyone got any experiences of his own pls share!:good:
EDITED:forgot to add System and dalvik partitions formatting if you use PTT.Sorry!
IMPORTANT:using CPA atm and found out that during calls phone's microphone(headset's microphone works fine)transmits a buzzing sound sometimes. Also my voice sounds a lot deeper and kinda poor quality.
EDIT:MANAGED to find what is wrong.I did clean install with just nikitas kernel and play store->all was good till i installed faux controls
Do not install FAUX CONTROLS ON CPA cause its gonna break the mic.I got to find a different way to push more power on my headphones now if anyones knows how plz share.
Do can cpa be used like a day to day rom? I want to unlock bootloader and flash that rom bcuz of the high ram usage on stock..can you tell me how much free ram you get with facebook and fb messenger opened? Or after you reboot the phone how much ram u get

Im using cpa as a daily driver with nikitas kernel v3.1.
It is rock solid with zero reboots.(quickremote doesnt work due to kernel and video capture can be a little tricky).
i get 500mb free ram when phone is clean and about 400 when i havent cleared recents. If i multitask (music, internet, pdfs,)nothing shuts down and phone keeps on running smooth with about 200-250 mb left.
I just installed facebook to check(everything open:Browser,camera,facebook,fb messenger,music).
I get 350 mb free,no lags during transition.
CPA also has expanded desktop mode which allows you hide status and navigation bar.It is rly good for facebook and internet browsing.
Also omniswitch and pie navigation makes it rly easy to work with the phone.
edit:http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
im using cm11 small gapps because i didnt want the google play(books, games, music etc)bloatware.
Wow that s amazing.. I think i m gonna install it too. Thanks for the info

That's cool. I have tried Stock, CM12, Pacman and Resurrection Remix. RR was the best of them. I have better battery on the CM12 based ROMs than on Stock, which might be due to mobile data sucking battery as you described.
CM11 was not an option for me without working vibration, but with Nikita's Kernel I might try that. I didn't really have CPA on my radar, but I might try it.
I don't even know how you get such crazy good battery life. I can't get lower than 1.4%/h on any ROM i tried. (I lose ~8-9% over night) and I don't have any apps that generate Wakelocks besides Whatsapp (yeah major battery sucker), Gmail, 2 other e-mail accounts and IFTTT.

All testing has been done using nikita's v3.1 kernel.
CM11 works well.No memory leaks,no random wakes no bull****.Vibration appears to be working but camera has overexposure issues.

So you use Nikita's Kernel on CPA as well?
And do you suggest using SuperSU instead of the built in SUManager. Do you use Kernel Auditor instead of the built in Performance settings?
What is "CPA" guys?

I would strongly recommend formatting Cache,Dalvik Cache, data AND system before flashing.
Especially when going from 4.4 to 5.0 or from full stock to full custom.
I personally found most of the problems i was facing after a new flash resolved when flashed again and wiped system.
Very good post though.

cm11 and cpa that ive tried are close to my stock idle power usage records.CM12 was horrible no matter what i did. 1.3%per hour with all the tweaks. But battery usage was kinda better with data on.Havent got the chance to test on cm11 etc.
Also i do use nikita's kernel on cpa and built in SUManager even if outdated has not given me any issues so i didn't bother.
kernel adiutor is a handy app that should be on the phone.Although i use built in performance settings, faux sound controls for kernel audio boost.I also think CPA comes with Viper4android and MusicFX which i disabled both.(i might turn viper for android on cause i love it).You must use faux sound controls if you want to change headphones, phone mic, speaker gain.

I have another question. Which gapps do you use for CM11 and CPA?
I used the PA Gapps 4.4.x Pico or Nano and shortly after i boot up on CPA "Google play Services stopped working". I don't know how much this affects my system, but some push notifications seem to be delayed (though that could be some other setting's fault)
I denied "Google Play Services" & "Google Play Services Framework" keep awake in AppOpsXposed and disabled some Google Play Services :
Code:
AnalyticsService
FeedbackService
AdRequestBrokerService
FusedProviderService
GeofenceProviderService
negotiationService
WatchdogService
WearableService
I use this guide to further improve my battery life: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884
I removed limitations some alarms in Amplify though to see if those were delaying push notifications or if setting minimium CPU frequency to 182MHz caused this.

http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps i use the "small" pack and have disabled hangouts, google text to speech, gmail, talkback, browser.(just to free some ram, also am using greenify to freeze some of the apps i have downloaded separately in case they cause wakelocks).
I dont think you have to push it that far cause i havent and phone is rock solid.
"Google play Services stopped working"that happens probably due to some of the services you disabled or permissions you denied i had the same issue on cm12.
I have done only the above i stated and the phone just never wakes up due to some google app.
The only issue im having currently is mic quality during calls.(i think it uses camcorders mic and it gets screwed up).
Do note that if you get low power into your headphones or you want to boost the speaker sound a bit the right way to do it is download faux control and tweak some of the setting on first tab(second tab i found useless.)/

Pokemon Go Performance Issues - Overheating causing reduced Frame Rate & Crashing

I'll start off by saying I basically bought the surnia Moto E 2015 (xt1526) specifically for an affordable way to play Pokemon Go. When it's working it works quite well but when in very high particle effect situations such as Battling or Evolving Pokemon it will start to get very hot and then eventually the frame rate will drop and sometimes the app will crash. I've tried a few different ROMs (Cyanogenmod 13, ResurrectionRemix, Cypher) and all seem to have the same issue. The only Kernel I've tried so far are stock and Squid Kernel.
That being said though I've had some experience tweaking and trying to optimize phones for normal app and multitasking usage but I've no experience at all trying to optimize for gaming. If anyone has gotten this particular phone to run optimally without crashes etc while gaming would you kindly suggest the Kernel, Roms and/or settings I should use for doing so? I've seen that were some good gaming ROM's for otus but those seem to have not been brought over to the surnia.
TLDR: surnia xt1526 overheats plummets in FPS and crashes while battling in Pokemon Go, any help appreciated
Update: After trying many different suggestions though I'm sure they did help out others they did not work for me. My phone's GPU was overheating up to 62 degrees sometimes in particular while many people seemed to be tweaking their CPU's mine was still overheating and crashing with those tweaks.
So this is probably a YMMV thing but what finally worked for me was installing a kernel that had some good GPU tweaks and the one I found best so far has been Inazuma R5 it actually has the GPU's lowest setting underclocked to 100mhz, with 400mhz still being the max and also makes use of adreno idler to keep the GPU cooler.
So if you've been having these issues I'd suggest opening up Kernel Adiutor after your phone starts crashing and overheating and taking note of the temperatures. If it's your GPU look for a kernel with adreno idler. If it's CPU then you can go with some of the other suggestions below.
Edit: I want to be clear that this is mainly only a problem with BATTLE after 30-60 consecutive minutes in Pokemon Go (sometimes also with mass evolution because of the heavy animation effects during evolution) So please specify, if you could, whether or not you've had a stable battling experience for extended periods of time.
Ive been using CM13 and squid kernel r16g and had been experiencing lags in pokemon go until i tried out some settings in kernel auditor. In kernel auditor under the tab low memory killer scroll down and select 'very light' and disable adaptive low memory killer(the first option in the 'low memory killer' tab) and now switch the tab to 'virtual memory' and scroll down to the last option and set the memory limit to around 460-480mb. Now under the tab 'cpu-plug' disable the intelliplug switch and there will be an option called as touch to boost, you just gotta enable that(this option is a major player in making the game to perform well). So just try this and see if this works, it worked very well for, i hope it does the same for you.
P.S. This may cause your battery to drain more as you set ur phone to perform more, So after you finish playing the game set it to default.

A friend of mine tried playing this on stock ROM, frame drops lags and crashes all the way.
Havent quite used the stock rom lately....just been flashing roms quite frequently, so can't really say abt the performance of this game in stock And yes, a must try ROM recommendation for all you guys, playing pokemon go, wud be slim rom. Flashed Slim rom yesterday and found it to be light weighted ROM compared to many other roms n that too without a custom kernel. I tried playing pokemon go while in Slim and it worked just fine without lags or crashes. The only thing is that Slim is based on AOSP/CAF so features r limited unlike other roms.
it works fine on mine phone with stock 6.0 and squid kernel, I think that your lags are caused by ram hungry apps in background
ive bought three boost phones in the last couple of weeks just for spoofing devices, all running perfect. I pushed twrp 3.0.2, official cm13, and that's it.

I don't know I'm not really running much in the background just Gmail and Telegram, as I'm playing more and more it seems like it starts to overheat then starts lagging after doing battles for about 20mins straight. I have to put it in front of a fan and let it cool off before I can do battles again. So I think it's just a hardware issue. Unless anyone else has been able to do battles for more than 30mins without running in to lag and crashing

Honor 5x very laggy

Hello,
My HOnor 5x has been very laggy. I have a tasker task setup to launch Pandora each time I launch Maps. The phone responds very slowly. There are several other apps too where the phone is very very laggy. I have set it up in performance mode but it is still very slow. Anything else I can do about this other than getting a Oneplus 3?
Have you tried a reboot? Oneplus 3 is a High End phone 5x a Mid End with a Low End CPU..

My own Honor 5X is noticably laggy, more so since installing Marshmallow 6.0.1 (also rooted) but not ready to revert back to Lollipop just yet until first completely combing thru every item (or tweak) i might have missed.
The lag i experience is not always persistent just occasional but more often at different stages of usage.
My old HAM 2 with the JellyBelly Android is super snappy in comparison but then the HAM 2 also sports a most formidable powerpack in the battery rating. That battery alone is almost the size of this Honor 5X and is still quite the workhorse.
But i'm determined to maximize Honor 5X (Marshmallow) to it's absolute fullest!

Cool. Is everything working in CM13?
- Is vibrator intensity adjustable? (The stock vibration is so weak compared to my Moto E)
- Fingerprint reader
- External storage? (SD support in CM13 on other devices is very bad)
- Yes (with build 20160726 and newer).
- Yes.
- Yes, even adoptable storage is working.
EMUI is laggy, and probably always will be. As long as you're using a Stock ROM, this will be an issue.
Cm13 with FP working is best thing ever on Honor 5X. NO Lag at all! Totally different phone now. Music is better. Ringtones and notifications. This is not my opinion. Its a fact.lol.

Hello salilsurendran;67891416,
Thank you for choosing the Honor 5X. We're terribly sorry that your 5X is lagging. What we can advise is shutting off your 5X for 15-20 seconds and then turning it back on. This should refresh your device. Also, if you go into your "Settings" and type in "cache" in the "Search for setting", a tab for "cache data" should pop up. Click it and then go into "Storage cleaner". The program will run and after it's completed, your device should run smoother. If these tips don't help, please give our Honor Support Team a call at 1-844-524-6667 so we can provide further assistance. Thanks for your interest. We appreciate you.(ED)

When I decided to go stock on this device, I initially used a TWRP image from here somewhere... to go from custom ROM that shall not be spoken of, to stock EMUI M.
It was laggy as all hell.
So, I reverted back to my previous custom ROM using a TWRP backup.
When I decided to try again, I used the DLOAD folder and UPDATE.APP method.
I am still running stock EMUI M. Doing it this way, I have nearly zero lag (on occasion, it happens regardless as to the device in use), and all features are working at least as good as on L.
My suggestion is to start all over again if M is laggy on your Honor 5x. You may have missed a wipe, your SD card could have old files interfering... the list goes on and on...
When in doubt, start all over again.
Ok i'm rooted now and all that Jazz (Thank You Huawei Home for unlock code) plus it went off without so much as a hitch installing TWRP (Very Useful Backups) and SuperSU "AFTER" first doing a easy peasey dload UPDATE.APP to Android Marshmallow!
I ripped the lag out by doing the basics like Huawei_Eric suggests with clearing out via Phone Manager but more importantly using PURITY that although it runs as a process it keeps tabs on apps that might be pulling more than they should which can cause lag.
So now this Huawei Honor 5X is running and here is/was my order of things ok?
(1) Updated perfectly to Marshamallow via UPLOAD.APP
"Discovered some lag after MM update but eventually smoothed out".
(2) Obtained the required device bootloadercode from Huawei Home courtesy their code unlock page
(3) Did the adb routine to unlock bootloader and installed TWRP + SuperSU and made a first backup.
*Of Note* Microsoft Windows 8, 8.1, etc. caused and causes a lot of people problems with getting Android Drivers properly installed and here is one HUGE PROBLEM that can cause you drivers not to take even when you have the right ones!!
Check under your Windows Services and RESTART THESE SERVICES to "Running" in order for your Android Composite and/or other android drivers to install as expected.
(1) Device Install Service
(2) Device Setup Manager
(3) System Events Broker
Even after installing the android drivers and my system recognizing my Honor 5X and/or MT2-L03 the next time i tried to do routine browsing of Internal/SD Card in Windows 8.0 i found the Exclamation back under Device Manager and MTP/android device. Seems we have to SET THOSE SERVICES TO AUTOMATIC and make sure they are ALL RUNNING.
Now on the Windows 8.1 laptops i use they do stay put the first time after INSTALL so i'm just sharing this as a help in case you also run into this SILLY MICROSOFT issue only.
It's not YOU, it's not those android drivers for your DEVICE, and it's not your system, it's MICROSOFT's little quirky ordeal. I actually surfed for days for a solution to this issue and guess where i evetually found it at? In a Microsoft issue's forum. Duh.
Some replies to members who can't seem to get their drivers installed so they can use adb as intended or even to just BROWSE their Smartphone's Storage(s) was suggested to do a System Restore etc. which won't work anyway if those above SERVICES aren't running at the time you're doing a UPDATE DRIVER and even pointing to the exact DRIVER FOLDERS for your android/device.
Hope this helps a little for someone who had no idea why the heck they can't get their computer to recognize their device, update their appropriate android/MPT drivers etc.
emui is very laggy and Awful. just try cm13 and ur phone will be superb!

Thank You HonorUSA_Eric.
Hopefully that helps OP's lag issue also but allow me to say it would been nice if Huawei could have stuffed a 4000mah Mate-type monster batter in Honor 5X too.
Wishful thinking i know but my MATE 2 gets unheard of battery life and after 2 years of ALWAYS ON usage too!
How about making a 5-6000maH battery while you guys are at it?
You have the USB OTG , and the gyroscope working (only emulation for this one, the 5X lacks the hardware) and FM radio sound can be sent via Bluetooth. They won't works on stock ROM (software limitation except for gyro).
Also, CM13 have much more configurations options, which is great, and the UI is better to my eyes.
Battery life is also really great.
But you should try yourself.
For CM13 do I need to upgrade my phone to Marshmellow? Thanks

So, I'm on mp6, android 9 - bootloader unlocked and rooted, if I update to Android 10, I know I will lose root access and everything, but the bootloader will lock again? That hurts, can you inform me fully, if possible, how to unlock the bootloader on the android 10, if it's too difficult to do then I'm probably not going to update
I am suffering with this, the miui 11 is very bad with advertisements, I am sorry for the upgrade and I do not advise ... I sent a message to the official BS2 forum and they do not have support yet ... the most funny and that the OEM option, it is enabled even without logging into the mi account. but the system does not accept the downgrade.

Agreed, I hated it the moment I saw it.
I was sooo stupid, just looked up a few news pages and they all said it was great. I didn't even looked at the look and feel of it. It is full of bloatware and I think performance wise it is much worse. It surely does look sleek but at a huge resource drain. RAM is being used God knows where and the battery... Fully charged before bed, by 1Pm the next day it was at %50. And nope, I didn't use it.
I don't want an iPhone.

it seems that to download you need to pay for the links, to make it worse miui 11 in addition to draining battery, it's getting very hot ...
You should follow these:

I downloaded the MP3 and put it in ota folder, used the code and I am back on Android 9. All my settings were saved in Google and they were restored, but for whatever reason because they were JoyUI 11 (Android 10), they messed up my phone, kept getting funny errors, so I just did a factory reset and didn't chose to use Google phone transfer.
The main error I ran into was DF-DFERH-01 on the play store.
I will need to reinstall everything and see if I can manually move all my data and obb folders (I made sure to backup everything).
Debating if I should upgrade to MP6 now.
P.S. joyui11 was getting worse and worse. I had the shark cooler on and it keep being at high speed, it never went down, only to find out that my phone was running hot. Talk about a very very bad update.

You say this as if no one can pull out a ROM on XDA. You say the phone is very hot, but my phone doesn't heat up because I use wi-fi for network games, and the swappiness my 12/256 device seems to have a much longer time frame than on your device. I have all the big games installed and they work with maximum graphics.

You say that when upgrading the ROM version you had problems overwriting dalvik. But Android is constantly in development throughout my life, and make wipe data/cache/dalvik this is already happening purely for aesthetics. Yes, I've read some comments about how many devices have lost performance after the update. So much so that the device has problems coming out of a long sleep and turning on the speakers. But I have no such problems. I don't know how long it will be in development, but I haven't seen than Android yet, in good condition, it's always been like this, one-legged and crooked.
Me at all on retro phone pulled, I ordered a Nokia 6600.
By the way, for some reason in the BS2+ section I did not meet posts with the code *#*#4636#*#*, does no one need it anymore. Having received the Dual 4G mode, we somehow forgot about it, but in vain.

I think you getting the wrong information or maybe you quoted the wrong post
The reason I didn't like the new update was because it was full of bloatware that I could not disable. The fact that just trying to use Calculator and set-up my Alarm required Location Services and Internet location or else they would not start (this is just 2 of the apps).
The fact that it delete a whole bunch of applications which were not compatible. Didn't even leave the app data which sucked as I lost months of gaming.
The fact that it was eating up RAM like crazy, yet the phone was running smoothly, no problems there.
The fact that it was running hot yet you wouldn't see that unless running Shark Cooler.
Now I will say that my phone always runs all games on the highest graphical settings. Actually choosing lower settings and 30fps would make games run really sluggish.
The images you posted actually look pretty crap I have a few games like RAID and Saint Seiya which look amazing.
My phone was purchased to be a mobile platform, the games are just extras to keep me busy on the go.
At home I game on my PC or Console, not my phone. If I want to play mobile games I would download the PC Clients or use an Emulator, my progress will be carried across.
You gotta realise that if you game on your phone, be it on data or WiFi you are radiating yourself pretty damn hard. We wonder why cancer rates are going up...
I rolled back using the method mentioned on these forums and everything was great, but I couldn't use my Google Phone Backup because it was a higher version so I ended up copying the whole phone to my PC.

I've seen people collect their backups over the years and try to get them used to the system. Well, in the screenshots, for example, Doom3 port PC, and this is a script game. Very heavy for Android multitasking. But it works pretty confidently on BS2. The RAM of my device is not yet reached, not for one of them. But not enough of those programs for Android 10, adapted for managing RAM. You are talking about fps, but some programs must manage fps, they must lower the fps forcibly to use for example videos in games.
And this is not a virus, it is a security system with the ability to restrict background processes.

I should have asked if your device is Rooted? If YES then yeah, it would explain why you can manage it better and have control over the bloatware apps installed.
The app mentioned in the screenshot, does that require Root?
I have a Xiaomi MI 9T Pro and it has the same OS on Android 9 which is MIUI 10. So all they did was give us MIUI 10. Also if you read around lots of people downgrade from MIUI 11. Obviously these new updates are not good. If it ain't broke don't fix it:

No, not rooted.
I don't do fix, just use the existing settings.

Antivirus is here:

The equalizer is here:

So what doesn't work like that ?
It is quite suitable for everyday use (at this stage of development).
And people are different.
In any case, the choice is yours, whether to download an update or not for the device is your own decision.

Sorry, I'm new to this stuff. I've tried this but ended up getting the message "The upgrade package does not exist". I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I've made the folder "ota" and put the "update.zip" file inside, click local update and it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? do I have to extract the files?
Device model: SKW_H0
Current Version: SKYW2005101OS01MQ0
P.S. Just extracted the files into the OTA folder, still doesn't work. This time, no message appears.
Hello,
I have a question about upgrade. I'm in SMP5 rooted an I want to go to SMP6. I have OTA update notification, but anytime I tried to update it does not work. It finish downloading the OTA but it does nothing applying it. I have checked uninstalling magisk an with non- patched boot image. Do I need to do anything else? Do I have to lock againg bootloader a critical bootloader?
Thanks

You have to relock the bootloader.
