Pretty small update. Is it just a security update?

And still...my wifi calling doesn't work. I keep hoping an update will fix it, but no...

Probably mainly security updates, but at 47 MB, probably a little more as well. I have a nexus 7 and the pure security updates are 10-13 MB every month. Sprint usually lists more info on their website, but the info on this update hasn't been posted there yet.
UPDATE: Sprint says it's just a security patch:
https://community.sprint.com/baw/message/1050046#1050046

Wouldn't be surprised if it somehow blocks the root exploit. Not sure if that's possible given that it's signed, but not taking it until we get some more info.

anyone know if this security patch patches the root?

Just got this phone today and it auto updated to this version. Id also like to know if the current root method will work still

My standby drain seems much better. Too soon to say for sure. At 39% now. May leave unplugged overnight to see what shakes

tar is up
On sammobile.com:

I installed PG1 and root it. Had a hard time getting around the hands free self activation service. Finally figure that out. The problem i have now is my mobile hotspot icon is gone. I flashed Home CSC in Odin but with no luck.

Got my wifi hotspot back. Unrooted return back to stock and I made sure the Icon was there re-rooted and the icon didn't disappear. Good to go and I'm happy with my phone now I have full control.

so you are rooted with this method and in the latest update PG1 and everything works fine? Tia.

i cant see this update ,
in fact I can not find anywhere where I can update the software. In the "About phone" does not appear, nor in settings does not say "System updates". In odin I could be upgraded by downloading the software from SamMobile but not in the phone section of OTA is. Someone can help me please

Do a factory reset and flash the stock PG1 rom with Odin. After log in set up let everything update. Then go to your settings and make sure Hotspot tethering is there if not repeat until you see it. Once it sticks then root.

Instructions on how to fix the hands free activation loop is in the how to root instructions. In fact b4 you root you need to use package disabler to stop the activation loop. Follow step by step i instructions on rooting process

To post #13 YES and everything works fine. Warning do not upgrade to PH7. You can root but can't activate the phone. I tried everything nothing work up to now. This upgrade detects your rooted and will not activate.

How to "control"/block OTA updates

Hi Guys,
It seems there is a 20h update coming, and I was wondering if there is a way of blocking or "preventing" an OTA update with our P769 ?
My P769 (20f) is rooted (using LGPWN method) and it seems that this can make the OTA fail (I have Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper just in case) and so it means that you'll have to go through the whole process of flashing if it fails... which is not too bad, but still...
So, is there basically a way of saying "yes" or "no" to an OTA ?
Thanks for you help :good:
Any idea ?

If you dig deep in the old threads you might find something. However, if I'm not mistaken none of them worked.
Thanks for the reply :good:.
I guess I'll have to deal with the OTA, and see what will happen.
the way it was done was using titanium backup to freeze two items having to do with ota. it worked. i did it and it was glorious. i will update this in a second when i find it

Wish I'd found this thread ages ago, I just used System Tuner to disable the update alerts in Google Services Framework. Wouldn't recommend it, caused a bunch of crashes.
Can't be switched off in the settings (about phone/check for updates)? Or set this to manual? I'm on CM now and I don't remember anymore for stock rom

Well, I may have found a work around...
My phone and my wife's phone are both rooted with bloat removed. On the first phone, I went ahead and told it to install the update and reboot knowing it would fail. After I got the dead droid, I pressed and held power until it shut off and then powered it back on. I have not seen the update prompt since. That was about a week ago. I went ahead and did the same thing to the other phone and have the same results (no update prompt). YMMV

[Q] Help- Need to restore to Stock but USB does not work

Hey guys,
I need a creative solution to restore my phone to stock for warranty claim. My USB does not work so I don't have the usual option of using Odin.
I thought I had found a solution with Mobile Odin but whenever I try to run, it mentions it is not compatible with my device. I am currently on Hyperdrive 17.1 via SS.
Thanks

If you are on NC5 I have a nandroid backup of a stock NC5 image that only has root. I could give you a link to my dropbox that has the zip and you could flash through safestrap then unroot, etc.... I imagine that would work. Up to you if you want to try it. Just let me know cuz I'm gonna have to boot into it myself and remove all my contacts and everything.

Yes it should work, generally you don't want to use nandroids from another phone of course, but if he's just doing it to return to stock for warranty, it should be enough to get it to boot, etc.

There you go. You should be able to download these files and put the in extsd/TWRP/backup/d.......
And "restore" in safestrap. You will then need to remove safestrap, supersu, and towel root apps and unroot. You may be able to unroot through supersu but I'm not sure. I hope this works for you...keep me posted so I can delete the dropbox folder if it works. Ill be deleting the folder in a day or two anyway just in case. The files are good but I assume no risk if something does go wrong as I've never done anything like this before...you should be OK though.
You may need to flash this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358539843 for WiFi also.
Great. Well i have downloaded all files onto my SD in the directory mentioned...
When i go into SS to restore, nothing appears. Any idea?
Try making a folder called 'stock' or something in extsd/TWRP/backups/d...... And moving everything to the new folder.

This is an NC5 flashable zip, just install in safestrap as you normally would. It may just be a ROM but I can't remember. https://www.dropbox.com/s/mth9zpmxqg75jgc/VRUFNC5_Rooted_Stock-v2.zip?dl=0

try replacing usb port
I started fixing phones (mainly iDonts because screens are a LOT cheaper), but I've replaced a usb port on an s4 active and it took me less than 10 minutes start to finish (for your first time I would watch the youtube video a few times and take as much time as needed, and btw fridge magnets work great for not losing screws)
the part should be $10 to $20 with shipping on amazon, and tool kit is less than $5 (the part might come with tools, look in description)
just search youtube "how to replace usb galaxy s4"
the usb port (and attatched flex cable) is not carrier specific, however, it probably differs from the s4 active and mini, and unfortunately don't have one to see if it is, so be sure to look out for that. The procedure IS different between S4 active, S4 mini, regular S4 so be sure you're watching a how to video on the right model
if you need any help with this, reply to this thread or pm and i will help you out.
Unless you have very shakey hands and/or can't see those small screws, I am confident you can do it, for not much has to come apart to replace the usb. The hardest part is the flex cable connection to the motherboard, but if you disconnect it with a PLASTIC tool, you greatly reduce risk of damage, so use plastic. A magnifier may help to see what you're doing, especially when fitting the new cable connection
Good luck!
edit: just looked back n saw the part about warranty. Well, I'm pretty sure you can get away with this, if it is a defective usb port. Those long samsung cables go bad after awhile so try another one (if you knew that already, disregard) and make sure verizon doesn't claim misuse (i.e. forced cable upside down; I used to work for them, they wouldn't replace phones for that reason but that was almost 4 years ago) just maybe try and make it look well taken care of if going warranty route. I am still pretty sure there are no void stickers on any screws, but I can check as soon as I figure out how to get safestrap back after forgetting to flash supersu after Hyperdrive rls19. I miss mdk...wish i didn't break that $180 display, I went with $100 Asurion claim (btw it was a brand new replacement, so any void stickers would be there)
Anyways, hope this helps, reply if need more, and good luck!

If I'm not mistaken, that logo can only be removed with an Odin .tar full wipe, for that custom lock shows up when anything to the ROM is changed, which it still may be. Locked bootloader means anything before the safestrap logo is locked (i think). I may be full wiping via odin today for I need to get root again, so I can let ya know if it gets rid of that.
Obviously I'm still a newb to xda, but I've been rooting for few years now, so keep that in mind. Just tryin to get my thx count up so I can actually post things lol. But if I am wrong about ANY of this, I am open to any criticism (so long as not rude and quick explaination why)
Hope this helps
Edit: maybe try flashing that zip again, but wiping system first? But if you lost safestrap I'm not sure how that is possible

And finally, thank you to deega for his MVNO Slayer!
Report bugs underneath this post.
Flash using TWRP. Factory reset beforehand. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU BREAKING YOUR DEVICE!
Changelog
1.0.0: Intial release.
1.0.1: Fixed #BYNAME references, which were making the zip impossible to flash.

1.1.1: Added back ANT radio service apps, the first time setup, and the Sprint activation apps. Thanks @JCS44 for the tip!
1.1.2: Removed a couple of overlooked apps.
1.2.0: Removed SuperSU and replaced it with phh's Super User. Removed ANT radio service apps; they're only really for smart watches and such. Put back in SecurityLogAgent(remove this afterward; it's to fix a notification bug.). I have also added back in TransmitPowerService in an attempt to fix the WiFi/Data issues.

2.0.2: Updated Voicemail. A couple of other tweaks.
2.0.3: Fixed phone bug.
3.0: Updated to newest version.

That means the J7 is incompatible with deodexing. I'll update the post right now with a version I made just in case there was this situation. Sorry, I haven't had time to properly test it.

Alright. I'll try to see what I can do. I'll try to fix this.
EDIT: If you want, you can become a tester. I don't have my phone right now. When I get it back, this process will be faster.
tried 1.1.1 and wifi and data is still buggy. wifi doesnt work at all and the mobile data goes to 3g sometimes and then nothing. last build it would go to 1x so theres progress. i try turning wifi on and it just turns back off.
EDIT: got 4g by updating the prl and profile in system update. but still no wifi. instead of going back to stock rom i can live with having only 4g so i can do more testing when theres new releases. 4g does drop to 3g time to time. it spends more time on 3g than 4g.
heres some screenshots. notification bar is stuck on "checking device status....."

Thanks for reporting the bugs! I'll look into the wifi/data problem, and for the "checking device status" notification, try turning off auto-updates. What steps did you take to update the system prl and profile? What did it change? Can you capture it?
EDIT: You have TWRP, right?
I think the transmitpowerservice folder you deleted in privapp has to do with the wifi. The checking device status is because it's missing securitylogagent, that checks to see if the device has been tampered with. You can add it back then disable it giving the notifications with packagedisablerpro from the play store.

Roasted Marshmallow [6.0.1] Super Debloated

Built for my Dev Edition but should work on the converted retail devices.
1. Full backup
2. Wipe EVERYTHING
3. Flash Roasted Marshmallow V2
4. Enjoy.
What's removed... everything. I only kept the Google stuff that reinstalls itself anyway and the base stuff to run the phone. Allshare, ANT, knox, verizon apps, etc. All gone.
this is a rebuild of the rom from an ADB pull of my current build without the apps i added for my daily use. should be pretty much bare bones.
android version: 6.0.1
baseband: cpd1
Kernel : 3.10.40 ([email protected]) [the one in the "marshmallow bootloader unlock" thread, i didnt change this]
thanks goes out to the devs that made the bootloader unlock thats made this possible for so many more people that didnt have an original dev edition.

Oops, try the link now. I am not used to sharing with mega yet.
Also on a side note, the WiFi may be broken because i am still using the KK bootloader 1ANL1. When i upgraded to MM i skipped out on the bootloader and just flashed the modded stock tar withough a bootloader so i wouldnt overwrite my dev edition boot.
those who took the update may not have a WiFi issue, but i included it in the broken because it is broken on mine and that may not be the only issue. if you flash it on yours and the WiFi works then i'll know thats the issue and i'll just change it to "WiFi broken if you are still using 1ANL1 bootloader".
also if you still cant download with that link let me know, and i'll move it to dropbox or something else.
Edit: WiFi fixed when I updated bootloader. So if you are on native Dev Edition do the full process where you flash the non Dev bootloader, convert back to Dev then upgrade to MM. Then you can flash in TWRP and all should go well.

Okay I flashed it and nothing happened, I just factory resetted and flashed it again and all the apps are still there. I also just upgraded to twrp 3.0.2.0 so I am going to downgrade it again and see if that was the reason nothing happened.
Downgraded back to TWRP 3.0.0.0 and flashed it again, and still no changes

There's another debloat script that works on our phones, the problem is it deletes so many things that it also removes access to private mode, it's here thanks to Danterape
Ok it only works on that particular rom apparently, it causes bootloops on stock
I tried installing the rom and it took awhile to boot up. I was able to connect to my wifi but setup forced closed before the end. I was forced to go through setup again and again with the same force close. I tried to go through setup with wifi, without wifi, with my sim card, without my sim card. It made no difference. I am on lollipop 5.01
I took a look at the zip, and it looked awfully small. There seems to be a LOT of files missing, and several empty folders that a normal ROM would have chock FULL of stuff. Like, the "priv-app" app folder is 100% empty. What happened to all the file that should be there? And the list of stuff in "system/app" ends at "FlashAnnotateSvc". There should be a ton more things there.
Is there something I'm missing here?
sorry my internet is bad lately, it probably got corrupted, i'll take it down and re-up i'll remove the links until fixed.
the file is on my laptop so i'll have to try it from there later this evening. sorry for inconvenience. Also if anyone wants it i can upload the archi kitchen files i used in making it.
Sounds good. I'm actually using your zip as a reference for mine. Might need some help getting mine going more.
Let's get some life back into the 915V!

Sounds great, i'd love to work with you on this. myself being limited on time it'd be nice to have someone to bounce ideas to/from. I am still relatively new to rom making so it'd be an excellent learning experience for me as well. not sure what tools you are using currently, but i am running archi kitchen on linux mint 18. the kitchen isnt officially supported anymore so it took a bit to setup, but i find it easy to use. at least it was pretty easy for 4.4.4.... 6.0.1 is giving me a little headache, lol copying the system folder keeps getting interrupted, which i overlooked before somehow, but many of the odex files are >100kb and terminal emulator keeps throwing an error out, so right now i am running adb and pulling the folder that way. once i repack it you can have a huge head start there
here is the old 4.4.4 zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gfy850bbb9aq18n/superdebloatedwithalittlebloat.zip?dl=0
for reference...
Uploads finished, enjoy and let me know what you think.
Still can't get native tethering running but luckily foxfi still runs on 6.0.1
I have same phone as you, and it just bootloops--gets to screen with Custom, and reboots. (V2)
NekoShinigami, if you want to use my v2.00 ROM as a base, go for it. Might save you quite a bit of headache. I tend to find it much easier if you start by using a factory image, and go from there.
I tried flashing again and it runs fine for me. Did you get the full 1.18gb? I'll take another look at it again.
Also did you upgrade to the unlocked 6.0.1 bootloader?
Edit: nevermind I just read in the other thread that you did not, that is most likely why you are boot looping. This rom and the kernel that is in it won't run on the 1ANL1 bootloader.

Got Echoe Rom working on sprint galaxy s7!!!

got echoe rom working without having to flash to tmobile firmware like one poster did. yes on the sprint s7 variant. started on universal firmware, rooted. then i flashed stang5litre rom. couldnt get data to work on it. so i then flashed echoe and it worked!! yes i did a full data wipe each time... had to edit build prop (310120), then add apn2 in apn settings. everything works... not sure if it has to do with stang5litre, or i could have just flashed over universal firmware.
Dam i would b down to flash the universal rom then echoe but i dont wana go do both if it doesnt work lol.
What are the apn settings I would need to change? Thanks a ton. I flashed over the u firmware before and data, etc wasn't working. Didn't know what to do for apn settings

Flash, set it up, install flashier. Have the echoe rom ready on your sd. Root, hurry up and flash the file. It may take a few tries of it rebooting to get it to work.

Yea i kept trying to root it but it kept rebooting before it could get rooted. Then when the phone would boot back up the root program would fail and reboot the phone. I got mad and stopped lol
no phone calls or texts
sorry for getting your hopes up guys. realized today i couldnt make texts or phone calls on the rom. looks like an activation issue.

I would suggest then change the misleading title of the forum...
wow... that was a while ago. i was one of the first people to get it to actually boot. i didnt check for msges or calls the first day... so sue me. if you can't take the time to read all the forum posts then maybe you shouldnt be here. there is a guide on the s7 edge forum that shows you how to get the rom working. it involves flashing pe1 or pf2 verizon firmware. don't be an ass dude.
you gotta pay to play...
man, i miss the days of the s3, when i could do anything to that phone after having invested in a riff box. hook that sucker up to the board and fix the hardest of bricks in minutes. i dont even know if these phones are jtaggable now... i should look into it... this board is just depressing. they completly murdered what would have been a great community... its a shame.
sorry, typing with broken keyboard. no shift key.
