Wi-Fi does not work and system directories stuck on "read only" in RemixOS 3.0
Hello to all the community Xda RemixOS.
Updating my macbook to RemixOS 3.0 version of the wi-fi does not work properly. In practice, the only way is to connect the LAN cable. On external forums I found the solution: change some strings of code init.sh files located within /system/etc/init.sh. To my great surprise, however, despite the root permissions I can not edit files in this directory because only mode "reading." I tried to mount terminal system even in writing, but the result is: "/ dev / loop1 / system is read-only mode." I have root permissions in theory I could not do what I want in those directories ??
Anyone able to help me places urgently, thank you!

look in the remix forum for the tutorial on how to enable system rw capability. after that you should be good to go.
look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/guide-modify-remix-3-0-101-t3428553

Yes, read the above guide, it's all you need + the wifi guide you've already found.
Please use search or simply check the top threads.
Every day too much stuff is duplicated, we must avoid it in order too keep the forum clean.

[HOWTO] Use WinSCP for Android

Coming from the world of apple iphone I am learning everything new here. One thing I loved about iphone was the ability to use WinSCP to modify root files. I understand that this can be done on the phone with in andriod but I have big hands and find it easier to use Winscp and mouse to navigate files on the phone.
Note: Mod if this in wrong section please help move
*Prerequisites: ROOT
*Tools required: SSHDROID (from market place it is free). Winscp
Install SSHDROID
Install WInscp (your pc will restart after install)
Connect your phone to your local wifi
open sshdroid, allow SUPER USER
in winscp type in ip address of phone (can be found by going to with in sshdriod screen)
Default User name is "root"
Default Password is "admin"
recommend changing... both user name and password
USer name can be change when first logging in winscp, password can be change with in SSHDROID in setting.
there you go you can now explor root files with in winscp with mouse and keyboard.
update : pictures of it working
nice, i never really bothered with this before, but its a good idea and probably worth the short amount of time required for setup, i'll try this later.
Yeah, Thanks... I remember when I came over from icrap, I was looking for a way to SSH, but gave up and just used rootexplorer for everything, and adb. This will definitely help though, especially since I like to edit the build prop on the pc.
**Edit**
Works great... so much easier to browse now. IMO
does this work to show system files? I use Samba Filesharing from the market to view my files through integrated windows networking (samba), but the system files don't show, just the sdcard.

Yes, he says it displays root files, and system files fall under that. I haven't tested myself so I can't personally testify but I'd be inclined to trust the OP on that.

Screens:
I am getting errors when attempting to copy files to the device. For example, I am attempting to add a font to /system/fonts but get this message
General failure (server should provide error description).
Error code: 4
Error message from server: Failure
Request code: 3
Thinking it has to do with permissions, I just don't know what. Any help would be appreciated!

same problems here...I think it has to do with sshdroid dropping comms...
edit: looks like device full...
Thanks! Worked flawlessly! I was looking for this since i moved over from iphone..Very handy and quick!
I can confirm that using SSHDroid in combination with WinSCP, will preserve the file time stamp (modified date) when copying files from Windows to Android 2.3.5 or Android 4.4.2. Most copy methods will update the file time stamp. (I don't think it makes any difference but both of the devices were rooted.)

Smb client mount using cifs library and cifsmanager

Hello everybody, I'm new and I'm a noob
Yesterday night i have root my samsung galaxy tab 10.1, then i mount cifs module with the aim to moun a smb share on my tablet. In the end all works but i can't browse folder without root privileges. For example
Using root file manager or terminal i can browse read, edit or write any file
using another app i can't because it has no privileges.
Probably there'll be three solution
1- Run all app as root (i can't do that please help me)
2- Change permission to all folder (i don't like this way)
3- Resolve problem using other ways ( change cifs.ko or something like that)
Please help me, consider that i use cifs file taken from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058713&page=2
Maybe you should set the mount point under /mnt/sdcard/
e.g. /mnt/sdcard/yourdir
I've tried but it doesn't work. I have red on the forum to put in the options
uid=1000 (system), gid=1015. You can read at the post 368 of this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756158&page=37
But i can't get the solution
everything solved mountin on sdcard using option
uid=0,gid=1015
Solve a problem band another one will come. I have mounted a share and i can't write on it. Any ideas? I think that the problem is the same, on the privileges. I have red about cifs but i can't understand. First or all cifs privileges on android discard the server rule when i write a new file or edit a old one? Second when i use privileges what is the user that execute apps on android? Third i have to use it and what is its code? Thank you
up ^ up ^ up ^ up ^
Well everything works. I write what i did probably it'll be useful for anyone.
First of all android use a series of user each for subsistem ( gps, bluetooth, radio ecc) and app ( music player, contact ecc). When you mount a share any app have access to it only if it has all privileges, so you have to specify in option the uid of the app that should open or write the share. The uid of all apps can be found in /data/system/packages.xml.
That's all folks
Sorry for digging this up, but I just wanted to thank the OP.
I had exactly the same problem on my SGS and manually overriding uid and gid did the trick.
I wonder why only some people seem to have this problem, though.

[Q] Pushing files to the HOX +

Hi guys,
I have a problem, I have HOX + and dock CR S650. HOX + does not have a docking mode. I found on the forum extract files from the HOX dock mode. I tried to push them on the phone but I get an error that the files on the phone are read-only. I tried using the SDK to push these files on my phone. Unfortunately this is not possible, you may have some other ideas how to do it or how else to install the docking mode for HOX +?
Edit:
I don't have root.

Well First off, just to clarify: You want to copy a file to your phone so it has docking mode? and you can't since you get an error saying its read-only?
I don't really understand but try the following:
1- Go to settings > About> Software information > More > Build number << Tap on it for 8 times till you get the text "you are a developer"
2-Go back to settings, you will find a new option called "developer options", tick on "usb debugging"
3-Now you can access the files on your internal storage without that error.
4-Also, after enabling this , try the dock if it will work.
Or:
1-Download "airdroid" from the playstore
2-open it and access the files from your PC's browser.
3-"upload" a file to your SDcard.
Both ways will allow you to copy files to your SDCard.
Edit: If you are trying to change something in the system/ section of your phone, and manually extract an app to your system directory / change a setting in your system directory then you must have root access.
Please read this thread on how to root the HOX+:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066390
That's what I understood from your question, If i misunderstood then please clarify.
P.S Please use the Q&A section of the forum to ask questions. This is for discussion purposes
Best of wishes
So you well understood, HOX + doesn't have a dock mode and I wanted to install it from the HOX but this needs to replace a few files. I can't do because they are read-only files.
I checked USB debugging but it's still not working. AirDroid doesn't allow the operation.
In connection with the wrong department I need to move this. Did the administration do? Sorry, I'm new to this forum. This is a big forum and in a foreign language to me.
I think this operation is needed root but I don't want root my phone because I lose my warranty

[ROOT] How to Deactivate that Unneeded Touchpad (or other devices) in Remix OS

A special thanks to @HypoTurtle for all of the basic info that I compiled here. :good:
Many of us get a little disgusted with the extreme palm sensitivity of the touch pad when we are using Remix OS for PC with a touchscreen or mouse. You can disable the touch pad or other devices by following these steps:
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE ROOT and system must be R/W enabled if you wish to modify the file /system/etc/excluded-input-devices.xml
In order to make the system R/W you need to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/guide-using-jides-remountrw1-method-to-t3431595
After that then refer to the attached PDF file for instructions on modifying the system.
Issues
I have root .. per Root Checker and I am SuperSU .. I am able to pull up and edit the file BUT I am unable to save it and get an unable to save error message.

I made this before Jide locked down the system file. In order to make the system r/w you need to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/guide-using-jides-remountrw1-method-to-t3431595
Then you can use my method.

[Q] How do I access android.os.storage.IMountService? System Dev's HELP!

I'm working on a custom tablet running Android 6.0.1
I have root access and have placed the app I'm making in the /system/priv-app/ directory and thus gaining access to system permissions.
This app needs to copy files from the sdcard partition to a flash drive (The tablet I'm working on has 2 Full USB ports) and then unmount the flash drive.
I've already got the file's being copied successfully, but I'm having trouble unmounting the flash drive.
From what I've read I need access to the android.os.storage.IMountService class.
How do I gain access to this class?
I've tried adding a classes-full-debug.jar file I found online and this did give me access to android.os.storage.IMountService but there were errors when trying to compile in Android Studio.
The main reason this tablet even exists is to create these reports and the people using these tablets are not very "Tech Savy"...
Simplifying the process to get the reports off the tablets is crucial, so any help at all would be amazing!

can't you just open a shell in the background of the app and do df -h and see what the drive mount thing it is on, then you can just type unmount /dev/<insert drive mount thing here>.
if anyone else has this problem the solution is http://stackoverflow.com/a/39792666/5194446
