Root method for this device is leading to mny bricks. There is no official tot or kdz reeased for this device. Which is leaving even more people out. Is there any way to close this thread. As for rooting people are using kingroot before bootloader unlock and the swap to su from kingroot mention in post is also leaving people bricked. Again is there any thing we can do to stop more people from bricking

Im ok i got root twrp plus mny a mods. This is for people that dont know.

The thread is fine. Not every thread on xda stays relevant forever, and members in the thread seem to be working things out.
In the end, every person is responsible for what they do to their device. If they read and research and read some more, before doing things, they shouldn't have an issue. If they just blindly flash whatever, that's on them.
I'm going to close this thread now, as I see no malicious intend in that thread. We don't close out dated threads. It's up to members to study up before doing anything. Just reading the last few pages of any threads usually tells the tale.

[Q] Why unlock bootloader ?

Can anyone tell me the interest to unlock the bootloader?
Is it really useful? In which case do?
Because it is very risky to do.
And is there a post that gives a good explications ?
My phone is come from USA. It's a AT&T under the Gingerbread.

Actually it was constructive. If you had read the guide per another poster's advice, you would not have then been back asking how to get out of trouble because you chose to ignore the given advice!
There is plenty of good help given and offered on XDA, but it's the people who ignore the help/advice, forge ahead blindly, then expect the forum members to fix their screw ups because now they suddenly choose to listen to the advice who really make it difficult to keep a positive attitude.

So if we follow the reasoning.
Read the post. And if you're wrong, too bad for you.
it is a beautiful spirit.
I prefer to say "to err is human" but we are here to help. The best thing is to learn from mistakes (but I'm sure you've never made a mistake). And I must say thanks to those who helped me. I will not make the same mistake.
I can even help those who have made the same mistake without insulting them.
And the kind of comments like yours do not learn.
Now I think the discussion can't stop there! And as we say at home: "A bonne entendeur salut!"
Galadiel, I don't believe that is what happened here. The way this conversation unfolded, your messages started off asking a philosophical question "Why is it desired to unlock the bootloader?" and very quickly turned into "Help, I tried it but something went wrong." From your description, the specific problem you had is a well-documented issue that is described in the instructional link you were given to read, including how to fix it.
There are a lot of people trying to modify their phones. That's why the tutorials exist. Your posts sounded dismissive of the help offered to you, and not surprisingly, you got some annoyed responses in return.
----------
Okay then. Are you still having the "Failed to boot" screen appear after flashing the .sbf file with RSD Lite? Have you resolved your situation, or do you still need help?

Moderators. Please make a sticky on this forum...

Everyday, there is a thread about someone bricking his phone or some other issue. Why isn't there a thread as a sticky for noobs trying to root this complicated device? Every other Android device I owned had one. This is what would help.
1) Identifying what phone you have i.e. Maxx,Razr,909,910,912, etc.
2) GSM or CDMA
3) What rooting method for what phone.
4) What recovery for what phone.
5) What kernels and ROMS for what phone.
I am sure this is available somewhere but it is very scattered at the moment and what i available is not very succinct. It seems as though this is the most easiest phone to brick and maybe this can be avoided by having a simple sticky here to which users can post to. Thanks.
Make a thread with all of that info. Maybe the mods will sticky it.

Wish I could, I am a noob at this phone myself.

frustrated with rooting

I've tried numerous times with numerous methods. Can't seem to get it down. I consider myself pretty tech savvy. Any tips for a noob?
Read the instructions from the developer over and over. Then read it again before doing anything else. Read them several times in their entirety before beginning action. Most issues arise because people think they've read the instructions, but they missed that one key item.
Follow THIS step by step guide, assuming you are bone stock (as the guide states) and you will be golden if you do not skip anything.
I used his CASUAL one-click method (on mac, windows should be easier) and it was my first time rooting. 0 Problems.
Know exactly what version of stock software you have installed on your device. Make sure it lines up with any guide you are following. If you're not sure, ask. Make sure you have a comprehensive understanding of the following concepts before proceeding. If you're confused as to what any of these are, search the forums and google. As a last result, ask. Don't just think you know what these are. Be positive in your knowledge of these terms:
Root
(Locked) Bootloader
Recovery
Rom
Mod
Kernel
Flash/Install
Cache
Dalvik-Cache
Lastly, back up everything, every time. Best laid plans and all that. You can never be too safe.
Good luck
It all depends on whether you're on a Mac or PC. I had tons of problems with my Mac...I finally had to use my wife's work PC. There are also tons of Youtube videos with step by step instructions and links to the software...

Your first noob mistake is posting a question and not giving any details. What version are you on? Baseband? What have you actually tried? There are more than enough people to help guide you in the right direction. But as he said, do read until your eyes hurt. Then go away and when you come back, read some more

Yes.
People do it all the time for Frankenstein to convert to US998 from other North American variants -- either for bootloader unlock or to carrier unlock their phone from Sprint LS998 or AT&T H931. They have to go down to US998 Nougat first, then Master Reset, then go to US998 Oreo.

Why does answering you upset you so much?
Because I pointed out you don't know how to search the XDA forum? You asked for link without bothering to search, when I told you the name of the thread and where to find it. I thought that would be enough information. After I told you how to search, that seems to be when you searched.
Apparently updating a post a few seconds later with more information doesn't count with you, so don't bother to tell me you updated your post. I did the same tonight in the other thread and you acted like I did something nefarious -- by adding more complete information to help you.
I answered when I answered in this thread -- and I tend to act towards people as they act towards me.
I answered your questions about bootloader unlock in the Oreo thread. You either didn't like the answer because you wanted a different answer (you kept asking the same question repeatedly even though I gave you the answer the first time) -- or you couldn't be bothered to actually read it well. Or combination of both?
I wrote the instructions for bootloader unlock -- so if I answered you about bootloader unlock it was to give you the best, accurate information.

By the way you posted in the wrong section, so I reported to a mod and your post will be moved to where you should have posted it -- in Q&A.
Nothing I have said is rude. I only pointed out I had to answer you three times before you actually read what I wrote and that infuriates you for some reason. The question was simple, the answer was simple. For some reason you wanted to make it into an argument because I told you I had already answered your question when you asked it again, and again, and again.

Does anyone know how to fix broken download mode?
I tried to root my phone but I failed among the many steps. I just flashed US998 ROM on my V300L because it was in one of the steps. And I didn't unlock my bootloader so I can't install TWRP. I tried to revert back to V300L ROM with LGUP but it doesn't recognize my device. And on download mode screen it says
Unknown B78
Unknown / E / L / RO
Also, I was on Pie
And I didn't find any solution to this problem online.
UPDATE: It boots up to setup screen. But restarts after touching anything.

You're either...
1) not using Dev Patched LGUP at all (instead using regular LGUP),
2) not using the latest Dev Patched LGUP
or
3) you didn't read the installation instructions of latest Dev Patched LGUP and follow them.

Hope I can do that as well... Just absolutely annoying that I got something working and then out of nowhere just because I updated to A9 it quit working out of the sudden. Like give me a break, I have enough issues already to sort out to figure out how to free it from the Tyranny of bull**** companies. I have a F800K... Hopefully I can get this working and flash it back to A7.
Okay I seem to get to the point where I am close to breaking my phone with a hammer. Like using so much time on getting something to work just wanted to try out A9 and now getting this issue... Like come on!
I need some help here.
I have the V20 F800K and I need to downgrade it for rooting, and now with A9 I can't seem to downgrade it.
Help needed... Sick and tired of this nonsense of wasting hours and hours on something that should be as easy as eating pie.

ChazzMatt you are absolutely no help to us newbies! Like I don't have enough problems, yea find it yourself sort of thing, has never been valuable in my book. That is not how you make people learn. While people are lead they learn, not like - figure it out yourself, that takes a lot longer then just giving a helping hand. I never understood people who have this idea, just figure it out yourself, its really not that hard... yea.... when you know it is not hard.
Like we don't already have 100 tabs open to listen and figure things out, in this grand mess of how to do it. Just load some more on people, and see people break.

I don't know why I'm bothering to reply as you don't seem to be a reasonable person, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
First off, if you can't handle search and finding info yourself, then you shouldn't hack your phone. We're not here to hand hold people for every little thing.
Secondly, we don't live on the forums, so posting your nonsense every few minutes is just going to aggravate people who could help you. Sometimes I will help people who are not able to find things themselves, but you're being very unreasonable so I have no desire to try.
Thirdly, you seem to be talking about a V20 phone... this is the V30 forum. If you can't find the right forum to post your question, you REALLY shouldn't try to use these tools. Yes, LGUP is probably cross platform in this sense, but again, I don't care to try.
Finally, you hijack a thread and then complain about the very people you want help from? Seriously?
Bottom line, this process is unofficial and tricky. We're not here to handhold you through the process any more than the referenced, excellent posts already do. You clearly cannot follow directions, can't search, and can't find well placed and very obvious threads (I know for a fact that WTF thread is at the TOP of the forum section, because I just saw it there). Yes, we want to help, but if you can't be bothered to make an effort, and then want to complain about everyone, then you're not going to find any help here... certainly none from me. Consider yourself blocked.

I did, but there is so much so I might have missed it. Had 3 or more tabs open on the subject trying to sort it out. I did sort it out, and I did try the dual file... Whatever the case I did not get it to work. But I did find another solution for my V20 F800K. I'll attach the files for anyone who needs it.
Install MSI first and then copy over the files in the folder pie! And you should be able to downgrade version 9 to version 7. Just tiering with all these files and this and that. This seems to do it for me overall, with whatever I wanna fix it with. A7 8 or 9
Anyway, I am moved to a lot of other issues having solved it. I seem to have rooted my phone yet, now I have a lot of other issues as I can't update to version 8 it seems now that I am rooted because of Google crazy.
