It's the exact same process.
If you feel that the screen icons and text are too large for you and want more screen real estate to work with. I recommend doing this, and you'll love your device more. Giving you an extra icon column for your screen, and below gives you 2 extra quick icons!

That's cool tablet mode. I didn't experiment with any other numbers!
My pictures above are examples of density 480 to 320.

No difference at all.

I was able to install the 15 second adb installer on windows 10 and follow the directions from the thread to do this with no problems. Thanks.
The only small issue that I noticed with this was with the Xperia home launcher. I'm getting "unfortunately xperia home has stopped" as soon as I changed to 320 density. Also, if you try to change the launcher settings at 320 density the grid option and the shortcuts options don't show. I think it's a setting in the home launcher but I haven't figured it out yet. Sometimes it does it when I hit home from the camera app, sometimes it doesn't.
I mirror my phone on a 10" joying head unit and having the higher density really helps with android auto.

Thank you work like a charm. No issues at all.

New Home launcher
The new launcher Sony Home allows this without root

Yes it does on my F3212. Besides, I don't think it matters what version you're using cuz this is originally a C5 Ultra method.

So changing the density of the process^ works on the Xperia C5, Xperia Z5, and Xperia XA Ultra. However, I've upgraded to the Xperia XA1 Ultra currently on Nougate 7.0. The steps seem not to work. I found a workaround, but it has it's issues.
An alternative is to go into Developer Mode settings and change the "Smallest Width." The numbers are not the same as changing it with 'adb command prompt.'
When changing the dpi in Developer Mode settings "Smallest Width." There are multiple things that happen when across the board Xperias with Nougate 7.0; including Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia XZ, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1.
When changing 'smallest width' dp (dpi) between its original number 423; i.e. 540-599 the 'action bar' buttons move out of place in landscape mode.
When set to 600 dp (dpi) or higher, is in tablet mode and the action bar moves to the bottom when rotated in landscape mode (avoiding the warping of the action bar). However, another problem occurs; the file management system becomes locked. Gmail cannot attach a file, nor other apps cannot open it's file management system.
At first I tought this was a 'Write Access' problem, restarting and troubleshooting. I found out reverting the dp (dpi) to a lower density, the error pop-up disappears.

Has anyone played with the LCD Density of the 5.0?

NEED TO BE ROOTED
Been thinking of playing with the LCD density but briefly reading thru posts on google and some people have had calibration and touch issues if they tweak their lcd density on their devices, so this has kinda put me off. Just wondered if anyone was braver than me?
Well, I went ahead and updated the dpi using lcd density modder app from the market. I think the sweet spot is 190 but I have the screen shots, 240, 200, 190. As you can see you can fit a lot more on the screen if you set the dpi to 190.
Apparently some apps struggle with this change but so far everything working ok. Sorry for image sizes but I think they emphasise the point

Out of interest what is the default dpi?
The default value was 240, and i currently have it on 190
I simply modified the build.prop entry for icd density to read 190 and all is well. I made a backup of the build.prop of course just in case.
It makes the screen look sharper I think.

Thats all these apps do to be fair.
Yea I used 190 as well with a free app called "LCD Resolution" it has the option to apply on reboot as well
.
Did anyone notice that some of the graphics on the lockscreen come up short after setting the DPI to 190? (I also tried at 210 and while the effect is not as noticeable, it's still there.) Also some of the icons in the notification bar are slightly "off". Although it does look a bit better with a lower LCD density, I prefer fit/finish. Thanks for the tip though.
Changing the lcd density is a hack at the end of the day, and some rendered elements will not like it. I take the approach that it is a trade off of functionality versus aesthetics

i will try 190 dpi
Eh I tried 190 DPI and while it did make it look better on menu-oriented lists like in the Setting app... everything else was awful (the app positioning, the lockscreen, pretty much everthing else scaled for 240).
Its interesting that we can adjust this, but I would say it's not worth it at all other than to just try once.
I just tried it too.. cool to play around with but 240 looks best, imo.
Well... I just hit the ill effects of changing the density. Some of my apps are shown "incompatible with your device" message.
No big deal, but... annoying.
I wonder if some of the "cracked market" fixes for other devices will work with this player.
Anyone know?
Edit:
I got it! I used the Hacked Market per directions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1456306 -> http://rootzwiki.com/topic/15568-rel-market-fix-dpi-compatibility/ to get the Market fooled to thinking I had DPI set at 240. All my apps which were shown "not compatible" with 190 DPI, are now available.

How can you stand the whole screen not being used lol Even @ 190dpi it's still 4x4 and looks horrible =P
4X4? Do you mean the launcher layout?
I use ADW EX and I have no problems with the screen space. The only minor thing that barely bugs me is the lock screen that looks partial.
Well, I am hoping that we get some custom roms on this thing soon. I am running ICS on my Cappy and TP and I am loving it.

LCD Density

Are we able to change the LCD density with this device? I'm on AOKP, on my phone I usually use ROM Toolbox to change it and that works nicely at 160 - 180 dpi depending on preference.
If we are able to change density, what are people running that A.) Doesn't cause any OS issues and B.) Seems to be a good density for tablets( obviously I'd like something smaller than default to fit more stuff on the screen ).
Also does anyone know if there is a way to remove the persistent search bar and app draw icons with AOKP( or another ROM ) and also if there is a way to remove the margin on top, bottom, left and right? I'd like my widgets to be just about flush with the devices edge if at all possible.

Don't know about any of the AOKP stuff, but the LCD Density is just controlled via your build.prop I'm pretty sure. BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU EDIT IT AND BE SURE TO MAKE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL FILE! Just d/l buil.prop editor and have a look around it and the forum, you'll easily be able to change it.

Yes, was talking about UI size, and yes, I changed this all the way done to 120 without a problem, but settled on 140 as a good setting for fitting more info on the screen. Also set a 10 x 10 grid with Nova Launcher which looks great
Would you mind posting up a screen shot? I have trouble trying to fill up my regular screen.

Or just build.prop Editor, find ro.sf.lcd_density or whatever, and edit appropriately. Be careful, editing this can cause a lot of problems with your device and its apps, so keep the numbers reasonable.

[Q] Nexus 9 Custom DPIs

So the prime reason i root my devices is to mess around with the DPI. Has anyone tried any display densities besides the stock 320? If yes, how do you like it?

No. Instead, everything gets smaller, when you decrease the LCD density. To make things larger, increase it.
Usually we use this trick to make better use of the screen. More content and less interface area.
Try increasing the font size, or play with the accessibility settings. Maybe this can help you.

Those things certainly help. I wish you could modify the invert option. Triple tap to zoom is good. Just need a little more than the standard large or extra large font.
Thank you for the quick reply. Much appreciated.

You need reboot 2 times to verify if an app became incompatible. On 260 Botanicula, Bright weather and Angry Bird HD were blocked.
But if you don't use anything that is blocked, be happy! Like me, with the Nexus 5 on 261 (1 pixel before going into the world of phablets). ?

Um..... I tried, but the method 'moves' status bar, not 'increase status bar height'.....
when I move down status bar, a empty space appears... (which can't touch... a null space)
conclusion : I failed, and it's IMPOSSIBLE to CHANGE status bar height, not MOVE status bar....:crying::crying::crying:
Yeah same issue i got the status bar with the level of notch but there was a empty space above

thats weird .... should work. I never had a phone were this doenst work
Someone install the MiAPPA app from Play Store, in vision settings please check custom DPI. It's probably 444 or 422.
Fixed this with ADB. 430 DPI works perfectly. Default is 444. Cheers.
@kurogami95
but thats only an individual solution ... what if i want smaller DPI
Ok this also happens with me! So what i did to fix
Step 1 go to developer options and find 'smallest width'
Under drawing section
Enter 440 in it
Step 2 go to accessibility
Open that display size set to default
Step 3 go to display
Set font size
Set it to Small (s)
Then restart it
And finally it fixed!

Broken DPI scaling on EMUI9

Hello.
May someone be interested. EMUI9 have broken DPI scaling, minimal width option in Developers settings working only on apps (some internal also) but lockscreen, notifications or icons (on the top, and launcher) still became large.
Attached screen shows quick settings panel with minimal width 530 dp in Dev settings.
Additionally, after phone reboot, it is reverting to default values (423 dp if chosen smallest screen size in settings).
Huawei agent told me that for sure it is bug, not feature.
I sent ticket to Huawei, maybe they fix this but i think we can raise up chance by mailing more from you...
What i checked, issue is not linked to P10, i.e. P20 Pro or Mate 20 series running on EMUI9 also have the same issue.
Regards.

Yes, bootloader is locked and it is my first phone which i don't want to root, because some bank apps are unable to pay via NFC when phone is rooted/unlocked.
It does not change nothing, official software should be done enough for end users, bugs like scaling is unacceptable...
