From the thread, it appears to work for PE1, not sure about PG2.
Just use TWRP to do a full backup to your SD Card before you attempt anything.
Or, you could flash a already rooted version of a Stock Rom. Look at my sig for the one I'm running. It's PE1.

[Q] SM-G850A Stock ROM or method to extract stock ROM

Hi Everyone,
Didn't see anyone post the stock firmware ODIN files for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Alpha SM-G850A. I want to get it before I try to root my phone.
Or how can I extract it's stock ROM? After that and test, I'll upload it post a link to all.
Thanks.

Where did you find a root method for this device? So far, as I have been following, there is no known root method.

update verizon rooted s4 running 4.3 (MK2) to kitkat

Hi;
apologies if this has been asked before;
I have a Verizon S4; I rooted it long time ago and then disabled the OTA so the phone is still at 4.3 now (MK2 build).
I am thinking about upgrading the software to a stable kitkat version (maybe 4.4.2 ??) will I gain anything? also I would like to update the radio as well
will that work and I can keep the root?
any help or suggestions would be great...
thanks

You can Odin the nc5 package and then use towelroot to root again.
Only need a keeproot method when going from nc5 to oc1.

2-Install twrp? (do i need root to install it?)
3-Root it from twrp? (How do i do that?)
Thanks for the help bro, you are helping me and I really appreciate that:good:

You don't need to root Lollipop to install a custom ROM. In case you just want to root lollipop, download the super user zip file. Just google it. Launch TWRP and install the zip file. That's all.

I have been trying this method but doesn't seems to work, I already changed the name of the twrp img file but nothing :crying: any suggests?
You need to tell it where the file is located, the easiest way to do this is to put the TWRP file in a folder and then hold down the shift key and right click with your mouse inside the folder you put the file in. You should see an option to open command window here. Select this and try flashing TWRP again. It should work. Here is an explanation with pictures of what I was talking about with the open command window here http://michaelcrump.net/power-tip-for-windows-users-open-command-prompt-here/

Flashing a old or new firmware build on your phone, no chances of brick, unless your computer catches fire in the process.
There's TWRP for your phone in the reserved XDA forum? Flash it using Odin and flash SuperSU system-less. CF-Auto Root does it, flash a patched custom recovery and flash root package.
