Tethering with cricket. - AT&T LG G5 Questions & Answers

Is there any workaround for using wifi tether? I have cricket and when I try to tether it tries to authenticate through at&t authentication garbage. This phone was given to me for free and I love it besides not being able to change the ROM. It's alright but not being able to tether really sucks.

It happen the same for me, I bought it contract free to use it in my country and with all of these blocks of ATT I can't use a lot of features

I have off topic question will att g5 unlocked work on sprint or verizon

[Q] Can you use the Atrix without any carrier?

I bought the atrix when it came out and left my family and their plan for it (I was still using a first gen Razr and wanted a smartphone/data), I need to save money so I'm joining back up with my family, my choices are to have them switch over to ATT or have me switch over to Tmobile. (Comparable price, so that's not the concern)
I would not be able to use 4g with tmobile so would need a new phone.
So my question is: Can I still use the atrix over wifi without using either att, tmobile or any carrier? Since I paid so much for it and its better than any free phone I would like to keep using it for wifi if i switch to tmobile.
OR
Should I just have my family switchover to ATT since they don't care and I can keep my phone/service? The monthly price is pretty much the same and they definitely get all new phones with ATT.
I'm thinking to have everyone switch to ATT unless tmobile offers something great, but I still want to know if its possible to use if I have to switch.

Yes you can, you just have to disable insert sim card screen. Follow the instructions in the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXDj-h1DEAM
You could just sim unlock it, flash a European radio, since those support tmobile bands and use the atrix on tmobile.

Nope. T-Mobile uses different frequencies in Europe than they do in the US so flashing a radio wont change a thing. You'd still get edge/2G though. And T-Mobile has started adopting AT&T's 3G/FauxG bands so depending on where you live, you might luck out and get 3G.
But yes, just download a VoIP app like Skype, Groove IP or Talkatone and you're set for wifi calls.
If you drop AT&T, get the unlock code first (even if you are going w/o any cell sefvice and do not need the code now). This is free, and will no longer be an option once you cancel with AT&T.
I use my ATRIX without service, using wifi only and use sipdroid with my google voice number for voip calling and you could use gv for texts as well. There is even an app, GV Full Integration, which you can use your gv number for texting through your native sms app or Go Sms. If you rather an inexpensive service, straight talk, $45 a month unlimited, just watch your data consumption, I believe they consider 2 GB a month "excessive usage" and will cut off your data as a warning but will restore it by calling customer service. Second time, no more service period.

I'm using mine right now without mobile data.
Save more battery power by installing Network app by philipp mangelow to shut off the cell radio.

Question about unlocking

Hey guys,
A friend of mine just bought a Verizon S4, new in the box. Unfortunately he updated to OF1. He's on the Verizon network, but he's not under any sort of contract. So as far as I know, he should be eligible to have it unlocked by Verizon.
I'm reading that there is no current root method for OF1. If he gets the phone unlocked, will he have the ability to flash a third party (rooted) ROM? Or is he SOL?
All he really wants to do is enable wifi tethering. I know how to do this with root. And I know FoxFi can do this without root, but the lock screen requirement plus giving them the ability to snoop all traffic via trusted certificate sets off too many alarm bells for my liking.
Thanks.
Edit: I mixed up sim unlocking and bootloader unlocking, so disregard all that. I'd delete the whole thread and start one specific to tethering if I could, but I can't. If anyone has any recommendations on unlocking wireless tethering without root, I'd appreciate it.
I just don't understand, both my & wife's phone can wifi tether straight out of the box. It's under wifi settings. I don't see why you can not either. I have used it to connect my touch computer to Internet or whatever else I need to connect.

I believe it depends on your plan. When he enables the mobile hotspot, it says something about asking the carrier for permission. It then fails and says that his plan does not allow tethering.
I'm on AT&T, not Verizon, so I'm not familiar with the exact plan names. But I think the new "Share Everything" plan or whatever it's called allows tethering. He's grandfathered in on the old unlimited data plan.

At&t LG v10 on tmobile. No hotspot. How to fix?

Hi.
A long time back I had a vz note3 that I used with tmobile and there was a simple thing to do to fix it so when I activated hotspot it didn't look at vz servers but looked at tmobile for the authentication and it would work.
Well I'm in that similar boat again. Now I got an att v10 and I'm on tmobile. It's obviously unlocked but it getting that error where I guess it's contacting AT&T servers for the authentication check for my hotspot.
Anyone know how I can fix this? Foxfi don't work either. Also yes I do have mobile broadband on my tmobile acct.
Thanks
Was your Note 3 rooted? I would think you might be limited with your presently unrootable AT&T V10? Good luck tho, I hope you can find a solution. Have you tried all the third party tethering apps?

Enabling Verizon's V10 hotspot

ive been using the verizon model on net10 and was having trouble activating the hotspot because the phone would recognize the sim card as not being from verizon, i came across a thread for the lg g4 verizon model and tried it on the v10 and it worked. im guessing you have to be rooted for this to work. heres the link to the original guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/how-to-enable-native-hotspot-unlimited-t3166435
another alternative might be foxfi

I have a customer who successfully used FoxFi on MM, non-rooted.

for 30 bucks a month unlimited data, I just pay. Turn it on with a phone call and off thru My Vzw, when I need it. Its prorated. I mostly use it traveling with the family so they can use my unlimited data. A buck a day for unlimited data isnt too much to ask I dont think! Specially since root is not looking good.
Hotspots should be freee......... i also used foxfi on non root to enable hotspot on some phones.

unlocked phone , mobile hotspot authentication

I have my att phone unlocked when I run mobile hotspot it says authentication error. other people that use this network say their phone doesn't ask for authentication. phone is unrooted and so is the one that works. no I don't want to use foxfi to usb tether.
Your phone is carrier unlocked ? In that is the case, then it might have to do with the way AT&T offers this mobile hotspot service() so asking some questions is what I would do. Also have a look over and see if it makes any sense http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/318149-mobile-hotspot-does-not-work-unlocked-t-s4-3.html , I just found it on google
my new provider is saying I would need a att sim to do mobile hotspot. I am capable with the service I get with my new provider its just locked to att sim. this is crazy and I really don't want to root it to edit one file, kind of a moot point anyway since there is no root for the 820
