H850TR Bootloader Unlock - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
Do you know anything about h850tr bootloader unlock? I wrote under LG development forum, then they said that LG is not planning anything about it yet. Is there any way unofficially to handle that? An unrooted Android isn't much fun
If other people share their opinion about that in LG forum, maybe they change their minds.

LG is pretty adamant about not offering an unlocked bootloader on any devices they haven't already released an unlock for. Right now our only hope for anything outside of 850 and 830 is the skilled members of this forum to do their thing. They're working on it!

I have never encountered this type of problem with HTC Salsa and S4 mini. So I didn't need to check this issue. It's been a very expensive lesson for me. I hope devs find a solution for this.
In XDA we trust.

Hello again,
Is there any development for H850tr lately?

Nope.

Lg g5 H850TR owners write together on a lg forums with a common email
"Hi
There are many international G5 users looking for Bootloader unlocking on LG devices. why can't LG support Bootloader unlocking on international versions of the phone which have the same model number as the european version?
it's the exact same phone but not supported, this doesn't make sense.

I asked Lg developer team.
Hello,
In accordance with LG's policy, you can only unlock bootloader for the supported devices.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If there are any changes to the supported devices, we will let you know via our website.
Best Regards,
LG Developer site Team

I wrote lg developer forum ..
I think everyone in this forum wants a bootloader unlock just as much as i do.
Your lame excuses are pathetic LG. The unlock code for LG G5 only for the European market has also been released.
Please give the CEO's email or you will lose another valuable customer.
Your competitors are crushing you LG.
Ive sent multiple emails to LG Singapore(my bootloader version is singapore) and their responses do not explain this issue fully. I have been told that the engineers are responsible for this and they are worthless LG.
Grow up and support development. Im not asking for the impossible. If you cannot do anything about this, I urge LG to remove all other bootloader unlocks so all that your customers are "safe" and leave you alone.

No. It's not supported and will most likely never be supported (or at least not any time soon). If anything changes you will see post about it being achieved. Currently, the only unlockable and rootable devices are:
1) h850 EU open market
2) t mobile h830
3) us unlocked rs988
If unlocking bootloader and root is important and you can use one of those devices I listed get one of them instead.

Will the G5 have an unlocked bootloader?

Hi,
I've always been a Samsung guy but the LG G5 has sparked my interest since it has a removable battery and SD slot. I see that some versions of the G4 have an unlocked bootloader. I was wondering if there was any information on the G5 having an unlocked bootloader for the US version? I've tried looking around but couldn't find anything about it. If they haven't announced anything yet are they likely to have it unlocked? Having root is crucial for me but being able to use different ROMs is even better. Thanks!
It's not going to be unlocked out of the box, so no one will know until they come out and people start to get them. Looking at the past, going from the G2 > G3 > G4, the ability to unlock and root has gone down hill, especially with carrier versions. I've seen significantly less dev support for each phone, and I'd expect the G5 to be even more locked down.

"Out of the box" there are no devices that come with the bootloader unlocked (any more). You need to go through steps to unlock. LG has been no different.
In terms of US BL unlockable, the only carrier quick to offer this has always been T-Mo. G2,3 & 4. That said, we won't know prior to release

This. Tmo generally DGAF about bootloaders being unlocked, so hopefully that continues here. I'm interested in this device but no Root would suck.
I also hope this device will have an unlocked bootloader. It seems like a pretty sick little phone. I am still on a S4 with AT&T, which was my first phone with a locked bootloader. I know you can load other ROMS on it via SafeStrap, but that just seems like such a gimpy way to go. My previous S2 (international version) was unlocked, and I loaded all sorts of ROMS. I hate the concept of a manufacturer locking down a phone you purchase.
Have the previous LG G phones been unlocked, or at least rooted? I know I could do the research, but I am feeling a bit lazy right now.
Thanks
G2 and G3 where unlockable. G4 was rootable but not unlockable. V10 was sealed up tight.
I want the G5 but if I can't at least root it on Verizon it's a no go for me. I'll give up new phones like the G5 and S7 and stick with my totally unlocked Moto X Pure until another manufacture makes something with a sd card and a unlockable bootloader with CDMA bands.

That's so frustrating. I'd be furious if any computer I purchased was like that. I want to do what I want to the **** I own. Maybe I will just have to rethink my hesitations about the 6P's size.

The 6 p is the best phone I've ever owned. Had most samsung HTC and lg phones. I have a g4 that I gave to my son because the lack of unlock on the Sprint version. If there's a version of the g5 which is unlock able with Sprint radio capability I'll try one out. Looks really cool.

I really do want the 6p, but it is just such a large phone. That is my only hang up, and it is such a bummer.
I hope there will be a way around it. And being on Verizon doesn't help. I might have to skip it and go for something along the lines of joshw0000.

LOL...there are a plenty good phones which work with CDMA. I can vouch for MXPE. Try it. Always buy unlocked outright, man!
PS: G4 unlocked works with CDMA. You can buy it from B&H. I can get you a link if you want. BTW, welcome to 2016....

Dude, look at my signature. I'm on a MXPE. That's basically the newest unlockable bootloader phone that can be used on Verizon. I had a VZW M9 that I sent to a developer to be unlocked but got bored with it. The VZW G4 doesn't have an unlockable bootloader and an "unlocked" G4 will not work on Verizon. With exception to the Nexus line, that's it but I have to have an sd card. I've used the N6, N5X, and N6P. They're not for me.

Yes, 2016 is the year of locked down carrier restrictions. Unless you are on T-Mobile or AT&T, it's difficult to do what you're saying. I am considering jumping off Verizon when my contract ends in June so I can get something global.

My father has verizon and I have talked with multiple verizon reps and it seems like most of then are pushy any not really intereted in the devices themselves. The latest rep I spoke with said that the s7 didn't have a good camera which seems to be completely off since the s7 has an amazing camera (tested it in stores as well as reputable reviews). I agree with you and was going to switch to Verizon but might not anymore, because of their restrictions and other limited information,
Let's quickly set the record straight on the G4: NONE of the carrier variants allowed for bootloader unlocking--only the H815 "international" model had this as an officially supported option (which btw, is not the model sold by t mobile--that was h815t and isn't the same). I agree with others here that NOT buying the carrier versions is always the best option. They're carrier unlocked out of the box and provide the greatest flexibility if you travel between countries. They also typically provide a few more cellular frequencies. However, while they may be compatible with AT&T's network, that doesn't mean they have all of the frequencies that AT&T uses (as was the case for the G4). Also for those who may be confused, carrier unlocked has no relation to bootloader unlocking.
Anyway, I would also like to know if there will be a G5 variant with official bootloader unlock support. I wish they would announce this soon!

Question: what about carrier-specific features like T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling? The MXPE didn't support that, but the Nexus 6P and 5X do. Could an unlocked/unbranded LG G5 hypothetically do the same?

unfortunately theres no way to root H831 as of now due to locked bootloader.
Apparently I have been able to root my H831...
I recently had my 4 month old LG 5 overheat and quit working. I returned it to the Cell phone provider (FreedomvMobile) who sent it to Futuretel in Ontario as the authorized repair centre in Canada.
They have informed me that I have rooted the phone and therefore it is not covered under warranty. I did not know what rooting was until I googled it. I have not rooted the phone. They are refusing to fix the phone. They say that the test of the phone is conclusive and that it was rooted. It was not. Does anyone have any idea if there are other causes that would make the technician at Futuretel think that it was rooted? I need some information before I go even further with this ridiculous response from Futuretel. Help!

Well, I went and signed for all it is worth. I still have a G5 in my collection and I would love to get it onto Lineage and let my son use it.

Still no news on rooting h831??
That is a good question. There was finally an update to Android 8.0 for our devices but I wonder if it made it so they can be unlocked and whatnot...
I don't want to be negative, but I guess in the end we will have to sell this device and buy another one, just to have an unlocked bootloader and root

Well, I and my wife upgraded to Galaxy S9s this spring due to a seriously unbeatable deal. Had the G5 supported the AWS bands used by the new carrier we switched to, she would still have been using it but alas, nope.
We still have her LG G5 and my son uses it as an ipod of sorts. I would love to root the thing just so newer OS' can be installed on it as it will never be a phone again so I don't need to worry about things like tap to pay and such. I guess it getting to Android 8 will have to do.
Yeah, I would love to root if possible too but I understand that our device is not popular enough just as H850 is or H830.
Would be trying to sell this device and buy another one then...

Ya, see, there is one general complaint that fits this... I hate that there are so many damned models of each of the main model names... As in there is never really JUST an LG G5 or JUST a Galaxy S9.
If you look HARD enough there is a way to ROOT a H831. You have to use Marshmallow 6.0 and follow a small tutorial that you will find if you look HARD. I am not sure if you can roll back to v6.0 so you can force root but hey all you have to do is LOOK!

LG dev unlock whitelist

I'm a new owner of my very own V30 as of yesterday. For 8 years, I've been the proud owner of nexus devices, starting from the galaxy nexus, then nexus 4, 5, 6p. I've never owned a "common folk" phone such as the v30. But, with Google going off the face of the planet with deleting the 3.5mm jack I just couldn't buy another Google phone (sigh)
So a question : when LG places the v30 on the dev bootloader unlock whitelist, like the v20, will the warranty still be voided if the bootloader is unlocked?
I liked my Lineage aka cyanogenmod, root apps, xposed, tasker. But frankly the v30 is more than good enough stock for me to use day to day (my phone is an oauth key, calendar, media player, web browser, and IOT remote controller, none of which get much benefit from root). Still, it'd be nice to know what to expect from LG.. Reaally for the fact that ad block root was so good.
There used to be a time when oem android was so bad that it was unusable without flashing with your own stuff... And that's very different now. Just wondering.
Agreed about Google removing headphone jack, especially after making fun of Apple doing it a year ago. Hypocrisy much?
What V30 variant did you get? Is yours eligible for bootloader unlock? Either open market LG US998 or H930 are the two V30 eligible for bootloader unlock with full flash commands available. (The T-Mobile variant has "fake" bootloader unlock, with most flash commands stripped out.)
Yes, warranty is voided with that bootloader unlock. You get an unlock code in exchange for agreeing to void warranty, from the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list website.
You can either have warranty or own your phone...
Motorola does the same thing, for their phones which are eligible for bootloader unlock.
Sent from my official open market LG US998 V30+
Depending which version you have it may not get unlocked at all. I've got the H930DS and there's a good chance it will never be unlocked.
Also regarding warranty it depends a lot on which country you are in, if it is the US then yea, you will probably lose warranty completely. In a lot of other countries they cannot legally void the hardware warranty for software modifications. It also matters which distributor is providing the warranty service or whether it is LG themselves, not all distributors are the same.

see ChazzMatts posts in various threads... his info is tight.
this phone is great out of the box, but man is it WAY better when it's got root and the right ROM... speaking for myself. so, depending on which variant you have, the old days may be possible for you.
i was a flashaholic somewhat, but on this phone US998 unlocked, i got lucky that the first ROM I've flashed will [hopefully] be my last. exactly what i wanted. and with the tweaks it flies, fastest phone I've ever used. the audio is SPECTACULAR... talking about the WETA rom, the one mentioned above. really super happy over here. i am honestly surprised how everything fell into place on this new phone project. now to sell my HTC10. the audio (and display) on the V30 is light years ahead of the HTC if that's saying anything.

Unfortunately I have a h932 (tmo version). So that's how it is... Meh I'm not in too big a need for the unlock especially since it's a newish released phone and there's always a chance there's a recall. I was just curious if LG typically opens up their older product line for a potential unlock in the future.
Thanks for the info!
The only way the Tmo version gets a Bootloader unlock is either Engineering Bootstack being released in the wild or someone cracks the security. Unfortunately the likelihood of any of that happening is slim to none. Either replace it with a US998/H930 or be happy with never getting root/unlocked.
With that being said, there really isn't much dev going on for this phone unfortunately and I doubt that will really change much. LG has a lot of negativity from previous failures and accountability so most devs have merely over looked this phone or written LG off completely. Kinda like the failure that is happening over at HTC.
Fortunately there are some sharp and tenacious devs working on the T-Mo models. In the post linked below, @runningnak3d expressed a more optimistic prognosis for the H932. Given his work and skills, and the efforts being made by him and others in that thread, that makes me optimistic too.

If that's true, that's a shame. Lot of devs were working on the LG G6 open market models and the V30 is much better. LG really has a winner with this phone.
I think part of the problem is LG still hasn't officially added the US998 V30 to the LG Bootloader Unlock list (only the H930 and H930G). While waiting for the official announcement, and waiting and waiting... @gwillmer found out by accident the US998 V30 bootloader could be unlocked. How long had all those IMEI codes been in the database? And LG didn't tell us? And the V30+ US998 still can't be unlocked (which is the more desirable model). (I own both.) I think if that had happened (getting bootloader unlock for both) back in November/December, devs would be all over this phone.

I highly doubt without a engineering bootstack or some other hack they will ever get root on that phone. Even if they do, its doubtful it will be much more than that. They have yet to do it on the G6 model so don't expect it here anytime soon.

That's the problem, people (devs/enthusiast) just lost hope/trust in the company in general and this just puts the nail in the coffin. Now we have a new device being released later this year when most people just got their unlocked phones a few months back. LG did great with the V30 but they are being extremely anti developer with their actions, and honestly why wouldn't they be. Their money is in the average consumer which will never care about root/bootloader unlocking.
I really hope this changes for the good and they allow the + to be unlocked but until then, this platform may not have a ton of dev support.
When was the G6+ (US997U) released? It's still not on the bootloader unlock list, either... and wouldn't it have come out well before the V30? I can't seem to find an exact date that it was first listed for sale, but how long would we expect them to wait to add any new phone to the list? There's the Prime-Exclusive version that categorically will NOT get a bootloader unlock, but B&H and BestBuy both sell a factory-unlocked version too.
I'm having doubts that the V30+ will be added to the bootloader unlock list. If they really do it "for developers" then they really only need to support the base model V30, as the PLUS and the ThinQ just add more storage space and the rest of the hardware is identical.

Not sure what you are thanking about. This thread from February 2018 now has a lot of outdated information. We no longer need the LG's approval for bootloader unlock.
This is the 2nd post post where you have just said thank you for information that's not really that helpful any more (outdated). Seems you are padding your post count?
EDIT: YES, NOW WE KNOW. Padding post count so he could spam with ads once he had enough posts. Now he's been banned...
__________
We can't all go back and edit old posts with newer information, which is why there's always a danger to "dig up" old threads like this. What I said 6 months ago may conflict with what I'm saying right now, but that's because of newer information, newer developments. Just this week, H932 T-Mobile V30/V30+ got ROOT. You will find tons of posts where we say that's NOT possible. Well, it wasn't THEN. It is NOW.
Same with bootloader unlock for non-Open Market V30. We thought we needed LG approval. In mid-May we found we don't, thanks to @TxanMoe.

If I understand correctly this is not easy as there is no SD865 firehose leaked which would allow to enter debug mode.
Edited in regards to V50, it seems SD855 leaked and V50 can be unlocked. It is worth monitoring a chinese LG forum: https://bbs.lge.fun/forum-7.htm

Question beat to death - H831 Canadian model.

I just came across a tool called "Octoplus" that boasts being able to unlock bootloaders for various devices that have locked manuf bootloaders not unlockable by traditional means.
Full devices list here: https://octoplusbox.com/en/features/models/
their JTAG device: https://octoplusbox.com/
One of them being the H831 LG G5 Canadian variant which from search experience is a culprit for being locked to shizz.
Does anyone have any experience? Either with their 400$ box, or with just the software?
I didn't really find anything through XDA search, maybe no one has come across this before?
I know this question has been beat to death before, please have mercy on me.
