I think you should read the intruction at custom roms item at this forum.
The best custom ROMs:
ROM Manager
If your device is rooted then ROM Manager is a solid addition to your device. If you haven't rooted your phone and want to then you should check out this guide. Remember, rooting your Android device will void the warranty, so be careful.
ROM Manager does what the name says: it manages your ROMs. It manages them from a simple interface. You can organize and run backups, use your SD card to install your ROMs and flash your recovery. All of these features are free but if you want automatic backups and incremental update zips, you have to pay for a premium account.
Once you have a ROM on your SD card you can go into ROM Manager and securely download it from there. It will track it and give you updates when necessary. If you want to download them from the app itself you need a premium account, which is a bit annoying.

I also rooted and installed my first custom ROM not more than a week ago. It has so far been painless for me. Here's what I did:
1. Install Gingerbreak for 2.2.1+ ROMs. I don't have the link with me at the moment but nothing a quick search won't find. For earlier versions of Android, I think z4root should do the same job.
2. Run Gingerbreak and click root. It will let you know if the rooting process is successful. Gingerbreak also allows you to unroot, should you wish to do so.
3. Install Koush's ROM Manager from the Android Market. Run the app and choose the option to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
4. Save the custom ROM of your choice (I'm currently using Mik's CM7) to your SD card.
5. The easiest way for me was to flash the ROM directly from the ROM Manager interface. There is an option to Flash the ROM and you will be asked to choose the zip file which contains the ROM that you want.
To 'decrapify', just root your phone then install any one of the many apps that can uninstall system apps. I use Titanium Backup and it works fine.

[Q] Installing Cerberus root features?

Hi,
I have been struggling with understanding how to install Cerberus root features on my Galaxy S2 without voiding the warranty. When I read on the website, it was stated in the FAQs that root features can be installed without rooting the phone by installing a custom recovery. I started reading about ClockworkMod Recovery and believe that it should serve my needs for custom recovery. Now, before I dive into the actual implementation, I want to understand few questions:
Is it possible to install CWM without rooting my phone? If yes, how?
Does installing CWM voids the warranty? I still have more than 2 years left in my warranty.
How do I install Cerberus after I install CWM? I think it would be by selecting "Install zip from SD card" option in CWM menu.. am I right?
Is CWM the best way of solving my problem? Or are there other better options for custom recovery that I should consider?
My whole objective is to make my phone theft-proof using Cerberus with its warranty intact. I am an absolute noob in this area and even reading so many threads on the forum didn't help me clarify all my doubts. Request you guys to please enlighten me.
Thanks,
Anurag

NO

No but CWM requires root to work so end result is YES .

Thanks JJEgan. But then is there any other custom recovery option for I9100 which can take care of my requirements? Also, if I root and install CWM, what option should I select from CWM menu - "Apply update from SD card" or "Install zip from SD card"?
If its a zip then its install zip
is there any other custom recovery option for I9100 which can take care of my requirements?
Sorry no idea .
PS any root even if removed pushes custom rom counter up by one thereby voiding warranty . It can be reset though .

i installed cerberus a couple of days ago, and installing it is no different from any other app from the market, the only difference is, when you have a rooted phone, you will have an app on your phone called "Superuser" that installs a binary to your phone, that allows other apps like "CWM", "CERBERUS" "SETCPU" etc to have root access.
So when you install cerberus, and you phone is rooted, the cerberus app will ask superuser for root permissions, to which you can allow and get some added features. it has nothing to do with CWM, even if you have the .apk file and WANT to install it manually, you just need to put it on your internal SD, then you will have the option to install it once you select it in your file browser.
if not rooted, you can still install cerberus, just wont have ALL the features.
p.s done a test run on cerberus, really really annoying!!! and dumb thing about it is, when you take a picture, it emails it to you, and because your email is synced on the phone, the phone recieved the pictures, which is then able to be deleted via the phone... and i wasnt able to turn the gps on, even though i am rooted. there has to be a better one.
There's plenty of security apps that work without root.
Where's My Droid, Android Lost and PhoneLocatorPro amongst others.

Actually, my doubt is to figure out a way so that I can make this app factory reset proof and also have the warranty intact. I think I have some idea about it now, will post more details once I successfully implement it.

For root users flashable zip cerberus package: ******/1hTpTj after flash, you might download newer (disguised) version from cerberusapp.com

Root felhasználóknak, volt pár probléma az alkalmazás rendszeralkalmazássá alakítása során, ezért feltöltöttem egy megmaradt régebbi flashelhető verziót, innen letölthető: *******/1hTpTj Flashelés után tudod frissíteni a legújabb verzióra a cerberusapp.com-ról a disguised verziót letöltve. [Q] instaling ROM from phone/SD-S3 I9300

Hi, i'm new in this so i just need answers for couple of questions.
1. Can I flash new ROM from phone storage or does it have to be from SD card?
2. If i flash from SD, will new ROM be installed on phone storage or SD card?
3. When i do that, will all my data be deleted from previous ROM?
4. When i flash ROM do i need to again root my phone and install titanium backup?
5. what Custom ROM's are really good? your suggestions
1. Can I flash new ROM from phone storage or does it have to be from SD card?
depending on what kind of custom recovery you are using, you can install it from internal phone storage and sd card. Use philz touch recovery to have both storages available for you to choose roms from
2. If i flash from SD, will new ROM be installed on phone storage or SD card?
if performing a clean flash all data from phone would be lost as the primary step itself is to wipe data. Data on external sd card remains intact as long as you dont format it from recovery
3. When i do that, will all my data be deleted from previous ROM?
all data would be lost when you do a data wipe and devs take no responsibility for any loss wrt to your phone or data and so their piece of advice before you flash ANY rom or mod is to : Back up Back up and Back up. Use titanium backup to retain apps and a nandroid backup from recovery to be on safe side and stay away from after effects of a bad rom flash.
4. When i flash ROM do i need to again root my phone and install titanium backup?
rooting phone again is not required after installing custom roms since they already have the SU binaries included when the rom is cooked. Installation of Titanium back up after every rom Installation is must cuz itz an app on your phone memory
5. what Custom ROM's are really good?
again depends on what you like to see on your phone. If you like having the stock look on your phone and still enjoy benefits of using a rooted custom rom go for roms based on sammy firmwares. If you want to go a step ahead and have a nexusish look on your phone and be more open source go for CM and AOSP roms
thats not all. XDA has a lot of threads about flashing roms and recoveries. Do a lot of reading and proceed carefully at your own risk before playing with your phone.
Cheers
Well its so easy..
1- yup you can..
2- no it will be installed on te phone..
3- most of the roms are rooted.. but you can instal supersu.zip to root it or update the root panery, and you mostly will not lose the costem recovery..but some romes offer to download custom recoverys..
4- i think temask's unofficial cm11 is good.. and you can install omega touchwiz rom..:good:

Root only for Desire 610
Hello I a newbie and I am not sure what was requested as I read the title.
I need a root only phone to allow the use of the SDcard all because of the obstructive file system restrictions applied by Google in Android 4.4.2.
The File fix apps from Google Play Store all require Root status before they can do their work. Backing up the phone is much simpler too.
Can anybody help please? PLEASE?

Just flashed TWRP and Installed SU- restoring backup from LG backup.. few questions..

first off- how do i remove that warning on boot about bootloader?
2- whats the best backup method, im interested in custom roms- but restoring of apps and setting would make me more interested to switch around and test a few
3- any reccommended custom roms?
4- what are the best apps for root, first time ive really decided to dive in, when i had my M8, I wasnt mature and didnt get most the jargon. I breezed through this root.
5- anyway to avoid IAP?

1. You can't, unless you re-lock the bootloader. But you won't have root and custom backup.
2. Twrp and for apps titanium nackup.
3. Look the root threads there's starting to build up
4. Adaway, titanium backup, xposed, etc. Search top root apps there's many.
5. Google play> setting> require purchase> click never.

To add to what previous poster said, if you're looking to try different roms to see which is better I highly recommend using dual boot. Using this you can keep stock as primary and set up multiple custom Roms to test out. Make sure you check out the dual boot thread in the development section for g5. As for recommended custom rom, I personally recommend using resurrection remix by gwoulf (and just be careful there are 2 different RR Roms, actually 3 if you count the one based on Android 6) as it is very stable (based on cm 14.1) and has tons of customizations. I agree using titanium backup to back up all apps and app data. I do not recommend backing up system data, only user apps. Also buying donation package is worth it as it allows you to automate the app installs when restoring. Best thing to do is read through the different threads in development section on here.
