Charging Questions - someone test? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

First I don't think anything is wrong with my device but just curious if anyone else noticed this.
1. Fully Powered off device
2. Plug in charger (little battery charging icon animates)
3. This is where it gets strange I let it get to 100% but didn't unplug it (left it plugged in all night like I usually do on all my devices) , next morning I check the charge and it showed 97%
so I assume the phone circuitry shuts off the charger after it's fully charged to prevent overheating or whatever, or the charger shuts off, strange why I got a 3% drain though with it completely off...
so far I have only tried with the official charger and cable, curious if anyone else had this issue.
besides for that the battery in this device seems good I can get about 1 day 1/2 moderate / heavy use out of it

Perhaps it's the boot animation etc?

I guess it could be if it runs in the background , it just was strange to me since my samsung tablet will always show 100% even if I leave it plugged in forever, maybe lithium-ion (samsung) and lithium-poly (xiaomi) have different charging rules like maybe you can't float charge lithium poly (just guessing)

Re: Battery Drain While Charging
Has anyone else experienced this?
This is the first time I've had this happen to me....
Sometimes while charging my phone....I'll leave it idle for maybe an hour, and when I go to check my messages, I notice I've lost 10% of my charge while the phones "charging."

Are you charging using the stock charger? USB cable?
That sure sounds like a bad charger... or you have some kind of hardware short? My phone only loses about 10% in 7-8 hours. I can't imagine it on a phone that is plugged in and charging.
I read somewhere that once the phone reaches 100% it discharges slightly in order to protect the battery. My phone drops down to 95% after it reaches 100% then charges back up to 100% again.

I think it may be a bad charger.....Because if I leave my phone idle on the home charger (It's the oem one) it will eventually lose battery power.
But on a sidenote, I have my phone plugged into my usb right now and it is charging appropriately. But whenever I use the phone to text, or whatnot, it either stays charged at the current percentage, or it slowly loses power (albeit 1-2% every 10 minutes)
I've never had any of these problems before
ive experienced this a couple times. i charge it over night and when i wake up in the morning its at like 96%. when that happens i just unplug it, and plug it back in and eventually charges to full and it stays that way. i dont know why that happens, and it happens sporadically so i can't pinpoint the exact cause

This is the norm for me.
I am experiencing a worse version of this problem... I no matter whether I plug my phone into the wall charger that came in the box, or via usb, it actually loses charge while it is "charging". I have had it completely drain the battery while on charge. I've killed all applications, and the problem still exists. The only way around this is to turn the phone off completely while it is charging- which is something I feel I should not have to do. Not found a solution online yet...

[Q] Run Ace from houshold AC wall outlet?

I'm wondering it would be okay to remove the Ace's battery and run it on the AC power adapter that charges the battery.
I have read about battery issues here since I got my Ace a few weeks ago. I'm a little disappointed that the charging circuitry isn't smart enough to stop current fed to the battery when the phone signals that it's fully charged. Because of that it's recommended NOT to do what most people probably do... leave their phones connected to the AC charger overnight.
But I haven't been able to find anything on whether or not it would be harmful to pull the battery so it won't overcharge, and run the phone directly from the AC adapter. I didn't realize the phone had such a great radio receiver. I'd love do for long periods of time what I've been doing briefly from time to time on battery... plug it into the audio input for my stereo and play the radio, MP3s, audio from YouTube videos etc.... but powered by household AC.
Anyone know if there'd be any issues doing that?
I tried it , doesn't work unfortunately .
Ace-ing all tests.
Well it was a thought.... Thanks.
My old nokia dumbphone can do that
Btw the phone is smart enough to not overcharge even if u leave it plugged overnight. Its called trickle charge or something, when battery is 100% full it'll stop charging, and when it discharge to 99% it'll charge again till 100% and the cycle continues. Moreover when phone shows 100% charged it was lying all along, to prevent sudden overvoltage. Maybe its just 95% when it showed 100% full

Do you have any links to pages that detail testing that? I googled for quite a while and only came up with a couple hits that said suggested the opposite. But it seems Samsung and the Android OS would be smarter than that.

That sure sounds right. I downloaded an app that displays battery charge by percentage increments. After charging the Ace until it gave an audible notification, within seconds the battery indicator dropped from 100% to I think 87% and stayed there for quite a while.
Well I found a stress test on the Galaxy Ace that says, "The battery contains a microchip that protects it from short circuits and overcharging."
But again I came up with this information saying, "... never put your phone for charging over night as this may hamper the battery’s life very badly..."
There must be definitive info out there on the phone's charging circuity. But I haven't found it yet.

Charging Question

The battery does not charge to 100 %, this is not a defect in the phone but rather a sort of internal protection so as to not damage the battery. Indeed, it happens many times to leave the phone connected to the charger much more time necezzario.
The battery by doing so you may receive a surplus of energy than necessary, and in the long run, deteriorate more quickly. Samsung has inserted inside the Galaxy S3 a limiter that operates in the following way: while the phone is charging, you download slightly of 2-3% for then recharge automatically up to 100 %. This process is repeated automatically from your phone until it is removed from the charger.
Use this app.for monitoring battery ; https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNjYzcxLmJtdyJd
If necessary make a battery calibration uses these applications ; https://play.google.com/store/search?q=calibration&c=apps
While plugged in go to settings/battery and see if it is ac charging or usb charging....I've had this problem with the new cable and plug, it only charges at usb rate, use my old S1 charger now, BlackBerry one worked for me as well

Hmm, im not talking about when it charges at 100 % im talking about when it charges in mid ranges like 50 or 80. It shows charging but an hour passed but it didnt even increase to 2 percent
Are you on an original rom or a custom / leaked one?
Have you tried another charger or computer?
It may take some time to charge on slower chargers (the ones only outputting 0.5Amp) but it definitively should not be discharging when connected to a charger with the screen off.
Im on stock firmware. Using the wall outlet ti charge the phone

Z2 Battery will not charge to 100 %

Hi there anyone have any ideas been using my Z2 since last Friday and yesterday for some reason the device will not charge to 100 % only goes up to 96%
I have tried a different charger and still get the same problem , Also downloaded Sony pc companion software and run the repair tool to see if it resolves the issue and still same problem
Try discharge battery to 1-2% (some advise even till auto-off device) and then fully charge with bundled charger.
Mine does the same thing, don't worry.
The reason this happens is that once your battery is at 100%, it stops charging automatically, and the device waits for it to get down to 99% before starting to charge again.
Is it possible that you just keep catching it at 99%?
Mine will charge about 1% every four minutes until it hits 99%. Then that last one percent takes a couple of hours. This is according to the power/percent list in gsam. It's done it consistently from day 2. Day 1 it failed to charge beyond 80% overnight.

thanks for your help I will try a full discharge and then try charging it and see how it goes
Finally battery is flat the phone turned off , charging it now with the sony charger which came with the z2 , will let you know what happens
I did a live chat with sony and they say the device is faulty and needs to be repaired
I have rang my network provider and they will send me a new z2
96% charge and wont charge no more!!
would really like to understand what is the solution to the problem.
This is really annoying . Please need all possible inputs.
Do you think its a product issue and needs to be replaced with a new piece.
Mine charges, but...
My Z2 will charge to 100%, but after it gets to 95% the screen turns on, and stays on.
If I push the power button on the phone to turn the screen off, the screen will turn off for between 0.5-1.5 seconds, and then turn itself back on.
I have gone through quite a few settings on my phone and can't find anything that might affect this other than perhaps "Night Mode" - which I have disabled.
Please help, my provider refuses to replace my phone even though I got it brand new from them and it's only 21 days old... I do love the phone, I just hate this issue - I can't leave it charging over night, or run the risk of having the phone over heat (it happened once, this is how I first found out about the problem, I had to leave the phone off with a fan on it for a good hour before it was cool to the touch again.)
@The Midnighter
I think you have a faulty unit, mine (2nd one) doesn't even overheat unless I have severe CPU/GPU intensive apps running. Never had a charging problem either... Get it replaced mate
I always charge the phone power off, when it is full charged I get the vibra notification and the phone is 100%.

I forgot to mention - you reminded me.
When I leave my phone off and plugged in, it will charge to 100% - however I have to do a HARD RESET every time I go to turn my phone back on, after turning it off. (Holding power and volume up) or it sticks on the "SONY" screen and will not advance.
Since xperia S there is a feature which helps battery keeping good condition
Its charge to 100% and turns charging off till 95%
Its all becouse integrated battery
This is not a bug or problem

It is indeed a problem, because the screen is staying on and causing my phone to over heat - it once over heated so badly because of this I had to leave the phone off for a very long time.
The phone doesnt charge at 100% and the magnetic charger not work

I have the exact problem. The phone work ok for a few days and then stop charging at 92% and the screen stay on. I plug the charger in the night and in the morning was only at 92% and hot, very hot.
A few days ago I bought a dock charger and an usb cable to plug in the magnetic lateral charging port. And with both chargers the phone shows the charge icon for a second and desapear for another second and repeat the loop.
I try everything in the software level. Restore the firmware using pccompanion and also flash the lollipop firmaware but the problem persist. Just not tried delete the battery stats because my phone is not rooted yet.

Did u manage to fix the problem? Or did anyone here manage to fix the battery charging issue? Mine charges to 78%, then sometime 85% then hard-reset - 91%. Cant charge anything above that! : <
There's no real fix, you can only hope a rollback to KitKat might help. See this lengthy forum post on the sony forums:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Lollipop-charging-bug/td-p/965384
Spanning from april until right now...
Mine only gets to 70-80% on an overnight charge.
Mine charges and discharges constantly, I try change the cable, the AC adapter, the usb on my computer, the micro usb port to magnetic... Always is the same.. and another times charges too good.
Some times charge to 99% and discharge to 98%.. so I disconnect and connect again and charges to 100%
Maybe it's a Lollipop .232 problem in some devices?
Hi! Same problem here, sometimes my phone doesn't charge to 100% and I have to unplug the charger and plug it in again to get 100%. I think it's pretty common, but if your phone only charges till a low percentages and just doesn't charge further, it might be so that the phone's afflicted with the Lollipop charging bug. We can only wait for Marshmallow then

[Q] Battery Wtf

So i just played with Custom ROMs to find the best for me...
But from one point my Phone f*cked up the battery detecting...
CM9 and CM9 detect the battery at 45% and then he Level instantly just drop to 0%...
I cant even restart my phone, so i guess the battery really went out...
So how can i fix, that the ROM would not detect it 45% but 3-4% ?
And let me fully chage my phone ?
Stock rom Always Detect it 100% and then randonly the phone shut down in random times (cuz it drops the level to 0%)
I've tried the "Fully-Charge, Fully-Discharge" But the ROM still detect the Battery wrong...
Even tried to delete the battery stats...
Any solution, or idea ?
I currently use CM with the built-in CM9 kernel...
I think its battery problem.use a new battery.ur prblm will be solved

How old is the battery? What charging cable are you using and what is the cable plugged into?
If the battery is more then a year old it could be 'tired' and not holding a charge correctly (trying another known good battery in your phone will determine this, as will trying your battery in another phone, and if it works well you may have more issues to deal with). If you got the phone second hand, you have no way of knowing the battery's history. Repeated overcharging is also not recommended, as well as leaving the battery in very hot places as it can damage the onboard circuitry in the battery.
Cheap aftermarket (non OEM) USB cables are not that great imo, they are generally not as well made and soon get loose connections, resulting in poor connectivity (charging with a bad cable can also damage the battery). Always use the original cable or a good quality aftermarket one, like Belkin.
Charging the phone from a USB port on a PC or laptop (and/or via a USB hub) is not as efficient as charging it directly from a wall mains USB adapter, because the power often gets interrupted. Ideally for the best charge you should turn the phone off and use a wall/mains socket USB lead, so as give a direct, constant, power supply to charge a battery. A typical full charge is done in two hours. If you charge this way and the battery still has issues buy a new one.

First of all, the Phone is manufactured in 11W41 (2011 Week #41) and the battery in 11W39 (2011 Week #39)
I use a tipical Micro USB charger which does not connect to the wall with USB but the cable directly integrated into the adapter...
And the phone's shipped official cable to charge throught my PC...
The battery worked fine before i forgot to delete battery stats and flashed a ROM...
After that, all ROM is getting fake battery data...
After using my phone i noticed:
-When the phone displays 70-80% charge, the battery actually have 10-15%
-When the battery reach 0% the phone not just jumps to 0% but the Phone shut down within a half second (as no more energy)
-When i charge it to 3-4% the phone show 80% again...
-So i can charge it to about 10 or max 15% when the OS detect 100% and does not charge it further more, which prevent me from properly re-calibrate the battery stats, cuz 10-15 will be always the max charge of the battery...
Now i'm looking for some kind of Mod / App that fake the Battery level to the OS (for example lock it to 5% and the OS continue to charge the battery) i know its dangerious cuz if i'm not aware i'll overcharge it and it will die permanently, but i have no better idea ATM...
Update: Sometimes after my phone dies from no remaining electron in the battery It displays 5% charge when i switch it on while connected to a charger (the only way i can switch it on) And starts to increase.. (5-6-7-8 etc..)
But sometimes it instantly jumps up to 70-80% if i think right when the screen switches of..
So i enabled "No-screen-off-whili-on-charger" and letit charging..
Will notice you about the result...

try reflash stock.ics ftf should fix this
Already tried, the Stock rom always showed 100% charge, and when the battery ran out, just powered off...
(Jumped from 100 to 0 instantly)
As i mentioned, in the reply you quoted, today it started charging from 0...
It went good, but somewhy, it just stopped at 26% and not a single volt went into the Battery...
As i Pulled out the Cable, the indicator jumped to 100 instantly...
Can you link several stock ROMs ?
I've tried with the 4.0.4 Android
but maybe the 2.3 can still work with it...

but i think theres some HW damage. even if not rhe battery maybe some config chip is broken or whatever on the board. normally flashing a stock.ics.ftf resloves all software issues, as its resets all stuff to factory..
