Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant - requires active Verizon sim card - Verizon LG G3

I'm using a VS985 with stock Android 35b on it. I'm using this phone on the Tracfone service, which uses Verizon towers in my area. I've been hoping to upgrade to Marshmallow, but from what I've read, the Verizon Upgrade Assistant no longer works for phones that it does not detect an active Verizon sim card in.
I uninstalled the Assistant program and when I reinstalled it, I right-clicked on it and chose "check for upgrade." When the upgrade was found, it gave me the option to "Upgrade device now" and then proceeded to download a large file. I tracked down that file and it appears to be the latest kdz file, called "VS98548A_03_0628.kdz" and is 1.50 gigs in size. However, when I connect my phone to my computer, the Assistant switches from a status of "Upgrade Available" to "Up to Date" after running a "Checking the device information" task. This appears to check online for an active Verizon sim card, as it doesn't work at all if I'm not connected to the internet. I get the same behavior with my Tracfone sim card or the Verizon sim card that came with the phone.
My question is if there is anyway to get this utility to work or if there is an alternative way to install the kdz file it downloaded without rooting my phone. I wonder if there is a way to get the Assistant to work without checking for a active Verizon sim card.

I can't address regarding the official tool - its flaky and I've had that trouble sometimes.
However, you can get the 48A KDZ from my link at the bottom of the first post of @annoyingduck 's stickied return to stock thread in the General section, also in my signature below, and flash it with LG Flash Tool 2014 which that thread is a guide for.
Be sure to read the second post too, I believe it is, if you have any trouble with LG Flash Tool 2014.

[Q] GN2 Will Not Connect back to Verizon Network

Hey guys,
I ran the Suckit Verizon boot unlocker exploit, and it was successful. At which point I used TW Recovery to flash Android Revolution HD 8.0 (N7100 ROM). My phone wouldn't connect to the Verizon network, saying I did not insert the proper SIM card. I found this strange, but realized Verizon locks their network to international phones. I then used the Verizon Toolkit to flash back to stock recovery and ROM. After doing so, I still had no luck in activating my phone.
I called tech support (now having stock everything) and they told me it was likely my SIM card. After spending 2 hours at the store today, it is clearly not the SIM card. They have no idea what the problem is...
When I flashed Android Revolution, I wiped my efs. Could that be the problem? Is it possible to flash a new EFS or COM3? I have no clue how to reactivate to the network..
Anyone have this problem? I did a search on both Suckit Verizon and the Verizon toolkit thread and no one appeared to suffer from this. Please help! Any solutions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Will update if those guys at Verizon come through.
Definitely has to do with wiping my EFS and not saving it. Under Settings > About > Status IMEI is unknown as well as all other carrier info.
Can someone send me their EFS or is their a way to restore the EFS without having backed it up?
Flash the full Odin restore image and that should fix the problem. Note, it will wipe your data and re-lock the bootloader, but it should at least connect to the network again.
If the stock Odin doesn't work since your imei is unknown this may be what you need, but listen to imnuts first

Flashed stock rom. No luck. Now I have to root back, as one of the prerequisites is being rooted. Will get back.
I kind of had this same problem right after I rooted/unlocked and before flashing any ROMs. I was getting signal bars but kept getting a cannot connect to network error every time I tried to place a call. I called customer service and they "reset" my account, whatever that means but it still didn't work. Started driving to the Verizon store and decided to try one last factory reset and it started working! An IT guy at my work said the account reset plus factory reset got my device sync'd with Verizon signal again. Don't know if what he said is true...don't know why it worked...don't know if this will help you but I thought I would share my experience. I know what you are going through so good luck!

I had almost the same problem using MIUI for AT&T's variant. I was able to get most functionality back by accessing the hidden menu and doing the ##RTN#, but still cannot get 4G LTE back. Maybe this will help you get started too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36163537
According to the OP instructions - which I have done entirely correct. Put phone in Debugging, Went to Qualcomm settings in Hidden menu and set to "RMNET + DM + MODEM" , connected to the proper COM port, clicked the READ on top, however when I go to click the second read to populate the information -> Says cannot set device into DM mode.
The instructions and accompanied video do not reference having to place the device into DM mode at all. The fact that I am getting this error message is also a unique problem.
Anyone know what this could mean or how to fix it? Could it be due to the USB Qualcomm settings not "taking or shifting", although it does confirm that I changed by saying "Saved"
Also, can Verizon Wireless sync my IMEI in store if I bring the original box with the IMEI barcode on it ? Can they flash / scan it to the phone?
anybody?
Can Verizon Wireless sync my IMEI in store if I bring the original box with the IMEI barcode on it ? Can they flash / scan it to the phone?
I know with a fact that the stores do not carry any flashing software for any smartphones. So there is nothing they can do.

[Q] restored to stock firmware for verizon 4.1.1 now i cant even detect ota updates

ok. so i wanted to restore my galaxy note 2 to stock to give it to my dad because he works in the US but we live in canada. i used this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040264
to do it. they only had 4.1.1 so i say "no biggie, ill just use the OTA" everything goes well. but my dad called Verizon so they could transfer his number onto the note 2 without a sim card (because the note was originally for use with Verizon). they said everything went ok. so i reset it to stock. and two things go wrong 1) every time i try to check for an OTA (while connected to wifi) it tells me " go to settings>about phone when service is available to update" and wont let me check for new updates. 2) the service wont show up, it just says no sim card installed. i cant take it to Verizon or Samsung to fix it because it was rooted before. is there any way i can fix this?
extra details: its in canada right now, so it might not be connecting to the network maybe? and do you need to be connected to the network to be able to update (not wifi, but the actual sim network)?

Two G5s, one has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't

I'm puzzled ...
I have two G5s (the wife uses one), both are UK, carrier-free, and seem to be identical. One has OTA updated to Oreo, the other hasn't and shows no inclination to do so. There is one difference though, they run/ran slightly different versions of Nougat:
The one that updated was previously running v20v-EUR-XX. The one that won't runs v20r-234-10. I don't know what that build is. It has previously received incremental updates to Nougat with no problem. Is it somehow an invalid region to receive an Oreo update?
Both phones were bought used, so I don't know their exact history.
If it's not going to update OTA then I will try flashing the update. TBH there's almost too much information here about flashing ROMs - I'd like to know the simplest way to flash a stock ROM, I don't want a rooted phone (been there, done that, fun, but banking apps etc. I depend on won't run). My desktop & laptop run Linux, so Windows-based tools won't help (unless they'll run under Wine ).
TIA to anyone who can help me out here.
LG H850 Oreo Update
ONLY LG H850(GBR) and H850 (VDF) received the Oreo Update.
Thanks, so what region is 234-10? Doesn't seem to correspond to any listed ROMs.
Any pointers to the best simple no-frills flash guide?
Looks like yours have branding, check which operator folder you got in "cust" folder.
Thanks for the hint.
The cust folder contains stuff on all UK operators. I don't entirely understand how this info works, but in op_list.cfg is the line 23410,O2=/OP/TLF_COM, which I guess means it was originally O2 branded. There's no trace of anything O2 on it now, but it would have originally shipped with AOS 6, and had already received 7 when I got it. That upgrade probably dropped anything specific to O2.
Is there any way to hack this so it appears to be running generic EUR software, or do I have to manually flash it to get 8?
Thks
There is GB euro open version but when I tried on my EE g5 it install french orange "jeus" app plus crap from Vodafone Romania, on the top of that you will get pop up error every time you restart your mobile about wrong customisation or something like that , other than that I loved oreo. Because of above I revert back to original ee software and just checking for update. G5 is not my primary phone so I don't have pressure about. EE was always slow on updates so this is normal in that case, not sure about other UK operators.
The EUR-XX build runs OK on my other G5, it updated OTA. This phone with O2 region code is not on O2 any more - I don't think it was ever carrier locked, but must have been bought from O2 originally. So even if O2 builds do update OTA, presumably it will only happen if they've got O2 SIMs in - I don't really follow how all this stuff works!
How did you install the ROM you tried out? I'm still trying to understand what the various tools being touted actually do.
I have the same problem.
I have an H850 with an unlocked bootloader and rooted.
There is no OTA update.
When I check on https://imei.guru/ I get:
Model: LGABCD
Region: ABC
When I check on https://proimei.info/en/checker/lg I get:
SUFFIX AO2UTN
BUYER O2U
BUYERNAME O2
I can try LG Bridge but I don't want to cause any issues since I'm rooted and the bootloader is unlocked.
Do I ned to use LG UP instead? And will I lose my data?
Any suggestions very welcome.
Thanks
As you're already unlocked and rooted, it should be a simple matter to flash a new system ROM. AFAIK you won't have to lose data. It's when you unlock the boot loader that it wipes all data.
In my case I don't have root, and I don't want a rooted phone after an upgrade. I'd prefer not to have to wipe and restore if possible too, but I can't work out how to do that.
I downloaded kdz and flashed with lg up, you can try if you really want oreo before O2 release. In worse case you can wait, and it doesn't matter what sim is in the mobile, when update is ready you will receive notification, I got different sim in my old g5 and previous updates was downloaded and installed without any problems.
Ah, thanks for that, maybe I'll just wait for O2 to get their act together! I can't use LGUP as I don't run any Windows machines, I'm all Linux. The closest I can get is XP running in a VM, but even though I can map a USB port into the VM it still doesn't recognize either of my devices. Uppercut doesn't help either .

Which LG UP did you use?
Because this thread recommends not using LG UP and using UPPERCUT instead.
However, VirusTotal shows lots of issues:
https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/d...366b6643a5922cd3b09a3b1a9296b8c0a8f/detection
and so I would prefer to use LG UP instead, if it's compatible with H850.
Thanks
I can't remember exactly which LGUP I used, I tried a couple. A bit worrying about the virus reports in uppercut, one advantage of running in a VM, I can always just trash the image and go back to the previous state.
As I understand uppercut, it doesn't replace LGUP, just tries to fix some device detection issues then launches LGUP to do the actual update. But that still didn't work

Hi,
I used version 1.14.3 (apparently this is the latest).
I flashed my g5 H850 several times as I wasn't sure if this bloatware from VDF Romania and french operator Jeux wasn't a issue of incorrect files. After all exercises i back to original EE soft.
All that with LG UP. I tried to use uppercut but my antivirus report as well on this so I don't bother and just use LG up.

Thank you.
Did you use the LG UP from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/uppercut-lgup-loader-g5-variants-t3511295
Because I that's the version I used but unfortunately on my PC it cannot detect my phone.
I'm not sure from where I downloaded, when I was looking for latest version I just search through google. Are you sure you have all drivers installed? Did you plug in your phone in download mode?

Ah - helpful tip! Because of the other messing around I'd been doing, it was in debug mode, D'oh I've got further, but still baulking.
From other threads re. XP and VMs, I found I needed to install an XP USB 3 driver, and switch to a USB virtual port in the VM. With all that, launching LGUP 1.14 via Uppercut the phone is detected and I can start an upgrade process.
It reboots the phone, which then displays the Firmware Update screen, but stays resolutely on 0%. LGUP shows "Build : U" as the step with progress at 4%. After 11 minutes it times out with a popup saying "Error: 0x2000 [ERROR] RX Timeout : 3.0". The barely readable little console window on the phone starts off with some info about the phone, then changes to simply "633E 1B00" after a couple of minutes.
I've tried using both physical USB 2 & USB 3 ports on the PC.
Any ideas?
Thks
Try to use lg up without uppercut, maybe your pc is a bit slow on vm. Once i startet flashing with lg up the whole process take about 5 min. Do you have hdd or ssd on your pc? Also check if there is no restriction for vm regarding size, make sure drive space is big enough. Also try to assign at least 2gb of ram for vm and if you have multi core cpu try to assign at least two cores. I believe if you will tweak settings on your vm it should be good to go. Check for vm tools update if needed update to latest.
LGUP without Uppercut doesn't work, it won't recognise the device. That's the only reason I downloaded Uppercut to start with.
I'm pretty convinced it's a USB connectivity problem. When the phone reboots there's no USB, then the USB interface comes up again, and LGUP has to continue talking to it in firmware-update mode. There are issues with the way the USB device is being captured by the VM. For some reason the MTP interface is still exposed to the host even though VBox says it's captured by the guest. In VBox terms this shouldn't happen, an interface is either accessible to the host, or is mapped to the guest and invisible to the host.
MTP is a bit of a weird beast though, and I think there's some black magic going on with the way this Linux (Ubuntu 18.04) is grabbing MTP devices. I've been trying to turn off every rule relating to Vendor 1004, Device 633e, as well as defaults, but it still has some magic default that means it spots an MTP device. I'm sure this is blocking proper communication through to the XP guest OS.
I shall keep tinkering ...
Well, I got it to work! I could not stop the host from seeing the USB interface, no mater how much of MTP I disabled, but the solution was to disconnect and re-connect the USB device to the VM, after the phone rebooted into flashing mode and LGUP was waiting to re-connect. I did it a couple of times, second time the connection to LGUP succeeded, and flashing completed in 3 - 4 mins.
Well that's it done on my spare slightly-broken test phone - I collect these things! - (took it from AOS 6 to 8), now to take a deep breath and do it on my real device I depend on. Time to back everything up again

Verizon Voicemail issue on U1 flashed S9+ with Visible carrier

Hi all,
Alright so this is going to be a long post. So I recently flashed my phone to the U1 firmware, I currently have an unrooted Verizon Unlocked Samsung S9+. I wanted to switch phone carriers over to Visible (subsidiary of Verizon), here are the order of events that occurred:
1. Visible's website says that my device in not compatible using their IMEI checker, there is a solution that was found on reddit about flashing the device on the U1 firmware.
2. I flashed the device on the U1 firmware using Odin and the Visible SIM card worked as expected. No issues with the flash
3. Data/Texts etc.. are all working as expected. Except for Voicemail.
When I try to check my Voicemail, it is acting as if it's still on the Verizon Voicemail system. It says "Welcome to the message management system, please enter your mailbox number". No one can leave me a VM either because of this. I tried several different combinations of numbers, including my full 10 digit cell number and last 4, to which it says "XXX is not a valid mailbox number", which would be because my number is no longer active on Verizon, so it's unable to access it. Which makes sense. The Visible Customer Care team tried the following:
1. Provisioning my VM multiple times
2. Take out SIM card, turn phone off for 1 min, insert SIM card again, and toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds
3. Reset network settings
After numerous days of troubleshooting with them, eventually they said it was because my device isn't compatible, ok, I can't argue with that. I have not seen anyone else experiencing this issue that had flashed their phone to U1 firmware.
After trying all of this with them, I eventually factory reset my device, hoping that might do something. That still did not work.
My questions is, is there something I missed with flashing the U1 firmware? Why is it still using Verizon's VM system even though I flashed it to U1? Is there any way to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated, and please don't hesitate if you need any other information.

Please check your voice mail settings in your phone app. See my screenshots.
There you should select the correct service provider and the Visible mailbox number.

Tab S7 LTE (SM-T878U) upgrade issues

Having a hell of a time getting my S7 updated. It's a LTE (Verizon) version yet it does not have a SIM card or data plan active. Whenever I go to check for updates, I'm being told it is up to date. Current Android version is 10. I'd like to get this to Android 13 if possible.
So I tried to manual path. I downloaded Smart Switch per one recommendation, and that does not pop up any "updates available" messaging. I downloaded the Verizon/Samsung upgrade utility and it does not see the device. So my next idea is to use ODIN. Herein lies my problem: I cannot find Verizon firmware (Android 13) for this device. Verizon has a huge guide on the new version but no download links to the firmware to be found. Sammobile does not have it, and the other Samsung firmware sites only seem to have 12.
Any recommendations would be extremely helpful.
