Anyone received the H82011K OTA update? - AT&T LG G5 Questions & Answers

I just received it yesterday at about noon. It has the 2016-07-01 security patch. I noticed after installing it my phone started lagging to a complete stop and rebooting for no reason, in somewhat of a soft loop. I factory reset it and upon restoring my apps found OperaMax to be the culprit as the rebooting issue started again once I opened it. It really sucks as I have a limited data plan and it would obviously last me much longer with OperaMax. I'm not sure who to contact about the issue (I don't think it's Opera's fault as it has worked fine before the update) so I thought I might share it here. OperaMax users be warned of the latest AT&T OTA.

I received it and haven't had any issues of course I don't use OperaMax. I also noticed we now have WIFI Calling
Sent from my LG-H820 using Tapatalk

Perhaps someone with the update can install OperaMax and verify if it causes the issue (don't worry, you should be able to uninstall it between reboots).

I installed Opera Max to see if it would freeze my phone and it did. Considering it's a vpn app maybe the security patch in the ota is what causes the phone to freeze up. Maybe contacting the app developers they can help solve the issue. Good luck!

More info
So I received the update as well. After two hours after installation my phone would reboot every 10 to 20 minutes depending on what was active on the phone. I never used opera max. Well after 8 hours of that going on, somewhere in the middle of the night it managed to reset it self so I woke up to a bright white Welcome Screen. I clicked the next arrow and it restarted and went into a boot loop. After 5 failed boots it would pull back up the welcome screen and reboot again. It did that til the battery drain today. So when I got home I plugged it in and it allowed to set it up. So I call AT&T to complain, and they said well maybe it won't do it again. It rebooted as soon as they said that. They told me I needed to talk to LG so they transferred me to LG Customer Support. They were very rude but since then it hasn't restarted. The phone is crashing because the memory is getting fully used for some reason so I would check other apps as well!

Well H82011K is pretty terrible. It's far worse than ANY nightly rom I have ever flashed so that is a testament in itself. I would think one of the apps you previously had installed before the update eventually caused the phone to go to the s#!thouse because it is a very finicky piece of "official" s#-oftware... To reproduce the issue it may be painstaking, but try reinstalling the apps you had before one by one. That may help you pinpoint which one causes the fatal conflict.

I haven't been able to try. I reset through the "recovery" and when it comes to the welcome screen it may or may not crash but when I click the next arrow and goes to wifi it crashes and restarts. It sucks that I can't find the KDZ files so that I could just flash it back to the previous version.

That is the other problem a lot of us are having is that AT&T won't release a system dump for this phone and it would seem they have been doing so quite deliberately. I would suggest banging on their proverbial door as I have myself about H82011K. Perhaps if enough of us demand a Stock KDZ/TOT they will do the right thing and release one because they know deep down that people switch carriers when they do downright evil s#!t like this.

When I called I asked about how to get it and they said they don't have access to it but lg should since they develop the software. So I called LG and they said they don't have access to because they don't develop the software. I love AT&T but I hate the carrier lock.

So update on my situation. I do have the phone on and I was able to set it up. I haven't install nor updated the bloatware apps. I am posting this with my g5 actually. Anyways I let it die and I charged it back up. Put my sim card back in it. I didn't restore it as back up so I set it up as a new phone. So far so good keeping fingers cross.

Glad you got it up and running. Let us know if/ when it conks out again and what app you may have recently installed so it's publicly logged as another H82011K incompatibility.

Has anyone else noticed that the camera doesn't focus as fast or at all and that the GPS is very slow to lock after the update? Both were flawless until the update...has anyone else noticed this?

Perhaps. My cell signal is definitely worse since the update. Before it, I generally got 3-bar strength. After H82011K, it usually wallows around 1-bar and rarely it reaches 2.

Ok so it has been about 20 hours of use. It has restart once. I was using Facebook. The apps I have is Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, FB Messenger, System Information, and Easy Tether Pro. I uninstalled facebook.

So another update. The phone has been good all day but it has reached 28? battery and now it decides to restart and it can't stay on for more than 5 minutes without rebooting. I feel like it may not be reading the battery right or something. Also I can't quick charge now ????

Your situation seems pretty bad, I would try replacing the battery or proceed to send the phone back to LG for service.

I'm using the G5 ATT on Cricket. My current software version is H82010h. When I try to update it, it says I have the latest. Do I have to have an ATT sim in the phone to have the update work? Does the ATT Sim have to be an active one or any old ATT Sim can grab the update?
Thanks.

Yes it has to have an active sim for AT&T OTA's because it's sent over-the-air by the carrier. It also requires wifi to download it. You can also try the LG Update Tool here http://lg-support-tool.en.lo4d.com to see if it will work.
Instructions: Download and install the*LG Mobile Support Tool on your computer. Open the*LG Mobile Support Tool software. Click*Install USB Driver. Double click your device model from the list. A new window will open showing the download progress of the USB driver. Click*OK*when the download is complete. Connect*your device to the computer with the USB cable. Click*Start Updating*to begin the update. The tool will check for updates, if update is*available it will automatically download and install the updates. The device will automatically restart once the update is complete.

[Q] Gingerbread Update Issues Screen Freeze Keyboard

I am having issues since the phone was updated from Froyo to Gingerbread. The Atrix is rooted and using Go Launcher. The phone worked great under Froyo not a problem once I updated to Gingerbread I am getting the following issues listed below.
1. Screen will randomly freeze nothing will work unless I select he power button and then wait a couple of seconds it will start working again.
2. The keyboard will randomly display the letter q when I am typing in any text field
I have tried wiping the phone twice which including going into recovery mode and wiping cache as well as doing a full reset. Everything will be fine and then it will start again. I then decided to google up Gingerbread Freezing phone thru google and it seems like everybody is having this issue since the update went through. The posts include the atrix, droid nexus and other android phones. My question is what could be causing these glitches when the phone was working perfectly the day before the update. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks Again
I've got this exact same issue to. There is no way it can be a hardware issue, if I rotate the screen, the area where there are screen ghost touches moves to the same relative place. It doesn't appear to be an uncommon problem either.
Go to the market and try SGS Touchscreen Booster.
Go for Super Optimized setting.
I had the same issue but this app fixed it for me. I have posted a couple of times about it so just check the threads I have contributed to on my profile for more info.

So whqt is the fix for this other than that app? Cuz it doesn't work for me. Should I downgrade to froyo? :-/ all gingerbread versions have this issue? Its just really bothering me. :-/ howcome only certain people are having this problem?
Freezing Gingerbread
I tried everything and nothing worked I finally had a replacement sent and now I have another problem I have border banding within the screen sent another one back and had the same thing. I am now awaiting my 4th Atrix and I am guessing there will be more problems. I had every Iphone prior to this Android phone and never had a problem with a phone. The quality is lacking compared to apple. Thanks

Oh man that's not good. I'm thinking of sending mine in for warranty but I'm afraid of other problems. I never had a problem until this whole touchscreen issue....which we are blaming on gingerbread right? So this should be fixable...
So does the replacement have touchscreen issues and was it shipped to u in gingerbread ?

Replacment of Freezing Phone
I received the replacement and so far it has not had the issues of lag and freeze but now I have border banding on both replacement phones and I am now awaiting my 4th atrix. I am actually getting tired of this I love the phone when it works but the quality of android phones is not up to par with the Iphone. I appreciate the open source of android but the phones from motorola, HTC etc are just mass produced with no quality there is not phone everyday and what happens unlike apple they refuse to support any phone thats older than three months
---------- Post added at 02:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 AM ----------
Forgot yes it had gingerbread installed which I heard is also causing the border banding issue.
---------- Post added at 02:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:25 AM ----------
I restored three times full wipes and same thing its a faulty issue with gingerbread either consuming to much of the cpu or heavy ram cycles. Thanks

Have you guys tried the "PDS partition" fix? Basically, flashing could corrupt a file or 2 in there, causing keyboard problems. Very common in people with unlocked bootloaders (so they flash more than people who are locked).

Did this worked for you? im also having that issue with the touch screen, i have done Pds partition, flashed several roms, wipes, etc. And now for art of magic it does not do the freeze glitch touch screen thing that often, but sometimes it does it but not for too long.
I read from the web that is a Sync internet problem, like consuming cpu or some thing causing that glitches freezes. Still waiting for final fix or workaround :/.
Like previous users this problem happens to me even navigating throu screens moving around, also in the keyboard (wich now i replaced with smart keyboard pro original from the market) this keyboard seems to helped not to have that glitches so often dont know im just saying.
No answears : ( i tried freezing motoblur process some of them, and those freezes of the touch screen were reduced but not eliminated.
Just a small observation
I am the person who suffered the most from this intermittent issue.
After my intensive testing and tracking I have came to a conclusion!!
I'm on CM7. Not sure if this would help.
I guess the issue is caused because of the light sensor. Somehow, when I disabled the automatic backlight settings this has improved a lot!!!!
Try disabling automatic backlight (even if you are not on CM7) and let me know if this have helped.
simialar issue
Have experienced the letter q being ghist hit while typing on Atrix 4G. My big issue is with the phone randomly power cycling on its own, ever since a March update I believe. I have sent the phone in to Motorola twice, both times received it back doing the same thing. They have sent me a new battery to rule that out, that did not work either. Now they have sent me a new "refurb" hand set, an hour and twenty minutes after turning it on it power cycled. The Atrix, as much as I loved it, is driving me crazy at this point. Motorola are now offering to change it for the Atrix 2. Anybody have any idea what could be causing the random power cycle issue?

locking up and rebooting now with ICS.....

Twice now in the last 40 minutes since updating to ICS my screen has locked up in a browser and in a game and then restarted itself..... anyone else?
UPDATE:
- Short and sweet so you don't have to read through 30 pages.
- If your Prime has this problem either
A.) Return to store for refund or exchange and pray you get a newer unit without the different hardware/firmware version
B.) Call ASUS RMA it and pray they can finally get something right.
C.) Sit on your hands while you wait to see if ASUS can somehow figure out a magical firmware patch that will play nice with both older and newer Primes..... all the while getting frustrated with a prime that can be used as a paper weight.
I recommend A I found a new prime from HHGregg and it works just fine and I am finally happy again but still pissed at ASUS for this huge quality control blunder.
update 1/31
here is exactly the reason you do not want to rma to Asus.

Everything has been running great for me. Maybe try rebooting Prime for a fresh start up. might fix it. mine hasn't locked up or anything.
Mine is locking up non stop. I can't even boot to the home screen most of the time. And when it does it'll lock up after a bit and go into more boot loops

Constant locking and rebooting here. Never rooted.
I've done the factory wipe twice. Still doing it.
This time I wiped and didnt sync with my Google account in case its some data thats being restored thats causing it.
Ive had no problems until the update
I updated to ICS last night and it rebooted at least 6 times in 1 hour. Couldn't take it anymore. I've only had the tablet for a week with no issues before update..Hope Asus didn't release a bad update...that would suck.
Thinking about doing a full data wipe and factory reset. Has anyone already tried this?
Just did it again with no apps loaded or anything. Every 20 minutes or so
I loved this tablet until now. I'm so frustrated
Mine's working OK, a few FCs but no reboots or lockups.
I had made a separate post this AM on this topic; but i have the same issue.
not rooted
never had a reboot or issue till last nights update
it boots and loads, i get in for about 1-5 mins and then it locks up and freezes for 10 seconds and does a quick book loop, then repeat.. over and over.
i have so many apps and settings i am dreading a factory reset, since it hasn't worked for anyone else i will hold off..
any other ideas?
---------- Post added at 03:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:02 PM ----------
was thinking maybe we should get our heads together and see if we have a common app or setting that is causing it.
but people have said they did a factory reset and it didn't fix it with no apps, so i am lost.

One clue I may have is that it only happens after the screen is unlocked.. if you leave the screen locked all day it won't reboot.
Once you unlock the screen its like a ticking time bomb. i've tried stopping all running services as well the second i unlock.
same here
same issue here
never rooted
never had issues
once upgraded constant reboots
also noticed google + force close every time.
i guess its not just 1 or 2 people....
hope asus will push another update soon

I can't seem to find a common thread among all of my experiments. I've wiped three times now (third time I got the message about upgrading and updating apps again, but it's still doing it), I've tried wiping and not using any Google accounts, I've tried using my Google account but not restoring, I've tried wiping data in all of my apps, I've tried killing all running services. I've removed my microSD card and it still happens. It also happened to me in all of the power modes. Actually, I haven't tried "power saver."
Seems to happen every 15-20 minutes, but I've also had it happen immediately after a reboot.
I wonder if it's due to the rumored overclock. I hope it's not a hardware issue.
Prior to the update I had zero issues with anything, including GPS or wifi.

my latest attempt is turn on auto brightness and leave it in powersave mode.. its been up 5 mins.. which is a record today.
Probably due to the update not wiping system. Hopefully when ASUS upload the zip to the support site, you'll be able to sort it out. Could be a few days till that happens though.

[Q] OTA Update Fail.

I got my Rezound last week and I'm loving it. Right now I'm running stock, however i will be rooting in the foreseeable future. However i noticed a couple of times when i had to Restart my phone that the recent OTA update would DL only to fail to install. I don't want the update as i've heard and seen it reduces battery life. Should i worry my phone is defective? a couple of more days so i can return it and get another one. Would that be wise? thoughts?
You haven't done anything to it? If you haven't just take it to the Verizon store and have them look at it. If they can't get the update on exchange it. There's no reason why it shouldn't accept the update if you haven't done anything afaik.

I've not done anything, still running full stock. That's what i was thinking, i don't want this to come back and bite me in the ass. Plus i still have the 14 days to bring it directly to verizon. thanks
I am exeriencing the same thing...happened several times; firmware downloads and nothing happens. I reboot and nothin. The phone is stock. The last time after rebooting, it showed a push air thing in the notificication, and when I clicked it nothin happened...oy.
When I check the status, it just shows a rescent date along with the description of the update...and nothing happens when I click check new.
I sorta want the update so I can get rid of the headphone jack noise...and I feel like if I go to a verizon store, not much will be accomplished...hmmmmm

I went to Verizon today and the guy was able to update my phone. I actually didn't want to but eh. I told him what he did and all he told me was "Check Update" and plug it in the to the charger *which is the way my phone had been when i tried updating* and it began to install.
Hmm still nothing happens when I click check new, tried with it charging and unplugged... Might pop into a store later and see what's up, phone keeps freezing on meh! Have any negative experiences from the update so far? I'm weary of that verizon agent thing running all the time

I had the same issue with the "check new" screen just disappearing when I was completely stock. I called verizon a couple days ago and they checked to make sure that I had tried to update with 4G, 3G, 4G w/ wireless, 3G w/ wireless. I had also tried doing a factory reset and pulling the SIM and battery out for 20 minutes. If all those dont work for you, they say you can either get a "certified like new" phone shipped to you or you can get on a 3way call with htc and verizon support to get the issue resolved. You might want to try those things and if still nothing I would call.

New Update - VS99024A?

Just wondering if anyone has any info, as I'm not seeing anything online. Just got prompted this AM to install.
Installed it as well. Absolutely zero info found so far about it
Not even 6.0.1 so it is pretty minimal
Just installed it this morning; in HIGH HOPES they fixed the distorted audio on bluetooth issue.
ISSUE NOT FIXED.

Claims to be security patch. Probably blocking dirty cow exploits...
Hey all I'm the one who posted the first screenshot of this builds update. Unfortunately there seems to be only the security patches updated so i wont be surprised if the only thing they did was break dirty cow...

Try a master reset. I'm doing good after the update now.
I'm having issues with this stupid phone! Miss my rooted HTC One Max. So I've called Verizon because my phone keeps trying to update daily and I was told to do a factory reset and then upgrade. This is the silliest thing I have ever heard. Has anybody else had to do this to take a "minor" upgrade? Not to mention it kills the battery downloading the file everyday over 4G! I get an error message after the phone downloads the update, reboots to install the update, reboots again, and wham-o error message!
my phone was running hot and really burning battery fast after update. I froze dtignite program and it seems to have calmed down.

Mine did the same thing. I found a program - DT Ignite - that was sucking up the battery. I disabled it and things went back to normal. I have Verizon . . . . worth a try before resetting.
This is the last time I am taking an update from Verizon. Battery usage really sucks now. 3g and 4g Data switching is terrible. It leaves me on a crap 4g signal and will not switch over to 3g. Been getting constant phone cut outs where the other person can't hear me until I move around and do the "Can you hear me now" crap. Phone was great in the beginning but is now a piece of ####!

That's what happened to my Note 4. I think Verizon is sabotaging phones to prompt new purchases. At first they told me tough **** on my Note 4. buy a new phone. When I said I wouldn't be renewing my contract, they changed their tune and gave me my V10 as replacement.
is anyone else having an issue with the phone freezing and then restarting?? mine is doing that like every 5 min... i did the update this morning as well
No issues here
My*Verizon V10 was pretty good until the update, then is froze and resets all the time. Finally had to replace it with a replacement but they give me the V20. Will let you know how this goes

Screen doesn't shut off during a phone call

Maybe I missed a setting somewhere but I can't seem to find it. On all of my other phones the screen would shut off during a phone call when you held the phone to your ear, this one doesn't. Is there a setting I missed? I always have to swipe multiple screens to get back to the phone app because of this.
Thanks
My is doing the same things since the last update restarting the phone fixes the problem for a while

I've had this exact same problem for about 6 months now. I backed up my data. Reflashed the latest update after doing a complete factory. Worked ok for a month or so then back to the same problem. It's probably a compatibility issue on the oreo firmware.

Did you consider taking it to Samsung or Ubreak? If the sensor array is defective they'll catch on during their diagnostics. Another choice is to trade it in.
Hey man sorry for the late reply. I actually didnt think about that. I think it's a software issue though, because when I flash it and do a clear in recovery it works ok. I'm going to wait till pie comes out and do a cache, data clear in recovery after flashing the official pie. If issue still appears then I'll take it to samsung so they can run some tests on it.
