Need help with rooting LG G3 VS985 - Verizon LG G3

I have the LG G3 VS985
6.0
47a
When I activated my phone, Verizon started the automatic update. It upgraded to 47a, and was going to upgrade to 48a, but I turned it off. I've rooted the G3 in the past using LGFlashTool V1.8.6.527, but now when I try, it says "Model Information Check Fail".
Here are the files I used:
DLL: LGVS985_20140620_LGFLASHv160.dll
S/W: VS98510B_03.tot
Driver: LGUnitedMobileDriver_S51MAN313AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.13.2
Any suggestions?
Thanks

That's the wrong driver, that's for other G3s. Search LG's website for VS985 and you'll find the right driver.
That's the wrong .DLL too. First, check if the tiny VS985 model printed under the battery has a K after it, like VS985WK. If it does, you can't downgrade it.
If it doesn't, use the newer .DLL at my Android File Host link at the bottom of the first post of @annoyingduck 's stickied return to stock thread in the General section, and in my signature below.
Stock 35B and above require the newer .DLL to downgrade to the 10B TOT, and only 35B and higher KDZs can be flashed (until rooted and flashed a custom Bootstack).

So tried to flash 10b on vs98547a. While in download mode I can get the LG flash tool to hit 4% then it stops ideas?

You're welcome! I'm just happy to hear you had success. Thank you, that nice of you! I'll add you to my queue of thanks in my tablet ROM thread whenever I get around to editing my OP of that.
There's no rooted 48A based ROMs yet but there may be in the near future. @xdabbeb 's stock rooted 47A firmware, and his 35B-based VS985 v2.0.0 are the best options out there in my opinion.
Use the built in LG Backup to make trying different stock ROMs relatively painless.

FNG 2 Rooting
I've had my G3 VS985 (48a) for a year now. Until recently it has been acting strange ie: ads on my wallpaper and I cant remove them, notification sounds i've never heard of in my media player and I cant delete them...
This has made me feel like I have no control over my phone.
So, I want to root my phone and install a custom ROM (not sure which one - would love some advice on this) an extra security app and whatever else I can but every video I watch uses a Windows PC and I have a Mac. Does anyone know of a video I can follow step by step? I noticed there is a TowelRoot option but I dont know how to install a custom ROM this way.
Thanks in advance! +1

There's no option for you without a Windows computer, and don't try it with emulation. 48A can't be rooted so far so downgrading is your only option, and software to downgrade is made by LG only for Windows.
You could try a Factory reset though, if uninstalling what Verizon's DTIgnite installed on it's own and using Android's built in app manager to disable as many of Verizon's bloatware apps as it lets you doesn't help.

And I would recommend @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0.0 ROM.

What about this video from Androidroot.us.com? It is a step by step one click root process for Mac owners.

Does it say it works on 48A? What worked on 47A doesn't work on 48A so unless it says it does then it likely won't.

OK. So the last video is out of the question. What about this site? http://myrootsolution.com/pricing
Trustworthy?

Let's put it this way, unless they specifically say it works for the latest VZW G3, it probably doesn't.
Believe me, if there was another way to do it, it would be posted here. XDA members are PDQ (pretty darn quick) to post findings like that. If it's not listed here, more than likely it doesn't work.
Or, you could try yourself, but I wouldn't recommend it if that is your only phone.

? i have the vs985. installed the lg bridge & the lgup ,with the dll installed first. the phone when plugged in(proper drivers) says unknown model, but com port says vs985. Ideas? because i want to downgrade to 5.1 so i can root and twrp. any help is always appreciated.
If their is any other way to root I'll try it. All previous methods don't work(47a). Also should I try to do the newest Verizon it's & then root?

Hi, I need a refresher
I just received a replacement LG G3 and I'm trying to root it by downgrading. I am trying the LG Flash Tool method like I did with my last G3
Here's what I have so far:
Software: VS98554AA
Version: 6.0
DLL: LGUP8974.dll
S/W: VS98510B_03.tot
Driver: LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.1.1
If these are the right files, I just need help with the Flash Tool. I've done all the steps correctly, but every time I get a message saying "Failed PreviousLoad()".
Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

Never mind, I tried it again and it worked

I'm trying to use the LG Flash Tool, but it says either "Login for LGST users" or "DLL for megalock not found"

Thanks
What build of the official LG ROM is it on? Do you want root?
If you do want root, and not on 35B, don't take any OTAs. If 35B, you can root using Kingroot. No one knows how to get TWRP working when rooting from 35B, though. If on 35B and you want TWRP, use the TOT method to downgrade to 10B, then root using the Stump app, use TWRP Manager to put TWRP on, then flash whatever ROM you want.
If it's not on 35B, use either the TOT or KDZ method (I prefer KDZ method) to downgrade to 10B, then root and put TWRP on the same way as above.
Thanks man. It'll be here Friday, noob alert. What is the 35b ( and other variants I've seen for that matter ) pertaining to? Where can I find it? Assuming maybe a build number.

It's how LG designates their ROM builds. On the VS985 G3, 10B, 11C (I think it was) and 12B were all KitKat. 23C and 24B were Lollipop 5.0.1. 35B is 5.1.1.
You can find that information on any Android phone in Settings / About phone / Software info. If you flash a custom ROM the ROM developer can make it say anything they want but if the ROM is LG ROM based, it will usually still keep the proper build #.
The build numbers differ on different LG devices. I did notice that another newer device (G4?) starting on 5.1.1 was build 10B.
Besides the two numbers and letter, there's also numbers after. For example, the TOT method uses 10B_03. We don't have copies of a 10B_03 KDZ but we do have 10B_01. What that means is that using the KDZ method, that we can't take OTAs from 10B_01 to upgrade the phone, because 10B_03 was the actual officially released ROM. Doesn't change anything else, though, in this case.
Other manufacturers use their own coding system.
You're welcome.
Edit: where to find it depends on what you want to do with it. If your phone arrives with an official stock ROM, and if it's not already on 35B, and you use it with a Verizon SIM, then you'll be offered OTAs to eventually reach 35B. If you're looking for the 35B KDZ to make your phone official, unrooted completely stock on the latest release, you'll have to Google for a link to the 35B KDZ. I know there's links in some threads on here. I might have a copy on my Android File Host section too - I forget what I have on there since I mostly use it for my tablet.
If you really need it I can get more specific. You didn't answer whether you want to be rooted and/or have custom recovery. If you do, then you don't need the 35B KDZ. You need the 10B TOT (just a different format official file from LG for their ROM) and I forgot to mention you also need the new 35B DLL to use with the 10B TOT because 35B keeps you from downgrading except using that method. You can find the .DLL in @holiealmunus ' thread about 35B in General.
After rooting and putting TWRP on you can just flash a 35B based ROM if that's what you want to do with it.
Hey thanks man. Appreciate it. I think I'll root it for now , so I can run well root required apps etc

Reasons to downgrade to 10B as opposed to any other build: 10B was the last release that the Stump app works on to root (in brute force mode), and it's easy to put TWRP on (with TWRP Manager).
Good deal I'll report back this weekend
Enjoy your new/used G3. I got mine used a few months ago. If your battery life seems poor then check the date stamped on the battery. If its over a year old replace.
What's a good replacement. I bumped around here and it seems like aftermarket is it
I got a TQTHL battery off eBay. It claims 4500mah but its certainly not. I think its somewhere around 3500-4000 since I get similar battery life to my old Droid Turbo 4-5 hours of screen time with 24-36 hours of uptime. My used stock battery didn't even get 3 hours or last all day. YMMV
Hey guys, the phone is a 35b. Says software vs98535b.
I can root, right? I'm kinda confused...
Thats all Im after. The phone is for my wife, so I just want root so I can use root apps

Question, guys... Should I update to MM?
Is the 5.1.1 buggy or does it present bad battery life? I noticed the screen would get 100% bright by itself, even though I had it at 50%...

The auto brightness issue on 35B is the only issue I've had. Other than that it was a vast improvement over previous official releases. To fix it, it was recommended to me to use Lux Lite in the Play Store. Now I use it on the phone and my tablet, it works very well and is very configurable.
You're talking apples and oranges regarding official LG stock (rooted) ROM versus CyanogenMod, the latter being the only way of putting Marshmallow on this phone since LG hasn't released it yet but since they did for the D855 I think they will for the other G3s.
Try it if you like but I don't bother flashing CM any more. Personally I find that CM builds create more problems than they solve.
Of course, I'm running @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 ROM which spoils me even more on an LG-based ROM.
Thanks once again. I think I'll leave it as is. She doesn't really know much about roms and such, so I'd be flashing or fixing things here and there.
Thanks again
Edit : Deleted due to roirraW "edor" ehT statement (wich is very accurate for what it seems) that the 35B cant work with these methods , guess I just had luck

That hasn't been updated for 35B, it's for 23C only. It worked for you? The Play Store notes even says "Don't flash this if you are on 5.1.1 (vs985 v35a or 35b)" and the author's thread doesn't mention a version for 35B.

Lg g3 vs98547A. Is there a downgrade

I got a friend who has a lg g3 and is on vs98547A. No root. Is it possible to downgrade from 47A to at least 10B or to an os that can be rooted. Thanks
Please don't post the same question in multiple threads. This, however, was the correct place to post it.
If you don't care about having root and custom recovery, then you can downgrade one of three ways, but I'll only discuss the first two ways as the third way is more complicated and more focused on those who need a "last-ditch" effort to downgrade and get TWRP put on.
1. You can downgrade from 46A or 47A to 35B by flashing the 35B KDZ with LG Flash Tool 2014.
2. You can downgrade to any KDZ previous to 35B (10B, 12B, 23C or 24B) by first flashing the 10B TOT using the 35B .DLL, and then you can flash whatever KDZ you like.
If you do want to be rooted and have a custom recovery, then go with option #2 as far as flashing the 10B TOT using the 35B .DLL, root with the Stump app, then use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to flash TWRP, then you can flash whatever ROM you want.

No problem.
No, I meant something different.
From 35B, 46A or 47A, you can only flash KDZs 35B and higher. The only way to downgrade to lower than 35B from 35B, 46A or 47A is to use the 10B TOT with the 35B .DLL.
You don't have to go to 35B first in order to get to 10B. For some reason when I was replying at first I forgot you said about "so you can root".
TOTs are like KDZs but actually they flash more partitions than KDZs do, and they use a different program and instructions to flash. You can find all the KDZs and the only TOT we have, along with the 35B .DLL in my Android File Host section which I link to from @annoyingduck 's stickied return to stock thread in the General section, also the first link in my signature below. The software to flash TOTs you'll have to Google for.
We used to use a different .DLL to flash the 10B TOT, but it didn't work once we got to 35B. A user found that using the .DLL that's extracted from the 35B KDZ enabled us to use the TOT method on 35B and above (so far) again.

There's a link at the top of the second post of that stickied thread I mentioned to some TOT directions, but the OP of that thread doesn't maintain it any more so I don't know if any links to the flashing software, etc, work, but you might at least get an idea of what you're looking for there.

I have no personal experience with that. To my understanding, it's basically a central repository for all things needed for different aspects of doing things with the VS985 - it makes use of the same individual tools that are available outside the toolkit. It may work for what you need.
I've preferred to use the tools necessary to do what needs doing, directly.

You're welcome! Glad things went as planned. No problem really.
My handle is like the second Mad Max movie "The Road Warrior"
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981), but backwards. I have "Road" mispelled "rode" on purpose. Someone called me the road warrior in the Army 30 years ago this year. When I got out of the Army I started using it on computer "bulletin boards" (BBS), but backwards just to be different.

PLZ HELP No network in Resurrection Remix 6.0.1

hello every one ... i just installed RR rom... but i am facing NO SERVICE issue . im coming from FULMICS 5.3 . i also tried flashing 35 bootstack . Asking here because searching the specified thread gives me error.
Any help appreciated.
It's common after flashing international ports of stock ROMs or CyanogenMod/AOSP based ROMs that Mobile Data goes wonky. Flashing the 10B TOT using the .DLL that's extracted from the 35B KDZ to start fresh is what's recommened. Re-root with the Stump app and use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to put TWRP back on.
Rooting gets more complicated after 10B and putting TWRP on gets more complicated after 12B. For what it's worth, I stick to stock but modified/heavily debloated Verizon/LG ROMs.

For KDZ method, @annoyingduck 's stickied return to stock thread in the General section. I recommend the TOT method though. You'd have to Google for:
Code:
XDA TOT method
You can still find the actual TOT and .DLL you need at my Android File Host section which is linked to at the bottom of the first post of @annoyingduck 's thread.
You're welcome!

You're welcome, glad to hear it!

Looking for some Help with rooting, and maybe some General Advice.

Hello all and thank you for stopping by to assist me. I am trying to root my Verizon LG G3. I am not sure what all information you need so I am just going to post as much information as possible about my device below.
Model Number : VS985 4G
Hardware Version : Rev. 1.0
Android Version : 6.0
Kernel Version : 3.4.0-perf-gf128999
Build Number : MRA58K
Software Version : VS98546A
And that is all I can think of. I tried to OneClickRoot or whatever it is but it says my device is not supported. I tried to follow some Youtube Videos, but the all lead to "Do my survey, my links are legit, I promise" stuff so... I got no where.
Can anyone help lead me in the direction to getting my device rooted?
Also I see a lot about TWRP? Anyone willing to elaborate on what that is or if its something I want?
Edit: What I am trying to accomplish is a rooted device that I can (Hide My Root) on, and use an app such as LocationFaker to fake my location and allow me to play a location based game with a friend in another state.
Whenever I try to play the game without root it is unable to detect my location for says GPS Failed or what have you, I just want to trick it to thinking I am near my friend so we can play together.

So the easiest way to root the g3 is to use the tot method that you can find here on xda. And tot back to 10B from there you can use stump root (that is also here on xda) and use brute force mode, it'll work on the g3 I've used it a whole bunch in mine. After that you can download twrp manager from he playstore and get twrp recovery installed. After that you can pretty much do anything you want. Flash a custom rom, flash xposed and I think if I remember right there was a module in there for location as for what you're seeking. Just make sure you read up on what bootstacks you need to flash when flashing different roms. You can soft brick yourself and can be a pain in the ass. So just read read read especially the flashing instructions.

This is good news! I'm in the same boat, wanting to know if I can root a VS985 running marshmallow. I bought a G4 AT&T variant, which is also on marshmallow and after I received it I found out that it cannot be easily rooted. A very risky process if possible at all, and a big disappointment. Up for sale it goes, and I am here scouting information to see about the possibility of rooting a vs985 on marshmallow. Hopefully it's a lot less risky and a lot easier.

Yes it is relatively easy when you tot back to 10B anything after that it starts to get harder to root and also install twrp recovery.

Okay, so I have done some reading based on what you have told me. I have found a small tutorial for TOT'ing (I don't know if I am using that right) back to 10B, because from what I understand I am at 46A.
Now, one of the things is instructing a guy on how to then "flash a bootstack?" back to 35B and then flash again to 47A. Do I need to do all that? Can I stay at 10B and do what I need?
I believe (based on what I gathered from your post) that I just need to see what I want, for instance : flash xposed, and see which bootstack that requires?
Great! I assume then that there is less risk in downgrading on the G3 MM than G4 MM. From what I understand, the locked bootloader on most G4 variants (except some such as t-mo h811 or internt'l H815) complicates the life of anyone who tries to downgrade or flash anything, with significant risk of bricking or bootlooping.

Yes from 35B and up you have to use the tot method to get to 10B. And no from a rooted 10B with twrp flashed you can flash any rom like xdabbebs 47A marshmallow rom which uses the 35B bootstack, but on sky dragon and Jasmine roms for marshmallow you will flash the 35B bootstack after you flash the rom, other wise you'll soft brick your phone. But its recoverable with doing the tot method again, you just won't see anything on your screen but it will work.
And for xposed there are certain versions for different foresees like kitkat, lollipop and marshmallow. And the vs985 uses the arm NOT arm64. I hope this makes some more sense to you, and there's some awesome people here with the g3's that are also willing to help. So don't hesitate to ask, it's how I've learned a lot of stuff.

Hi @TNRakkGamer! Welcome! In the future, please post new question threads in the Q&A section. I'll ask a moderator to move this thread.

VS985 6.0 root

Forgive me if I'm in the wrong forum or thread for this.
I had my VS985 G3 rooted with Lollipop but I unrooted to upgrade to Marshmallow a while back. Interested in rooting again but I'm having trouble finding a method for my build number, which is MRA58K. Android version is 6.0. I searched around and found methods for the 47A build but nothing for 58K. Does anyone know if there is a root method for the G3 with 6.0 and the MRA58K build?
Unfortunately not, 47A is the latest VS985 build number which has a root method available.
@jmillgrip questions go in the Q&A section. Report your own post to a moderator and ask them to move it there by clicking the /!\ icon on the lower left corner of your post.
If you do not have a "K" after the VS985 under the battery such as VS985WK, then you can downgrade via the VS985 10B TOT and root etc from there. They are literally dozens of threads that mention how to do this in the General and Q&A sections.
If your model does have a K somewhere after the VS985 (it won't show in Android's About menu, only under the battery), then you absolutely cannot downgrade or root once you're on Marshmallow.
Ok thanks. I reported the post to have it moved. Can I ask, if the 47A build is the latest one that has a root method then why wouldn't I downgrade to that instead of 10B?
I checked under the battery and there's is no K.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for having it moved, and you're welcome! You're in the minority of people who actually have their posts moved even after I tell them how to do it.
I saw your other post about it being a build higher than 47A, but 1) I don't even remember being able to root 47A directly, 2) I moved on from this phone five months ago and no longer have it, 3) If 47A is able to be rooted, it was either through a workaround and was actually just an alternate method of downgrading so that you can root that I tested and posted about that was clunky at best but bricked a very few people, and permanently bricked maybe 2-3 people (but that was also before we knew about the "K" variant so that could've been a factor) AND/OR it involved KingRoot, which I recommend avoiding at all costs when possible, and 4) long story short - too late, it is just plain easiest to root and install TWRP from 10B. I apologize for over-explaining, it's just what I do.
Ok I see. I definitely don't want to do anything shifty. My phone is super stable and I like it that way. I just want root to get rid of bloatware mainly. 10b will take me back to Lollipop though correct? I really want to stay with Marshmallow.
Ok I think I understand. I downgrade to install TWRP and get root access. Then I can upgrade back to Marshmallow if I want?

that's correct. you'll need to flash a rom that's already rooted. XDABBEB's VS985 3.1.1 is a good one. you'll also need to flash the correct bootstack that goes with the rom. follow the instructions in the post and you should be good.
Thanks. The ROM seems cool. I'm just not totally understanding which bootstack is the correct one.

if you're going to flash that rom, you'll need the 35b bootstack. follow the instructions in the first post of that thread.
