Bricked device earlier, couldn't flash, was close to crying and resorted to - Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

I've resorted to exploring options in Odin3.
All options I've tried didn't work:
1. Flash 1 tar file at a time
2. Re-flash the incompatible TWRP and kernel
3. Boot into recovery
4. Flash PIT
5. Tried different ODIN versions
6. Tried 6 USB cables
7. Tried 2 other computers
Nothing was working, until I saw a Family Guy episode where Peter said "Life is like a Sunday night with your girlfriend, you want to bang her to get to sleep and wake up to a good Monday morning".
That's when I got the idea - I ticked Phone EFS Update (try it first without checking this option) and Phone Bootloader Update and by good heavens, it worked! (had to do 6 or 7 retries as I was getting FAIL! (DeviceInfo)).
So anyone out there with a bricked N930FD, there might be light at the end of the tunnel.

Lol. You're quite a daredevil to try something like that on a new phone that doesn't have much support options yet.
But I'm glad you got your phone back to normal.:victory:

Maybe lost IMEI if ticked "Phone EFS Update" or "Phone EFS Clear" !!!

Didn't lose IMEI, baseband/radio works like first time I turned on the phone
I didn't lose IMEI, and I haven't encountered any issue.
I tried setting it to GSM only, 3G only, and LTE only, and everything works like as it should.
For LTE, I still get the 4G+ signal which I think is a lot faster than the older 4G.
Both SIM's IMEI are also recognizable.
I thought you only lose the IMEI if you flash the wrong bootloader and/or baseband?

Why, just whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy??

Bricking as a result of customizing
because I wanted to customize parts of my phone. Dont get me wrong, I think Samsung did a great job allowing us to change a plethora parts of the phone but there are still unreachable parts I wish to change with root hence bricking my phone in the process. Kudos to Samsung still for making it easy to recover the phone.
As Peter would have said, I'm a free-thinking-hypnotized-by-by-the-media member of the society.

.
I admire your enthusiasm and yes it's what being on XDA is all about I guess. But I agree with others that it's way too early to be tinkering about with flashing or modding the Note 7. It's such an expensive phone and (as you learned) so much can go horribly wrong.

[Q] Flashing custom FW, returns to stock.

Hey all, before I say my problem, firstly I have no idea if this is the right section in the forums so apologies in advance, secondly, I have held out for 3 days trying to work out various issues before I posted. I probably did just miss one thing or misread another but no matter how much I look, no idea what as new to this. Thanks in advance for your help.
Basically, wanted to flash some custom firmware to my phone, I have been having many issues with backing up on Kies, seems to be something related to my USB's and my computer, it keeps failing during the backing up of programs. I ended up giving up on this, made a titanium pro back up of System files and of programs, also made a Nandroid backup, both on my internal phone memory I believe. Have root access, installed busy box and such, backed up some other stuff using EFS Pro, now I am completely confused, I have followed a few guides dotted around the internet, tried to install some custom firmware, it was Carbon Rom 4.2 I believe. I went into the CMW menu, wiped data/factory reset, wiped partition cache, and wiped dalvik cache, installed the rom from my internal phone memory, as it would not find it on the memory card when I tried, and now after two attempts of it seemingly doing it, on rebooting the phone, I go back to the Samsung firmware.
I have tried to read up as much as I can but obviously I am missing something here and no amount of guides or google searches have hinted at my problem, could anyone help? I know people asking constantly for information on how to put on custom firmware will be irritating, but I have genuinely taken this as far as I can alone Cheers
Now after formating something under mount/system, my phone is stuck on the logo screen, reinstalling the ROM does not work either, no idea what to do now
reflash rom, wipe data and voila.
Hey, thanks for the reply. By reflash rom, which way do you mean, am pretty confused still. The rom I download basically bricked my phone, I don't know why, I think to recover it I use ODIN and get my stock software, so is that what you mean? Or can I somehow use my Nandroid back up..?

If you have a Nandroid restore that or flash your original firmware via Odin .
Never restore system files after a firmware change with TB .

Ok here is the situation now, I have made things 100 times worse, I possibly should not of been doing it this late... I followed guides exactly though and there is definitely something not working right with this phone, I just don't know what, all I know is its very temperamental with connecting to computers and will fail doing the custom firmware flashes half the time, no matter what I use, even using the stock ROM i got from samimobile has caused many problems. It might be me, I don't know, but in my frustration followed some advice on a forum and I think I formatted the mount/system. SO obviously I lost both my back up's. My fault and can live with that, phone was bricked and had to do that to get past it I think..
But now no matter what kernel I use and have tried quite a few including my original one, I am unable to connect to my home wifi. It definitely is not the wifi, it worked just fine before I flashed the phone and has been working with it for 4 months, now whenever I set up the phone its constantly stuck in this obtaining network ip infinite loop. No fixes I have used have helped at all so far Sorry to keep asking stuff, I am just literally at the end of my tether, was up until 7am messing with it to no avail.
Just to reiterate a point, the reason I wanted custom firmware was because the phone was crashing randomly and just dying on me and also the speaker had lost like 90% of the volume when I wanted to play music, also it would not connect to my computer with ease, now obviously before I did anything it had issues. So that is why I feel something might be wrong, not saying I did not break anything myself, just the process of flashing the firmware has been pretty straight forward once I did it a couple of times, it has just been failing and bricking every other time, so I am not sure what the problem actually is, did I miss a step, did I mess it up? If not what has. Please helps guys. Regards.

Usual reply if you did not know what and why and had never bothered to read the faqs and guides before flashing .Then its nearly always user error .
Best take it to a service centre and pay for a repair .

Found out something really handy
Hi guys,
TheGS3 has 1 huge trick when u got stuck in firmware, CSC, etc.
Especially when u used some super usefull toolkit (like me)
I used the Galaxy S3 Toolkit, option4 (ALL in ONE) just push enter 2 times
1 to start and the last one to exit...
Got all the issues i read on hundreds of pages searching for the solution.
Accidentialy i found this morning (its 4:45am right now and busy with it since 15:00)
Start Kies, connect GS3 with USB kabel and when it says not connected take out USB
Dont plug in USB for a while...
In KIES go to Tools and irmware upgrade.. Remember, DONT plug in USB
It will ask u for your model nr which is printed on sticker in baterycover
Confirm and it will ask u S / N' which is printed on same sticker
It will start downloading firmware and u will be guided through update progress
Good Luck to y'all.. Time to go to bed.......

(Q) STUMPED: No Radio Signal or Mobile Network after Unbricking

First, let me say, I appreciate the vast information available on this site. I have found many answers to various problems I have encountered with my GN2 on this site, but I am totally stumped right now. I purchased another VZW GN2 last night and I admit to forgetting that you had tounlock the bootloader prior to flashing a newer firmware via odin. Basically, I ended up bricking the phone and getting the yellow triangle saying there was software not authorized by verizon. I searched and unbricked the phone but now I have a circle with a line through it and I have no mobile connection. I went back to stock firmware vramc3 via odin. I used casual to unlock and root still no signal, ive checked my efs and they are not lost my imei number is still intact. they arent corrupt.(backed them up). I know it was something I did because there wasnt a circle with a line where the bars are supposed to be before i touched the phone.

it also says my ERI version is not available.....idk if that has anything to do with it....ive tried vraljb,vramc3, and mj9.....still have the circle......im starting to think its a corrupt imei.....i mean i still have it but when i accessed the hidden menu and looked at the imei number it only had the hex and not the dec.....i also see that im getting good signal strength.....im stuck trying to figure this out....im moving on to the imei restore now just to make sure.....
UPDATE: i'VE BEEN PLAYING AROUND IN THE HIDDEN MENU AND I GOT THE PHONE TO GET ON ROAMING AND THE ERI CAME BACK TO 5. NOW I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW I WILL TAKE IT OUT OF ROAMING BUT STILL KEEP THE ERI IN PLACE. I GET BARS NOW AT LEAST. I THINK I MIGHT JUST DO A FACTORY RESET NOW...JUST FOR KICKS ( YOU NEVER KNOW).....I THINK IT IS POSSIBLE TO ALTER THE ERI AND IMEI STUFF THRU THE HIDDEN MENU WITHOUT USING THE COMPUTER. I WILL KEEP UPDATING AS I GO ALONG TODAY. THIS HAS ME GOING THRU IT WITH MY WIFE LOL SHE JUST DOESNT UNDERSTAND....
P.S THE IMEI NUMBER AND OTHER NUMBERS ARE THERE JUST BLACKED OUT FOR SECURITY PURPOSES
@ FarRockAmerika,
This may or may not be the same issue ... but I read in other threads that your idea of doing a factory reset could fix the "stuck in roaming" issue. It looks like you should do the factory reset from within the ROM though.... not in recovery. This thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2748242 ) has some links that might be relevant with the roaming issue. Good luck.

lol i found this out the hard way.....it went back to a circle with the line.....i got my dec part of my imei back and my eri without the computer....ill just do some more testing......it wasnt stuck in roaming i put it in roaming in the hidden menu just to see if i get some type of mobile network connection......i will take some more screenshots of the hidden menu and where i went a little later....i just have to make sure...before i post it
Same problem
I too am having the same problem with my SCH-1605. The difference is that my network connection was screwing up BEFORE I soft bricked the phone and got the triangle (not a tech expert here so please bear with me if my terminology is incorrect). Phone was working great rooted for 6mos and must have updated itself or I just dumbly installed one that screwed the phone up. I tried new sim from verizon (did not work), un-rooting, re-flashing with ODIN with pit and fw as suggested on other posts (for other problems) and did something wrong I forget what , got the triangle thing and then recovered with Kies and every thing supposedly was back to stock. Called Sansung, went to BB service center and they reflashed firmware (same thing I did I am guessing LOL, but I humured the tech line by letting them do it again). They then told me to ship it to them and although it was not under warranty (2nd owner) they would do the full software re flash(??) and check the hardware (I would be responsible for repair and I agreed as long as they contacted me if over 125$). Well I just got the phone shipped back today with a refusal (void in warranty) to repair for rooted device!! I am pissed at this because it was ALREADY a voided warranty repair ticket. ..No contacting me, just ran it through tagged it unrepairable and shipped it back aaaargh!
Anyway, I am hoping the bright minds and technical expertise of the xda members can help us out with this problem.
I was looking at the safestrap and am leery because I have the VRUEAJ9 build and do not see instructions/files for it. (I am newber, but can follow instructions, have been researching for weeks and finally asking for HELP because I am stumped, confused, with little $$ to buy a new phone right now (full-time got cut to part-time thanks to HC issue but thats for another forum!)
Thank you in advance for any help on this issue!!

Bricked or Boot loader problem. Help

Is my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Bricked ?
I got the phone from Ebay on July 6,2015 everything was great
But on the morning of Sep 21st looking at my gallery pictures, I found they deleted themselves?
not knowing what that meant I went looking for recovery software "Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android"
it was not working so I had to root(?) my phone, so I went to the google play store and found a root app that seem
to have high reviews, tried it and did not work out right the phone restated saying "Samsung's firmware upgrade encountered an issue" so the next day did some research first before trying anything. I downloaded Odin3 and entered download mode & flashed the Samsung it restarted had it on for 3-4 hours
then turned it off & turned it on later to find it would not go pass the Samsung logo so I went to hold the off button shutting the phone off that happen 2 times and on the 3rd try turning it on It did not come on at all. Went to see if google had anything on this some say it is bricked and need to use a jig so I got one from a USA seller on ebay and returned it because it did not work at all. Not the phone still won't come on & I can't enter download mode, how do I fix this, is it a boot loader problem? is it hard bricked? do I need to take it to someone if so who & how much would that cost? you think.
Other Info of the phone

Should I post this in the Troubleshooting Forum?
The pictures I took on the phone disappeared all 300+ pictures disappeared .I am the only one using the Samsung
and it was on my table all that day. So I went to google to find a photo recovery software & found a software called
Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android (you can find videos on youtube) & using the software it can do 2 things, auto root the phone to find the photos and bring it back to normal or you Have to have your phone rooted. The auto root setting was not working on the Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android software so I went to the google play store on my Samsung and found a root app that a lot seem to like as it was 4.4 stars, went to install that the app stated I should have "Kingo SuperUser" on my computer so had that put on the went to root the phone & it did not work.
I got a screen on the Samsung saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." Youtube had a video on this same problem so I went to Sammobile's site and download the firmware what was
"2014-06-11 USA(Verizon) Version 4.4.2 PDA (I605VRUFND7) Kies. After I downloaded that I downloaded Odin3_v3.10.6 opened it had auto "Reboot & F.Reset Time" selected and added the firmware MD5 file add in the "AP" secion then Entered Download mode on the Samsung & hooked it up to my computer
then I hit start about 30min later it Passed with a green light and everything seem back to normal 3 hours later I went to turn the Samsung off and latter that night when I went to turn it on it got stuck at the Samsung logo that happen 2 times and on the third time it did not come on & so can't "enter download mode" and the "usb Jig" did not
work. What happen & what do I need to next. Do I take the phone to someone to fix this.
Short version of the story
.Pictures I took 300+ disappeared so when looking for recovery software
.Found a software called "Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android" (the software had "2" Options for recovering. 1 the software would
Auto Root and bring the Samsung back to normal after recovering the pictures or I would have to had the phone already rooted.
. When to the google play store with the Samsung, found a root app download that & "It stated I should download "Kingo SuperUser" to my computer so I did that.
.It failed & got a screen on the Samsung Saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
.Went to Sammobile's site and download Firmware 2014-06-11 USA(Verizon) Version 4.4.2 PDA (I605VRUFND7) Kies
.Download Odin3_v3.10.6 had auto "Reboot & F.Reset Time" selected and added the firmware MD5 file add in the "AP" secion
Entered download mode & the Samsung passed
.Everything was back I had it on for 3-4 hours then shutdown the phone later that night went to turn on and it got stuck
at the Samsung logo 2 times and on the 3rd time it would not turn on nor enter "Download Mode"
.Got a "usb Jig" & that did not work and now I am here wondering what do next & what happen to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 do I need to take to someone to fix it ?

Bricked i545 - "Device memory damaged"

This is my first post to a forum, so please bear with me...
So a few days ago, a friend of mine got a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 from someone, for free. He got it for free because the screen's glass is cracked a bit, and the phone is bricked; the previous owner didn't know what to do with it. I decided I would try to fix it, because if I do, I might be able to buy it off him and give it to my little sister, who currently has a dying iPhone 5C.
When I turn on the phone, it boots, showing the samsung logo, showing the red Verizon screen, and playing the boot tune. Then, just when you'd expect it to go to the OS, it shows a screen which at the top reads "Device memory damaged". Below that, it says "The data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your phone to factory defaults. This will erase all your data." And below that is a button, which says "RESET PHONE". Tapping on it does nothing.
I have worked with android phones before (rooting, ROMs, locked bootloaders, bricked phones; even all these things on a Galaxy Gear smartwatch), and I know what the data partition is. I remembered that the recovery on samsung phones have an option to wipe the data partition. So I tried to access the recovery menu by holding Power, Home, and Vol+ when the phone is off. It doesn't work either . It shows the Andy robot laying on its back with a door open on its belly, with a warning icon popping out. So the recovery is dead...
I thought I could try to fix the recovery by flashing it with Odin :fingers-crossed:; Didn't work. It is blocked because the phone can't verify version . Then, after a little more research, I realized I might be able to fix the recovery by flashing a whole stock ROM. I don't know what firmware the phone is running, because I can't ask the previous owner. So I tried a few KitKat ones, and they were all rejected by the phone. Then I booted the phone back up, and I realized the RESET PHONE button acted like it was part of a Lollipop UI (There is a darker circle that extends from the part of the button where you tap). So I went back into download mode and tried to flash the 2 OTA versions of Lollipop (OC1 and OF1). The error this time was "SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 8 , Binary : 6". This may or may not be the error I got before with the KitKat ROMs. I don't remember, and I'm not at my desktop to try the old ROMs.
After looking up this error, I found no exact results, but there were ones with a similar error. People said that it means a ROM is being flashed that is too old to pass the downgrade prevention system. I've been trying to flash what seems to be the latest firmware revision for this phone (OF1). Any ideas? Are the OSs I'm trying to flash somehow too new for the phone (even though I've tried all of the stock Lollipop ROMs. Should I give the phone back to my friend and tell him it's dead?
Thanks in advance!
I can't post images because I haven't posted here (or on any forum, for that matter) before.
Well, it seems really bad but you can try Samsung Smart Switch or Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant to repair the phone, else way JTag it's another option

Thanks for the info. I tried flashing that version. Didn't work. I ended up taking my own broken S4 I had laying around, which had a smashed screen but a supposedly good Mainboard, and transferred the mainboard to my friend's bricked S4. Now it boots fully, and I made use of my old phone that was laying around.
BTW, do you know where or how you found out which version Fuse 8 represented? I'd like to learn more about this kind of stuff.
you probably needed to flash a lowship odin tar and repartition

Sorry, what do you mean by "lowship"? I did use a PIT file to repartition, which didn't work, possibly because the OS being flashed with it wasn't being accepted...

a normal odin tar will not fix a bad partition regardless of the .pit you need a tar that s a _user_Low_ship todo a full format odin was failing because the partitions where screwed and you weren't using the correct image
go to sammobile.com they have all the s4 all variants roms.

I am not aware of a definitive guide on the fuses. I found it by trial and error

Haaaalp! Another victim of the OTA update screwing my phone after debloat...possible to recover some files via recovery or download mode?

Hello all...hoping to get some assistance with this thing. Long story short, debloated it due to horrid battery life and high heat. Everything was great until about a week ago when my settings app go renamed somehow. Tried fixing it but couldn't find the com.android.settings file with the correct signature for my phone (AT&T, US Model, unlocked, not rooted).
It's been working fine except no settings...so I backed up the usual stuff and had plans to do a factory reset this weekend. A few hours ago I picked it up and it went all wonky on me. Upon boot, it comes up to the lock screen and then the screen just starts turning on/off. I'm unable to bring up the passcode screen...but, am able to bring up the power menu by holding the power button. But, can't power down or get into safe mode that way. After about 5 seconds of doing this, it reboots. Rinse and repeat. Safe mode via buttons starts, but, does the same thing.
I am able to get into both recovery mode and download mode though. I can view logs/etc.
Normally, I'd just ***** and moan, then do the factory reset, However, I made one huge oversight when I backed up my data earlier this week and forgot to backup my notes. There's about a dozen of them, pages and pages long with all the medical details regarding my sons illness that I've been tracking for years. It's a nightmare dealing with different Dr's all the time so I've logged it all on the phone. Unfortunately, the best app I've found for it doesn't do cloud storage and keeps them saved as local txt files on the device.
Is there any hope I can somehow pull the files using recovery/download mode or utilize the logs to determine the errors and fix it enough to be able to get them? I'm fairly tech savvy and have ADB installed. I'm super ADD though and my head is just spinning trying to sort through all the possible posts regarding trying to do this...many being for older phones.
Absolute worst case, is there a legitimate service that would be able to do it?
Any help recovering my son's medical notes would be really really appreciated.

Man, i'm so sorry to hear that :/
Sience you have access to recovery, did you try to wipe only cache partition and hit repair apps(also in recovery)?
I'm also using debloated device and i dont have any problems with it

Yeah...that's the first thing I tried after safe mode failed. :\
There's quite a few folks reporting similar issues since the last OTA update a couple weeks ago.
Usually I delay until I get a chance to restore then allow it...this one didn't even give me a chance. I was using my phone when it popped up. No option to remind me later. When I tried to exit it counted down from 10, rebooted and installed.

Thanks for the idea. But, yeah, tried that to already...cleared cache and repaired apps afterwards too. Tried it with cable, tried a 2.0 cable too.
No dice.
The app repair works just fine and then it does the same thing when lock screen tries to appear.

Yeah, I figured that'd be my last shot at it... I've read the horror stories of tripping Knox even with factory firmware.
Was just really hoping there was some way to yank the stuff using recovery or download modes.

I think that you can't trip Knox only when you flash official firmware over unlocked bootloader and custom ROM, but I'm not so sure.
Last time I did that is when I had Samsung Galaxy S2 and flashing official firmware over official firmware and that didn't trip the Knox counter
Does flashing genuine firmware trip knox?
Hi It's been a while since I bothered flashing firmware so I am not upto date with how things work now. My questions are I am currently on 02s version of firmware and would like to go samsungs version so I can take part in things like the one...

Here you can see that flashing official firmware over official firmware(i'm guessing that you are not rooted) won't trip knox counter
