UPDATE 25/08/16
ok folks nice new update for you all here.
changelog below
Code:
Experimental 1.97Ghz and 2.07Ghz cpu overclocks
KCAL Display color options added
few other minor tweaks
keep an eye on cpu temps if your running device hard at high clock speeds as these two high end clock speeds are highly experimental, they seem to be stable for me but your mileage may vary.
new download links are below

6.0.1 Version : Mod Edit : Links Removed
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afternoon all,
recently got myself a older model J5 as my daily use phone, (got rid of my previous S5Mini for various reasons, one being samsungs insistance on badly designed code in the kernel and general instability) and have started playing around with kernel changes already and unlike on the s5mini the changes appear to be incredibly stable and make a very noticable difference to the device performance.
please make sure you pick the correct download for your android version as the 5.1.1 kernel WILL NOT WORK ON 6.0.1 AND VICE VERSA
first up a basic changelog of what i have changed or added to the stock j5 kernel
Code:
build with linaro 4.8 toolchain with tweaks for the cortex-A53
1.88Ghz CPU Overclock as standard
720mhz GPU Overclock
multiple cpu governors included (alucard, intel, yankactive, hyper, electrodemand, intelliactive, bluactive, zzmoove, smartmax, interactive, userspace, powersave, bioshock and performance)
Adreno Ideler support
MSM_Hotplug, mpdecision, alucard_hotplug, MSM_Sleeper
adjustable cpu thermal throttle
GPU Minimum clock now 100mhz
Forced USB Fast Charge (untested)
few new i/o schedulers added( zen and sio)
adaptive LMK enabled for hopefully better memory management performance
user-selectable option to enable/disable mmc crc support (upto 30% i/o performance boost by disabling this )
user-selectable disable/enable fsync
user-selectable ARCH_POWER on/off
power suspend added
lots of new tcp congestion algos added,
other various tweaks for A53 and general performance
this seems to be perfectly stable for me ive had no lockups or crashes on my device but your mileage may vary.
using the kernel adiutor from play store should allow most of the tweaks to be controlled.
zip for flashing in twrp is in the downloads section of this post,
let me know how you get on folks and any suggestions will be considered

6.0.1 USERS WILL NEED TO REFLASH SUPERSU AFTER FLASHING THE ZIP ABOVE AS IT REPLACES THE BOOT IMAGE - 5.1.1 USERS SHOULD KEEP ANY CUSTOM CHANGES TO RAMDISK AS FLASH WORKS DIFFERENTLY ON 5.1.1 BUILDS - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Big thanks to MaDaLiNoSt , Mohamed_Karim and vaserbanix for helping with the 6.0.1 issues be it in testing builds or giving info
Please if you are able consider a small donation to help cover my costs as anything is greatly appreciated.

ok overclock i expected some issues on, im going to flash back to stock later and look at it as i think its the zip causing the problem - and lack of mtp will likely be down to using cm rather than stock

that will be why then, as you need to replace dtb and zimage (hence the zip to do it) dtb is where most of the controls for overclock are

Q 01: Are there any informative and usefull post I should also read?
A: Yes there are a few:
[REF][GUIDE]Most up to date guide on CPU governors and I/O schedulers by @gsstudios
[XDA-TV] XDA Myth Busters: Linaro 4.7.4 vs. GCC 4.7
[TOOL][WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.3 by @Snoop05

[BETA][2016.02.28] SuperSU by @Chainfire
Q 02: Which governors are used by @thehacker911 in his kernel?
A: This lis of governors used is as follows:
Interextrem: A tweaked interactive governor by thehacker911. It is found in hacker kernel s6, where it has been tuned for better performance while still maintaining good battery life.
[*]Interactive
[*]Hyper
[*]Preservative governor
[*]ConservativeX
[*]Alucard
[*]Darkness
[*]Nightmare
[*]Wheatley
[*]SmartassV2
[*]OnDemand
[*]OnDemandPlus
[*]Dance Dance
[*]Conservative
[*]Userspace
[*]Bioshock
[*]Lionheart
For further information on those governors see thread of @gsstudios linked in first question (special thanks to him and @Aria.A97 for mentioning it in his Post, here) or the port by @thommy200 found here in our thread.
Q 03: How to apply profiles in Synapse as linked in the question above?
A: Thanks to our @Nimroth I'm able to share his step by step explanation of hoe to apply a profile using Synapse:
move the downloaded .tar file to Synapse/saved_profiles
start Synapse
restart it via the "Restart Synapse" button at the profiles tab (or restart you phone) to show your profile
at the top of the profiles tab select your profile and click on the check mark above
select "Restore Selected Profile"
Synapse force closes!
after the force close open up Synapse, click on the X at the top of the screen
Q 04: (ANDROID 5.1.1 ONLY!) Coming from another kernel, after flashing Hacker Kernel S6 Universal I got bootloop. What to do?
Maybe you've been on a kernel that changes the default GPU drivers/lib (as e.g. arter97). You got to revert those libs and drivers back to stock to be abled to use Hacker Kernel S6 Universal. Thank you @H3llSp4wN who has given the helpful answer in his Post on page 3 of this thread. You got to performe libs restore by BluMaK Team, as can be downloaded here.
Q 05: On my device the lower cores are on 800MHz instead of 400MHz. What can I do?
A: Download BusyBox as well as Synapse in Google PlayStore. Install BusyBox and reboot the device. Afterwards you'll be abled to adjust these settings in Synapse.
Q 06: What are the best settings for heavy gamers?
A: In response I want to thank @vnvman for his findings and for sharing them with us. You will find his post here.
Q 07: Are there any settings I could use to conserve battery on v11 of this kernel?
A: Thanks to our user @Indranuj Kar we are abled to share some settings. He uses undervolted a53, a57 with darkness and interactive governors as he wishs using 6 cores most of the time. His settings can be found here as well as screenshots here. In addition @NZnewbie share his battera conserving settings here. ATTENTION: these settings might not be well treeting for your device! Thanks for sharing with us you two!
Q 08: In some cases since V12 I got the issue that during a call, the microphone doesn't work. Is there any solution?
A: Try the WSM version of the kernel, or flash sound fix for your model after flashing the kernel. Thanks to @Medel-Silver for this useful tip in his post, found here
Q 09: Are there any settings I could use to conserve battery on v12 of this kernel?
A: Thanks to our user @NZnewbie we are abled to share some settings. His settings can be found here. If you'd ike to have a well balanced profile for performance as well als battery conservation you might like @Aria.A97's Awesome Balanced Profile, which is to be found here. ATTENTION: these settings might not be well treeting for your device! Thanks for sharing with us!
Q 10: Screenmirroring isn't working on V11 as well as V12. Is there anysolution to this problem?
A: To fix screenmirroring add "wlan.wfd.hdcp = disable" to your system/build.prop and reboot. Thanks to @Pulsarz for mentioning this solution in hier post, that is to be found here.

Help the developer team to collect enough money to buy one or two devices (for the developer, as well as his tester). You'll surely understand that otherwise we won't be able to buy the new device and bring the kernel to it.

NEWS 2016/01/15: German Blog post
As is also to be found in this Post, I'm gonna share it here as well:
Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge: Hacker Kernel S6 Universal
You are looking for a kernel, that is performant, gentle in consumption and at the same time is highly customizable, or just greatly appreciate kernel modding at your S6 / S6 Edge? Then at SmartLounge we got the right one for you.
We want to utilize the harbingers of the forthcoming version 11 to give you a first taste of the kernel. But we also want to introduce it to those of you who do not know the kernel yet. The kernel is a development of our member thehacker911 whom many of you, dealing with modding in Samsung, certainly came to know since a long time.
In his role as a member of SmartLounge thehacker911 offers us something unique: in the Forum of SmartLounge he offers the only German-language support by the developer himself and an exclusive e-mail support for everything related to the Hacker Kernel S6 Universal. The address can be found in our forum in the Developer Lounge, the support thread from thehacker911 in our Samsung Galaxy S6 Lounge. That alone would already justify this article, but here I do not want to leave it.
The functions the kernel are plentiful, so at this point I'll just give a brief excerpt:
Build mit GCC Sabermod 5.3.x Toolchain
drivers/staging/android/binder.c Updated auf Note 5 Sources
Full SELinux permissive
O3 optimiert
init.d Support
CPU underclock bis zu 200 MHz
CPU overclock bis zu 1600 MHz (A53 Cluster) und 2304 MHz (A57 Cluster)
GPU underclock bis zu 100 MHz
GPU overclock bis zu 852 MHz
Volle CPU Kontrolle in Synapse
Volle GPU Kontrolle in Synapse
CPU & GPU Thermal Control (credits to @UpInTheAir and @halaszk)
Voltage control for Memory Bus
Enable CLEAN CACHE, ISO, KSM, NTFS r/w support, UDF CDROM support, USB OTG support, Xbox game controller support (no Module)
GCC 6.0 support
CIFS support
Frandom support
and many more …
Special attention I want to put on the Synapse comprehensive support, which allows to customize the Hacker Kernel S6 Universal to an extent by use of profiles, which are seconed to none. Using the Synapse App available on PlayStore, you are able to freely adapt almost every detail to your user profiles and to make the kernel to something unique on your Samsung device. Control the two CPU clusters independently or change a single CPU completely, in case you don't not need them and by this operate the S6/S6 Edge even more efficiently.
You got fancy on this outstanding kernel, then we invirte you to visit us at our forum to download this kernel and to ask your questions! And all this in German.
The Developer thread can be found here, and support thread here with us in the Forum!

I am running XtreStoLite, too and i am fine with the latest hacker kernel.
I first flashed the ROM as normal with unikernel. Than i booted into system first. After that i did a reboot into recovery and than flashed the hacker kernel.
I had Problems when i flashed the rom and directly flashed hacker kernel without booting into system. On this way i got a bootloop too. So boot in system first with the standard kernel of the rom, than reboot in recovery and flash hacker kernel. Should work, it worked for me
I resolved with flash with TWRP

This kernel exists because of the great kernel developers that we've been blesses with here in the Note 4 forums. Since they have moved on for the most part and their kernels are no longer being updated I'm going to try my best to fill that void. Along with being completely upstreamed to the latest Linux version it includes, what I think, is the best parts of all the kernels that we've enjoyed from the last several years.
As with anything on XDA, FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK. While I do my best to test everything there just no way of knowing how a kernel might respond to your current setup. With that being said, PLEASE HAVE A BACKUP just in case

Wake Controls
To get the wake controls working: Turn on the control you want to use in Kernel Adiutor and then, using a root file explorer, go to /sys/android_touch2/ then find the corresponding file ie doubletap2wake and open the file with a text editor. If the file says 0 change it to 1, if it's already one just save and exit. After that it should work every time until you turn it back off in KA. If you want to turn it back on just repeat the above process.
I consider this to be as good as the wake controls are going to get. They've never really worked reliably but at least with this way it does and to be honest I probably won't put too much more work into getting it any better. Sorry.

Many Thanks!! Great work!! Success on the N910T with ApocalypseX_M rom.
One thing though I'm using the extended battery since I have a Kranich 9600mAH battery, in kernel Auditor it registers as 3200mAH. Not a huge deal to me, I'm fairly confident the kernel will eventually learn.

I've read that about the extended batteries in regards to kernel adiutor showing 3200 still. I think the app is reading something from the rom instead of the kernel. Race rom shows 3600 even with a stock kernel.
Like you said, it should even itself out after a bit. I think I read that it might take two battery cycles. Is that right?

When I was using RamKernel, it took about a week to adjust 100%. At first I'd run out and reboot & have 65%. Then 30, then 20, 10, 5 etc. So I think it's more than 2 battery cycles, but nevertheless it does eventually adjust.
Gonna go ahead and charge it overnight. I'll update with anything else. Other than that, great work my friend!

FAQs
1.1 Q Can you help me I have this problem?
1.1 A I will surely try to help if proper bug reporting is done as per the fashion described above.
1.2 Q: Can you add xyz feature?
1.2 A: If you link me the commits or tell me what kernel you had the feature in, I can take a look at them. I will not add any useless governors or features that I don't find practical.
1.3 Q: How do I control the kernel?
1.3 A: I recommend using EX Kernel Manager or Kernel Auditor (Both need root)
1.4 Q: OMFG MY BATTERY SUXXXX PLS FIX!!!
1.4 A: The kernel doesn't drain any battery unless you have overclocked it, I have kept it at stock frequencies and voltages. Use an app like BetterBatteryStats to figure out what app is screwing with your phone.

great job
Kernel installed this morning and no problem, I'll be back in a few days
@rajatgupta1998 do you think it'd be possible to make Oreo kernel support the same aftermarket panels as Nougat kernel did? It's only touchscreen that is not working. What kind of info could we provide to help to debug this? It would be insanely helpful for all of us with bricked phones
My unit has display burn in issues .. the only fix is to turn down the rgb values with manual display calibration options available on Los based roms. Can i use use the stock oreo rom on top of your kernel and achieve the same ?
Thanks! Does it have an TTL editing function? (line TTL in /proc/net/ip_tables_targets)

I need testers for the kernel since I personally don't own the device. All those who are interested, kindly join my testers group on Telegram. https://t.me/montana_reviver . Also I am willing to continue LineageOS and atleast attempt at Oreo bringup for the device, so I will need testers. Thanks :fingers-crossed:

Nice
New build is up!
File: reviver_kernel_montana_stock_oreo-2.0.zip
Build Date: 13 January 2019
Changelog:
Update kernel source, f2fs and wifi driver from Motorola's OPPS28.65-37-2 Release
Start merging CAF Tags from where Moto dropped: May 2018 (Completed till June '18 right now, more to come) so that we stay up to date with Qualcomm's release for MSM8953 (Snapdragon 625) chipset. Our CPU MSM8937 can be thought of a low powered version of the 625 so they share a lot of code.
Show correct GPU Frequency in sysfs
Silence WLAN, PCIe, and CPU suspend state kernel messages. These are pretty useless.
Add support for Himax Touchscreen Panel
Remove CPU Boost functionality from Interactive CPU Frequency Governor
Minor changes to MDSS (Display) and Camera drivers.
Downloads:
Latest Build: reviver_kernel_montana_stock_oreo-2.0.zip

SHA1: 965cfffd0b0909ee3d41e841519ef90e30c8ae0f
Proposed upcoming features in future releases (No promises)
1. A custom wakelock blocking driver by @ Lord Boeffla
2. KCAL Display Colour Control driver by savoca.
3. More stuff from Qualcomm
Soon we'll start seeing a custom kernel for 64 bit oreo custom roms since GoldenEye has already released a few initial builds of LineageOS 15.1

Custom panel support
Do you think it'll be possible to also support Tianma panels in this kernel? They were supported in Nougat and I managed to get a working Oreo version by replacing whole drivers/touchscreen folder and building my own
montana_n:/ $ cat /sys/class/graphics/fb0/panel_name
mipi_mot_video_tianma_1080p_521
montana_n:/ $ cat /sys/class/graphics/fb0/panel_supplier

Warning: If you come from other kernel or have any issues, you should dirty flash your ROM before flashing blu_spark zip to avoid problems.
Reflash ROM -> flash TWRP --> reboot to recovery --> flash Magisk if you want (default, no plugins/modules) -> flash blu_spark.
If you are already rooted or upgrading between blu_spark versions, just flash the kernel zip. Also uninstall or clean data of any kernel control app you're using.
About bugs and troubleshoots: don't bother to post if a log isn't ready or without steps so the behavior can be replicated. I only active support stock OOS with NO mods whatsoever (apart from root). That includes NO support if using xposed, Magisk with modules, etc.
If you're using custom ROMs (including OOS based ones) or Open Betas you're on your own. I'm only interested on debugging stuff in stock and stable OOS.
Save the SOT and battery stats/screenshots for general threads, here we deal with development, not personal tastes and results.
Also don't spam this thread with CM or other ROMs stuff like "this don't work, my app doesn't open, etc" , no OT about OTAs, apps, ROM bugs, Recovery/TWRP troubleshoots and other userspace stuff. There's threads for it, use them.
Going back to stock: This kernel installer doesn't change your filesystem. You can backup your boot.img with TWRP before flashing blu_spark if you want to go back to full stock or just dirty flash your full ROM.
If you like my work, donations are always welcome.
Don't forget to hit thanks and rate the thread nicely, it's free

Good to see you here man. I have used some of your kernels over the years. Will try this out.
@eng.stk do you also plan to provide your famous blu_spark_twrp?
Have you read of the sleep of death/deadlock issues on this device? If so, do you have any ideas for the source of the issue?

CAF introduced 675 max gpu freq support for sm8150. Will you allow us to use it, but setting 585 as defualt? Less is more, i'm agree with you.
About deadlocks, someone calls it sleep of death, there is such problem. i faced it myself many times. As far as i can say, its faulty units problem. Replaced my unit and so far no deadlocks for 2 days already. With previous one i had it once in 3-6 hours.
@eng.stk
Nice to see you here. Only now I can buy OP7 PRO and retire my OP6.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Nice to see you here, finally! Flashing.....

Maybe, not apriority for me at the time, lot's of work to on the kernel.
I honestly use less and less twrp this days, do everything from the ROM with autoflash apps.

Have you read of the sleep of death/deadlock issues on this device? If so, do you have any ideas for the source of the issue?

Stuff is missing still, check git to see what's in (or ask us if you're after something in particular). The rest will come in time, can't do much more in less than a day ;p
Stuff in OP some are in, others are placeholder for what I intend to merge in.

Hum if it has CAF support I may look into it, no prob.
That issue seems nasty, is it a widespread thing? Never heard of it...

I am using the first release of the rom I've only changed the kernel to this one today... games I've only played Dream league 2020 and  summertime saga was working greatly I didn't tried heavy games
I didn't update to radical os v1.5 coz I heard there will be v2 soon with many fixes, plus to save my data it too costly here in my country
I don't know what's changed but I didn't notice it right of the bat. I played CODM I was getting same if not a little lower fps than with or without this kernel. But I did not try it with hKtweaker or whatever, but I will try it out. I also don't have screenshots just yet.
Its best and stable!!!
special thanks for you!!!
can you add CPU overclock to this kernel???
Do you support Kcal in future? I think we need higher saturation

Oneui is pie bruh, definitely it will not work on oreo
Sent from my Samsung SM-G610F using XDA Labs
Alex your skyrom is great?
Please overclock the processor
We need the new sky rom and kernel
This kernel works on Oreo too, I checked it myself, but have a one bug: smartphone charges only up to 97-98%.
thanks for the developments, please keep updating it.
