Any devolpment for H820? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I'm pretty confused has I only see H850 post'. Any information will be very usefull has I have a H820PR and I haven't seen any root method for it yet.

Behold the drama here. Apparently the project has been halted. :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Internet drama is going to happen, period. This is about something far more important - the ability to supersede the blocks put in place by the mobile carriers and phone manufacturers.

I emailed jcase and offered to give him $$$ but he said no - the project is halted. What a bummer. I'm hoping somebody else will step up.

What the hell happened? I leave for like a week and come back to... what? What's the TLDR of that thread? Was that the original bounty thread? TF?

Yes, that was the original bounty thread. My understanding is the OP on the above thread released some very rough code from the devs and a few people bricked their phones and got upset. The OP defended himself by saying the code was publicly available to share. Personally I think it's very unwise to try out code in prod until it's been tested extensively first, obv, but what I don't get is why the project was halted based on the actions of a few dummies.

Ah yeah I noticed it was from a while ago. I'm super upset about that, I absolutely am hating this phone without root. Honestly. I want to go back to my G3.

I really dont know why there isn't devopment for the G5. Reaally good phone but without root, I'm thinking of chaging to S7.

You should. I'm not too hopeful about things now. Nothing is happening.

Desire/Legend Root and its effect on us.

So HTC's two new 2.1 phones were rooted by Paul O'Brian, hours after he had his hands on them.
http://twitteling.com/2010/04/htc-desire-and-htc-legend-has-succeeded-in-the-root/
Apparently it was 'easy'. He is without internet and on vacation for two weeks, so no more details.
For Legend/Desire users it does not mean much yet, due to file systems being locked. However if this could be used on our 2.1 ROMs, we would be wide open.
Did we miss something simple? If you have time, and willingness please join me in looking for something simple, that could of been overlooked by both HTC and ourselves. This has been on my mind for days.
Several Desire owners have informed me that oem unlock is disabled just like our phones, so the n1 method is not what he used. I image the desire/legend kernel is somewhat close to our's. Like our's, no kernel source is available.
Any Shots are welcome.
Is there a way of contacting this Paul guy?

I dont want to get flamed just asking wasn't this orginally posted on April Fools Day is it possiblly a fake. I'm no expert and devs could probably look at the picture and tell?

It was posted on April 1st, its not a joke.
Long time Lurker, first time poster.
I know that the roms from HTC are signed and it would be almost imposable to hack the key used to sign the roms. However have the developers looked at it from the other direction? Do we know how the Eris stores the certificate that is used to check the signed Roms? Dose the Eris use a keystore for this and is that store shared with the web browser? Would it be possible to Inject or replace the Cert in order to sign our own roms? I'm guessing not but you never know.
I'm not a dev so its ok to flame me if this is way off base or been covered before.
Also thank to all the Dev's for all of your hard work.

well this is atleast something positive. Lets hope this guy is our savior...
I hope he's having a wonderful vacation , the dev team deserves it

@jcase: I'm thinking he just used a pre-compiled root (asroot/m7 etc), which would be the easiest possible way to do it. We have tried pretty much all known kernel sploits a hundred different ways and the Eris kernel still stands untouched. However, if these newer phones are vulnerable to the same exploits (need official word on this from Paul), then perhaps they're not patched on Eris, but are just incompatible / working not as intended.
Bounty?
Is the bounty still alive/in effect?
Chances are he doesn't own an Eris. Then again, he might not need to...
If so, well, I'd be willing to contribute to getting one into his hands.
The second build of the leak is acting up for me. I was pretty happy with the first one actually. This is what being impatient does
It'll be awesome to see how this was done as the security on the devices seems similar to ours from the limited amount I can see...
I didn't realize he still was on vacation, I assumed he waited to report his findings until he got home.

He "found" it before ever seeing one of the phones, just a leaked rom. I think its a permissions issue that we may have overlooked in 2.1.
thawkth, about 5 minutes after he releases details, I will know if it applies to us.
I don't think anyone gives a damn about the bounty, if someone does contact caboose and pay him his dues (if he wants them), he got us the root.
I know that jcase isn't really haggin with us any more so hopefully someone will be following up with this, it sounds promising. I am keeping an eye on the OP over at modaco but I am not sure that I have the knowledge base to replicate Pual's work if he shares his exploit. Thanks
I too am hoping this guy can help us.. he is our last hope imo.... short of htc leaking something again.
Well there won't be any news today as we may have thought. Paul seems to stuck on his vacation for a few extra days thanks to the volcano.

lol.. little does he know the storm of users that are anxiously awaiting his return...
I'm wondering what is the manufacturers' goal of the devices being locked. No ability to change their **** software? Possible claims from unresponsible users?
I don't understand this world...
HTC Sense is piece of crap (changed it to n1 launcher, but it still occupies my phone's storage space),
HTC apps are piece of crap (calendar sucks, majority of widgets suck)... wish i was able to uninstall them..
Please give us root!
Some would say - buy n1 instead... but hey, I like the look of desire and it's optical trackball... if it has to be present anyway...

I hate to be that guy..

but anyone have status on rooting the v3 leak or the others?

maybe its because of ppl like you they are holding out. do you think yuo asking in yet another thread if its been done its going to make a dev that might be holding out so oh ya, here you go, now i will give it to you?
as stated a zillion times, they will release it when they release it. they enjoy doing this stuff and love to show their work off, so when its done, it will be posted and as stated above, be first post in forum as everyone will be hitting it up
lol kevlar very well said. im sure there are tons of ppl waiting and to post numerous threads asking isnt going to make it available any faster..it will be done when its done. glad i waited for root and didnt jump the gun on leak
Its funny if you think about it. They couldn't wait for root and used the leak, now they are being impatient about root on the leak. How can anybody win with these people?
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
Well, not everyone who upgraded realized it was a leak and not root, thus, being very interested in finding an exploit. When a popular site that is all about unlocking phones has a tutorial that has you install the leak first then you become SOL. That being said, there are already threads just like this on the next page making this quite redundant.

To quash some of the preconcived notions that the Devs screwed you all into putting Leak on and waiting it out..There are at least 4 I know of and I was a tester for one of them and we all have leak. I went another route and you all had the same opportunity to do the same so winning and moaning about the leak root won't Make it happen faster.
JCase, Jamezelle, Framework(I think), Me, Captainkirk TheFuzz we all had leak v1 on our phones first to test if it was ok. Mistakes are made and that is how you find out how it works.
Some one close this thread. It is poison to the Forum.
....but you went there anyhow?
Self loathing ftw?
The devs aren't withholding anything. You are free to come to the irc in channel #root to see what is being worked on.
The reason you don't see a whole lot posted on the forums about it is because the methods we are working with are not simple and there isn't much to say about it. Us posting things will just get more and more people asking about it, which detracts from the actual dev's time that are working on it.
In other words, when root is found, you'll know. PERIOD.
You messed up by installing leak, suck it up and fork out the $90 for a replacement. Not a big deal and you end up looking like an butthead (like me) by asking over and over if its rooted yet. Don't you think the forum would be flipping it's poop if leakers got root? There would be 30 threads about it and they would all probably be on the home page. Keep your pants on and your mouth closed or buy a new phone.

A New Melvin?

To do as Litetaker requested I am starting a new thread regarding MischiefsMommy's information that she posted regarding that she "may" have an unlocked bootloader and/or some kind of software that can help us to unlock our phones.
I personally think this is way too good to be true, but I think that this is important enough to start a discussion in a new thread about.
I do not want any childish banter between angry parties in this thread , but I do want to know how everyone feels about this information.
IMHO I am hoping and praying that she is right and that some tech at VZW sent her something awesome, something good has to happen to the Motorola community eventually right?
Fire away....
Don't get too off topic Ash....

Yeah, it is definitely a possibility that that is the case. The whole reason I posted this is because it has been so long since we heard anything from either of them.
Perhaps they have been PMing instead of going at it in a thread since it was such a heated discussion before.
I don't understand why people are even giving this the time of day. If we get an unlocked bootloader its not going to come from an idiot user who claims to have got it from verizon. Your just feeding the trolls here. Just ignore those comments and move on. Secondly, people are getting a little too emotional about a phone. Someone said we have been burned as a community and we don't want to get hurt again. Really? If your getting your feelings hurt over a phone you may have some other issues you need to take a look at in your life other then a unlocked bootloader.

true, but I'm also thinking that this may be possible, that this could be the way to unlock the bootloader without having to buy another phone. Maybe i'm being too optimistic about this, but that's just how I feel, and how I was raised. Maybe this has to do with me being screwed over by a girl I was in love with because she moved onto her "high school sweetheart," and me wearing my heart on my sleeve, but that's just life. I'm trying to get the best out of my phone until I can upgrade to the GNex or the next best thing, but as of right now, I'm going to see this to the end and if that means I'm going to get hurt again "over a phone" then so be it. I'm going into this to optimistic, too involved, but oh well, that's me not you.

I think it was me who said that. Granted I exaggerated it a little. But I definitely felt notably dissapointed by Melvin when he came trolling here. After all, I paid $200 of my hard earned cash for this turd of a phone and at that price I could have done a LOT of stuff. So, sorry for having feelings for the $200 of my money! sorry, I guess this seems like a bit of petty quarrel and is exactly opposite of what the OP asked us to do but I felt your comment needs some perspective and explanation.
Moreover, I guess given that you gave a Gnex, you don't seem to understand the pains of users with unlocked bootloaders!!!

Yeah I'm not sure how I missed this either, but reading through her posts she seems to be extremely confused about things. I'm not sure how one can be aware of or unlock their phone and not know how to get a screenshot app.
Just going out on a limb here, but I think she is really just talking about the Razr and is just confused or maybe thinks that what will happen with the Razr will apply to the dx2.

Because of that 1% nobody knows if she is right or wrong. NOBODY. You cannot say she is wrong without knowing the facts yourself and why not hold onto that glimmer of hope, if you read the original post I did ask for opinions, but I did not ask for your opinion on the validity of threads.
I see that you agree that this is most likely false, but it was taking up a lot of space in a different thread and I for one am interested enough to try to find out more.
I told everyone I am willing to attempt all of the tests once the soak/actuall update come out so if we can unlock the bootloader before that even happens I would be in heaven, I hate Moto Blur....

Nah, I'm kidding. Good riddance.
Even ignoring the insults between myself and her, I don't think it's debatable at this point whether or not she's a troll (or equally possible: horribly, horribly confused).
I think my summary from that thread summed it up pretty efficiently.
theredvendetta said:
So let me recap.
We have an illiterate Droid Razr owner posting on the Droid X2 forums about talking on the phone with a Verizon representative about an unlocked bootloader (even though Verizon doesn't do jack **** with android) for their phone, which is a Razr, even though she claims it will work for an X2 (actually she hasnt, she just posts about it in the X2 forums. The ****?). This person tells us that the unlock our phones, and it will come alongside an ICS distro at the end of April.
Okay, cool, I didn't believe a word of it, but that at least is a possibility worth considering. That is, until they posted more information.
So as we ask her more about why she's in our forums and why the Verizon rep would have this information (keep in mind, a rep would never have this information if even Motorola reps don't), and she drops a bombshell: she's got an unlocked bootloader. OUT OF ****ING NOWHERE. Not ONCE before this did she care to mention she was unlocked. This contradicts everything she said before this; why does she have it now if it's coming at the end of April.
Alright, let's move on.
So apparently, she found this bootloader unlock on the Verizon site. Again, this contradicts her own story in more ways than I care to mention. Not only that, but Verizon would NOT be in possession of such a tool. It's not as if they even know how to work with Android; they are a service provider!
And finally, she presents us with a file she claims she found on the Verizon site (which she did not) and that it will allow us to unlock our bootloader by entering (this is what I could decipher) a series of ones and then a string of 7 random numbers and letters.
K. I don't know why anyone is still trying. This is worthless. It seems I'm the only voice of reason whenever people try to troll us. This is what, the third time? Fourth? I can't remember.

Are you serious you post a thread asking for peoples opinions on this and then you want me to not post because you don't like my opinion, or because it isn't what you intended for people to post? What you posted in your thread left this open for discussion. My opinion is its complete BS. Like someone said if we get an unlocked boot loader someone will have the tool or the means and post it. Not dance around answers and complain about migraines. Why even feed into it?
Also yes I do have a gnex but I still have my x2 and use it frequently at home. I too want an unlocked bootloader.

[Q] HELP - child wiped out phone (brick?) and mom needs help...

hi everyone! I am seeking your expertise as I came upon this forum trying to help my son fix his phone. He's only 11 years old- but as we call him at home our "tech guy". He got a brand new HTC One M8 yesterday and 3 hours later - the phone was "bricked" as I have been told. Apparently, (these are his words) he "unlocked the bootloader using HTCdev, then flashed twrp, then flashed supersu.zip.
I have no idea what any of that means but apparently he did something wrong because his phone is not working and we don't know how to fix it. If you have any compassion for a frustrated Mom who's trying not to be angry with her son -- I would appreciate any advice you can give on how to fix this.
I have attached a picture of what the phone looks like when we turn it on. Not sure how to get picture in post.
Thanks a bunch!!

I'm going to venture to guess that the process will be entirely too long and tedious for someone not well versed to follow and could potential end in disaster. The phone isn't bricked since the main recovery menu pops up. I'd suggest looking on craigslist for someone locally to help you guys out. Unless someone here can offer a quick fix, i'd much rather you find someone that has experience to fix this in person. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for but that would probably be your best bet

UPDATE
Thank you for your responses! Much appreciated. Believe it or not - this kid fixed it all by himself. Basically (remember I am not technical) he unlocked the boot loader then flashed a ROM onto an SD card and was able to load. Don't think I worded correctly - but it's fixed and working fine. WHEW!!
I will certainly keep the info to this forum handy because something tells me that I will be visiting again with this child..................
Have a great evening!!
p.s. I typed the wrong key -- he's 12 not 11

I started getting into ROMs your sons age. I am 15 now. I have hard bricked a Motorola Atrix 2, meaning it won't turn on at all. That's cool your son is a tech wizard too, it will do him a lot of good and a lot of bad. You should educate him about Ubuntu and let him screw with that on a PC. Much safer messing with a computer than a phone. Anyways, glad he got it working. ?

Me too! Im 14 now.
The M8 is my first android phone and custom roms seem to get better and better.
The phone was not "bricked", and you are using the term improperly. Your son simply did something to make the phone unable to boot into the Android operating system. This state is usually easy to recover from, as long as the proper steps are known. So that is not a brick.
Itis of course your choice whether to let your kid modify (mod) your phone in such ways. And part of the modding process is always going to involve some hiccups (for even the most experienced users) and figuring out how to fix them. So I'm glad your son figured it out.
On the other hand, both you and he should be fully aware (if not already) that modding the phone may void the warranty, and also permanent damage (a true "brick") is possible if he doesn't fully understand what he is doing. Such damage is not covered by warranty.
To the OP (original poster), please do not create multiple thread asking the same question.
Its against forum rules, and makes it super confusing for those trying to help you.

You got your 11-year-old a $700 smartphone. What did you think would happen? Why in the world does a kid that young even need a smartphone?

I agree about his technical skills being alot of good and bad! We've had our share with him-- I won't bore you with the lists. My husband is the tech guy (of course he was away on business when this happened) and he understands his quest for knowledge and how much he loves this stuff - -says it's how he learns. Hubby has given him some old laptops and ipods and he sure has fun with those!

Oh, I'm sorry. Are you counting the on contract price? Okay. Well, throw it on the ground or drop it in a pool or give it to a child to ruin. Now go back to the store to get a replacement and see how much it costs. You also signed a contract and took on an extra monthly data plan... For a child. The fact that you have no clue how much the phone actually costs explains a lot, actually.
I'm not concerned about your wallet. You clearly have more money than sense, so rather than crying here, just go buy a replacement phone for him to ruin. While you're at it, go ahead and get him an espresso machine.

Seems like she asked a question to a problem and it was answered. I'm not sure how taking a personal shot at a newcomer to the forum accomplishes anything. Her decision to buy her son anything is hers and hers alone, why inject your opinion into it, much less insinuate that she has no sense. It comes off as aloof and petty. This doesn't seem to be in the spirit of this forum. Flame away.

Thanks a bunch for your support and from all of those who responded. I've visited various forums in my life and am well aware that there are always those few who just like to be mean and find power on these boards. I didn't come here asking for anyone's opinion on what I allow my children to do or how they spend their allowance - just needed some advice. Sincerely appreciate the great input that I have received.

The actual retail cost of the device is $639; which would also be the replacement cost of this device. The on-contract price of $199 is just a subsidized cost, which the carrier basically spreads over the length of your 2-year contract.

Bootloader conspiracy deception theory

Not sure if bootloader is being worked on or are people actually waiting for lg to make good on their rumor to open bootloader back in august? I bet their lying just so devs dont work on it. Lokie as a middle appetizer would be great.

Really???
Nobody is waiting for LG since the unlock would not apply to Verizon.
Their vs. They're. Contraction.
ALso the devs aren't going to release a Loki exploit since it requires them to stop work on trying to unlock the bootloader.
Just chill.
Moderator, can you close this ridiculous thread?

Perhaps do a bit of reading/searching before you post. If you had done so you would have found a couple different threads regarding LG no longer unlocking bootloaders as well as info about the progress of the developers working on unlocking/exploiting it.
This video should explain everything you need to know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA

Ill just shut up and wait for mtv's next big hit....nerd bully beat down. Lol
LG G3 bootloader was an inside job!
When I was awaiting the unlock of the Galaxy S3 bootloader, the devs working on it had a thread they use to collaborate with each other on information about the bootloader. I couldn't tell you who is working on the G3 bootloader unlock.
I'm all for a good conspiracy, but this one is pushing it.
Its a forum. Especially since xda doesn't have one labeled "funny bone then "genearal"....here we are. Good joke comments to all posters with that lighter side. Not much talk about boot loader except cash to the guy when it comes out. Sorry I have not signed up as a donor to bootcrack but that doesn't mean I won't send one. Now as far as a conspiracy....chalk it up to a sketchy sense of humor. What I was attempting to do was stir the pot for a "on my way to the game" fix.... Oh look its lokie!

Regardless of if you think they are working on it or not, creating this thread is incredibly disrespectful to the people who are working on it. What exactly do they stand to gain by lieing to us? A lot less then if they were to unlock it.
Maybe next time you should WAIT to buy the phone until they do unlock it. ESPECIALLY if you have Verizon, cause with them, there is no guarantee. Hence the reason I'm sending this from an s4 and not a G3.

The liars were the "LG corporate devs" who announced an unlocker. Not our forum devs. I've always had respect for all and even more for the devs. I feel my post was not nor was it intended to be disrespectful to devs. I had read that they had lokie as an alternative incase they couldn't unlock. Throw us something to play with for the time being was all I said and am still saying. Yours and a few others are just a misinterpretation of my views and intentions. Sorry your mad. I'm also mad I'm going through chemo. And I have nothing to do but sit in this hospital chair playing with my locked phone that the fund raiser donated to me that I did not choose myself. Sorry for the inconvience.
i can see op's point. nothing has been proved that they are working or close to anything on g3. we saw a twrp photo of a g3 (supposedly verizon g3) but honestly i am concerned the g3 wont see safestrap/loki/recovery etc i have lost all faith
