[INFO] Successfully Flashed A2017G B02 to A2017U - ZTE Axon 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

A2017G B02 successfully flashed and booted on A2017U (using update.zip). WiFi/Bluetooth and GPS working. Only broken piece is the cellular.
There are a few more color choices in themes but no 'Android Stock' theme. And a glove mode which would likely be useful here in northern Canada.
This should be good news for development as there appears to be only the modem differentiating the ROMs.
Now to see how well I can return to A2017U [UPDATE] Returning to A2017U I had to delete my call logs. The database version was newer in the A2017G, and it created a launcher crash loop. I used titanium backup to delete the call logs.
Don't do this. You could quite likely brick. But if you're going to anyway:
Point 1 : If this doesn't make sense to you, don't do it; you're in over your head.
Get a backup of ALL of your partitions using dd.
I copied the A2017G B02 update.zip to the root of my SD card, and flashed the recovery.img from that update.zip overtop of TWRP from within TWRP using dd. Refer to Point 1. Booted the phone to system, went to updates, and did the factory update from root of SD card. Remember, you will be stock A2017G which means no root/TWRP. You will have to use the method here assuming you now have an A2017G to get TWRP back on the device. I then flashed my NON-HLOS.bin from the backup I made earlier over modem partition.
The launcher sucks more than the stock one on A2017U as there is no menu button.
I believe you could just flash system.img (system.new.dat) and boot.img to get the same experience as that's the only two I flashed to return to A2017U (I had to flash NON-HLOS.bin back to A2017U).

Really good to know, so it should be also possible reversely and a ray of hope to unlock the G version somehow

Nice work! I guess this answers my questions as to whether the flash would unlock the different bands not included on the north American variant

Someone flash the U version to G please since the U version is a lot better than G atm haha

Well, that would be part of the modem part, which isn't the same. The only way to get that to happen would be to use the QC recovery tools that let you tinker in the actual modem bits.

Unfortunately, we can't do that well since there aren't any U factory images yet. It would have to be cobbled together from backups people make of all the different partitions, and even then it would have to be done via a bootloader unlocked version, which is only the U model.
Com' on ZTE -- release those factory images.

Hmm so that still sounds promising. Obviously we won't get hands on the recovery tool though?

Can you try something before you switch back? If you have a good router (ac, multiple streams, 5ghz) can you check your link speed? You can use an app like aida64 to spit that info out in the network tab. The reason I ask, is because 2017U (actual models not software) reports 433Mbps being the max, while 2017G reports 866Mbps. We are trying to figure out if the US model got the cheaper wifi chip or if they screwed up the code.

Nice to know that it's just a software thing.
Can you also try going far from your router, into an area with low signal, and turn on the "Signal Boost" option? Would be interesting to see if that's another software thing.

From the graphic on 'signal boost', it's for cellular (telephony) only. Wifi is not pictured or mentioned.

With root, you should be able to dd or cat out all of the partitions from a root shell. Then you can backup all of the partitions as they exist in flash (blank space and all).

DD does not care about file extensions. It also doesn't care if you should flash to the wrong partition and permanently brick your device.

Root idea ATT G5

Has anyone tried using send_command to flash the LAF partition to BOOT (for backup sakes.. Need to be able to revert), after backing up to sdcard obviously, then flashing TMOBILE LAF to LAF partition. Rebooting the device again to download, now fastboot and oem unlocking? I was able to get this working on my old G3, I just got stuck in fastboot due to lg not having an official unlock tool (now available). From there TWRP could be flashed, and then root! After flashing the stock boot of course!!
Seriously!? Nobody responded!???? Maybe post this in the G5 Q&A????

No, and honestly I don't think there will be. AT&T has locked this device down, and I mean locked it down HARD. If AT&T will release a tot or kdz then maybe we could get root, as someone could just make a pre-rooted system of the tot or kdz (right, guys?) but until (or if) they release it, I don't think there will be root. I would be willing to test for some things if I knew I could just flash back to stock if things go wrong but right now I can't, so I'm not willing to test for anything as I don't have the money to just go purchase another device if this one bricks.

You are kind of on the right path, but there is no way to just "flash" the t-mobile LAF partition. There are too many security variables that you need to find a work-around for, along with trying to find a way to get it onto your device.
Another thing is that THE SEND_COMMAND DOES NOT WORK ON THE G5. This has been talked about on many other threads, and it doesn't work.

Well the biggest issue is on top of AT&T locking the device down, they aren't releasing a kdz or tot file.
I've been out of the game for awhile, but aren't they obligated to due to open source?

Yea that's what I was thinking. How can they be the only carrier that doesn't have to release the FW? They do the same thing on the AT&T S7 and S7E. Can they be sued for that?

Just wanted to give a huge thank you for posting these. I flashed one and it fixed my GPS issue so thank you so much.
One question, is there anywhere to see the release dates of each radio? I'm just curious the order of which is oldest and newest.
Thank you again.
I have a XT1603 (Brazil) with the build number MPIS24.241-15.3-7, if i flash the fastboot MPIS24.241-15.3-7 will work, right? And can you provide a link to the zip MPIS24.241-15.3-7 that i can flash with adb through PC?

You can use simg2img to unsparse the NON-HLOS.bin to NON-HLOS.raw, then use a hex editor to search for the date.
You can do the same with fsg, the other component of the radio, also; it is already unsparsed, so no need to use simg2img.

Thanks again for the radios and for helping me check the dates! I have one more question which I can't seem to answer myself.
In the names of the radios, some start with MPI (example MPI24.241-15.3) while other radios begin with MPIS (example MPIS24.241-15.3-7). Do you know what this difference means? I have not been unable to find the meaning of this difference. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what the difference is either, except that "MPIS" seems to be on the most recent builds.
Sorry for all the questions, but I do have another.
As I have been having constant GPS problems, I have been trying many of the radios to see if there is any solution or change to the issue. I havent found a solution yet.
I am curious if you think there is any danger or risk in flashing one of the amazon/verizon radios on a non-verizon or non-amazon phone? The baseband version is the same as my phone on stock the only difference being you have versions listed for Verizon and Amazon as well.
Thanks again for all the help.
@Q9Nap,
Thank you so much for these files.
Question:
Which one of the fastboot files is for the xt1607 U.S. Retail version?
Also, I have the xt1609 Verizon variant of the Moto G4 play. Can I flash the fastboot files for the xt1607 on my phone?
Since there are no gpt or bootloader files I'm wondering if it will work?
Thanks

The only difference between standard and verizon/amazon builds is the oem partition; everything else is the same.
So you could flash those radios, but the result wouldn't be any different.

If you've somehow managed to unlock the xt1609 bootloader, then yes you can use these files; afaik though, an unlock solution hasn't been released as of this writing.
I have flashed xt1609 files on my xt1607 successfully though, so it would work if the bootloader was unlocked.

Unfortunately the xt1609 bootloader is not unlockable at the moment. (neither is there any root method for it. Bummer, huh?)
I just thought that the files could be flashed through adb fastboot as long as I didn't try to flash the bootloader and gpt, which are not included in these files, but apparently the bootloader would still need to be unlocked.

[Flashable (TWRP/FlashFire)] S8(+) Stock Addons

Void's S8 Stock Additions
This is a flashable ZIP and should work with any S8/S8+ stock ROM. If you're on a Snapdragon device then use FlashFire but if you're on a Exynos device you can use TWRP.
Notes:
This is not a full ROM, it's supposed to be flashed OVER stock, do not wipe system.
Added system applications are all arm64 nodpi
After flashing you may want to go into Settings -> Apps -> More -> Default Apps and change them.
Tested versions of stock:
G955U1 AQH3
G955U Verizon AQI6 (my carrier is T-Mobile but Multi-CSC makes it work fine)
Features:
SuperSU: Classic system root
Busybox: Terminal utilities
Multi-OMC: Means it should make any ROM compatible with your carrier, carrier boot animations and sounds are removed
Replaced Samsung apps with Google Apps: Phone, Clock, Messages, Contacts
Removed Knox: Removes the constant notification about modifications
S-Health fixed: Samsung Health will work without complaining about modifications
Bixby Removed & Remapped: Bixby button activates device assistant
DRM Fix: Netflix won't hang but you still need to grab it from apkmirror
Radio: Samsung's stock radio
Dev Tools: Development tools, you might want to remove this but I prefer it
Pixel 2 Launcher & Wallpapers
Google Emoji: Replaces SEx emoji with stock Nougat ones
Note: Samsung Camera is kept for shooting photos 18.5:9, disable/delete it if you want.
Change log:
v1.1:
Samsung Keyboard and Gallery is now removed
Added Google Photos and my port of Google Camera 5.1. Slow motion doesn't crash but won't work (instantly stops recording).
Now that Samsung Gallery is gone, you won't be able to click on the most recent picture in Samsung Camera. You'll have to go into Google Photos manually. Sorry.

Yep, pain in the ass as it may be. I'd update the post to specify this still requires that. Having root listed as a feature makes it seem like this is a rooting method, even if it isn't. Maybe specify this requires the user to already be rooted, as you're listing root as a feature.

As I said the root method I shared is NOT for the F variant. You can already just flash twrp and do whatever with those

He was asking and I was responding to questions about the root method he asked for. I updated my response to make that clear.

F variant is the international exynos model. All us devices are the same u or u1 variant, with some only having different model numbers to indicate they are sim locked.
Pretty sure given the g950u has a locked bootloader this isn't compatible since Samsung will boot saying custom binary and won't load. Unless I'm wrong and somebody with this model got this working. But I'm willing to bet it doesn't

Thanks for the upload! (Though that seems to be like a SUPER sketchy site... I had to like download it... then download it AGAIN... and there were all kinds of browser warnings...)
Oh well! Least we have the file now!
Have you used this one? And... if so... Is your Software status in the Bootloader still "Official"?
Since i took my device under sea water my USB port is having some issues... can we flash this without PC?
Running 8.1 reteu(XT1900-7)(OPW28.46-21)(magisk)

Is magisk working in this rom? Tried to flash it through recovery. It says magisk has been installed successful, but can't find it after reboot.

There is also a retail build. Is lte band 20 supported by br-release? I installed xt1900-6 brasil on my xt1900-7 and i didn't find a why to list the supported lte bands. Now i think about installing retail rom.

I put the Retail link on the OP, I think you can flash only modem.
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
Flashed over 8.1 without any trouble...pie is working without any problems so far. Will OTA update work? I suppose, yes ..but not sure.
I think I know the answer but it's worth a shot..... Can this be flashed to the Amazon version of the Moto x4?

I'm not familiar with the Amazon variant but I'm pretty sure I read where bootloader can't be unlocked?
This can be flashed without the device being unlocked using the locked.bat file (I think).
Can someone else confirm this?

LG G8 Volte Fix.

So to use this, you will need to be bootloader unlocked, magisk perma rooted, and twrp installed, DM Verity Disabled this is a must!!(its always good to make a nandroid before making any changes on your phone). What this will do is more or less provision your Lg G8 to your Desired Carrier, it will also let you change your apns, so you have volte working and also the data indicator will change to match the carrier. WIfi calling i have not been able to get working, i personally do not use it. .
*Copy the files manually, it seems flashing them directly is causing unforeseen issues*
1.Extract to Content of zip to Sdcard
2.Make a copy/backup of your own files apns.xml,,custom_apk_list.xml,telephony.xml inside /product/op/config and cust.prop from /product
3.Copy and paste the files from my zip to:
apns.xml,,custom_apk_list.xml,telephony.xml to /product/op/config
cust.prop to /product/op
make sure permissions are 644.
4.Reboot your device it should now be provisioned to your Desired Carrier.

Mr. zhu for bringing us TWRP.
After every boot I will be welcomed by this message:
"Current version is not available for user can't find matched cust. Check NT-code"
Additionally there is no VoLTE switch. At least I can access my APN settings now.

Hi. I have a LM-G820UM that I got off ebay a while ago. It boots as Sprint. It's unlocked and I'm on Tmobile. VOLTE/calls only work on 3G and if there is no 3G available then I can't receive/make calls. With Tmobile requiring VOLTE effective Jan, will this fix the issue to where I don't need to buy a new phone?

Only way to enable volte on a sprint unlocked phone , while active on tmobile is to bootloader unlock it. and flash my fix.
my network is gonna require volte and it is no where to be found. i have a verizon unlocked lg g8. is it possible to unlock that one with a fix to get volte to work?

Only way to get Volte for your specific network is to unlock the bootloader, as you will need the op files from the network you want to use volte for.
Has anyone tried these on the Sprint V50 and/or GSI ROMs?
