Is is possible to go from 4.1.1 rooted to 4.4.2 rooted? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I rooted my I605 three years ago (through CASUAL, if memory serves, and that's the last time I've played with rooting and related topics) and I'd like to upgrade to the highest OS possible (that's 4.4.2, right?) but still keep root. I have TWRP installed. My Note II is nagging me to upgrade with an OTA (not sure what it is specifically) but I keep deferring it. What steps do I need to take to upgrade to 4.4.2 and keep root (stock ROM), and is that even possible? If someone can point me in the right direction thread-wise that would be greatly appreciated (there's a lot of info on this site but I'm having a hard time trying to find one specific to my situation.)

The best option to use is Beanstown rom for the 4.4.2, once you take the OTA to upgrade to 4.4.2 you can still root but you will not have an unlocked bootloader. Beanstown has pulled files/firmware and radio to have the most recent upgrades but still leaves the 4.1.2 bootloader on your device to be fully unlocked.

[Q] Noob with a Verizon S4 and root question

I have a rooted Nook tablet so not a complete noob, but how safe is the root process for a verizon Galaxy s4? I'd like to root it so I can get rid of some of the junk apps and install others I want, but I void my two yr warranty...thoughts from the experts? just want to feel comfortable moving forward and if so, is there a set of clear instructions somewhere?
Thanks to all

Instead of an asinine comment that does you no go, here's some info.
Yes, rooting will void the warranty. However, you can always Odin to go back to stock should you have an issue that requires returning your phone to VZW.
I've rooted both my old S3 and my current S4. I JUST started rooting on the S3, so I'm relatively new as well but have learned a lot. My S3 was stock rooted, but I took the plunge with my S4 and am running HyperDrive ROM which is HOLY MOLY sweetness.
It's up to you, but if you're going to root, perhaps look at the ROMs that are available and flash one. I'm not sorry that I started flashing Roms. Not one bit

Three replies thus far and yours is the only one of solid benefit..thanks. Can you point me anywhere to see step by step to accomplish what you did on your S4?

Here is the link to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798
How old is your S4? The reason that I ask is that there was an OTA update the broke root. Currently there are Dev's looking into how to root with the new firmware.
Have you installed the OTA update?
Phone is about a month old...I have made no changes to the existing phone so I don.t know about the OTA update (although the VW software that came with it appears to update the phones software when plugged into laptop)

Go to ->Setting->More->About Phone and tell me what you Baseband version says. If it's VRUAME7, you have the OTA update. If it's VRUAMDK, you do not.
confirming VRUAME7

No.....there is no way to uninstall the update. Patience, young rooting grasshopper! A new method will be out shortly, I would imagine. Doesn't usually take too long,
Much appreciated...and lastly can you point me to how I would reinstall what you refer to as Odin should I screw up a future root process?

Q: Do I goto 4.3 ?

All:
I have my note II rooted, and its running 4.1.2
I received the OTA today, and I chose not to download it. Just curious on what folks are doing ?
I dont run any custom rom on my Note II, I just use it for rooting purposes....
if I do want to upgrade to 4.3 what is the suggested path of action ?
I thought I could use wugfresh I guess not though ?
Thanks

Once you upgrade to 4.3 OTA, your bootloader is locked and root is gone, along with the generally unwelcome addition of Samsung's KNOX technology. No bootloader exploit currently exists. If you upgrade by flashing one of the ROM's here on XDA or the non-OTA update to 4.3 (check the Android Development forum), you get the latest software and keep an unlocked bootloader & root.

Wife gave me my Christmas present yesterday...(a Note 2 she bought used...lovely phone). It started an update when I fired it up, (has been so long since I rooted my Bionic, I completely forgot about OTA's) It now has 4.3, and the only sort of tethering I can mange with it is usb pdanet, which merely qualifies as 'better than nothing', as it often drops out. Might have to put the damn thing in a drawer and fire up the Bionic until the tech gods here work it out. Am downloading a zip from another thread mentioned by Tfly12 that purports to get around the entitlement check...will see

Can't flash that zip though can ya? Trust me. Loosing tethering is the biggest thing that ticks me off about 4.3.
Hate having to have an nonroot phone for work.

not sure yet, my last experience with this was the Bionic....and after I got it doing what I wanted it to do.....never bothered with it again. Now I'm trying to learn everything Samsung, (precious little of Motorola knowledge seems to apply here....I always thought Odin was a Viking god...) so I don't end up in one of those frantic "HELPME! Seems like I should wait then... It tried to download and install last night but it failed, so it just rebooted and i am good... probably because i have recovery on... not sure....
I prefer to honestly just go back to stock, and then maybe goto 4.3 once there is a good root out there....

I made the same move after my speaker started going on my BIONIC, fortunately for me I made the move to the N2 a few months ago. If you are lucky and someone is able to get the bootloader unlocked on 4.3, you should find this device much easier to work with then using Safestrap and all that other jazz. Odin is sort of like using HOB except I have only had to use it twice and not constantly. Once to unlock the bootloader initially and just recently to update the modem and wifi parameters when I made the move to 4.3
Hopefully someone can help you get set up to use the N2 the way you need it.

Rooting MK2/4.3? Is it Possible? What are my options?

Verizon just replaced my S3 for an S4 due to my specific model/color being out of stock.
I had rooted my previous S3, but that first one broke and the replacement they sent had the locked bootloader. Fortunatley (?) the power button was wonkey causing all sorts of issues, so they replaced it with this S4.
Now, I'm guessing the bootloader is locked on this as well, correct? If so, then what can I do? I would love to install Cyanogenmod on it, but I'm guessing that's not an option. I've searched here and other forums, but haven't found much on this particluar build. The build on this phone is: i545vruemk2, running 4.3.
Thanks in advance!

Okay, I'm still a bit confused on something. This is what I've done so far.
1. Rooted via Saferoot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758).
2. Installed SafeStrap 3.71 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441).
3. Installed Hyperdrive RLS15 S4 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=389#downloads).
My confusion comes from looking into the latest version of Hyperdrive (RLS18.1). Should I upgrade to that version? If so, it says that I need to be on the NC5 firmware. It looks like I can upgrade to NC5 from MK2 from reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2720163.
So, would that be my course of action? From what I am reading, I can upgrade to NC5 without touching my bootloader. I'm really gunshy now about upgrading firmware since it didn't go so well on that last S3. I just want to make sure I do any more "harm" for myself upgrading. I want my device to be as open and rooted as possible and don't want to make any mistakes.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
yeah it's totally possible to upgrade to NC5 without touching your bootloader. I didn't go the safestrap route of upgrading, instead i Odin'd everything but I grabbed it from the same thread. sorry for the late reply

[Q] My phone is rooted, how do I unroot it?

Sorry I know you guys get common stuff like this a lot, and as such I searched for my issue but everything I found lead me to a dead end.
I'm currently using VZW Galaxy S4 (SCH-i545) with build VRUDMI1 and android 4.2.2
I had disabled OTA updates by using a guide about a year ago. I'm needing to unroot my phone and put it back to stock so I can get OTA and move on to 4.4 (I don't know enough about custom roms and flashing to do it without OTA).
From what I read, I need to use odin to flash a tar file while in download mode. Problem is, I don't know which file to get. I've looked at some guides but I can't find a working link for an SCH-545 VRUDMI1 with 4.2.2
Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your time.

Yea, this will update and unroot all in one. Like the post said, if that update doesn't work, then grab the NC2 one. It would be best to factory reset as well.

[Q] root android 5.0.1

Will CF auto root would it be able to root android 5.0.1. I really do not care about the Samsung knots being trigger my phone is already out of warranty. I just have insurance if it gets stolen or I drop it in water. Or should I wait until they find a root method without triggering Samsung knots. I read about triangle away but like I said at this point I can careless if it gets trigger. What are you guys opinion?

Fyi...... @dgutierrez04 was the guy that pulled the OC1 ota update for me when no one else could due to the two part 5.0 update. He also took one for the team during testing of the OC1, Stock Rooted ROM so many of you enjoy today by updating his bootloader to OC1.
I assume he has no backup phone.
That said, it seems a lot of people have to use Kies... as Odin reports fails...
I did not root my I545 verizon so now I have lollipop oc1. My question is should I not take the next upgrade for lollipop or at this point does it make a difference as far as getting root?
Thoughts are more than welcome

I suggest is to wait and hope they can find a root method and try to avoid future updates as off right now. That's what I would suggest you doing as for me I will be doing the same.
