[QUESTION] Is it right time to Buy Redmi Note 3..? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

i general question about redmi note 3.. i planning to buy a smartphone in sub 15k range... there 2 winners LE 2, and Redmi note 3..
Le 2 doesnt have any android development, and its been months now... and Redmi note 3 is about 6 month Old.. should i wait for any other device or just go for redmi note 3..?

Go for it, no other phone in this price range has such excellent hardware and rom development and none will for a while.

xiaomi launches new note edition every 6 months... redmi note 4 has been launched in china, if it comes in india later this month, most probably it will come with Snapdragon 652, and i havent seen any android development in SD652 phone on xda, not even on Mi Max 128 gb version.. m scared if its comes with 652 then may be there will be full stop on android development of redmi franchise....

Don't worry. Redmi Note 4 will not come until Jan, 2017. If you can wait till that time, wait for it. Dude, it'll get development support as same as Note 3, if not greater. Most likely, it'll support SD652, you know, most SD phones get good development. About Le Eco, it didn't get development, because it isn't popular as much as Xiaomi devices. But be ready to spend 1000 Rs. more, if you want to go for RN4 SD variant.
Redmi Note 3 is pretty good device with large development. I'd suggest go for it. I'm planning to do the same.

I guess it's a good phone to buy now itself, provided there is decent availability.... only the 32g silver and gold versions are available...the dark grey version is no where to be seen. Even I am looking to buy one.

I had ordered the Dark Grey just 10 hrs ago on Snapdeal. It was in stock for one straight hour. You've to look frequently throughout the day. These phones (especially dark grey) get stock out quickly.
Suggestion: On whole week, Amazon makes Dark Grey RN3 availability on random days. But they make only "one left in stock".. When you see one in stock, just BUY it. No wait. No refresh on browser.
For Snapdeal, I'd seen them do the same on Saturday. Not sure about other days.
Hope it helps!

If you reside in North America, preferably in Canada. I can assure you my Qualcomm Snapdragon variant of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro works on both 3G and 4G LTE networks. And to be honest, I find Xiaomi devices a lot better than what I see in phone stores in Canada based on price range and quality. Too bad they don't sell here, I had to order all the way from Hong Kong to get my hands on one. Great buy if you ask me, no issues so far.

To determine what fingerprint sensor you have, open a file manager, go to / directory, go to /data folder, and see whether it has a folder named 'fpc' or 'goodix'. Of it has fpc, yours is a fpc sensor, or of it has goodix, you have goodix sensor.
See the attached photo for reference. I have fpc!

I think it's quite possible, thanks to the Vernee Apollo Lite that has almost identical hardware (SOC and camera) and an open source AOSP ROM. It should be possible to port that to the Redmi Note 4, and build CyanogenMod based on its source. If a Snapdragon Redmi Note 4 is released, some of the proprietary blobs can be merged if its source code is released.

To some extent, yes. But there are still Xiaomi specific drivers and source code that they either have to release or has to be patched together (usually happens if a device is popular). Considering how popular the Redmi Note 3 Pro is and how beautiful the Redmi Note 4 is, I think we just have to wait a little. Most developers that shop in that price range is still rather going to go for the Redmi Note 3 Pro though.
I had Redmi Note 3 Pro 32GB before (bought for $220 from an unofficial distributor, now it's $175), but it was stolen from me. Earlier this year Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 3 Pro officially in Indonesia. Unfortunately the Note 3 Pro has the 4G LTE disabled by Xiaomi if the phone detects an Indonesian SIM card inserted (it had to do with Indonesian regulations that required 40% of the material of a 4G LTE enabled phones to be sourced locally, else they won't be allowed to sell it here officially).
So when it's time to buy a new phone, I decided to go for the similarly priced Redmi Note 4 with 64GB of storage for only $195, to save me the hassle of unlocking, creating a modified boot.img, flashing TWRP, rooting, replacing the TeleService.apk and repeating the whole god-damned process every time there's a MIUI update. So, not everybody would go for the Redmi 3 Pro vs the Note 4.
Overall, I enjoy this new phone: the superior build quality, double-tap-to-wake function, and the faster fingerprint sensor. What would make this phone even better if there's an official CyanogenMod build for it. But I guess it will never happens. Oh well, I'll just buy a Mi5 or Mi Mix next year.
I wouldn't buy Xiaomi or Redmi, unless, there is a CM for the variant. Without CM, I personally think it is a piece of crap whatsoever. =P
MIUI is so much over-bloated. Looking forward to seeing one CM build. My colleague just bought one and is expecting to get it this afternoon as we speak.
Hopefully CM will be out some time in November~~~He was so impressed by my Redmi 3 pro's performance, lol

I just saw my colleague's RMN4 last night, quite impressive with the color, instantly caught my eyes. It is definitely a good deal. CM on it would make it even smoother & sweeter. I am thinking to get one also for myself when CM is out.

While MIUI is definitely an "acquired taste" I don't think it's that bad. There are a lot of features I would otherwise struggle to get working properly on an AOSP based ROM, and I'd still rather use it than almost any other mainstream OEM ROM. My mine gripe with it is its aggressive memory management, terrible task switcher, and disjointed settings menu. At least it's fluid and decent looking, and the built-in theming is one of the better implementations. I would say it actually adds lots of value to most of their customers and my friends whose Xiaomi phones I rooted prefer the EU MIUI ROM to CM.

Thanks for following up on that message of mine (glad to see it worked, good job getting it to boot). The Redmi Note 4s I ordered are yet to come (first package was lost). Hopefully, this would attract the attention of some of the developers to help you get a stable build for the device. However, I myself would be moving to the LeEco Le Max 2, as this is a Snapdragon device (an SD820 with 4GB DDR4 RAM and UFS2.0 storage and Sony camera) with its sources available for around the same price as the Redmi Note 4. ($220 vs $180).

I got myself Redmi Note 4 16GB for only 100$ but several days later I also got a Xiaomi Mi 5 32GB deal for 200$, so RMN4 now is my spare phone and I use it for my experiment porting rom and building kernel source (if Xiaomi really decide to release kernel source code for their Mediatek phone).
Back to CM13 porting, it's not hard to booting up to home screen, I just used CM13 rom from Vernee Apollo Lite, replaced kernel and some files in system/lib/hw, system/lib64/hw, then it's booted. The problems I've seen in ADB log is SELinux return too much permission denied errors. Will try to fix it when I have time in next week
@longnt2007 any updates on CM13 porting? It will be so cool if works Thanks for that!

Atm all Wifi, RILD, sound, touchscreen, leds... working except fingerprint, because FPC 1020 in RMN4 connected with kernel via Trustonic TEE driver while fingerprint chip in Apollo Lite is different (ETS310) and not use TEE driver, so it's impossible to mix TEE driver with non Mediatek Trustonic rom (AOSP, CM13, AICP...)
Will release a test version of CM13 or AICP based from Apollo Lite in this weekend but I don't know if this XDA forum allow to post CM rom download link without source (already released AOSP rom on a facebook group for testing)...

Which phone will you buy after this one?

Like the title says, which phone would you consider to replace this one if it were to break? Is there a phone out there that could be a worthy successor?
There are better phones of course.just not for the price.if my rn3 broke I would definitely buy another.i feel that for $180 the choices are very limited and xiaomi hit the mark.thats just my opinion tho.

And if you look that it is on top 3 custom rom devices... Then its very hard to say which will be next or rn3 again:laugh:

Maybe future redmi note phones...
I'm waiting for a mid-high end or flagship phone with 4000+ mah battery & vooc/dash charging.
Its weird reading users praising their rm3000 ($700+) devices for getting 5-6 hours sot per day while I can easily get 8-10 hours on this 'budget' device.
Oh yeah I want my next phone to have great custom rom support to like this phone.
I'm waiting for mi6 for the price to drop and I'm getting one.

Yeah, ram. That's what I'm after. I made a mistake picking RN3Pro with 2gb of ram.

Note 5 or Note 5 pro?

The only notable difference between the two devices seems to be the camera and processor. Camera isn't a concern for me cause I don't use it much but processor and developer support (read custom rom support) is very essential. So which one shall I buy?

If you can, you should just go directly for the 5 Pro, but stocks will be hard to come by for the coming months as it is kinda hot right now. The Note 5 does everything and isn't slow, but the 5 pro does it much better with the upgraded processor. Mostly the hardcore users would notice the performance difference from both. For day to day use, both do them quite well, as well as battery life.
Also. Even if you don't use the camera much, it will still provide better pictures for the times that you use them.
Custom Rom support would be good for this device as most Redmi users that look for an upgrade would buy this phone, chances are developers would join in too.
Overall, the 5 Pro is superior in some aspects, but the 5 Plus isn't something to scoff at either. It would depend on whether you think the upgrade is right for the price as both do quite well with their arsenal of specifications.

That's probably due to the fact that the Note 5 AKA 5 Plus has been out for a month longer before the Pro, but I'm pretty sure the Pro will catch up to the Rom supports.
Also, enjoy the 5 Pro. If only I knew they would release the 5 Pro, I would've waited, but sadly my z00a gave up on me so I had to buy the 5 Plus rather hastily.

No, I'm from PH actually. There are a lot of resellers locally and online, although ours here orders them from China directly through a supplier. It was pre installed with the fake global rom but Bootloader was unlocked so I was able to flash the EU rom.
You'd be lucky if you can buy it right now since it usually ends up out of stock. But maybe it was just in India.

Here in India we have flash sales every other week or so. Stocks last for 5-10 minutes. So in April I'll find the date and be ready at the specified time.

Most probably, since they have to install the Vendor rom which, AFAIK, would update itself automatically to the global version when it officially releases.
Well, that's good since it's an India first phone release, units would be high per restock there. Hope you get yours bud.

Any update on this? Is the K20 Pro officially released in India? Are we getting support now from the well-known Indian devs?

Too costly in India, it won't be as hot as was expected, almost 40% less sales most probably.
Price is similar to one plus 7 so not worth it.

Really!
Guess I start expecting too much intelligence on XDA.
One plus 7 and one plus 7 pro are different devices with different price point, is that too hard to understand?
@Funk Wizard
Have you changed camps from OnePlus to Redmi now? Never seen you so interested in some device other than OP flagships from past years.

OP7 starts at INR 33K for 6+128 configuration. K20 Pro costs INR 31K for 8+256 option. How exactly is that "similar"?
Also, why do you feel it's "too costly" if you are willing to pay significantly more for a OP7? Just because it has clean OOS?
Is there any info. on the LTE basebands on the Indian device? Is it the same as the Chinese hardware wise?
My question is if we can buy it from AliExpress and flash Indian ROM on it for Band 20 if they're the same hardware wise.

Looks the same as the Chinese, no band 20.

is it an official testing for Redmi as a tester or test on your own purchased unit? I'm just curious.

No, there is way better development scene in op7. Used op3t and still use it more often then Poco when I'm not gaming, it just feels better in hand.

I am using OP3 as my main phone til this day, so yes while the development scene helps, i feel MIUI is not bad itself minus the ads. I am still on OOS stock ROM, with a custom kernel only. I feel Android has reached to a point where custom ROMs won't make much sense expect for when the device has lapsed its original official software update window (2 years). I am still using OOS Oreo on OP3 and it works just fine.

Ask Me Anything about the OnePlus Nord

Hi XDA,
I've used the OnePlus Nord for nearly 3 weeks now and did a review of it for XDA: https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-nord-review/
If you have any questions about the device, ask them here and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability.
Really confused between this and other options like realme x3 ... Only the developer support is swaying me towards nord as x3 wont have as good developer support..
Nord has dual-frequency GPS, i.e. support for L5/E5 signals and bands that could give meter precision (compared to about 5m without).
How is the GPS quality?

So what do you have a European version or Indian and are you using it in the U.S. if so does mobile data work well, I have thought about importing one. Also I own the pixel 4 XL and I love and appreciate all your coverage on pixels and the Android developer previews and betas.

The Snapdragon 855+ in the Realme X3 SuperZoom has better CPU and GPU performance. The Realme X3 SuperZoom also offers better camera versatility with its telephoto lens and a better primary camera sensor. It also has a higher refresh rate display (albeit it's LCD and not OLED if that bothers you). However, you're right that long-term support of the Realme X3 SuperZoom is a lot iffier.

European version - using it with my T-Mobile SIM card in the U.S. I don't use mobile data much but everything "works." I can't tell you how well it actually works in big downtown areas or in every city - check the supported bands to see how well it'll work in your area.

One simple, two other questions
How broad is this phone, could you use it with onehand? If i grasp my current phone my thumb can't reach past the middle of the screen. I don't enjoy that.
How many googleapps are on this phone? I didn't like they use googlephone and messages instead of their own.
Then news said googlefeed is on the phone if you swipe left, can you turn this feature off or is it baked in oxygenos?
Is this phone for someone who does not use google a lot?
Last question; can you disable paralell apps feature and use your own app for it ? (Like island for sandboxing apps.)
ty so much for your time.

Yes, I can use the phone in one hand. However, OOS really needs to bring back its one-handed mode that appeared in an earlier OOS beta for the 7 series...that would help with reaching buttons on the top.
In addition to all the Google apps present on all GMS-certified phones, there's also the Google Phone app and Google Messages as the default dialer and messaging app.
Google Feed can be turned off in OnePlus Launcher settings. The Shelf is thankfully still accessible with a swipe down gesture (it's no longer available on the minus one screen to the left where Google Feed is, though).
Well, you don't have to use Google apps if you don't want to. You can change the default dialer and messaging apps and pretty much everything else.
For Parallel apps: You don't have to use it, so yes, you can use Island or Shelter or whatever other work profile/sandboxing app you want.

Nope, no green or purple tinting issues at low brightnesses and with black/gray colors showing on screen. My unit seems normal.

As mentioned above, no screen tinting issues. I've read the Reddit and OnePlus forum posts and do not see any green or purple tinting at low brightnesses.
Hi, can you share what are your temperatures with some generic light/use?
I'm noticing that just watching some youtube video/netflix will bring the battery to around 38C, cpu temp will follow at 37-39C.
Not enought to hurt by any means, but it's kinda unpleasant to feel.
hello any problem with notifications ? i am missing a lot, only appears when i unlock the phone. I try to disable battery smart optimization but nothing.

For me, the phone stayed very cool even during heavy gaming (Dolphin Emulator, Citra Emulator) and didn't throttle at all. So I would say temperatures haven't been an issue for me.

Yes, this is a problem with OxygenOS, unfortunately. Make sure you disable "sleep standby optimization" https://www.xda-developers.com/files/2020/07/OxygenOS-10.5-Sleep-Standby-Optimization-300x200.jpg and set each app you want to get notifications for to "don't optimize": https://www.xda-developers.com/files/2020/07/OxygenOS-10.5-Intelligent-Control-254x300.jpg
This won't guarantee a fix, but it may help.

The Nord seems to be priced just right (and it's from OnePlus, so it's popular already among XDA users) for it to gain traction. I think there'll be a decent selection of custom ROMs.

Speaking of that, I'm confused between k20 pro and Nord.
Considering, K20 pro is set to get official Lineage soon, development is good and at the same time every piece of hardware on it is better or at least on par while costing less about 6k in the upcoming sale.
What would you prefer personally for a person who uses a device for about 5 years ? For now, nord doesn't seem promising in terms of dev support as there isn't any dev seeding program from oneplus for this device and we already saw what happened with almost similarly priced 7/7T without that program. I guess barely any recognized developer would get the nord out of his pocket for that price unless I'm wrong. What's your suggestion and take on it ?

Is OnePlus Nord supporting full Camera2API ?
Is there a possibility to use call recorder on the OnePlus Nord? I have been looking for days now and could not find it. I know the nord has the google dialer, is there a possibility to use the OnePlus dialer with joneplus app?

OnePlus does have a dev seeding program they just don't publicize it. The Redmi K20 Pro is a great phone and I can't recommend against it. It already has proven it will have a thriving developer community. However, its official support won't last as long as the new Nord, so make of that what you will.

Google Phone app does support call recording but not in all regions and not enabled on all device models. I live in the U.S. where it's not enabled, but I can't tell you about Europe or India.
