Need help installing CM 13 on Xperia Z4 tablet wifi - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bootloader is unlocked
I try to follow this, but, it does not work for me. The screen is black and device won't boot.
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_pollux_windy

That isn't for the Z4 Tablet. pollux_windy is Z Tablet, as stated on that page. You'll need a build for karin_windy.
Look around in the Z4 Tablet Android Development subforum, there's a CM13 build and some more

I can only regurgitate what's written in the Z4T's CM13 topic. I'm running rooted stock myself.

Sorry, but would you mind providing me with the link to that thread? I have the absolute worst time navigating this website/forums. Thanks. What procedure did you use to root only please?

I unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP, AndroPlusKernel and SuperSU.
From the CM13 thread:
- Unlock your bootloader (you can save your TA partition before)
- Update your firmware to the last Marshmallow version (needed to update the bootloader, kernel will not boot if you use the Lollipop bootloader)
- Install AndroPlus kernel and TWRP
- Make a backup
- Push the rom’s zip to the SD card (optionnaly with gapps)
- Wipe System, Data, Cache, Dalvik cache
- Install the rom (and gapps if you want)
- Reboot

So TWRP is installed and when I boot into TWRP, the screen is not responding to touch. It says, "Unmodified System Partition". Swipe to unlock", but the screen will not respond to any touch. I hate this ****. Also, now the tablet only boots into TWRP.

You're on latest official Sony firmware? Anyway, I had and still have the same issue on my tablet with the latest Sony firmware. I worked around the issue using a USB-OTG cable with a USB mouse attached. Crazy I know, but it works.
Good luck.

LOL, why does this have to be so difficult? I installed SGP712_32.2.A.0.253_R4C_Latin America Generic_1295-9724.

I guess this is one of the more challenging devices to tinker with due to the small developer and user base.
But once things are up and running it's one fantastic device, still. You're good to go with that firmware. Make sure you have AndroPlus's latest TWRP (TWRP-3.0.2-0-20160604.img) and you'll be good to go.

So now I'm rooted via twrp, cm13 is installed. I can't boot into twrp after flashing cm13 however. Do I need to reflash twrp? What about the custom kernel? Thanks.

I don't know from here on. Ask in the CM13 thread linked earlier.

Thanks, I finally figured out what I was doing incorrectly. I'm rooted and running CM13.

If you just reflash the stock system image that would erase any trace of root. You wouldn't lose any data. You'll only be able to flash the root zip/kernel if you've already unlocked your bootloader. If you've not done that you'll have to do it first and the process of unlocking will wipe the device.

Um? Don't think we're quite there yet?

Quote from Chainfire.
Acquiring root without modifying the boot images is still under investigation. Please note that the current method will not be officially supported. Future roots may require a clean system: we are at a very early stage of root for 6.0, methods used are subject to change.

I'd download the factory image and update to the latest build. you can edit the "flash-all.bat" so that it doesn't wipe your phone. Change the command
"fastboot -w update" to
"fastboot update"
to preserve your data.
I have re-opened this thread, because the linked thread isn't the same - this isn't a duplicate.

Just boot loops for me , even with Chainfire's boot.img. Is it necessary to do the steps one right after another?
Neat! Glad it is all happening quickly. I think I want to keep encryption, so I will probably wait to root and install TWRP until wiping data to remove encryption is no longer necessary.
Can someone please confirm if the damn fingerprint sensor still works after rooting?

It should be the same routine for the OPX as all of those devices then.
Just to be sure, you're doing it this way (step 5)?
Make sure that your bootloader is unlocked first, or it won't flash (step 2).
Also, make sure that when you use the command "fastboot flash recovery xxx.img" that "xxx.img" is identical to the name of the img file you have placed in your sdk tools folder.

Should be...key word. Guys I've tried it over and over again. All different ways to boot recovery after...different places downloading the file...different way installing (fastboot and flashify).
Only weird thing is that "fastboot oem device-info"
Says tampered is false
Unlocked is true
Does just unlocking bootloader usually trip the tampered flag?
So you're sure that you've enabled OEM unlocking in the developer options??

yes of course...Ive been through the process with the op2.
all drivers installed correctly, got rsa key, unlocked bootloader...one thing is that the confirmation bootloader unlocking screen was in chinese, but I chose the top option to confirm.
Same Issue
I'm having the exact same problem and would love to know a fix as well. My device is also unlocked by the tamper flag was not set off. I'm having the same problem of not being able to load TWRP onto the phone as well.
im guessing maybe because there isnt an official twrp for this phone.
There is only a custom and I know the internals are the same, but I think there are some kind of differences from phone to phone from region to region.

Hello,
I believe there is an official twrp. I did a search and found that you were already involved in that thread by @CafeKampuchia using the TWRP (onyx version) by @h2064
That was the initial recovery I had before I flash to the f2fs version by @eng.stk.

Rooting guide

Is anyone willing to put together easy to follow rooting guide for Xpreria Z4 Tablet?
I am a new owner of said tablet and so far I am little lost still.
So far I have figured out that I need to unlock bootloader trough Sony developer website and then flash AndroPlusKernel v21 +, TWRP, SuperUser...
My tablet is currently running Android 5.0.2 (Build 280.A.8.260) and I am itching to upgrade to Marshmallow. Can I flash AndroPlusKernel once I upgrade to Marshmallow or do it now? I own Xpreria Z3 phone and rooting needs to be done on lower Android versions because otherwise one needs to downgrade first to root and then flash modified ROM.

Hi,
Unlocking bootloader causes a factory reset. So you lose the update to MM (I'm not sure after all
After that see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-...ooting-attempt-using-androplus-t3331928/page2

I suggest
doing an OTA update to MM while on stock (this is the easiest update path)
make sure MyXperia is OFF at all times
unlock bootloader through Sony (tablet will be wiped)
flash AndroPlus Kernel (v20+)
flash TWRP (see AndroPlus Kernel topic)
flash SuperSU
make absolutely sure MyXperia is OFF at all times
Optional: donate a bit to AndroPlus and Chainfire, or buy some of their apps / Pro licenses, to thank them for their hard work

I want to do exactly the same and have some questions.
Is app "MyXperia" installed in MM ? I'm asking because I cant find it any more.
Is it possible and safe completely uninstall "MyXperia" it after root MM ?
Any advices ?

Once you flash recovery, restart your tablet and press volume down button when the white screen with SONY Xperia is on and "yellowish/greenish" LED lights up. The LED will turn orange and tablet will enter recovery. While in recovery, flash SuperSU that you have previously downloaded and saved on your tablet.

Nougat could introduce more issues (e.g. Xposed doesn't work with Nougat as of today... Magisk & SuperSU... who knows?) but in theory steps should be the same...
More: this is unknown to most (and I don't have a clear explanation for it... only some hypothesis...) but even TWRP could have issues...
On another phone I've found (only one time to be honest... ) that an updated firmware required an updated TWRP to have it working (older one simply doesn't booted anymore even if reflashed...)

Probably it could be possible to restore all as stock from my backups, but I will surely update (when I'll decide to...) using fastload or TWRP (depending of image formats...) as you said...

afaik, they're all rootable except the verizon variant...
hotspot...? if you mean, using your data network as a wifi hotspot - unless there's some kind of issue hosting a wifi network while rooted, this device does let you host.

If you buy the phone directly from Motorola/Lenovo, you can put a Verison SIM in and then you can also unlock the bootloader. Takes longer but if you really want to unlock it, this would be the only way I know.

I installed TWRP 3.1.1.0 as specified. However, it gets stocked on the Teamwin blue screen and can't do anything from there than reboot.
Any idea how to solve this problem. Thanks a lot

Great. You save me a lot of time. It works.
Cheers
Sorry guys, I'm thinking about buying this phone with a carrier, so I will have 30 months of warranty covering everything. If I unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery I will lose it. Does anyone know how to find the factory image or backup the stock system (recovery and everything) to restore it to stock in case of problems? Thanks in advance
I have the XT1710-10 Dual SIM variant of the Moto Z2 Play, what should i do to succesfully root the phone. Can somebody guide me in detail ?
and i am not clear about this 32 bit and 64 bit twrp

I thought the TWRP version you linked is not working properly. Are you saying that it works, now?

Which way? What error?... You must go to Motorola's unlock bootloader page (@pizza_pablo kindly shared the link for you already) and >precisely< follow instructions. You can also search for "unlock bootloader Motorola" here or in YouTube. There's aplenty of video tutorials, plus every single Moto device since Moto G requires the very same procedure, so you can follow any. Good luck and don't cry; you'll notice that unlocking is the easiest part.
One more thing: I strongly suggest you to research as much as you can about the subject >first< (it clearly looks like the first time for you) especially on Moto Z2 Play rooting and very especially on Oreo rooting. There's a bit of confusion there.

So, can we use 64 bit TWRP on 32 bit OS?

Yerah...Verizon phones are always locked down, unless you have a Pixel. That's precisely why I dropped them like a bad habit. Well, that AND the fact that they are the most expensive cell provider out there.
