Replacement phone model alternatives? - AT&T Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

What model are going to trade for with your recall replacement and what is compatible in your opinion?
I am not thrilled about the glass with this phone (small crack near volume rocker)and many reports in the wild about scratches this early into release. The touch, especially the buttons feel a little less responsive than my not 5 and i swear my internet lags, especially when loading pages (but not positive on that one).
I am not one to complain about performance when each new model is first released. I have been in the game for years and years and think these few complaints with the note 7 may have leaning to pick another phone for my recall replacemt. I do like the note 7 though so tough decision.
Too bad more new phones were released in this unfortunate time

A recall for about 1 out of half a million batteries? That's still better odds than a few grains of peanut in your ice cream (which can kill some people). A new Note 7. With the odds being 1 out of half a million, the odds that the second one is also defective is probably too great to calculate on a 64 bit computer.

If rumors are correct, the Nexus Google Sailfish and Marlin phones are supposed to be released this month. The Marlin apparently has a 5.5" QHD AMOLED screen. Other rumored specs seem similar to the Note 7.

lmao you wanna go with LG? the company that consistently have quality control issues about GPS not working and overheating issues? Even though they got thousands of cases and refuse to do anything about it? Compared to Samsung where 35 devices have exploded or caught on fire and suspects about a possible 400k affected devices and they doing a full blown 2.5mill recall? ha you're funny and so is loyalty.
I'm a note 7 user and i haven't owned a Samsung device since 2010 which was my first smartphone and one of my best phones ever and since then i've moved onto Oneplus, Nexus etc so i'm not even remotely close to a Sammy fanboy but i'll tell ya what, i've only owned one LG device since back in 2012/2013 i think and it had such crappy GPS performance, literally every single device "Optimsu F7" and LG blew it over like it was nothing and said its not a problem. Now its happening to their LG G5 plus overheating issues. The day that LG told me and thousands of other customers who paid for the F7 that the GPS is functional and nothing is wrong is the day i vowed to never buy another LG device. loyalty is a funny thing and right now Samsung has my objective loyalty of how they're handling this situation.

They only did it because they didn't want to get sued. The voluntary recall was the loop hole for them.

I'll keep my note 7 until they have replacement note 7 in. Mine doesnt get hot from charging or using it. I'll watch it but i agree 35 cases out of how many phones? That's pretty good odds and nothing's flawless.

My wife and I like our note 7's so much we refuse to trade them for anything except the same device.. So we'll wait until they can do that.

Actually I have owned the g3, g4 and v10. They all perforned well, were snappy and i didn't have any of those issues (I thought the g3 was lovely). But I always returned to Samsung because the screens were better for me.

I dpnt trust any carrier that says they will let you use a loaner phone until the corrected version is released. So easy for them to say well thats your phone. You traded your note 7 for that Phone. So enjoy it.

I'm straight swapping my existing (non defective) Note 7 for the NIB unit Samsung is going to hand over; whenever they may arrive that is.
.
As a long time (since the 2) Note series user, I may be a little biased when I say -
There is no good reason to move away from this generation of the Note.
While I do agree there currently is a noticeable performance lag when certain functions/tasks are carried out; app switching and the recents key being the most prevalent for me. Being software related, it's only a matter of time before any and all performance issues are resolved. Besides, these things are to be expected when adopting the latest and greatest.
Personally, I'm not putting any stock in the devices' (supposed) susceptibility to scratching. To be fair - I am acutely mindful of the how, what, and where my phone is being placed. As such, the device is never in a position to suffer a scratch.
All petty complaints aside, this iteration of the Note is still a vast improvement over the 5.
The way I see it is if you enjoy the device and make use of all that is has to offer - What's the point in abandoning the device for a lesser one? Especially over some silly recall, that probably could have been avoided had these people used the proper, quality, cables to charge the device in the first place.
I'm curious to know what other device(s) you're considering in it's place?

I was seriously looking into the v20. It's not as nice looking but the phone will most likely be rooted, good cameras, audio, interchangeable battery, IR blaster, can actually use a tempered glass screen protector, hopefully not as much lag as the note 7. Anyone else considering it??

[Q] Will Note's success mean a new Streak?

Will Dell respond with a newer, better, Streak, now that they see there is a market for these hybrid phone/tablets? Should I just jump on the Note when it finally becomes available or wait to see what Dell will do? I'm due for an upgrade in March so I guess I'll wait until then...
Yeah you can wait till March but there is very less possibility that Dell may come out with something comparable to Note in near future.

It would be sad to see Dell following Samsung...
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I'd very much like to see dell release another phoneblet with top of the line specs, sadly I'm highly skeptical about it.
Given how Android didn't sell itself according to the lack of marketing Dell provided, I wouldn't expect to see another Streak unless it ran Windows Phone 7. The irony here is that Windows Phone 7 has the smallest market share of any mobile OS.
Who knows what dell is going to do, the only 'new' device is the Streak pro and it's still not really available in china yet and not out in japan.
The S5 launched outside europe half a year later, it's not impossible they'll launch the SPro elsewhere eventually, besides that they canceled more WP7 phones then they did android phones. But it's a mid-upper end 4.3" and not a 5.x" device.
Currently there's no known devices on their roadmap, besides the weak promise of new tabs or something during CES. A new roadmap for 2012 hasnt leaked/been made available yet, everything on the 2011 one is either out or canceled.
2011 road map to date:
2 canceled WP7 devices
1 canceled android phone,
2 canceled android tabs (the 'opus one' is in the tab category)
1 Pending update to the s10 (ICS and 'handwriting support'(?) )
It wont really matter how good a device dell puts out, if they dont change their advertising strat. The software on their devices have improved dramatically post-S5, but it means jack if they half-ass their launches.
If they have any plans at all, they're doing a pretty good job keeping us in the dark.
If DELL is serious making an impact in the market, they should ask Samsung or HTC to make a phone for them. At least, we would have a quality device and not a crap one like the Streak.

I'll be totally honest with you, I prefer the quality and finish on my streak far more than most of the samsung line they feel too plasticy and flimsy IMHO, plus back when s5 was announced it was pretty much top of the line sans for 1.6. I think dell should just get it together with making the drivers open source thus sparking more interest and a bigger development community for the device, and of course spend way more on marketing than with the s5.
It's not at all about who makes it, it's about the fact noone knows they exist.
I cant speak of every other market, but in the US only the s5 had any advertising. Of which it was 1 month or so of commercials. The S7 and V didnt get any at all, not surprisingly the S5 outsold the S7, V, VPro combined (no data to back this up, just by pure post count on xda)
The fact the Note doesnt even need this has a lot to do with it's specs, it's about the most powerful device it's size currently, the S5 was nearly the last major S1 snapdragon released. Samsung's been doing pretty well with the galaxy family, it's momentum is the equivilent of a year or so of good advertising if it were the S5.
The S5 wasnt supported by any carrier in the US, only sold quietly by best buy. The GN is going to be available with at&t and verizon(?), though internally those varients are pretty much entirely different devices.
If it wasnt for the software, I really could see myself using the S5 till early 2013 (which is like 800 years in phone years) That's the biggest difference between samsung and dell, samsung is a lot more dev friendly.
EVEN if dell launched the 'opus one' yesterday it wouldnt compete with the note, they're in seperate price brackets. It would be like comparing the kindle fire with the S7, even though the S7 is older it's still faster. If you went by MSRP you could buy 2 S7's or 3 KFs for the same amount of money. Just like not all 4.0"/etc phones are equal.
The Streak is a fine device, and has kept me happy probably longer than any other phone. Will probably look into the Note when released on AT&T, but just for the hardware and later software upgrade. The streak still does everything I actually need.
It's the first phone that I could actually keep through a 2 year contact, if I wasn't such a nerd...

INSURE THAT!
I concur with the positive views of the S5 voiced here. My S5 got water damaged over the weekend and is irretrievably bricked. Of the 20 or so mobile devices I have owned over the last decade this was the one I have had the longest and would have quite happily continued with it ad infinitum.
My dissapointment is compounded as the search for another 5 inch device only reveals The Note.
Dell seem to be steering away from the 'phablet' arena, not surprisingly given it's specialist nature and lack of worldwide sales. As this thread began, one can only hope that significant sales of the Note don't go unnoticed by Dell.
With the Note as yet largely unavalable with UK carriers, I am as deviceless, miserable and lost as I have been at any time in the last decade.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
My new Streak 5 just arrived. I had to part with £170 for it (cheaper in the long run than an insurance claim on my water damaged one) but it's pristine. I never want to be without one again.
Well, I will miss my Streak when the ebay auction ends, but I must say I'm enjoying my Note's 4g speed for internet browsing. It also seems a bit faster when switching between apps and such. I did like the fact that the Streak had a metal chassis, and that gave it a more solid feel than the Note has, but the Note's lightness is also nice. I won't miss the Streak's connection port, and find the micro-usb port on the Note far more convenient to use.

I don't think the streak ever had a metal chasis, only the battery cover is metal.
The chassis might be aniondized plastic or something, the inner surface is plastic I believe but the outer side is much more durable then simple plastic. Regardless, that fact is why I like the S5 as it is and feels rather scratch resistant.

i want all of your opinions on whether or not trade my iphone 4. unloackable for the galaxy NOTE.. can you tell me how long does the battery last on your phone and if it is worth to trade it
thanks
I used to carry both an iphone and an Android phone. After getting the note, I sold my iphone and use android full time.
the battery life is fine. if you are a heavy user, carry a spare battery.
I just switched from an iPhone 4 to the Note about 2 weeks ago. I have absolutely no regrets switching. I have always had an iPhone from the first one in 2007 up until 2 weeks ago and never saw myself switching because of how the build quality of apple and smoothness of iOS was. When I used a note for the first time it blew me away the progress that android has made over the years. While I still don't think the overall build quality of this phone is iPhone status everything else is better. As far as battery goes, unless you plan on trying to go multiple days without charging then it is a non issue. It gets through a day just fine. I will say the battery life does drop faster than my iPhones did but there's really no difference to me as the note gets me through the day with plenty to spare and I charge it every night anyway. Once you get a Note you'll wonder why you used such a small screen before.
I know the screen is really small on iphone .. I used the htc titan before .. N i am thinking of trading it . For a Note but im still in doubt .. Since i am with tmobile . The internet might be the same unless i put the hack to get 4G ..
Is the camera good on the note ?

the camera is brilliant.....great pics. i take pictures and can zoom in on the smallest details of that pic and see it clearly.
The battery life won't be quite as good add your iPhone, but it will still last you through a full day. I can pull about 16 hours total with 4 hours of screen time on a charge, but I try not to look at my phone for 25% of the day anyways. The screen will make you laugh at your iPhone. The iPhone has slightly higher pixel density, but once you go Super AMOLED HD, you won't go back. The SPen also brings more usefulness than you would think. Also, with Android, even without rooting and ROMing, you can still use rings of different kings of launchers, change how your icons look, use different keyboards, and perhaps the oldest argument, view flash content.
Don't get me wrong, I like the design of iPhones, minus the small screen, and their software does run smoothly, but after 3 Android phones there is no way I could go back. IPhones are just too limited for my tastes. With my 3g, I felt like I had a nice phone that could play some cool games. With my Note, I feel like I'm carrying with a tiny computer with limitless tools at my disposal. I also like when other people pick up my phone and have no clue how to use it, but it is still way more streamlined for my own personal use than an iPhone would be.
With Android you decide how you use your phone, not Apple.

I have ALWAYS blackballed Apple for the proprietary BS... I had to bend once when my wife brought home an ipod she found. I was pretty upset that I had to deflower my xpsl702x with itunes. I am ashamed of myself for allowing this to happen, but I would have been more ashamed of myself for not following my wifes requests.
Traded my iPhone 4 for a Note and I love it
I was a die hard apple zombie.. I once believed like all others that apple would cure world hunger. I traded my iphone 4 for a Motorola artrix then a international galaxy s2 then a skyrocket and now a galaxy note.. I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW THE RAIN IS GONE..
you will love the note..

There are a lot of Note users that came from the iPhone. I havent seen any regrets so far. I too came from the iPhone 4 to the Original GS2 then skyrocket...then the Note. It just got better everytime. Some iPhone users are way too stubborn to switch but I rather have choices than to "accept" what they give me.

I like the camera on this phone more than the one on my old ip4. I can't speak for the 4s, but the note has a better camera than ip4.

ii will trade it but I'm afraid the size of the screen will b too much ...

i chickened out on getting the note when i saw the size in person..im a iphone user 4 years and omg the iphone is so small i cant go back to it too small..youll get use to the size of the note..not really pocket friendly but depends on person to person..as for battery give it time to cycle and it will improve..but battery life depends on settings/use/rooted ect.. i love my note but sadly i have another pixel issuse so this one is going back to hopeful get another one with no pixel problems.. only thing i dont like is the camera speed capture its slow for me..battery could have been a 3000mah to give it a bit extra use..sometimes it lags depends how much ram your using and crash some apps could be bugs.. im stock GB..waiting for ICS real one..dont want to install root stuff right now
i switched from iphone to and i love my note will never go back to apple. my batt life is equal to my iphone so no complaints

Considering Upgrading...

AT&T has two phones (maybe three) I am interested in. One of them is the Optimus G.
In reviews on Cnet it mentioned the not-so-great camera and short battery life.
My Infuse 4G doesn't last more than 7 hours of mostly audio playback (30-35%) when it was new. I am going to keep this phone now that its unlocked (got the code from AT&T) and my friend is using my original G1, which is also unlocked.
Has the battery life improved with any updates and if not what is your preferred battery app?
Also has the camera improved with updates or is there a rom with improvements?
I do plan on doing some video and having another HD camera will give me lots of options.
I wanted a Note, but I can't afford to pay more than $100 for a phone and have it threaten my other activities.
Thanks

Battery life is great with jelly bean, easily lasts me 12-16hrs on a full charge, camera is great too.
Trust me for the price it can't be beat.
Quad core, 2gb ram, and it's a high quality made device, it's solid, using glass and other materials, i got rid of my note 2 and went to this, I'm beyond impressed. Do the price ab the bang for your buck you get, it can't be beat

I'm sure you can, hell I got my note 2 back in early March for 199 and they had the og for 49 then.
So you should have no issues, check amazon wireless, best buy and others, you might be able to get it for less then 50,
About reviews, also remember these phones launched with ics, which is also why I didn't get it from att and opted for the note 2, ics at launch was a big let down ab one of the reasons people have a sour opinion about LG, i did as well, along with there failure to update devices and support then I almost passed on this optimus g, but paid 160 on Craigslist for it and couldn't pass it up, especially once I found out the jelly bean update was available
When it launched I was with sprint ab played with it in store ab thought, wow this is a really fast device

Thanks

I had a infuse and I can tell you from having that phone and the optimus g it's like night and day. The optimus g is the best phone out right now for the money in my opinion. The battery life is phenomenal. You would not be disappointed at all.

The best camera I've ever owned was the s3, the lg takes some great pictures but it takes some horrible pictures also. The s2 had a great camera also. Im assuming the s4 has a better one. The battery life on the phone is great...... But for how long. Maybe after a year of use it will get ruined and you won't be able to replace it. The S4 would be my pick since it looks like you keep your phones for a while. I got this phone because i replace my phones every 6 months .... Great phone but not sure it will last you 2 year with great battery

I'd pass on the s4, besides he says he can't spend more than 100 on a phone, so that removes it from the availability list.
Hearing lots of issues with the s4 ,over heating, sluggishness, etc.
I'd wait until the kinks were worked out.
And trust me after handling the Optimus g, my note 2 feels cheap, it creeks, the plastic is cheap, the Optimus g is very well made and solid.

Lgog is awesome. Only things I do not like are it's not durable, and the camera takes garbage photos in low light. It's fine in direct sunlight, not so much anywhere else.

Thanks foe the input. Radio Shack has the G for $49, I will handle the phone and see how it feels. The other phones are.
Atrix for use with the laptop dock when I travel and don't need the power of my quad core laptop.
Nokia Lumia 920 or HTC Windows 8x
Main reason for the Windows phones is for the Home Server app. I would love to be able to access the files and upload to my server, I use Windows Home Server 2011.
I like the G because its a powerful phone and the screen is bigger. I don't mind reading on my Infuse and I like the Note(s) because they are a nice compromise over a tablet.
The G is not on the bleeding edge and somewhat disappointing reviews have lead to discount pricing. I got the Infuse for $60 @ Best Buy in mid 2010.
I keep the hardware because it can still be used and its more functional a regular point-n-shoot camera. I plan on goinh lots of video and selling my unused stuff on CL, Ebay and Amazon with the apps available.
I am keeping the price down because I like to travel and don't wanna work any harder than I do. No need to be on the bleeding edge for most things.
Thanks

I have dropped my Infuse only once and it chipped top left edge of the case.
Screen has not one scratch on it.
I tend not to drop my electronics, so durability is not that much of a concern. I also take pictures in the day 98% of the time or with good indoor lighting.
Then hunt for LGOG on sale for $50 on upgrade or so.
Battery:
Seems excellent to me. I have been using it to play my stored music on average from 8-8:30AM until around 6:00 PM, taking several calls throughout the day (average 3-4) and some light internet exploring and I'll see the battery meter running around 65-70% at at the end of my day. It might go down to maybe 60-65% if I run Pandora for about an hour in between (which is usually during my lunch break when I need my dose of AC/DC-like music).
Camera:
Don't really use it much but I do believe that it has improved since I upgraded to JB. I'll need to play around with it a bit more but there is an improvement over when the phone was ICS. Unless you are a really avid photo taker (in which case you'll want a dedicated camera) it will get the job done for those candidly unexpected shots. After all, it's a phone with a camera built into it... not the other way around. My test was doing some before and after shots on my vehicle as I cleaned the paint, polished it and then waxed it up. Under ICS my still shots were somewhat blurry. With JB I can now get shots with which I can compare now. Unfortunately, I deleted these test shots so I'll have to ask you to just take my word on this.

What's your reason for getting this beast that is XZU?

I thought it would be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts since the Z Ultra is more of a niche device.
For me, it's mainly because of the screen size as I wanted something more of a small tablet. I was deciding between this and Nexus 7 FHD LTE but ultimately went with the Z Ultra. Expandable memory was a huge factor in this. Plus I want to try out Sony again. I like them.
So what's your reason?

Had a Nexus 7 2012 and a htc sensation, my sensation died and started to feel annoying by always have to carrying both phone and tab. Started to look for a phablet and found the XZU, meanwhile I saw the specs of the new n7 and got really disappointed. The XZU is the ultimate phablet, no real competitors yet (galaxy mega is too far behind). Sony really worked on the build quality, and this is a real plus, plastic devices can't be call a high-end devices.

Well, I wanted to get the biggest device out there because my fingers are quite fat. I'm not saying that I'm fat but my hands are ..well ..kind of wide and thick. 4,7 inches is just to small for my hands.
I am forever a crackberry user after having the 9900 before my One X and the Bold series is hands down the best devices for typing on. But they are small, and BB phones are..just very boring.
Why I chose SONY and to continue with android is because the user friendly unlocking process of the bootloader just like HTC without using some exploit or bug. And I got a bit too comfortable with the idiot safe and too stable HTC devices and roms. I had the Desire PVT4, One X endeavour and now my dad got the silver HTC One which I'm in charge of flashing new roms and updates on so naah, I wanted to try something new and exciting with premium built quality! :fingers-crossed:
Hello, I will order my XZU in a few days. I already got a 6,44" Smartphone and im happy with its size, its perfectly fits in my jeans pocket and in my hands so i wouldn't have any problems with the size of the XZU. It is waterproof, looks pretty good and it have the snap800 thats why i decided to order it.
The camera isn't a problem in my eyes, when i want to take high quality pictures then i dont use a smartphone.
I had the Galaxy Note, and it was time to move on, so i was looking for something with a big screen. I first wanted the Xperia Z, since i really like Sony's Omni Balance design, but the screen just ruined the whole thing for me, so i checked the HTC One out, but the screen is too small. I had no idea after that, so i waited and suddenly Sony announced the Ultra, and i checked out their ad, and i started laughing since it's so huge. I dismissed it on the spot and continued with my day. A couple of days later i though about it again and i checked some more videos of it, and i suddenly said to myself, "i must have it". And that pretty much it.
Why didn't i go with the Note 3? I've had a Note for almost two years, and i wanted to leave Samsung. They are stuck IMO, and the only thing they keep pushing out now are big or small versions of an existing product, and they are still shoving crap into TouchWiz. No thanks.

Not to mention ATT looks like they locked the bootloader on Note 3. Not sure if Tmo did the same, but it looks like they share the ATT LTE bands. I still felt that the C6806 with LTE on ATT and larger screen is better than any other device.
I come from the Note 2 and have been maintaining TWRP on the Note1 ATT and all Note 2 devices. I want to see if I can use motochopper on the C6806 since I don't trust vroot as much.
I just really wanted a small fast tablet with FHD, went round them all and finally the XZU emerged; some only dual core, some low res, some no expandable storage. Albeit the XZU is designed to be primarily a phone first, as a tablet it also excels at getting the job done. I travel internationally for work purpose, often to destinations way off the grid such as Borneo, so space is always an absolute premium.
Of course the display, I have never owned a mobile device that literally people comment on the quality of the image reproduction, especially films. Maybe I lucked out, equally I have not seen better on a mobile.
My only concern is 16Gb, bigger aps, ever larger data 32Gb should be the default on premium products. As the Galaxy Note 3 now comes with 32Gb as default it`s simply a matter of time before others follow suit, my only concern is the XZU is such a niche product it may not sustain...

Right! My Note feels like something from Toys R Us now. When you buy an Ultra, you'll get what you pay for; quality build. When you buy a Samsung, you get a plastic duck with a lot of gestures.

Yes, they're really good at hardware specs, but not the hardware itself and the software. Plastic and TouchWiz doesn't scream "i paid top dollar for this". When i buy a Porsche i expect the best interior, exterior and performance. Samsung is good at performace. They are the Corvette of the mobile world, awesome performance but ****ty build quality (Corvettes are 101% plastic). Sony is the Aston Martin. Stylish, really fast (and expensive).
Not saying that Sony is perfect, because they're not, but they're the closest i'll get to high performace, openess and build quality in one device.

I played a bit with a Note 8 at a Samsung Centre

So... I played a bit with a Note 8 at a Samsung Centre and compared it to the S8 and my current Note4. Here is what I found out:
The interface was extremely fluid on the S8. On the Note, not so much. I wonder if that's due to a possible preliminary software version, but it didn't look good. Small stuttering all over the place.
If you look at the (magnficent) screen, you'll see that the bottom part (with the nav buttons) is actually not used by apps, which is only natural. However, that means that the screen is only marginally larger than that of my Note 4.
The device has a solid, very pleasant feel. It's also a fingerprint magnet. Especially the black version. On the golden version it was much less visible. A case could take care of that, but then I hate cases.
I didn't get a chance to check out sound and camera quality, but from what I read the camera should the best on any smartphone. As for the loudspeaker, I don't have big expectations. After all, how good can a very small loudspeaker be?
I believe I'll wait for the reviews to decide, although, knowing me, I'll wait for about 5 minutes.
I am very interested to hear similar experiences, so if you got a chance to play with the Note 8, please drop a line.
Now, if I could only explain to the wife why I need a 1,000 EUR smartphone
I played with one at best buy this morning. Size wise it didn't feel radically bigger than my note 5.
Seemed very snappy and fast, only thing I didn't like was the lack of physical home button and capacitive buttons, but I'm sure I can get used to that. Just used to tapping the back button.
All in all seems like a hell of a device, glad I ordered one and can't wait to get it!

Do you think if you did not have to return your Note 7 that you would have bought the s8+ ? i can't help but think the s8 did so well because there was a lack of Note presence, Personally i caved in a few months before the s8 was released and bought an S7 Edge. But i definitely would of purchased a Note 7 instead if it was possible...
I tried this at CPW - it wasn't connected to wifi but was in demo mode. It was a dog and stuttered really badly. I appreciate this may be an early FW release but really in demo mode you'd expect high performance to stop this .

Same thing happen with the note 7 peview. The store demos lag a bit abd show a ton of scratches.
But when i got mines in hand it was great.
Then the s8+ didnt use the whole screen out the box. But after adjusting some settings it can hide the bav and use the whole screen.
So i know the sane will be true here.
I got the phone perorder because i love the note line. And miss the note 7. I dont think the phone will be worlds apart from the s8+ (which i currently have), but i think its still a nice upgrade and i get my spen back.
Speaking of that i wonder if the note 7 spen will work. I got about 4 of them lol..
I did have a solid hour or so with the device at Samsung 837 building while I was in NY. I had the chance to get attend the unpacked event. I talked to a few rep's that were there. They said those devices on display are pre-production units and will not get updates. They will be pulled when when productions units ship. So any lag you felt is do to pre-production software. The hardware will be the same. The camera is great. I got to test the live focus and other things. Lot's of ppl saying say this device is a S8+ with an S-pen, which it's not. There is some good reviews out there already to help you decide. I knew I was going to get it even before I saw it. I miss the note series and only reason I am on the S8+ now is because I HAD to turn my Note 7 in.

That may be the case (although you can buy the Snapdragon version here as well). However, there was a benchmark quoted on this forum whose result was that the two processors have similar performance.
