Naked feels so good! - Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Because of the recall I pulled off my screen protector and after using glass screen protectors for the last 3 years all I can is is duyammm duyammm duyammm this feels good. I guess it's the olephobic coating but this feels so much better than any tempered glass protector by a huge margin.
Anyone else notice how "soft" this screen feels?

Pfft! Raw is always the best. It's the natural way.

Oh dear, this thread isn't going to end well.

Come on guy's a bit of fun is fine but keep it clean, we have children who use xda so be careful please

I also removed the Ghost Armor I had on the front and rear of my Note 7. The screen feels better than I remembered before the film was applied. The replacement phone might only get the rear film if any at all.

I've never liked the feel of screen protectors (either glass or film). I've also been lucky (or careful?) and not had a phone all scratched up either.

OMG it feels like heaven! I've never ever used a phone without a protector. Stays cleaner too!

yes. it. is.
but its bit annoying, because it will become a fingerprint magnet...

What if Samsung only replace the batteries and you don't get a new device? You're going to have a scratched up phone!

[Q] Would this screen crack be covered under warranty?

Hey guys,
I woke up this morning to check my alarm and i got so shocked that i fully woke up. I noticed a small crack below the home buttom. I have NO IDEA how it happened. I would appreciate any expert opinion if this would be covered under Samsung warranty.
Thanks

It's my understanding if you are willing to pay you can return it. I know if you were on Verizon you could return the phone within the first month and then "repurchase" the exact same device.
On a side note, there has to be something horribly wrong with Gorilla Glass 2. I foresee a recall coming...

Do you have any evidence of that? From the video's and articles I read about the s3 and gorilla glass (2) there is nothing wrong with it. The new design of the S3 (thin bezzle) makes is more "fragile" but also smaller, lighter and more usable in one hand.
So rather get a bumper / case (like many iPhone users have been forced to do)...
I have just been following this site and several others in my spare time and it seems like a lot of breakage for GG2. Considering the stuff is supposed to be stronger than its predecessor, it doesn't seem to be handling the abuse (or most cases lack there of) too well.

Wow that sucks! But definitely looks like it fell. I dont think its just gorilla glass 2 tho, the build of this device is just not as solid as the s2. I even managed to scratch the paint on the bottom white button on the first day using the S3. Thought it was dust and then when i realized it was chipped paint i was pretty furious at myself!

The phone's fragile as Hell and Samsung didn't even fit a wrist strap loop because obviously with the size of it people are inevitably gonna drop it.

Cracked screen issue
I purchased S3 for myself and have had it for 2 weeks with no issues. My wife saw the phone and said she wanted one as well. So, I ordered it. We received it, charged it, and then activated the phone. She put it back on the charger before she went to bed. Got up in the morning put it in her padded phone pouch in her purse and ran to the store. She went to call me from the store and noticed a crack in the screen from the earpiece to volume button on the phone. She said she did not drop or bang it on anything. Needless to say she returned the phone no questions asked by AT&T and bought the iPhone 4S instead because she did not want to have to worry about the screen breaking for no apparent reason. The one thing I did notice on her S3 was where the screen meets the case. There seemed to be a glass grit or dust in the crack around 2/3 rds of the perimeter screen. My S3 did not have that.

I got a deep scratch on my phone. What can I do?

I had a droid x that I had in my pocket with heavy knives, keys, coins, etc and only got those very small scratches where you could only see them if it was held in the light at the correct angle. I've had this phone for less than a week and it has a deep scratch that my fingernail can grab onto.
Should I attempt an exchange? I know it's ultimately my fault...but do I have options? I have insurance but I'm looking for a freebie or cheapie.
screen protectors are cheap but I hear time machines are pretty costly.

Something that can go through Gorilla Glass won't be stopped by a flimsy screen protector. It would have made no difference.
Not a lot you can do. Some people say putting a screen protector over a scratch can hide it some extent.
Replacing the screen on the cheap is out of the question. It's basically attatched to another part which means you have to replace two parts.
I don't have a screen protector, starting to think I should!

Of course a screen protector should have helped. Just a tiny bit of sand can ruin the screen completely. With a screen protector just it should have been wasted and not the screen

Same here, I take real care of my mobiles. My old i9000 doesn't even sport one scratch after two years while the i9300s screen is littered with them. Not really sure why though, but I think it might be the flip cover. (tiny bit of sand on it and bye bye screen)
Right now I am not too bothered with it, I'm going to get the screen replaced in two weeks.

I was wondering too if it was weaker on the SGS3 but probably not. I was hoping they had some sort of fix for scratches. I know clear nail polish will remove a scratch on glass albeit temporary. I may see how that works. It still baffles me though that 2 years and no scratches on the droid x and 3 days and I got a nice deep one on this newer phone. I guess I just had bad luck.
For the person who wrote about fraud...you're a douche. Verizon had no problem downgrading me from unlimited after I upgraded well before the expiration. I did get that back with a phone call, but they had no problem attempting fraud. If there was a known minor issue with the first release phones you bet I would try to work that into getting a new one and pretend as if the flaw was affecting my usage. I know that's a stretch but there are some smart people on this forum who can think of just about anything.

Your argument is that this should not be happening on gorilla glass, especially not on 3rd gen glass. It's a faulty glass, some of the white ones had bad gorilla glass and was easy scratched.i have never used a screen cover and never had a scratch (2 sgs,2 gs2 +1 gs3) over 2 year period.
and it should be replaced be the phone warrenty and not the insurance.
This is your argument,if they eat it or not that depends.
Do you think I could exchange my 16gb phone for a 32gb phone? Just say I want the bigger one. I'm still within the exchange dates correct?
They are going to say it's not scratch proof

What do they do differently then any other screen protector manufacture? Ive only used the cheap ones and Zagg. i now go unprotected. Can you tell me why are they so likable?

The crystal clear screen protectors are the best I've seen and used. I almost destroyed the screen on my charge with a set of keys in my pocket but the protector did It's job and saved it. I was helping a friend load some boxes and smashed the keys into the screen. They apply really nice, feel like glass, and are absolutely clear. At $14 for a 2 pack is cheap insurance for your phone. Just my opinion.

Their glas.t protectors are the hardest and best screen protector. They are actually made partially out of glass. The realook screen protectors have a 4H hardness rating while the steinheil has 8-9H

Thought I'd post links to the Realook (I don't have one yet, but it's useful to post links to discussed accessories).
This link will lead to both Amazon and Ebay sites.
I've had the realook ones and they don't compare to the quality or protection offered by Steinheil. I've run these on every phone I've had and my Ipod touch. Too bad they are not supporting the Rezound. They have them for the Thunderbolt, Incredible, and One X.

Just to put my thoughts out there - I fully disagree. I think the reallook ones are very comparable to SGP and come in at a very close second.
Thats how i feel as well. I had steinhils on all my devices for years...and i feel as tho the realook is just as good if not better. My 2 cents.
Sent from my HTC Rezound.
I've always had a preference for Steinheil too... They are just better... But I guess to the normal person they are just as good as anything else, a screen protector is a screen protector... Even though they are much better.
Most protectors I've used are really smooth and nice for a week or so, then get grippy feeling, even after cleaning them. Probably has something to do with the hardness... But the steins feel better for longer. Just something I've noticed...
Edit: oh not to mention they don't scratch as easy...
My realooks have been super scratched for the past 6 months of usage, wish I had something that is more scratch-proof
Ordered the Realook protectors. Guess I will find out soon enough. Always used zagg, wanted to try these out.

Tiny bit of the anti-shatter screen protector burning off?

As you can see from the picture, there's a little spot on the phone. It appeared there about 2months ago and never went away/got any bigger so I concluded it's part of the anti shatter film deteriorated? I was in HK when this happened!
Has this happened to anyone else?

Though I understand why Sony uses an anti shatter film I cannot understand why they made them so soft? Within 24 hours of indoor use on my XZ I could see minute scratches.
I Ordered the same time I ordered the Ultra some screen protectors but they have not arrived yet. That bloomin shatter proof film has been a real pain in the butt for so many owners. Removing it voids the warranty here. Two plastic protective covers certainly causes picture deterioration. No way in hell would I use a pencil on the standard soft anti shatter film though.
Sony tend to get so close to producing near perfect devices then nearly always drop the ball on some silly trivia. Very odd company?
Ryland
I actually read last week that Sony is required by Japanese law to use anti-shatter films on their handheld devices so people don't get hurt when they shatter. I'm not sure if this is indeed true, but i read it twice last week (can't remember where i read it though, but it was on tech site).
I've had my ultra several months now and as of now, the screen protector is just as it was from day one. Lucky me!
It is, however, a fingerprint magnet!

Maybe this one..
About the shatter proof film, it is Japanese legislation, they put it because it is required. They dont have to do that for phones sold outside Japan but they chose to do it anyway (maybe because they dont like lawsuits from people who got their pockets full of tiny pieces of razor sharp glass) with few exceptions (like the international model of Z Ultra, the film would kinda ruin the use of pencils as stylus)

I removed the screen protector on mine a while back, and its much better. The touchscreen works better, the feel of glass is nicer and its far more scratch resistant. The only downside is that without a proper oleophobic coating I need to apply rain-x every couple of weeks or the screen picks up smudges. :good:

I got a highly annoying scratch in the middle of the screen on the factory protector after just three days that was very visible when the screen was on. I never put protectors on my phones and I never get scratches after months of use.
So I removed the protector and go naked from now on as I always do.
Supposedly Sony replace for new anti shatter protector after each repair is that correct? As I asked for mine to be changed and Ok they said yes. So if that's the case why did people remove the anti shatter film and just void their warranty instead of getting Sony to change it. Plus I had problems with my Usb port and Usb cover so sending it off tomorrow

some people prefer the feel of the glass. also, its a HUGE fingerprint magnet (more than any pure glass ive ever used).

Or put the glass m over the top and not void warranty. It may be a finger print magnet I no that. But I'd rather wipe it and carry on instead of spending about a scary tedious 2-3 hours taking it off voiding warranty just for some finger prints. Just my opinion but still. I gotta send mine off hopefully tomorrow though. I hope they fix my problems without charging me etc.

Just finished. Took a little under an hour. I had some scratches on the screen, so I didn't wanna spend $40 on a screen protector to place over the scratches. Also, I've read about screen distortion and reduced sensitivity when placing a protector over the stock ASP. I know not everyone experiences it, but with my luck, I would... Lol. I hope you get yours taken care of fast and at no charge, mate.

Something tells me that most people are not interested in saying "bye bye" to their ZU for 1-8 weeks every time they get a scratch

The Best/Case Friendly Tempered Glass Screen Protector w/easy installation

The verizon branded S8 screen protector is great quality, cheap and easy to install. (I purchased it for $26 on the VZW website)
All you have to do is clean up your phone real nice
Then set it inside of the guide piece that comes in the box.
Take off the plastic from the sticky side and set the screen protector on the guide.
Push down on the protector and take off the plastic from the upper side of the protector and BOOM you're done.
It fits in cases without lifting and doesn't cover any of the sensors.
The only complaint I would have is that you can see some dots in direct sunlight but that's a non-issue if you turn the brightness up or just don't be in direct sunlight
Let me know what you guys think. I recommend you try one for yourself. Looks better in person. sorry for the giant pics
If you have any questions about it let me know. Oh and there are no dead spots for touch and it responds no loss in sensitivity.
it is full adhesive on the entire protector? I just looked it up on my corporate Verizon site and it has a Samsung part number so I am pretty sure this is the official glass screen protector that samsung was rumored to be coming out with. I went ahead and ordered it since I get a discount. Part number for anybody interested :SAMDM1PKGSPBK

Both have really bad reviews. Besides marketing and one having the black border, I fail to see a real difference between them.

Apparently Verizon brands all their generic stuff similarly. The guy at the store told me they do the same for all brands. That being said this thing is more trash, screen sensitivity is worse than the GPEL I had on. Funny thing was right after install it was perfect and its slowly getting worse.

I'm either going wet or none. I heard mention in a video that the current glass ones without full glue aren't so nice if you plan to get the phone wet, which I do.

Preordered mine from SecondSkin to make sure my baby was protected as soon as it came out of the box. Went on easily and touch seems unaffected. We'll see how it holds up.

Which second skin model did you order?

I got the Iluvvitt and ZAGG tempered glass. Both are basically crap. They are designed the exact same, with the adhesive only being on the edges. The result is a constant halo effect, and because there is a slight gap between the phone screen and the protector, you get a "rainbow effect" when you turn the phone at different angles. Same exact problem with all of the glass screen protectors and my LG V20.
Yeah the reviews for the verizon one are terrible. Is it the the curved display that has made it hard to make a good tempered glass protecter for S6, S7E, & S8?

From what I've seen, yes. For some reason they can't or just don't put adhesive on the whole protector, only the edges.
