Y type OTG/Power OTG for M4 aqua. - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Well, we know that m4 aqua doesn't have native otg support. But is it going to detect usb devices connected via Y-type otg or power otg cable ??
I've seen some devices to work this way and also heard that it works for almost all devices. There are many devices out there with SD615 chipset and they have otg support.
so, the point is, has anyone tried it on m4 ?? is it going to work??
just making sure before buying a cable.
thanks.

[Q] usb otg working in rooted grand quattro?

I have a rooted galaxy grand quattro with stock rom and I used this usb otg checker app and it says my phone is otg compatible I hav attached the screenshot of it and details of my phone thanks in advance
for what I know, our SoC is OTG capable, but the functionality is not actually implemented in the Kernel.... If you can, and have a way to, get a USB OTG cable and try to connect a pendrive or a mouse to your phone, if possible, also take a logcat and a dmesg while you connect the devices.
Actually to use usb otg in our device a new kernel is being made...once it is complete you can use usb otg but untill then no luck...

USB OTG

Hello guys,
I've seen lots of youtube videos in which this phone has usb on the go activated. The problem is that mine doesn't have usb otg acces and i want to activate it, so that i could connect my dslr to it, to focus better in night photography. Does anyone knows how to activate it? Is there a way to do it, does it require root? Thank you
Usb otg is just a technology that is implemented in the micro usb port. You can't disable or enable it.
The fault is probably because you're connecting you're dslr wrong way.
(maybe power supply is needed)

i tried not only my dslr, i tried with an usb stick and a mouse. None of them were detected by the phone
- i installed an usb otg checker and it said that some kernel must be activated, and i needed root so that that certain application could activate this feature
@pilifida
You need to post details about your system if you expect help... what is your phone model and what rom / kernel are you using?
I can confirm my z2 usb otg works perfectly on existenz 4.0 rom on a locked bootloader.
Usb mouse/keyb works, usb storage works, ds3 controller works, mhl adapter works, dslr controller app working perfectly with a canon 1200d... no external power needed too (use short usb cables)
If you are on sony stock lollipop rom it should work by itself, if it's not working on sony stock rom try another usb-otg cable/adapter, maybe your cable is broken.
I attached a photo of my system details. My rom version is the original/Orange 5.1.1
The cable is new

See photo above.thx
Well since you are on stock 5.1.1 .200 rom/kernel it should be working as it is.... I suspect your otg cable is faulty even if it's new... try another one.
If it doesn't work with another cable try flashing your phone with flashtool. You can also update to a generic .232 rom if you want (battery seems to have improved in .232) and you'll get rid of orange bloatware as a bonus
If you use flashtool backup everything on your phone before as it'll get wiped clean.
thank you

Exactly, I've once bought a cheap cable that wasn't working.

[Q] Please Help! USB OTG Not Working on Blackview Ultra A6

So I tried using OTG devices with the Blackview Ultra with both the stock rom and CyanogenMod 12.1 installed but it just doesn't work. I have tried multiple USB OTG cables and none have worked, I know it is not the cable because it works fine with my friends phone. I have also run USB Host Diagnostics on the phone and it says that the OS supports OTG but simply no device is detected.
The bizarre thing is that the Ultra itself claims OTG support. It even comes with an OTG cable included in the box!
So if anyone could give me some insight on this it would be greatly appreciated. I really want to see some USB devices working with my phone. Thank you!
Bump
Anyone?

Q1:
Have you tried connecting your device to the computer via a USB cable? Can the computer recognize it?
If no, maybe there is problem with your USB port.
If yes, proceed to the next question.
Q2:
Have you tried changing the connectivity state for the USB port in Settings?
If not, try it out now.
If yes, report back and we'll discuss further more.
Use Es File Explorer... That's what I've been using
Sorry for late reply, I got it working, I replaced the usb cable, I think that the quality of the cable was too bad

USB OTG does not work.

I have a non-rooted Sony Xperia Z5 Compact with the latest Android 7.0 version. Before that I had a Z1 Compact, now used by my wife, for which I bought 2 Kingston DataTraveller MicroDuo usb sticks. They worked (and still work) with the Z1 Compact, but on my Z5 Compact they are not detected.
I DO use the "Detect USB device" setting, but get the message that no device is detected.
My SD card is not encrypted. I tried Safe Mode, connect the usb stick and restarting, and all 3 formats (NTFS, FAT32 and exFAT), but nothing helps. As a last resort I did a reset to factory settings with SonyXperia Companion , but even that didn't solve it. I also tried connection via the Sony OTG cable and with other usb sticks , but no success.
Imo, the usb port cannot be the problem, because I can connect with my laptop.
Is there anything else that I can try ?
Thanks in advance.

Go to settings - device connection - usb settings - detect usb
I did that already from the beginning, as I wrote in my post above.
I have exactly the same problem. Android 7.0 and no possibility to connect device using OTG cable. I tried the "Detect USB" option and also tried to power off the phone and start it with the OTG cable but nothing happened...
Is there some limitation or bug about OTG functionnality in Android 7.0 on Z5C ?
Anybody else ?
Did it work for you on MM? Can't rule out the possibility of a Nougat specific bug.

I remember that I tried it once, but not as extensively as now (with all the formats, safe mode etc) and it didn't work then either.
OTG works for both my wife's Z5C and mine on MM, so if yours fail to function even on MM, then there's a chance of your phone having a hardware defect. Send it in for warranty service if possible.
Or, ask the manufacturer of your OTG device (Kingston) if Z5C is properly supported. Although supposedly a device compliant with a standard shouldn't need special tweaking for compatibility, I noticed that there's a list of compatible devices listed on the manufacturer's product website, and the Z5C is not on that list.
OTG not working
Has anyone found a solution. My Z5 is running android 7.1.1 and it cannot detect my flash drive. If any of you found a solution i would appreciate it if you could share.
