We have the option to have them mail us the device instead of going to the seller. I've registered my FD variant purchased through Swiftronics. Curious to see what happens. Should hear from a rep in 24 hours.

That would be great. I'd hate to have them swap it out with an SD820. Have a custom ROM with viper4android and I'm absolutely loving this phone. Not one hint of lag.

Any word from Samsung about how the FD models will be replaced?

None. Some have already gotten an e-mail response. I'll be following up tomorrow afternoon. By then 48h will have passed.
Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk

Just filled the form. I really hope they don't give me a Snapdragon version but an FD version or I'm sending the replacement back. And the FD better be gold as there was no color statement.

I filled that form out 2 days ago. Have yet to get a call or even an email.

I don't know what you are expecting. I'm almost certain Samsung Canada has no stock of FD versions to send to anyone in Canada. Considering this is an international model, purchased from a different region...Samsung Canada has no obligation to send you a FD...or any replacement at all.
I could be wrong...but my guess is that you will get a Snapdragon version...if you get a replacement at all. That's the risk you take when purchasing a model from outside of the region from where you live. I was so close to ordering a FD from Dubai before I just went with the W8.

Ya that's what I'm leaning towards too. But it doesn't hurt to try especially when it's free. When the time comes and IF they even decide contact me back for what ever reason I'll make sure to ask them about which device they would send as a replacement, if it's the Snapdragon version I'll just politely decline and stick to the FD.

They damn sure do have an obligation to replace the device...a device which could injure or kill you...or your family or burn down your house or your vehicle.
Doesnt matter what model or country its from...its still says Samsung on it.
They are then liable for any injury or damage which results from one of their products.
Getting an FD unit yes....highly unlikely i agree.

Correction...if it's FD you bought, then Samsung has an obligation to replace your device, not Samsung CANADA. They could just as easily tell you to deal with the regional Samsung branch from which you bought your phone. If the FD is from Dubai, you deal with Samsung UAE, and if your FD is from Singapore, you deal with Samsung Singapore.
That's why companies like Samsung encourage you to buy the model that is available FROM the country you live in...it makes for easier handling when it comes to warranty issues, service issues and recalls like this.

Bought from Samsung.com and wondering if there's an option to refund the phone rather than exchange? With all the banning of the phone bring used on planes by FAA and Canadian equivalent, I'm growing less inclined to keep this model and wait for a subsequent version.

Sony Xperia SX SO-05D availability?

Also known as the MT28, I know this phone was announced for only the Japanese market, and just recently in September. I am interested in any rumors for a potential international release. I would love to have this phone. I cannot underscore that enough. It is svelte & slim, has amazing resolution, and decent performance specs.
Has anyone outside Japan gotten a hold of this phone? Were you able to put it on another native language??
Thanks!
So do i, i cant wait to have this phone but this if it will be released internationally

Someone, somewhere suggested looking at http://www.kyoex.com/, but they do not have the SX listed... yet.
I have it!
I live in Japan and got it last week.
It is an awesome phone, perfect for me and English is in the menu, English keyboard too.
I can get them if anyone's interested?
If a developer that might make some custom ROMS etc in the future wants one all the better! 'Cause I dont reckon I can do it.

What was the street price? At Kyoex it's $775 + shipping.
A comparison to the new iPhone 5 -- http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4910&idPhone2=4775. The street price for an unlocked iPhone 5 is ~$1000
More spec's on Qualcomm's developer network: https://developer.qualcomm.com/device/sony-xperia-sx-so-05d
Its between 37000-50000 yen depending where you look.
From Docomo they are 50000, but there are loads of people that "turn over" the handsets to get cash by getting it free on a contract and selling it. They are between 37000-46000.

hi guys, i'm also really interested in this phone
I'm from Europe but i have a friend who will go to Japan soon and he could bring it back for me
I'm wondering, will everything work correctly in Europe and where will we have some devs, custom roms etc? Will XDA support this phone?
isn't it a bit pricey for those specs and screen size?
love the tall screen btw, but it reminds me of a very popular device currently on the market

In terms of bands in the UK at least Im not sure if 4G will work. It says 2100Mhz LTE (the UK is 1800Mhz LTE), however the chipset looks the same as for example the One XL and Xperia GX (Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon).
i'm only interested in 3g, i hope that could work OK, i will check with my carrier

actually it's a perfect phone because of it's screen size and the specs (pricy yes...a little bit)
right now i have an X10 and it's a bit too big for me, so this one could be just the right size
the only phone i could think of getting instead is the xperia sola but it's camera really disappointed me...
I actually went from an x10 to this and its perfect for me.
Its marked as a Docomo "world wing" phone so it should work anywhere in the world. Only thing is whether lte will work.

does your phone boot up like this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsUYR73r4xM
i got mine in china and it boots up like my Ray. first "SONY" then just "XPERIA". i don't have all the Docomo-Branding. My UI also just looks like my Ray and totally different from the one in the video. Build is 7.0.D.1.117. But it has the "NTTdocomo" on top of the front side.

[Q]To be or not to be...... mad about a locked bootloader

So this is really my only go to phone at the moment. However as you can see from my tag I am coming from a nexus. Assuming it doesn't get unlocked like the S3 how mad should I be over the locked bootloader? No custom kernel, so no over clocking, no battery tweaks, etc. But let's be honest on my nexus while I always rock a custom kernel I am not in there tweaking it all the time. How do others feel? To me it just more or less feels like a slap in the face from Verizon.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I have used the t-mobile note 2 for a few days and you don't need to do any of that stuff to this phone. The speed is freaking amazing and the battery lasts all freaking day. The only thing i did was root it so that I could is TiBU and I was set. (I ended up returning the phone due to stinky t-mobile signal so I'll be waiting for the vzw version to come out)
Will 4.2 be able to be installed before Verizon gets off their slow duffs
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I dont think it'll be bad. You see all these other threads of everyone *****ing about the locked bootloader just like the s3 and that got unlocked. I have faith. I just want to be able to root and ROM. I just preordered it yesterday! A whole month away though it feels so long haha

Not really for this device. To get the full potential you need the majority of Samsungs framework riding behind the scenes. A phone like this would not be right with just AOSP/stock Android. Maybe keep the possibility of having a Samsung ROM that's cleaned up a bit but not a total makeover.
Now a phone like the Droid HD or the upcoming HTC DNA then yes; I would be pissed.

No,
Friend of mine got the S3 it came packaged with a pair but they're similar in quality to the Apple *earpods* pretty good for a free pair of headphones packaged with a phone but if you're an audiophile you will want to spend the extra money and buy a real quality set. Best set I've seen packaged with a phone was the HTC deal one some of the One X models and the Rezound coming with the ibeats, those are actually really good quality headphones they aren't the highest end you can buy but for something that came with a phone it's a $100 pair of headphones.
---------- Post added at 10:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 PM ----------
The Note 2 I believe is still the most expensive phone on the market and comes packaged from Verizon anyway with absolutely nothing but a new data plan and larger monthly bill
Not even a $10 16GB SD card ...Thanks big red!
That said it really is an amazing device though I'm glad I got it.
The N2 doesn't come with the earbuds, but who cares as the ones they throw in are junk anyway........
The Rezound came with the little Beats earbuds which sell for $100 but even those are junk really.......
Some of the other carriers include headphones. If I am not mistaken, AT&T and Verizon are the only two that don't offer them.

It wouldn't be bad to be able to see a quick text or email without pulling my phone out. Also the camera would be great for creeper pics Anyone that pays $300 for that thing though is insane.
Galaxy Gear I love it! Expensive for sure, but then Samsung stuff always is when it first comes out - I'd say it'll be down to $200 in just a few months.
What I'm excited about is:
1) Microphone and speaker, so I can talk without holding a huge phone against my face!
2) Health sensors, so I can do my daily workout much more conveniently!
3) Camera, so I can merrily take pictures at the drop of a hat!
Pretty sweet I reckon - now I wonder what watch Apple have got up their sleeves lol

the health sensors are what make me think this won't work on the note 2. Only the S4 and the note 3 have those built into the phone.
Personally, I'm more interested in the Qualcomm mirasol display watch. I don't like that the Samsung gear is going to be so locked into Samsung. But I don't think the qualcomm one is going to be widely available. Its more of a dev tester device.

Late to the party, I know. I'm considering the S9+ international version for use here on the USA. SM-G965F. Any suggestions of best retailer, or personal buying experiences would be helpful. Checking Amazon and EBay. Came up donuts on Swappa.
EDIT: I don't need dual SIM but there are a lot more of them, would that matter?

In the US I've found new devices are priced lower on Ebay. The Dual SIM is advantageous when you use the 2nd SIM Slot for additional memory with an SD Card, up to 400 GB. By doing so it saves money since you can opt for a device with 64 GB internal memory which cost less in the long run. My last 5 devices were purchased from this Ebay seller. Lowest pricing I've seen and great customer service. Good luck!

That's the exact one I found. Now I'm trying to figure out how hard the unlocking and so forth is. I'm familiar with Nexus devices and the OnePlus One only...

Easy, coles notes version:
Wait 7 days, enable OEM unlock, boot to download mode, flash twrp in odin, format data in twrp, flash magisk, reboot.
Done.
There are ways to circumvent the 7 day wait but honestly if you cant wait 7 days you have other bigger issues lol

I hate waiting... It would give me more time to get all my ducks on a row though.

Had a replacement Nexus S 4g after an "incident" that was a lemon ... That's no fun. The second replacement was a refurb that was never quite that same.

Most are locked, including all US Carrier devices. You will see Unlocked phones on Samsung's US website but that only refers to the SIM, not the bootloader. Hong Kong and Latin American Snapdragon variants are all unlocked. Plus it's not likely that the device will have the overheating and battery drain issues which are a concern with the Exynos variants.

Snapdragon cannot be bootloader unlocked. Only option is sim unlocking for different carriers. Oem unlock is pointless on snapdragon.

You might want to let the developers know they're wasting their time.

Pulled that trigger on a SM-G965F/DS. So, I suppose we'll see how this plays out.
