How to root and/or replace the OS on an Oppo R9 Plus - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't have a lot of experience working with Android devices. A new coworker of mine has an Oppo R9 Plus that was purchasing in China. It currently only has access to a Chinese-language app store (even though the phone is in English mode).
If possible, I am looking to help her root the phone, and replace the OS with a standard version of the Android operating system (a newer version would be great, but really the version doesn't much matter). The goal here is to be rid of China-specific junk and limitations, and to have access to the standard Google Play store.
Unfortunately, searches here and on the web have not been super helpful, providing me a range of tools and possibilities (many locked behind very scammy looking offers before download). Is what I want to do possible? Any direction for where I should be looking?

Do you find a solution? I got the same problem with my Oppo R9.. The important things are still in Chinese and no method i found in the internet to root the Phone works..

Hi Guys , I had the same issue and i tried to flash Oppo r9 plus with the international ROM from singapore website of oppo . But now i m stuck on Oppo logo when i boot the phone . My phone is R9 Plusm A. Any help will be appreciated .
Regards

oppo r9 plus dual sim 4g 128gb Root, install Cm13
HI all, you have to down grade the firmware to early version to able to root. use any one click root tool, and then download oppo tools 2.apk, use the oppo tool to unlock bootloader, if you get this far, try to search twrp.img file on internet to overwrite the recovery, boot into TWRP recovery install any up to date firmware, or CM13 TO CM14.
CM14 got bug, not able to get 4g signal on both sim
Good luck

Hi, R9 plusA with root and unlock bootloader Can i flash international firmware (x9709)?

Im not sure, not try

From what I can tell, the modem firmware on the international and Chinese international variants are different. To get LineageOS 13 working on mine I had to replace NON-HLOS.bin in the firmware packages from Wuxianlin with one from ColorOS.
After a few small tweaks to the device tree LineageOS 13 seems to be working fine on the X9079

Hey there.....may I ask the steps you took to achieve this? From stock all the way to the Lineage OS that you reached. I've tried tons of stuff but it doesnt seem to work. Could you guide me? or maybe email me? Thanks in advance Kudos for showing evidence that its still possible to Custom OS that R9 Plus.(Color OS honestly is pathetic.....I could've give it a chance if developer options are permanent but Nooooooo.)

All information is in the linked thread to the Oppo Forums. And most of the Kudos goes to Wuxianlin I've been using Lineage as my daily driver - it's almost perfect - but because of Oppo's GPL violation in not releasing the source code for the kernel, some little bugs may never be able to be fixed.

The firmware files won't download.

Hello. Thanks for your tutorial and file Repo. I am doing work for a client who wants the stock firmware flashed on his device again. From what i gather it is a Chinese version. It has a Chinese and English menu. Did you flash to the international from a Chinese model or another? Phone is still new to me so I've no idea if there was more than just the 2. I read your post on Oppo http://community.oppo.com/en/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=51837&extra= and understand the instructions and have been debating flashing however since this is what i believe to be a Chinese version I don't wan't to risk bricking it. Was yours a Chinese model and was the only thing needed besides root and twrp a simple swap of the NON-HLOS.bin in the firmware packages from Wuxianlin with one from ColorOS? I noticed you said you made a few tweaks too.
Has this project progressed much?
If i don't take the above route could you possibly guide me to a working flash file for 5.1.1 and 6.0 ColorOS Chinese/English model of the R9 Plusm A?
This is what i've found and tried so far flashing from SD-CARD with no luck however. - X9079EX_11_OTA_013_all_201706081345_local.zip (a few others too but they are updates and i need to format and flash all.)
Sorry for 10000 questions. I'm not left with a whole lot of information and options on this phone.
Thanks,

Is the R9 Plusm A the International and the R9s Plus the Chinese or a totally different model? I'm still reading up as phone is new to me. Confused.

As it says in big red letters on the opening post on the oppo forums, it's for the international version only (X9079EX) . I have never owned a R9 Plusm A, and I sold my international one anyway.

I got it all taken care of last evening. Client should be happy.

Hi All,
I have a Chinese purchased Oppo A57 running ColorOS version 3.0 and Android 6.0.1. As other have mentioned a lot of the core apps and settings are still in Chinese despite the fact that all the language settings have been turned to English. Is there "flashing for dummies" method of getting an English version of the OS installed on this thing that has limited (or no) chance of me bricking the phone. I have read through the thread and to be frank a lot of the instruction seem to be above my pay grade. If anyone has some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. The alternative is to learn Chinese which will be tough.

And what and how you do it?
TO ALL - it's been more than a year since this thread was opened, and still not a single normal answer. Guys with X9097X phone - stop answering here - you have intenarional version of smartphone so it is easy for you to upgrade firmware, change firmware or even flash custom.
The main problem is OPPO R9 Plusm A - full chinese phone. I was so stupid to changed my iphone 6 plus 64gb to this POS. I was really hoping that soon someone will find way how to change chinese ROM to international one, but still it is impossible. I tell you more - OPPO comunity forum already deleted all threads about R9 Plusm A.
Half an year ago on oppo community forum was one man who managed to make manual how to delete/stop all chinese junk on this phone, but thanks to administration of forum it was deleted and now, when i accidentaly done factory reset i can't find this article and remove chinese junk...
I don't ask you for manual of flashing international ROM, but maybe someone have screenshots or cached version of that deleting chinese junk manual? I will be very appretiating for this.
PS i'm sorry for any mistaces in my sentences, it is not my native language and i'm from Ukraine) Please help me, because i've tired fighting with this phone and i can't even sell it, because nobody understand the power and potential of this phone while it is full of chinese apps and services.

[Q] Available roms for the Cube U39GT?

I am planning to buy one of these tablets to tinker with. After some searching, I found the following rom alternatives:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum...-firmware-version-1-04-test-version-20130723/
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/91121-tempestu39gt-roms-v0001/
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/89434-custom-firmware-from-4pda-based-on-stock-104/
Do you know of any other worthwhile rom to try out, or are these three all that's available?

thanks for sharing, gonna try the TempestU39GT
There's also 1.05 multiwindow rom that some say is better than stock 1.04, download is here :
rom
Do not buy the Cube U39GT-3G version of this tablet, I ordered one from http://www.cube-tablet.com and it came with a wrong IMEI number. I cannot use any SIM data card because of this with this tablet.
I bought the Wifi version, so I am not in danger. Thanks for the warning though, it certainly speaks of extremely crappy QA.
racht: anytime, and thank you for the link to 1.5.
It seems like another rom might be on the works:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?8204-Are-there-any-worthwhile-roms-for-the-Cube-U39GT
Apparently it will be based on stock 1.04 instead of 1.05, but if it comes to completion it might be worth it to try it out.

ROM has been uploaded yesterday but the dev doesn't own a U39GT. So anyone willing to test can do it now
I can't believe that slipped by me. Thanks for the heads-up. :good:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum...2-custom-root-firmware-version-1-06-20131123/
This looks promising as well with 1.06 Cube firmware update and AOSP launcher.
New original Cube firmware 1.06 is downloadabl from official cube site.
http://www.51cube.com/ch/DownShow.asp?ID=205
I can recommend Google for translating the chinese, you can download the ROM from baidu which could take a few hours.
Awesome, thanks for the heads-up.
They require registration to access the downloads? Dammit, I refuse to create an account just to go and download something. Do you have an account there, locutus2000? If so, would you be willing to mirror it somewhere?
I was able to fix the IMEI issue, so it is safe to buy, again. The support from the vendor was not helpful, the wrong IMEI number is not only wrong for me but for all of the sold models. They all have 111111111111111 as IMEI number, no big deal with the MTK Droid Tools I was able to load a new IMEI, that was generated from an internet site. It works with the SIM cards now.
Important to know: the Cube 9 Talk with the 3G SIM card uses MediaTek MTK8389T CPU whereas the Cube 9 without the SIM card 3G feature uses a RockChip RK3188 CPU. The ROMs are not interchangeable.
So whatever issues you may have, it may be a completely different story for the person that owns the other chipset. Strange enough that Cube built two similar products with completely different hardware.
The Cube U39GT 3G ROM Version 1.03 for the 3G version can be found here:
http://www.51cube.com/ch/DownShow.asp?ID=206
If you have donwloaded and unpacked the firmware, you may end up with chinese folder names. Flash tool did not accept the scatter file when I tried to select it using these folder names.
To resolve this: Simply create a new folder name and copy/paste the ROM of the Cube to the new folder, the update should then work with the Flashtool. I have used Version 3.1328.0.183. The update takes a while so be patient. Worked with mine.

BLUBOO Picasso 3G - Android 6.0 update?

Hello!
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to android development, but since BLUBOO pulled their Android 6.0 update for their 5.1 Picasso 3G phone, I was wondering if a port would be at all possible? I found many guides on the internet but I've bricked a few phones in the past and thought I would ask to see if anyone else has tried/achieved this at all.
I found a ROM that the Picasso 4G uses that is a 6.0 rom - Would this be okay to port or am I going to overwrite the bootloader or whatever I did to my last phone and have another brick to add to my collection, lol?

added installation of twrp with android 6.0 (rom bravis), and custom rom 7.1.2 crDroid.
This custom rom is amazing and has many customization options and the system is rooted by default.

Hello dear users and developers of firmware for the device LG V30+
Today I became the owner of LG v30+ 4/128 (H930DS), currently it has a software version installed: Android 7.1.2, Kernel version 4.4.63, Software version V10d-IND-XX (I don’t quite understand what the last meaning means)
I respect all developers of firmware for this device, but I want to ask which firmware is more stable (where both camera modules work well and there is support for the built-in analog digital converter) and has more functions in terms of interface customization? Interested in Android version 8 and 9.
Thank you for paying attention to this thread. :fingers-crossed:

"10" means Nougat
20 would be Oreo.
Your best bet right now is to update to early Oreo (pre-July 2018) to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root. Then update to current rooted Oreo firmware.
Everything will work, and you can flash Magisk modules to get some custom stuff.
See WTF thread for bootloader unlock and TWRP.

Stock firmware doesn't use GAPPS.
Yes, stay on Oreo stock firmware, but unlock bootloader, install TWRP. After that, there's an updated stock OREO H930DS TWRP-flashable zip you can flash to update to latest Oreo.

Stock firmware uses gapps, otherwise you wouldnt have any play services on the phone when you buy it
And how much of the gapps are used depends on how much google makes the manufacturers install, changes every now and then.

OK to clarify, you don't install AOSP GAPPS package with stock firmware.
It already has the apps, and you can manually install what else you need.

Does the standard firmware already have GApps? I would not want to have a GApps core in a smartphone.
Even if we take into account the smallest NANO package, then it has the following components and telemetry as a gift.
Device Health Services
Google App (Search)
Google Package Installer (replaces stock / AOSP Package Installer)
Google Play services
I would like a clean firmware without any trace of google. What can you recommend?

You don't need "GAPPs" on stock. The firmware has what it needs already.
You are complicating the requirements if you now also want no Google. You wanted no bugs.
Tell you what. Unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root, and update to latest firmware. After that, you're on your own.
You can install whatever custom ROM you want, but there's none with no bugs at this point in time.

I apologize for the concern, I am very grateful for your help. But I still do not understand. Is Android upgraded from the air with the Nougat 7.1.2 V10d-IND-XX version to V10e-JAN-23-2018 version? (This is exactly what my smartphone is now offering, as it writes on the display of the device)

US998 Oreo, European H930 Oreo, H930DS Oreo, and open market V30S Oreo have the fastboot flash commands and boot loader unlock flaw. (With pre-July 2018 security patch firmware; don't worry, we can get you there.) At present, if you have post-July Android security patch, you can downgrade to unlock your bootloader.
* India H930DS would use the IND H930DS Oreo KDZ. which has India-specific VoLTE for carriers like Jio -- with pre-July 2018 security patch firmware

And I don’t understand whether I need to be updated or not needed to be updated in order not to make an downgrade.
I will clarify that we need a European version of the firmware.
And once again, I apologize for my poor knowledge of English.

Please do not mention any "10" (Nougat) firmware you are seeing. I've told you 3 times now that's old, outdated. You need "20" Oreo, but to UNlock bootloader you need specific version of Oreo before then updating to current Oreo. It will have a 20. Like 20A.
Updating from old version of Nougat to slightly less old version of Nougat does no good. You can NOT unlock H930DS bootloader on Nougat. You need to jump to specific version of Oreo.

You can use any region H930 or H930DS firmware you wish.
The only exception is for India H930DS for those that need India carrier Jio VoLTE.
I assumed you needed India firmware because that's what you have right now. But you can cross flash to Europe H930 if you wish.
In my WTF INSTRUCTIONS I even give a link to European H930DS OREO KDZ firmware. You can use that, if you wish.
You need to print it those instructions and read them several times.

Congratulations! You successfully updated to Oreo and followed the WTF instructions to it install TWRP and root.
What version firmware are you on now? Are you on H930DS or H930 firmware? If H930DS, which one? CIS?
Did you update to newer firmware after the bootloader unlock TWRP and root stage? LG improved the camera more with latest Oreo updates.
I have Settings screenshot suggestions with Google Photos link in that thread and my KDZ threads. Everyone has their own preferences, but there's so many deep (almost hidden) menus on this device it's easy to overlook some useful toggle (like the lock screen weather animations). And with root, I've been able to enable them all -- not just the two LG has as default.
I've also enabled call recorder and installed some other mods. I also use this one, but may not be compatible with your H930DS/H930.

I don't know the answer to that. I know there are AOSP custom ROMs which can be used without GAPPs and you can install MicroG. The problem until recently with the custom ROMs for the V30 (I said recently) has been replicating various functionality of stock firmware as well as stock firmware. VoLTE, quad DAC (with digital filters), cameras, Always On Display, brightness controls on display, no audio on apps like WhatsApp. A lot of that has been fixed or improved considerably and is still under constant development -- but the title of this thread is "best custom firmware without bugs"... At this point in time I'm not sure that exists, but may in the near future.
For me, I'm running rooted stock firmware with various mods and you can also debloat stuff like the social media apps you do not use. There are threads around about what is "safe" to remove and what isn't. The problem is you besides "no bugs", then you threw in additional "no Google" requirment.
So, run most recent rooted stock firmware for awhile just so you know how it feels. Flash some mods so you can get some customization. THAT will be your baseline. THEN, after making good TWRP backup, you can try experimenting with some of the AOSP ROMs with microG. Good luck.

I apologize for the wording “completely without errors”, I meant without critical errors, such as spontaneous reboot, camera drop after one shot or during video recording, constant disconnection from Wi-Fi. With the wording "without errors", which I had in mind the most common critical errors. I went through all these errors on the zuk z1 device, but today the camera and stabilization, calls, sounds and other functions work perfectly for him, the only thing that did not suit me in this device was 64 GB of memory without the possibility of expanding the microsd card and processor the old x32 architecture and the inefficient Adreno 330 graphics core without Open GL 3.2 support
Now the firmware H930DS20c_00_OPEN_CIS_DS_OP_0419 is installed on my device, in the item “Check for updates” it is written that today I have the latest software version, but I suspect that I don’t know the forum and the updates don’t come because the bootloader is unlocked,
First, I will try to update the firmware to the latest version (if I find how to do it) and remove all unnecessary programs, if nothing good comes of it, then most likely I will install AIS firmware (recommended on another forum with a link to the xda forum )
Tell me, now with the help of root and twrp I can make a full backup of the firmware data H930DS20c_00_OPEN_CIS_DS_OP_0419, and then I can restore it through the same twrp?

Here's a link to the latest 20E CIS H930DS, released back in September:
https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/16406/H930DS20e_00_OPEN_CIS_DS_OP_0824.kdz
The way you would flash it is via LGUP, but UNcheck "recovery" partitions to keep TWRP custom recovery. Then you would boot to TWRP and re-flash the no encryption, no root checker files and Magisk again. It's somewhat a pain, which is why people like to flash the TWRP-flashable zip versions when available.

Reboot into TWRP using the app shortcut I suggested in the WTF thread and go to backup and make a backup. If you use internal memory it's FAST to make backup, but probably also want to use microSD card (much slower) storage so that if you completely wipe your phone you have that backup in a safe place. When you go to restore you will navigate to the place you stored it on your phone.

Fortunately all of the Google related apps can be disabled in the settings on the stock ROM (US998). I'm running stock non-rooted and Google-less with amazing battery life. If you are rooted then you can even use Titanium Backup to freeze anything Google.

~CricketRom 5-2-2019 Changes
-Rebuilt from scratch with the stock base
-USB Debugging fixed and Auto-Enabled
-Updated several apps and removed a couple
Please Read This Before Posting Issues or Questions*If you are getting Error 7 in TWRP, check here for the fix: https://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-4s/how-to/fix-twrp-error-7-t3832283
*If you plan to use Waterfox, I highly recommend you hit the settings in it, go to addons and install Ublock Origin for it. It's by far the best popup blocker I've ever used and I use it on my desktop browser as well.
*SELinux is now set to permissive automatically during rom installation and is static unless you change it with SELinux switch. SELinux switch app is still installed so you can switch freely.
**If you have a Dual-Sim model and want it working, send me a PM with your model# and your build.prop, and I'll get to making a flashable zip that will enable it.
Installation
1- Have Newest TWRP Installed
2- Wipe Data, System, Cache, Dalvik
3- Install ~CricketRom~ from TWRP
4- Reboot and wait 5-10 minutes for first boot
5- On first boot, reboot again(Activate Xposed)
6- ENJOY!!!

Some very interesting things are about to be happening with the Idol 4. I'm learning to build android and I also found a great Dev to help. Not only are we looking towards Android 8 on the Idol 4, but we are looking at making the Idol 4 Treble, which opens the doors to GSI roms, like LOS, RR, PixelExperience and all the other GSI Rom releases(there are alot!)
Please try the new version and post some feedback, it would be greatly appreciated. This is still a great phone and is going to get the love it deserves!!
I've spent Several Hundred Hours on this project, so If you enjoy CricketRom, my TWRP release or my newest RootPackage, Please hit the Thanks Button.

Hardest thing about this phone is balancing the cores on the cpu. If you go to high the battery drains severely and too low it locks up a lot. Wish Alcatel would have released the kernel source I could have made a custom overclockable kernel with better core management.

They did release the source, for the 6055K. all the software is interchangeable between devices. the only thing different really is the build.prop for different features and regions, and some small differences like languages and such. That's how I got all the languages in the Cricket version, borrowed from the 6055K. Doesnt even matter if the phone has 2 or 3gb ram. the kernel knows which is which. Glad to have you back Shinru2004, been a long time man. Hopefully you'll be around and such. Do you still have an Idol 4?

Awesome ROM.... got it to work with the instructions in the download. Works great!!! Testing as daily driver. I had to input the sim unlock code again, but that is probably something I did wrong on my end. Thx for all your effort :good:.

Forget about camera, I just flashed the zip that was uploaded on the previous thread. I'd just like to know why I cannot use live wallpapers (I want to use parallax wallpapers) and If something can be done to enable it, also the crash when I try to open wallshuffle, despite the points I mentioned, the ROM is just great.

Now we have a full-featured 2.8 inch Android 11 smartphone in the format of a classic push-button phone released, having a touchscreen, GPS, BT5.0, IR remote control, dual-band Wi-Fi, two cameras, and all this with MTK A22 chipset. Obviously, QIN F21 Pro is the best in its class.
Unfortunately, QIN F21 Pro is positioned by the manufacturer as a phone for students, hence they closed (and keep closing in the new versions of the firmware!) loopholes and ways to install own third-party software, so there is no standard ability to install any apk locally or through adb, and in the native Chinese market there are only educational programs for China.
The only way to install your own software is the APK renaming and its substitution via PC at the moment when it is being downloaded by the official App Market.
So, guys, any ideas of how to make this phone unchained? It has big potential indeed, so having Google Services would be great, but the bootloader is locked, the FW is signed, MTK flashing tool refuses to flash unsigned paritions.

You can read the firmware from the device with uni android tool!
I wonder, I've read that this device is rootable (there seems to be some guides on chinese forums about this) I just couldn't find any info regarding if it has a unlocked bootloader? Would LineageOS be possible on this? Global version is coming later this year, according to this video.

The rumored Global version will be using the Unisoc T310 soc with its bootloader cannot be unlocked and very secured based on 2 years old phones running it

cool! does contacts syncs properly? does it has a custom TWRP already? can it boot recovery via adb or other root advanced reboot app?

Pre-installed.
Iv made it with a friend, device dont have twrp, iv full backup of the firmware, she will not worked without unlock BL, unless you have the vbmeta keys to re-sign them
Device is android 11, so it dont have a regular recovery partition to replace with twrp of course.

Do you have full firmware? Can you enter factory flash mode? There are many tools on the internet how to bypass mtk soc securities for dumping and flashing full firmware. Its funny Chinese not sharing the proceedure how to do it when it will help a lot to a Chinese company to sell their phones. I talked to the seller, and he/she said the technician wont teach them how to globalize the phone. They want to send them EVERY UNIT asking money just to remove the phone's Google restrictions. What a greedy way of thinking. Xda should bann those kind of people here .
The phone with google services could kill all past and future kai OS devices. The world deservers that upgrade to every over priced kai OS dumb phones to become not so dumb.

You need to learn to respect peoples wishes , no one ows you nothing , for start.
Because of the colture of over sharing , you got used that everyone will do the job for you.
do you agree that i can choose either to share or not , something i worked a big amount of time on? good.
now for the process , first unlock BL (there is a free solution mtkClient on github), then disable vb meta's signatures ( google that as well ), after that , you need to edit the super.img manualy ( search for super.img's tools , im sure youll find a few ) for removing the restrictions , because of android 11 copy.past restrictions within the device.
NOT A DUMB PHONE ANYMORE!
The portability, stealth ability, and simplicity of a dumbphone + all the apps of a smartphone with 4/64 max variants. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!
It came with bootloader unlocked, with magisk and with playstore but need to tweak a bit to fix the crappy T9 input and store certification which is not a big deal.
get it here, I vouched this store have it. BUY HERE

yes you are right but the foundation of knowledge how you learn to do that stuffs might be a collective contribution from the open free community just like this site. Did you write the program to unlocked it? Did you spent countless hours coding and debugging for the soulution? but yeah you have your own reasons and i will always respect and understand that. We all have our differences on opinions, values, ways, and traditions on how to do stuffs.
People buy the phone and what if the phone suddenlly crashed? the seller/company might not release aftermarket technical support for the phone leaving owners in the dark and potentially waste their money without a means to restoring it back to a working state.
thank you very much for the process.
