Anyone brave enough to try x premium recovery? - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

Was looking for a recovery solution and twrp doesn't support the x yet then i came across this http://giveawaytricks.in/root-insta...oth phones? Is anyone brave enough to try it?

It won't work. Just won't.
Normally doing so will result in a soft brick.

Did you try a USB jig before tearing apart your device?
Sent from my YP-G1 using xda premium
do usb-jigs always work? if they do then ill get one
also is there a specific one i need to get for the player?
When I had a hard brick, I did a bunch of searching, and the best thing I found was http://imgur.com/a/30Jjv .
Hope that helps! As a side note, there is an unbricking thread/program from a while back on these forums somewhere...

What happened when you had a hard brick? How did you fix it?
I tore my international version and found about the same things (can't remember so well). I want to look into it more when my holidays come around and see if we can apply unbrickable mod that adam has made possible for other phones
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA
I had the same symptoms you had, but I never got it to work (device not found in resurrector). So I returned it under warranty.

you guys think this jig will work?

well th usb jig i got did nothing, as i thought but now i tore it apart after some trouble but now what do i do? i see the battery but what hardware changes do i need to make to unbrick it????
There's JTAG, and if you give AdamOutler a high-enough resolution picture, maybe we could figure out how to apply the UnbrickableMod.
Sent from my YP-G70
If we could find manuals to the processor then we could easily do it ourselves even though i've never seen any. Besides Adam does a lot of other stuff.

[Q]Okay, so potential stupid question

so I odined my vzw note II back to stock using the alt tar package. It booted up fine, but then I rebooted back into recovery (stock android) and stupidly, or curiously... flashed the CWM Touch 6.0.32 recovery image in recovery, it attempted to reboot, but nothing. All I'm getting is a dim red light flashing everytime I try to boot my phone up. I've switched out the battery and still the same. btw, my battery was full when I did this. Potential brick? Or should I try to use a usb jig to get it it to boot back up and go into download mode?

This is most likely a brick but possibly just a soft brick. I did the same thing on my S3 and was able to get it back up and running using a jig and flashing the stock kernel in Odin.
Can you get to Download mode at all or does it just flash the red LED when you try to boot into recovery? I would at least try the jig before having it JTAG'ed cause there is at least a chance it'll work.

yeah, it doesn't turn on at all. Even being plugged in. It just flashes a red light for like a second and that's it. I can't get it to turn on for the life of me.
edit: any chance I can borrow that jig? lol.
You sure can, I made it myself. If you have any soldering skills I can send you the instructions if you would rather not wait on it to come thru the mail or if you live in Alabama I will meet you and give it to you.
There is also a page on XDA about USB jigs that has a list of people willing to loan theirs out, there may be one near you if you would rather not wait.
Its easy to make them though, all you have to do is have basic soldering skills, a micro USB end, and a resistor (which I believe was a 300k resistor, its been so long since I made it though the value could be off. I still have the supplies to make 10+ more though so I could look to make sure if you did go the route of making your own).
Either way its up to you, I can send you mine thru the mail or if you're game to build one I can send you the instructions.
Also the jig may not work, it depends on how badly bricked you are, but it worked so me when I did the exact same thing and had the exact same problem on my S3. You may have to get it JTAG'ed though, which I really hope you're able to fix it with a jig.

I'm going to bite my tongue about you flashing in stock recovery since you have learned your lesson with your situation at hand
You can order one from mobiletechvideos.com which is a reputable place. It's only $8. It says galaxy s, but it's listed under note2 products

$8 dollars is a little high seeing as how you can buy then for 5 on Amazon. Considering what goes into it $5 is almost to high.
And biting your tongue about flashing in stock recovery? If it had been the recovery zip he would have been fine, I've even made the mistake of flashing a tar.md5 in my recovery when I knew better simply because I wasnt paying enough attention to it because I wasnt at home and eas downloading it on my phone. It's an easy mistake to make of you're on the move and arent on a computer, especially when considering the TWRP update is either tar.md5 for Odin or a zip for your recovery. I thought I had seen CWM recovery flashable zips around on here but I may have been wrong seeing as how I dont use CWM anymore and dont keep up with it.
Also jigs are fairly easy to make seeing as all you have to have is a micro USB end and a 300k resistor. I bought the micro usb end that came with a shell for a cord and while there is a hole on one end it still looks better than having a hacked wire hanging around.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
Here are some pictures of the one I made. The hole on the end is because the shell was made for a wire to go out to another USB end but I just used the shell for this instead of having a hacked cord lying around or a wire running out of the opening and connecting to the resistor outside of plastic shell. Having the resistor out of the shell would be easier to short circuit whereas it is completely stable in the shell.
The little piece you see in the opening is the very end of the 300k resistor that is covered with heat shrink tubing so none of the metal is exposed. I'd you want to make your own you can follow the instructions from here:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/
The male micro USB ends I used I got off of eBay:
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=390363690475
They come from China and take a while to get here but you could just as easily get them from Digi Key
Also the 300k resistors I got off of Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/E-Projects-30...1369827313&sr=8-2&keywords=300k+watt+resistor
If you still want to use mine I will send it to you no questions asked, just let me know.

yeah, I hope to god it works though. Do you know of any JTAG/sd card unbrick for the i605? I emailed the seller about JTAG on the note II and he said it wasn't possible, they're using the sd card method, which I can't seem to find anything on unfortunately.
also, here's what i ordered:

That one should work fine, if it doesnt let me know and I will try to find you one that does.
As for the SD card JTAG I dont think that has worked since the 4.0 update on Samsung phones, I may be wrong on that though because I never messed with it. The only surefire way I know to JTAG a Samsung phone is to either buy a JTAG, which is around $150 and is called a RIFF box, or to send it to MobileTechVideos and get him to do it for $60.
There is a thread on XDA about using an SD card to JTAG an international S3 but im unsure if the software you had to load on the card is out for the Note 2.
The downside to doing it yourself is you have to take the phone apart and solder the wires to the JTAG contacts on the MoBo, on some phones you can make a piece out of breadboard so you dont have to solder the wires to the contact points on the MoBo but I dont know if you can do that with the Note 2.
If you went the route of getting it JTAG'ed you definitely need to send it to MobileTechVideos, he has been doing this for quite a while and is very very good at what he does.

Yeah, hopefully I won't have to go that route, but if I do I'm planning on sending it to mobo, and hopefully can get it back rather quickly. Guess we'll find out tomorrow... Which sucks, but what can you do? Hopefully, if you had the same problem on the s3 and a jig worked for you then it'll work for my note 2. Honestly I don't see how the hell flashing a recovery zip in stock recovery could brick me. I've never ever heard of it doing that.

[Q] Well. My curiousity led to a hard-bricked phone

Well. My curiousty led to a hard-bricked phone
It's definetly official. I am not going to install any more custom roms after this. To make my story breif. I aquired a motorola atrix 2 phone, and had read it could accomdate a custom rom, so I used a one click root method program and the program said it had done its job. I booted into the recovery and installed the rom, which ended in an infinite reboot. Great, so I read more on how to revert back to firmware using rsd lite. I did this, but the battery was dead. so I went out and purchased anther battery, attempted the restore, phone restart, then BOOM. it stayed black and now it wont come on. wtf.
Can any please recommend the proper cable I have to order to get the phone back working>?

Thank you. But an experienced repair guy said my phone wasn't responding to neither the USB jtag or the fast boot. So my phone is dead forever? Should I start digging its grave?
Sure sounds this way, and you shouldn't be doing JTAG through the USB port anyway unless your phone is something special I've never heard of
But in truth rooting your phone won't damage it, it just gives someone the opportunity to do so. I'm a firm believer in rooting all androids so long as they read and understand what they are doing, its very hard to brick a phone if you know what you're doing
So although this phone may be dead forever (unless you find someone who for sure knows the proper way to JTAG it) then still consider rooting your next one, just be sure to completely understand what's going on, and try to stay away from one click roots, its hard to learn anything from this
Best of luck on your next phone
*side note, if you still have warranty and your phone is completely unresponsive chances are you will get your warranty exchange, just play dumb and say "I was playing angry birds and it just froze, now it won't turn on"

I wish I had warranty on this thing. I got it second hand from craigslist. However i've managed to acquire an HTC inspire 4G, what an upgrade from a motorola cliq xt! I would love to install jelly bean on this thing but after messing up the Atrix 2 i'm scared I will F*ck this one up too. I can never find clear and concise instructions on the internet. Every web page I visit, it seems to be someones personal way of doing it. Steps not mentioned, or instructions written for intermediate users. For example, Every video or piece of instruction i've watched on youtube regarding booting into the fast boot on the atrix 2, said something about holding volume up and power button upon booting and I would see something on the top of the screen. However that did not work, First I had to use the volume down and power button, then I would get to this fastboot screen where those recovery options werent available, from there I had to hold both volume buttons down and press the power button twice which would bring me to the recovery options screen. thats just one example, and even then for some reasons I didn't have all the recovery options the instructions spoke of... for example. Very annoying and frustrating. On a side note, is there anyone on this site who lives in the US that can unbrick my atrix 2? The guy who repair phones I took it to said theres a device for 250.00 bucks he's waiting to get that can unbrick any device. However he doesnt have the funds and had gotten laid off work. I am just having a hard time believing a simple soft user error could permanently damage my device forever and that as sophiscated as our technology has gotten there's absolutely no way to revive it.

I can't attest to the videos you saw, but for most androids this is the best site with the most info, I only suggest being sure how to root before you do it, and to understand how the method works as well. When your not understanding this is when bricks happen.
I know it can be lots of reading and lots of questions but in the long run its worth the time
As for the JTAG equipment there are many who have it and you can easily spend less than 250 on getting the proper stuff.
Every logicboard is different so maybe this machine he speaks of has a wide variety of cables that come with it, but he's still paying too much
Anyway, most people seem to charge 50$ or so to JTAG it back, if that's more than the phone is worth to you just sell it on eBay for parts

Can you link me to clear and concise instructions on how to upgrade my 2.3.7 ( i think) to jellybean on an htc inspire 4g? and is there anyone here who can fix my phone that you know of?
HERE IS YOUR PHONES FORUM
you will find links to all the guides you need here, always read the stickies in each section, this tends to have the important info you need
then anything your not sure about should be asked in the proper place within this forum for the best answers
example, question on how to root should be asked in the how to root thread for best chance of a good answer, question on how to flash a new radio should be asked in a thread pertaining to this
im sorry but i dont know enough about your phone specificly to help further but hopefully the members in your device specific forum will
best of luck!

Did anyone hard brick their G2?

There are dozens of threads about "bricked" phones. It's not always clear if the OP(s) managed to recover.
Just out of curiosity. Did anyone manage to brick their phone? It seems like it's fairly difficult to do so.
if you break the ROM. use recovery, if recovery is broke, use lg recovery or flash tool, if that doesn't work then you did something wrong or hardware issues
So afaik no hard bricks
Since I own android phones, I have not hard brick any. If you hard brick an android phone, you should not own an android phone, you A. did not read instruction B. did not follow instruction C. think your smarter than the instruction by skipping it.
I thought as well that it's not that easy to brick the phone. I am comming from GNex, there were not that many threads from people asking how to recover, so I thought that maybe something is different with G2
There is a HUGE difference between hard brick and soft brick. Most people soft brick their devices and that is normally pretty easy to recover from(if you can get into recovery just restore back up, or just use the native tool from your hardware manufacturer). Most posts come from people who soft brick their devices and don't know how to recover from it. The people who hard brick normally flashed wrong kernels(from other phones) or were playing around with something they shouldn't have been playing with. I have owned a lot of phones (see my sig) and hacked every one of them(well... the ones that could be, the dumb phones didn't offer much for hacking) and have not hard bricked a single one. I have soft bricked some and some took all night to recover from but never hard bricked

True, the only case of a legitimate hard brick where the user wasn't at fault was back in the og EVO forums where an early/beta build of TWRP may have been able to corrupt/damage the nv partition. But of course even that was fixable, just out of the op's range of abilities.

Flashing kernel from another phone, not another variant of the same phone, right? Flashing D801 kernel on D802 is still recoverable? Just curious because I think, I've seen a thread where someone did it.
I have another question though. Does it mean that kernel developers are at constant risk of hard bricking their phones? Are there any other "safety" mechanisms available to them?

That really depends on the hardware of both models.. If they are the exact same you may be ok.. Just be careful when flashing and don't be the guinea pig and wait to here if there are any issues first

Zeki TBDG874B Factory Firmware Request

Hi All!
I;m searching for the factory firmware for the Zeki TBDG874B 8" tablet made by Gigabyte.
Calling Gigabyte for the firmware is like calling the butcher for strawberries, and Zeki is about as useless as teets on a bull.
I've been searching all morning and have come up with nothing.
Tablet will not boot, and important files (resumes and other documents) are stored on it.
It gets to the Zeki logo and thats it. Factory 3e recovery still works, but wipe data/factory reset just locks it up.
ADB won't connect either, so this is my last option.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Since there's been no action or reply on this thread, could an admin please delete it? I've given up on getting any help with this device.

This is incredible--I can't find anything on this specific tablet. I have the same issue where my tablet doesn't boot. It gets to the Android bootanimation but that's it. When I try to factory reset/wipe data, the device locks up just as yours days.
These Zeki tablets are trash--or at least the TBDG874B. I've found flashable zips for other devices, but not this one in particular...

I'm trying to contact another developer here who apparently has the firmware image.
The factory image is stored in the mtd6 partition, which I can't access since I've lost root access.
If I could figure out how to push something through sideload to regain root, I might be able to extract the original image.

Same happen to my friends tablet. No download mode, Adb doesn't work just says device closed or something similar and no firmware available.

If I could find someone with a working tablet, maybe I could walk them through the process of extracting the firmware?
Maybe help us all out?

I'd be interested in a firmware dump if you could get it. Is your tablet rooted or completely stock?

I've actually gotten mine to boot, just without the screen coming on. I was able to research and find other devices with the same motherboard and tried flashing their firmware.
Ainol makes devices with the same firmware revision, but they don't have an 8" model with 800x480 resolution, so the screen on mine won't even light up.

I've had some luck with getting to the nitty gritty of this old tablet. Using the Ainol firmware built for the batch 3 Crystal, I was able to get a working uboot and image installed, but I'm still trying to figure out what's actually missing from the build that would keep the display from coming on. It's practically the same hardware except the screen size, which the crystal uses a different display. Same Mali-400 GPU, same WiFi, same amount of memory, even the same Micron 8gb nand. I still don't have any factory image to work from, which would show me exactly what's different.
I CAN access some basic functions through adb, but only after flashing the firmware and leaving it on. Turning it off puts it right back in flash mode with no system installed.
I've got a lot more things going on in life to spend more than a couple hours with this thing, but I hope I get somewhere with it soon.

I've got a fresh tablet if I can help get that firmware
Where do you stand with getting a firmware dump. I have one of these tablets that went to the way of no longer booting or resetting etc etc and I have one that is still totally working. It is not rooted and in out of the box state and I doubt the owner hardly ever did any updates or anything. I'd like to play around with figuring out how to get this working so if I can be of assistance with my working tablet let me know.

Might as well dump it! Mine's still busted (and I got a much more reliable device to replace it), but a dump would still be greatly appreciated!
dang, nevermind..

my bad, I was thinking you meant that you had the factory ROM but after coming back and rereading your comment I realize you were talking about the tablet. I should have paid more attention bc I've read this thread b4, including your comment.
