Pokemon GO is detecting my phone as rooted when I definately unrooted it - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

I own an Honor 5x, which I used to have rooted running a TWRP recovery and SuperSU. I wanted to update my phone to marshmallow, but it was an OTA update so i had to unroot and go back to the original bootloader. I did everything needed and got my phone upgraded to marshmallow, and was then hoping i could play pokemon go, but for some reason i am getting the error where it says the game does not support my device, the exact same one that i got when i was rooted. i double checked that i was unrooted by downloading literally every single root checking app on the play store, and all of them have classed my phone as unrooted. i dont want to root my phone again as i have nox for rooted stuff now, and it was a hassle extracting th e recovery.img from the update file as noboby else had it, so i was wondering someone here could help me
thanks in advance!:good:

OTA update does not wipe the entire phone, you need to download the full update and manually wipe your phone and install the Full update to totally remove SuperSu.
You could also uninstall SuperSU from the apps settings before taking the OTA to avoid this problem

So what should I do now, I had already downloaded the update thinking it would fix it. I guess I try to manually uninstall it, seeing as the supersu app has already gone?

Two possible ways imo...
If you don't want to root then
Extract and manually flash stock boot.img, Cust.img and system.img and you are good to go without any data loss (but make a backup to be sure if something goes wrong).
Second is to root your phone, and use an app like 'hide my root' to hide your root from Pokemon go and you are good to go.
The third is to root and unroot using the inbuilt function of SuperSU.

[Q] Pushed OTA KitKat update continues to eat up my data!

I really like the way my OneMax w/verizon is and am not really interested in updating. The automatic firmware downloads is eating up my data daily. I just accepted to install it so it would stop, but it won't install due to error (it's a rooted device). I have S-Off on the phone right now and used the SuperSu unroot feature to try and let the update do it's thing just so it would stop downloading. Now, the root checker apps say I'm not rooted (but i think i still am). I tried the virtuous manual stock update but it gives me a installation aborted message while in recovery mode. Any help would be appreciated!
I think you need to have stock recovery & stock rom installed to accept the ota.

you only need to have stock recovery installed AND 100% stock system files. no system mods whatsoever.
assuming you enabled USB debugging under the developer options on the phone....you may need to update your version of adb/fastboot.
The root question....are you s off? If so that question is irrelevant as you only need to flash a custom recovery and flash the latest su zip from there to root any ROM...even the stock ota.

Yeah I have S-off on the phone. I will update the ADB version and retry. I don't know why I thought the su would be able to do a one-click unroot. All it ended up doing was just confusing me. I'm new to rooting and flashing, and it's fun figuring these things out. You guys are really helpful around here. I'll look for a tutorial on how to flash a custom recovery.

Root/ TWRP OTA updates

I uninstalled the "system updates" file from my phone. It's a blue android icon & 3.4mb in size. Another forum somewhere discussed this and I believe that should work. I used an app called system app remover(pro) - it has a recycle bin and holds apps in there for you in case you need/want to re-install them later. Any root app delete should work just fine though.

You can freeze the update app, but an OTA won't work anyway with a custom recovery.

G3 Update

I just received a Android update in my notification menu. I am rooted and running a custom recovery (twrp). I know I cannot accept the update but I can't swipe it away. Anyone know how I can get the update removed from my notification menu?
Have you tried long pressing on the notification and disabling notifications?
I froze system update in ti backup I didn't have a pending update but I would try that

Thanks for the thumbnail. I did find it in TB and froze it but I'm still getting the update notification in my notification pull down.
Did you restart the phone after
that may work
Don't know if this will work or not, but on the Galaxy S3 the way to stop getting nagged about an OTA was to edit build.prop and replace all references to the old ROM with the new one. So you could try making a backup of build.prop, then edit all references to ZV4 and change them to ZV6. Save the file, make sure permissions are set to rw-, r--, r-- (0644), and reboot.
I would strongly suggest making a nandroid backup first.
Here's how I have been doing it:
1. Download Autorun Manager
2. In settings under advanced enable view services
3. Go to Google Services Framework and disable update...see below.
At your own risk if you decide to try it, of course.

This is the recommended way. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57182591
If the update has already downloaded. Disabling the OTA still wont get rid the the notification. Easy way to get rid of it is long press it and go to app info. This will take you to Google Play Services. Simply uncheck show notifications and the system update in the pull down notifications will go away.
Just a temporary fix to get it out of the way. I reccommend just downloading a ZV6 rooted rom.

I have a question that I wanted to ask before I go any further. I bought a G3 last week, rooted it and installed twrp recovery, and have done multiple backups.. Had a hardware defect so I had to exchange my phone for another new one. I received a system update just now so I was going to accept the OTA update since its not rooted, completely stock. My questions are will I be able to root and instally twrp after this update and once I install all my apps, and if rooting and installing twrp is successful, can I restore my backup that I did on my other phone, even though its a different phone? Its from the same carrier and same model phone. Thanks for your feedback.

Don't take OTA. Root it and TWRP it. Then flash STOCK ROM ZV6 Deodexed or Odexed, then you'll be up to date and keep root with TWRP.

b150 stock pokemon

before u do any of the steps format data factory restore.
first download this file https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862715727 once your done extract with winrar 7zip what ever u use.
then put backup in ur twrp folder on ur sdcard in the backup folder with the rest of your backups
then goto restore find the backup select it
swipe to restore wait for it to finish
you might have a boot loop dont worry
if all went well then u should be on b150 stock with pokemon able to be played.
don install super user or it wont be stock and pokemon wont work.
and hit the thanks button if this helped you and if u feel generous hit the donate button

Thanks for this ROM.
For those wondering, pogo is still able to detect root if you flash SuperSU and then try to hide with rootswitch. This method worked fine for the factory stock b130 but does not work with the ROM in this thread. Good luck.

This ROM works perfectly fine with pogo if u don't flash SuperSU as you stated. Rootswitch is an app that attempts to hide root from pogo. I tested with your room here by flashing supersu and using rootswitch. Rootswitch was unable to hide root for this ROM but it worked for b130 factory stock.
It might have been user error on my part but I will try with magisk later to see if that works. I'd like to get a bebloated b150 ROM with Xposed like I did with b130 and still be able to run pogo. Just not quite there yet.

Magisk wouldn't work for me to play pogo I want to try your way.
What verison are you on? Did you use magisk for systemless Xposed? Do you have a link for suhide and Root switch?
everything should work being this is a pure stock no root. but if u want root to work u gotta ask in the right thread. for those who want unrooted version im gonna remove bloatware and remake the stock to be clean stock sorta like the barenaked rom but im gonna go through all the files remove anything that wont break the os. as well might try replacing stock phone app and launcher and some other stuff atm though my focus is on custom roms i posted this for those who want it

Here you go >> B150.Stripped.Stock.Rom
Also here's the Full B150 Stock unrooted bootable Rom >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634759585
simple flash it like any Rom for this phone and you'll have a Full Stock B150 unrooted device
Note: using this rom doesn't mean you can skip flashing the B150 firmware ... you need to already be on B150 firmware or you'll have no Wifi
If you want to use pokemon go with xposed, only do so at your own risk. It slows down the phone slightly, as noted in the suhide thread.
With the usual systemless root,
Flash Systemless Xposed: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3897543&d=1475913773 (Use ONLY this version)
Flash suhide 0.55: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3899940&d=1476133126
Install xposed material design apk: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=21776&task=get
Install rootswitch apk: https://www.asus.com/zentalk/tw/for...ZGY3MTc3fDE0Nzc0MjUyOTR8MHwxNzM1NDI=&mobile=2
Install all the modules you want and get them configured/setup/enabled. open root switch and check toggle usb debugging and stop all su daemon. then toggle root off. xposed modules will still work and pokemon go can be used. I may need to edit this because I am typing it quickly and from memory.
if you want just root to work with pokemon go, I succesfully used magisk v12 with magisk hide. Restore stock boot img and flash magisk zip. Then setup the magisk hide in magisk manager. Don't install any xposed stuff and pokemon go will function. This is assuming you are starting with a fresh rom... otherwise you will need to remove root and all that jazz.
question:
If I pulled my Build.prop and edited it to change a few things (Like removing softkeys) and pushed it back will that stop Pokemon Go from working? Or does Pokemon Go only look to see if the phone has been rooted.

[GUIDE] Root Samsung Galaxy J1 Verizon SM-J100VPP

I got this device used and it had been updated to the newest firmware. It would not work with Kingroot, Framaroot, SRS, or Kingo. The only option was to attempt to downgrade to an older firmware with unpatched exploits. The Verizon J1 has a locked bootloader so it cannot flash full firmware packages with older bootloaders. Luckily it can be downgraded to older firmware of the same android version with older kernel. I just had to unpack the firmware and remove the bootloader and repack. I tried to make a rooted stock firmware but can't seem to repack the system.img.ext4 properly after mounting it.
Now let's get down to business
1. Download Odin 3.09
2. Download modified (by me) rootable firmware. Do not rename file it might mess up md5sum.
3. Boot phone to download mode. Hold power+vol down+ home.
4. Start Odin and connect phone with original factory sync cable.
5. Click on the AP button and select the firmware downloaded above. It will check the md5sum automatically when it finishes and passes then press the start button. Once the flash finishes it will reboot.
6. Enable usb debugging.
7. Download Kingoroot for PC (google) and let it run. The apk will not work to root. It should install drivers automatically.
8. Profit!!
I'm testing a method to reliably switch to Supersu but having trouble updating binary 100% of the time. I've tried to flash exposed but Flashfire doesn't seem to work properly with this device. If anyone can suggest a workaround please share.
OP, is it okay if I don't have original factory sync cable in hands?

If u want to switch to SuperSu from KingoROOT, the best and easiest method would be backing up ur phone and performing a soft reset. Afterwards simply install SuperSu, the superuser binary is already installed from kingroot - no worries, just update it normally via SuperSU and disable KNOX after the update is complete.
That switch idea of yours might get you bricked
Confirmed it works now we need a recovery so we can just flash su
SuperSUme works really really well lol, this phone is 32bit only any1 wanna try 4 a recovery?
Thxx bro
I've tried porting a few times from the j100h twrp and keep getting a return to Verizon dealer screen. So I'd assume the bootloader is still locked. Im going to try the old safestrap and see if i can't get that working. But im kinda a noob so I'll do my best.
p.s. Don't try flashing any recovery until you backup your current one with rashr or flashify.BE SAFE.btw I've yet to see supersume actually work but hey it could happen. I'd much rather just flash the su from a recovery.

Agreed about flashing the recovery, but you need to be rooted with KingOroot to get SuperSUme to work, & it helps to just keep the screen timeout turned off thru this process , after it says "complete" I downloaded SuperSU & installed, updated, "disabled" knox, & I can also use flashfire although its pretty worthless for anything other than backups, as the little AROMA shell emulator thingy does run after the verizon logo is showing, which indicates to me yea its locked down pretty solid lol.
I tried Safestrap & it gave me a /SS folder in my /etc so I looked into that but I can't manage to figure out how I should go placing the files to make it work lol. But i do know this thing is 32bit ONLY, so compiling the j100H twrp for instance will NOT flash no matter what we do to the bootloader, it will bootloop since the architecture is for a 64bit SoC, we need someone to compile the j100H twrp in a 32bit only compatible architecture, & then you can easily flash it like cake, & TWRP should do the rest like all other Samsung phones O.O
its gotten to the point these are all the apps I have when i restore haha, if you wanna PM me about working together to get this thing a little more flexible I'm always open to ideas . I only use this thing as a hotspot but would totally like to see a recovery at least make it over & from there I could definitely start the ROM bringup
