Clean Unroot Help - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I have an old rooted Note 3 that I gave to my child to play Pokemon Go on. With their latest update, they've banned rooted phones from playing the game. Very frustrating.
In any case, I unrooted my phone via SuperSU#, but the game's still not working. I tried to do a system update, but it says the device is "modified in an unauthorized way."
So I guess I'll have to re-root, flash a stock ROM, then unroot again? Will this work? Where can I find the latest unmodified ROM? I don't even remember how to root! This was over three years ago. Grrrrrrr.
Any advice much appreciated.

Downloading a stock ROM that I think I need to flash (six hour download).
But I need to re-root first, so I can flash the stock ROM I'm downloading, right? Does anyone know if I re-root then flash the stock ROM and then unroot, will I still get the "modified in an unauthorized way" notification under System Update?
BTW, I downloaded a Knox checker from Google Play, and I've tripped it. NAUGHTY! (Don't care, it's an old phone, but I hope that doesn't effect Pokemon Go playability.)

is this true????? for ota?

all you really need to accept an OTA is to be on a relatively un-modded stock rom,and have the stock recovery.
as long as you meet those criteria, the OTA will happen. it will break root, and it will bring back all your deleted/frozen system apps, but its no biggie.
htcdev is somewhat like "s-off" in that you will always be able to re-root extremely easily by launching a recovery, and reflashing your superuser root files.
no need to relock,no real need to try and "preserve" your root with apps,as htcdev is not an exploit that is going to disapear.
when i first got my rezound, the OTA snuck in on me,and went without issue.
while you will have to re-freeze or delete system apps that come back, your other personal data, settings, and user apps will be safe and intact.
trying to take an OTA while running a custom recovery will NOT work. the results range from a simple failed OTA,a recoverable bootloop,or even a partially installed OTA wich will result in a non-functional rom. so again, make sure youre running the stock recovery.
hope that helps

Note no longer rooted after ICS update

Got my Note the day that the local ATT store had it in stock. Rooted it the next day with Odin with no problems. I updated to the official ICS this morning but now its no longer rooted. I am sure there is a simple fix, and mabye I have become delerious in my frantic search for a solution, but everything I have tried thus far has not worked. Obviously I was probably supposed to return to stock before updating. Any lamens termed help would be appreciated. This is the third phone I have rooted, but I dont keep up with this stuff after I get them rooted.
Thanks in advance!
Root it the same way you did before. First you need to install clockwork through odin. Then install SU through CWM.
Unless I missed a step, Odin gave me the "Fail" indicator.
You are not mixing up the CWM tar and the Superuser zip are you?

[Q] Rooted & Getting Erro when trying to upgrade to Mi1

Really new to this. I did the verizon root methed for ME7. It says can't complete upgrade. Do I need to unroot in order to upgrade to MI1? If so, how do I do that?

You don't need to unroot, but you do need to have the device in a stock condition. If you've debloated and removed stuff, or frozen apps, then the upgrade will likely fail.
I wouldn't be in any rush to install MI1.
Had same problem, now soft bricke my phone and need help

I was in the same position trying to accept the update from ME7. I had re-downloaded the stock apps and was in the process of converting them to system apps when my phone froze. When I tried to reboot I could not get passed the Verizon screen. I have been trying to read about how to fix this but I am unable to get odin to recognize my phone. I have downloaded the Samsung drivers and tried every version of odin but nothing happens when I put my phone into download (odin) mode and connect it with odin open. The rest of the steps seem easy if I could just get it to see my phone. Any thoughts, going on 3 days with no phone.

Help OTA keeps failing

Im on MI1 and it won't allow me to install the new OTA. Keeps failing. Ive reset my phone, odined to the original stock and still the OTA fails. Help please
@kiilajoe are you still rooted? I had to unroot before it would take. I also had to completely remove SS. Not sure if you have recovery installed or not. There are a few people saying that OTA service is unavailable at this time as well. Update has not shown up in Kies yet so that is not an option. Not sure if a emergency recovery would work for you or not but could give it a try also. When you went back to stock did all the native apps reinstall. I had to go through MyApps in play store and manually install everything prior to upgrade.

You can ODIN back to stock 4.2.2 with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484726 its non destructive so it will not wipe your device. However you will lose root. Then you can take the OTA with out issue.

[Q] NC5 root, updates and backup questions

I am giving two VZW GS4's to my parents for Christmas and I would like to make things as simple as possible for them, which means getting rid of all the boatware that Verizon/Samsung includes. I'm familiar with rooting/flashing etc. with my Sprint GS4, but I am still somewhat bewildered by all the info regarding the VZW phones and all the different versions.
These VZW phones are on the NC5 baseband (?) and if I understand correctly they can be rooted with towelroot but cannot install a custom recovery because the bootloader is locked.
Once I root, will the phone still receive OTA updates and install properly, or will there just be a continual message saying that the update failed?
I don't plan on trying to install a custom ROM, but if I understand correctly the only way to do so is by using safestrap?
Is it possible to backup the phone, similar to a ROM backup in TWRP for example? Will I be able to return to a full stock state after root? In other words, after I root what happens if I do a factory data reset?
Thanks in advance.

1. You are correct. The nc5 can only be rooted. The bootloader is not unlocked or even possible to workaround; safestrap is your only option.
2. Once you root, your phone will not be stock anymore so OTAs will not work. You must unroot and restore your phone back to stock in order to update via OTA. However, if you learn how to use ODIN, your life will become much easier.
3. Safestrap is the only way.
4. You can backup with Safestrap. Yes you will be able to return back to a full stock state using ODIN. If you use ODIN to factory reset, your phone becomes back to stock i.e. unrooted.

Thanks. One more question: Once rooted, if I stay on the stock rom, will the phone still receive OTA update notifications (even though it will fail install)?
I'm a little familiar with odin so I should be able to go back to full stock if necessary.

Yes, unfortunately, you will receive constant update messages. However, if you are rooted, you can stop these messages. Download an app called "titanium Backup" and freeze fwupdate.apk. That specific app is what causes all the update messages to appear.
