Kenxinda Three Proofings W9 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just purchased a Kenxinda Three Proofings W9 (also known, in Malaysia I think, as the Kenxinda Flattop W9).
It is a 6" ruggedised smartphone that cost approx $350 Australian Dollars, (or a bit over $300USD.)
The phone seems excellent, except that it contains some malware from the factory.
Lookout finds:
HTMLViewer - App Dropper.Android.shedun-main.ad
Kaspersky finds:
not-a-virus:HEUR:AdWare.AndroidOS.Xynyin.I - SystemFQAD kenxinda.apk
Malwarebytes finds:
Android/Trojan.Sivu.c - /system/priv-app/HTMLViewer/HTMLViewer.apk
The shop I purchased it from are happy to refund me, which I will do if I cannot get a resolution.
Kenxinda don't seem to want to help me.
I have tried various apps to try and root the phone, (using a dummy google account on a freshly reset phone, so as not to risk my personal data) such as Kingroot, Kingoroot, One Click Root 2 and Towelroot.
I know nothing else about android rooting/hacking, but I do know the basics of linux.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to fix this, (with minimal risk of bricking the phone) or should I just send the phone back for a refund?
Thanks
EDIT: Never mind, I sent the phone back for a refund today.

I have bought W9 two days ago, checked with Kaspersky and found nothing suspicious.
I have no /system/priv-app/HTMLViewer/HTMLViewer.apk and /system/priv-app/HTMLViewer
But I bought on AliExpress, and maybe you should better to change smartphone.
BTW I have no idea how to root it too. But I used to do it to get line call record, but W9 can do it with no root, I'm happy now! )))

KingRoot is generally the best for this type of phone. It is best to use the PC version available at XDA here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461, and at the web home site: https://kingroot.net/
You can remove KR after rooting and install SU if you wish (I do this).
Generally I root to remove the bloatware, trial apps and non root system apps. I then add in my paid apps for the system, such as the JRummy Root Browser and Call Blocker, then make them system apps.
What is the list of bloatware and trial apps included with the phone?
Can you test the capacity of the battery and confirm the claim of 4000mAh capacity?
What functions does the Notification LED support?
I'm considering this or the W8 as a purchase....:fingers-crossed:

What a shame, I did some investigating on this ADWARE and it is not that difficult to to remove. This was good information for me should I purchase a phone and this apk installer is loaded into the OS.
Actually, my 1st red flag would be a new phone purchase that is pre-rooted, this would be alarming to me as someone messed with the OS. The good thing is, you can do a factory reset in most case's and the offending apk will be deleted. You will also loose root, you have to reinstall SU.
In some case's the offending apk can just be deleted without a system reset, its the more involved, rooted and moved to system apk that is the problem.
Read about this BS app installer installed by Chinese RESELLERS, not the actual manufactures.

1. Kaspersky found only one AdWare, DrWeb and other foun nothng.
2. Seems to me it is really 3500-4000, because I have 30% battery after one day, Its good for 6'
3. Only for charging status and new messages.
But, I have serious issue with GPS, I have very weak GPS signal level. In comparison with Samsung S4 (10-12 satellites with 20-30 lvl) W9 have only 3-4 satellites with 15-20 lvl. Therefore I can’t use navigations programs, I got always “GPS Searching”. I have disassembled phone, and seems to me GPS antenna is a piece of siht.

I am pretty sure the phone wasnt rooted when I received it, several apps told me it wasnt, and I tried deleting some apps through the menu, and couldnt (but I never tried using a terminal). Of course, that doesnt mean the phone wasn't rooted at some point during the supply chain after it left the factory.
I tried a factory reset and these apk's remained installed and the AV programs still detected them.
To be honest, after "AlexDem"'s report of not having the malware, I am half-tempted to try ordering another one from somewhere else. I liked the phone otherwise. However the GPS issues are concerning - i dont remember testing the GPS. However my discussions with the Kenxinda sales rep were not all that encouraging, he seemed to admit the malware was there, but dismissed it as being a minor problem. But maybe that was just his limited english wording it wrong, he may not have meant that their actually is factory installed malware.

Somebody opened up the OEM rom, installed the apk, flashed it to the phone. This is why it was persistent when resetting to factory.
This may be why you had the problem with removing it.
This or the W8 will be my next purchase.
I just had delivery of the vPhone X3, it came with 2 bad IMEI's. They are 356666666666666\8 ... This is invalid as an IMEI here in Canada.
Also, at http://www.protectyourdata.ca/en/check-the-status-of-your-device-in-canada/ they both come up as "Your Device has been Reported As Lost Or Stolen'. Consequently the phone cannot be operated here in Canada by any of the networks.
These generic IMEI's supplied are generally used when a good IMEI is removed for a stolen phone and the generic one is installed as the swap-out replacement.
It has a 3200mAh battery, not the 4500mAh as advertised.
It uses 10mm mUSB rather than the regular 6mm.
It uses 19mm earphone plugs not the regular 14mm.
None of my headphones or USB cables will work with the phone.
Did you have any of the the USB or earphone issues with the W9?

Im pretty sure it was standard USB, however, the rubber casing did prevent one of my usb cables from plugging into it. Another of mine fitted fine.
Never tried the headphone jack. I sent the phone back.
I contacted another shop, China Vision, with the intention of maybe purchasing one, and they very nicely told me the following, after a few emails back and forward: "They are from the same supplier and I think it may have this malware issue" - This, combined with what the Kenxinda sales rep said, I wouldnt touch the phone.

1 Answer, 1 Question ....

GPS antenna's can be made from fine wires that are twisted and glued into place.
http://nikospavlakisphotography.blogspot.ca/2016/01/thl-5000-and-gps.html
An antenna mod may also be a copper sticky larger than the original that would accomplish the same thing as the wire mod.
This isn't really isn't a difficult mod as it appears you have lots of room to work with.
There is also a software fix, you need to dump the GPS cache and reload the GPS data, specifically for your location, then it should work better.
I would try the software fix 1st before the hardware mod.
Please answer me this, what length is the headphone plug, the standard 15mm or the longer 19mm?

I've been doing malware and virus removal for over 10 years with Windows and Android (Linux) now.
Of the 2 systems, android is the easiest to clean and repair as its a socially engineered application. Rarely is it factory installed and even so if it is, once rooted you can, once again, easily delete the offending app.
If the offending app is installed with the recovery, you must flash a cleaned ROM to the phone so wen you do a Factory Reset, the offending app doesn't show up again.
Easy Peasy ....

Easy except I have no way of obtaining a clean rom. Kenxinda wouldnt give me one.

OK, so you have to do this from scratch.
Once discovering the location of the of the offending app ( generally: system>app or system>priv-app) you make note of it.
You would have to do a back up of the ROM with the NVRAM, open up the ROM, remove the offending app, zip it up then flash it over the sh##ty ROM.
A little bit longer but not more complicated, just 2 more steps to learn.

15 mm, see photo, but I use Samsung headphone, because sound is better.
BTW, You should use Headphone with jack diameter less than 6 mm, because jack must fit with hole in smartphone. You can't use headphones with L-type jack.

Guys, I have firmware from Ginzzu RS97D, this is another name of Kenxinda W9 on Russian market. Ginzzu support told, than there is new firmware.
Maybe this is new android (6.0 - who knows?) with no malware and GPS fix, I really don't know. I can't update it right now, and next week too. If you have curiosity, try to do it at you own risk.

Just a rebranding of the same garbage?
This way Kenxinda can distance themselves from the malware issue and claim that the rebrander did this.
Spend a bit more and get a Xperia or Samsung, even a Cat C60. Then you wont have to cry later on. Also, buy from a proper inhouse reseller, not eBay or AliExpress that hosts resellers.
If you cant find the ROM at ReedRom or the manufacturer wont provide it, then don't buy it, as there is no way to reflash the stock ROM should you need it.
Not releasing/providing your ROM is highly suspicious.

They seem to be going under a few names, there is an identical (I think) product called the MFox A10 Pro, which is quite a bit dearer. https://www.chinavasion.com/china/w...es/MFOX-A10-Pro-Military-Standard-Smartphone/

I wont buy a phone that the ROM is not available. Under the Linux Open Source Licensing and the Google Licensing Agreements, you have to publish the ROM.
Any company that doesn't do this is hiding something from the pubic, such as pirated or unlicensed software included or, in this case, malware in the ROM.
RUN! ... DON"T WALK, in the other direction..........

I have tried to download ginzzu rs97d firmware to Kenxinda W9, everything is Ok, GPS fixed and touchscreen works better.

Kenxinda is, possibly, a rebranded factory 2nd?!
Kenxinda is, possibly, a rebranded factory 2nd, this is the distinct feeling I get after viewing the GiNZZU site.
GiNZZU has over 20 service outlets in the Russian Federation, Kenxinda has 1 place to get help ... https://www.facebook.com/Kenxinda.Malaysia/?! ... You would be better off to buy a GiNZZU.

***EDIT***
Kenxinda Malaysia refused to release the ROM, they insisted I send it in for repair to a service center.
***EDIT***
Kenxinda Malaysia has promised to send me a link when they receive it from the manufacturer.........Hmmmmm, 4 days ago.
***EDIT***
Kenxinda does not manufacture the phone, they had to request the ROM and wait for it from the manufacturer. Then they sent me a link for it, the link was only valid to December 5th, the W8's ROM is posted at NeedRom with the W9 ROM from GiNZZU.
I suspect this is a rebranding of the GiNZZU line of phones from the Russian Federation. This GiNZZU line has a really well developed service outlet chain, over 20 locations. Kenxinda on the other hand ... ? ... I haven't found one to date! Kenxinda kept repeating themselves...'Send it back to the supplier for service', which is impossible because I'm in Canada and most resellers are in China, do the shipping math, its cheaper to buy a new phone. Regardless, Kenxinda doesn't have service centers, they have resellers.

I am planing to get the GiNZZU RS97D / Kenxinda W9 but i need root, maybe someone can test if you can root it with this

[Q] My 3rd 80 G9 in less than a year, how's yours?

I just received my 3rd tablet in the mail today under warranty. The first one became unresponsive to the touch screen and since it was in the Texas morning sun I thought it was my fault and bought another. The 2nd one did the same thing 4 months later even though I had taken extreme care with it, I sent this one back to the factory. I had rooted both tablets and was running versions of ICS from this site. Neither was overclocked although I do have the software to do that. I'm thinking I should stay with stock OS for a while and see if the 3rd time is the charm.
Anyone else have their tablet just mysteriously stop responding for no apparent reason? Other than the screen, everything else worked including mail and internet; I just could not unlock it to read anything.

Hi There
My touch screen stop working months ago!! I'm pretty sure it's a loose connection, If I build a fresh android from source and squeeze the top of the tab It sometimes comes back to life, I should have really sent it back but I've got a heavily modified version of adb that allows me to easily send input to it and I just plug a keyboard and mouse into a usb hub. I had another one that had "ghost touches".
I found the screen doesn't seem to like temperature changes and would get very cold to the touch If had it in my bag when travelling and really the build quality is terrible but It doesn't move off my desk as it is used only for development and I'm too lazy to send it back. meh!
With regard roms. if you were using stock rooted then the only difference between them and the stock is su, and extra busybox, everything else is as archos intended there shouldn't be anything detrimental in there. If you don't need root for anything then you might as well use stock.
--Thanks for the feedback. If someone gets Jellybean 4.1 operating for this tablet, I will root it again.
I'm on my second. Three first one had a problem worth the screen where it became greyscale soon after I started playing a youtube video. The first time it happened, I was somehow able to get it working again. The second time, I tried reloading the OS (honeycomb at the time) and resetting to factory settings and was unsuccessful.
I sent it back to QVC and got a replacement under warranty. I haven't had any problems with this one. I dropped it when getting into my car. The back came loose, but it easily snapped back into place with nothing but a few scratches on the side where it hit.
Sent from my ARCHOS 80G9 using xda app-developers app
If my second dies, I'm getting a refund, not a replacement.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'm on my two original tablets. Both have been dropped. My sons a lot, mine took its first spill the other night. Popped it right on the corner with the kickstand. There is a small crack where the small screw is under the stand. Its causing the stand to pop open easy. Other than that the hardware is working perfectly.

So my replacement tablet is still working well, so now I want to root it again. The latest Archos firmware makes it a *****. Would it be better to use the console and reset the tablet before rooting?
I had three 101G9 tablets, each with separate faults.
When I sent the last one back they upgraded me to a 101XS ... which has a faulty touchscreen!
I won't buy an Archos tablet again.

I've got several Archos tablets, and overall... and oddly... I've had very few problems with any of them other that some bad firmware upgrades or a few bad apps (including some of Google's own stuff) that eventually got fixed. I guess I've been just lucky somehow with all of my G9's being older ones with only 512M RAM (which is a bit sad because I know 1G RAM would increase performance).
The MAJOR problem I've had all started when Archos released the newer 4.0.2x firmware releases. Had to find out how to install rooted stock 4.0.7 to get a usable device again.
I will agree though, that if Archos wants to being totally idiotic with their firmware and REFUSES to provide a clean way back to a previous firmware (that actually works)... well, I too will NEVER be buying any new Archos device. Only way I would buy another Archos is *IF* it was a G9 model and I was absolutely certain that it did not come shipped with firmware higher than 4.0.7. Otherwise, forget Archos completely!

I put in rooted 4.0.7 last night, than 4.0.28. Some odd things happening like games dropping out and unable to find wi-fi when moved to a different network unless I reboot the tablet. If this continues it's back to 4.07 for me.

The really sad part is that if you have ever installed ANY of the 4.0.2x official firmware is that even when trying to go back to a 'rooted' 4.0.7 there are a bunch of leftovers that just don't clear out. I've done some seriously drastic things like AFTER installing rooted stock 4.0.7 of going back with ADB and deleting several syestem/app files and the dalvick-cache... and then doing some of that a second time again. Even then though there still does seem to be some odd things left that ARE NOT part of the official Archos 4.0.7 firmware.
If you are interested send me a PM, otherwise it's really too hard to explain what I'm talking about (and might not even make sense in any reply I send you).
Anyway, as far as "I" am concerned, Archos just tried to screw up as many of the G9 tablets they could with the 4.0.2x firmware simply to try to FORCE people to buy their newer G10 tablets (which DO NOT WORK RIGHT either). Kind of the same STUPID attitude several other companies had before.... "Oh, that don't work, buy this one then".... Only real difference is THAT IDIOTIC APPROACH to marketing failed for the other companies... yet, Archos seems to 'think' they can still keep doing it.
In short, SIMPLY DO *NOT* BUY ANYTHING FROM ARCHOS! Some people wonder why most of the world hates the French, but Archos keeps giving more reasons to NOT TRUST a company based in France. The Archos G9 tablets COULD have become a world leader, but for whatever reason Archos decided they would rather kill of as many of a 'good thing' as they could just to push other even worse devices on the market... something to do with EVERYONE (mostly morons) that absolutely wanted Jelly Bean (and I'm not going to buy any new Android device with that worthless crap). So I'm not only done with Archso, but also any newer Android device... never wanted, still don't want, and never will want the crap Google is trying to turn the Android OS into.
After all, *IF* I wanted a device with a dozen apps that are constantly sending info back... well, I might just as well go with a Windows 8 device (since I know my Windows computers are already sending all kinds of feedback to Microsoft as it is, Google is trying to go BEYOND what Microsoft has already been doing for years.).
In other words... all *I* want is a device that actually works, NOT ONE THAT SPENDS ALL OF ITS TIME REPORTING EVERYTHING I DO BACK TO SOMEBODY ELSE. And don't give me any of the bogus 'anonymous' nonsense because EVERY device has a certain device number, and EVERY internet connection has an IP address. As soon as you register a device or set up an e-mail address THEY KNOW. And, Google is going FAR BEYOND what anyone should ever allow them to know about (your location, what websites you view, what your interests are, etc.).
Fingers crossed but I haven't had _any_ HW quality issues with my G9 80 8GB 1GB. I've tried most of the ROMs available and have noticed that every now and then it makes things a lot easier if I just completely format the device and re-install stock using a .aos file.

Thinking about doing the same thing as it wigs out sometimes and goes real slow.
Mine is crap. Battery blew up like a capri sun pouch just after the warranty expired, archos wants $77 to fix it. This is after I gave them a second chance when my 70 quit charging and they wanted $125 to fix that. Not even so much as a "sucks to be you", when i told them the story of their own products, they just reply with their repair costs. ill never touch their products again

I had planned on keeping it as a spare, but have decided if it dies on me a DNR order is in effect.
They sent me a new device
I leave here the last reclaim on the archos support
Hello, I´ve received a new device to replace the first one that I Had, all the info in RET-XXXXXXXXXXX, but the new device came with several problems:
Ram memory 465 mb !!!!???
Processor- ARMv7 Processor rev 3 (v7l)!!??? 1.2 MHz!!!!!
And a build/Fabric defect on de screen, that when you shake the device a water bubble seems to appear and ruins the image that is showing.
I do have photos of proof of all the defects, including a video with the water bubble showing when shaking.
I also sense that it is working a lot slower then the first one I had, for that went to check the real system info....and bad news came along.
Request a immediate re-change of the product, for one that has the specific system info that I paid for. 1 GB Ram, 1.5 dual core processor, Mali 400 GPU , and a screen without any defect!
Tank you
Regards
PS: I can send you the photos and videos of the problems encountered, just send me a email.
Call Tech Support immediately and tell them what you are seeing. They will run you through several tests and then send you a new unit.

[Q] Lost volume in right channel

Hi All
I tried to find the answer, in vain.
For the last few weeks the volume of the right channel has nearly disappeared. I have 95% on the left and 5% on the right.
I use the original software in it.
I was looking for a balance button but can't see any.
The warranty run out two weeks ago.
Any thing I could do to restore its volume.
I tried different headphones, no changes.
Thanks
TA
Replace jack; fairly sure there's a detailed run through (with pics/parts needed) in the service manuals for the phone which have been posted here in the past (do an XDA or Google search). Or pay a local mobile repair shop to do it if you're not confident enough.

Is it an expensive task to do? I don't see myself doing it nor have the tools for the job.
Don't know/don't know exactly what parts are required (but remember seeing the run through in the manuals). It's fairly obvious it's a hardware issue, and as it's happening with headphone/headset, logic says you replace the jack first. Obviously if you're paying someone else to do that, it becomes expensive due to the cost of labour.

So, after some extra search, I have discovered that there is something broken with Android 4.1.2 audio.
I have installed Poweramp and got the some balance back. So it is a software problem.
Where to go from there?
Thanks. TB

Z4v off of Ebay?

I see Z4vs being sold on Ebay from China. No reason to think not legit. High rated sellers. I always wondered where all those unsold phones went.
Well, on my 2nd Z3v now and wondering... Any reason to think I couldn't buy a Z4v, slap my SIM in it and be a happy camper?
Let us know if you ever buy it
---------- Post added at 02:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:15 PM ----------
Btw are you ok with no updates and etc?
I will answer my own question. I am currently holding my fully functional z4v. It's the real thing. I put my SIM in and it works fine. All functionality. No issues. It came in a z3 + box and I was about to be really pissed off but lo and behold. It's a z4v. Verizon logo on the back. Works on the network just fine. I will give this a couple of days and report back.
Obviously no ROM updates from VZW. So I am not going to go nuts with it. Not even gonna try to root it.
I will connect it to the Sony Xperia restore app to see if it even knows what it is.
So, yes. Z4vs are out there. Apparently they're all in China. I never believed they just destroyed them all.

Wow! That is awesome! I'm kind of surprised Verizon allows that device to activate.
I'm still running my Z3v but after three years it's starting to fall apart literally. It would be fun to "upgrade" to the Z4v if I could get my hands on one.

I have a Z4V as well. Sony Dev site gives me a valid bootloader unlock code, however verizon has a bootloader unlock allowed=NO in place. I have spoken with verizon tech folks (Not low level people, but high level staff) they don't care about the phone at all. I bet if I knew what to ask for, I could get them to change unlock allowed from NO to YES...I believe that that can be done from the keypad.
I have managed to get root for 15 seconds at a time with (gasp) Kingroot, however RIC kicks in and reboots the phone and I back to square one.
Also, in it's stock for, I am unable to mount a MicroSD card, though SIM cards are fine.
I'd love to get the stock firmware and the ability to root. If I could get into the phone I could pull the stock partitions myself.
In order to use other ROMS, we would need the driver for the CDMA radio and the UHD Display. Easy enough to swap those out.
Anyone have any ideas??
BTW: I have working Fastboot and ADB. Flashtool does not recognize the phone nor do any of the "standard" root exploits work.

Any updates on getting z4v activated on Verizon network? Curious myself.
My Z4v is online with verizon, that was no problem at all. The issues I am having relate to (of course) locked bootloader and the lack of a STOCK ROM ftf file to experiment with. Since dm-verity and ric are still in place, root isn't possible (that I know of).
Great device, would love to experiment with it!

I recently got one as well (not from China, but some kind of a test device). Works on Verizon just fine, though right after activation it had been showing an icon saying, "Activation in progress, don't turn off the device" for >1 hour until I restarted it. The only issue I have now (besides being stuck with an old firmware) is with the mic - people on the other side of the call complain they can barely make out what I'm saying. No such complaints with a headset, so I just use that for now. Not sure if it's something that could be fixed with software - I'm in the same position as blackice000 on that front.
dskrvk,
I am waiting on a guy from Vietnam that believes he has the STOCK ROM for the Z4V (ftf format) If I had that, I believe we can adapt many of the newer ROMS and improvements while keeping the device specific pieces intact. Hell, I would keep 5.0.2 if i had root. Really like Titanium backup!
If you have any leads...let me know. I know this device is a rarity, but it's almost exactly what i wanted to replace my aging Razr M (albeit a bit larger than i would have liked.)
Rick,

fake galaxy s9+

OK, so my wife recently bought an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ from an individual on facebook for $400. At first I thought man that's cheap. Then I actually got hold of it. First I notice the OS is old and ninth ng like my s8+. Dual sim, lot of options and settings missing. Plug it into my laptop and it says that the portable device only has 5.38g memory. But the phone actually has 128g and in the USB options itbalso has an option for built in cd-rom.. Anyway its a fake. How do I go back and put the real s9+ software/firmware on it?
The first way to notice if your galaxy s9 is fake is open the camera app and then pro mode and switch between the f/1.5 and the 2.4 and see if it actually does something. In case that your were ripped off, i'm sorry to tell you, you can't put the original/real software on it

You can't, Samsung firmware would brick your device. Better try to get your money back or contact the police for what you can do.

Thanks for the reply. That was a lot quicker than I expected to see a response. Anyway..Well d#*! it. Most everything on it is just like the galaxy but it has old android version. What about upgrading it to the 8.0 Oreo at least. I've tried contacting the individual but since the first message we sent regarding it the person either blocked us or deactivated the account. So....... Hit a brick wall there.
Why would you buy a s9+ for 400 in the first place?
you cannot upgrade to oreo because you don't know what is the correct firmware for you device.. since it's a fake it probably won't have any customer support or future updates

What you bought is NOT a Samsung device, its probably a Chinese clone with inferior hard- and software. If you we`re even able to flash firmware with Odin which i doubt you`re device would be nothing more then a 400 USD paper weight. Better file a complaint with the police if the buyer on FB sold the device as a genuine Samsung S9+, because this is fraud and a lie.
Can you post a screenshot of /settings/ Telephone info/software data. Or get AIDA64 from the playstore for the phone info.

Install AIDA64 from the PlayStore for device info and look for /system/modelnumber. You can insert any model number specification in the build.prop, that doen`t make it true though.

i just wonder why you keep trying installing new firmware on a device you know for sure is 100% fake and obviously not an s9+ (not even samsung i bet). can I ask what you're up to? i would personally track that bastard down and beat him like Negan did to Glenn.

This phone has a MediaTek CPU and it has absolutely no similarity`s to a Samsung phone, it will be very hard (probably impossible) to find a rom that will go with that. I`d sell it for a few bucks to get rid of it and get a proper one. Try Swappa for instance for finding a descent phone.

Unfortunately I dont think you can find any matching firmware for this fake model. Maybe you can have a look with custom OS instead e.g. lineage os or cyanogenmod. not sure they have something for this device and you may have a chance to turn your device into a $400 paper weight too.
LOL this is hilarious. Who randomly buys a phone on Facebook? I don't even use Facebook, but I definitely wouldn't just buy a phone from there.

Well, as others have stated... You cant do much with it. I am sure the real mfg will not be putting out firmware updates.
You can tell your wife to use it as is, which I would NOT do. The reason being, you dont know what kinda of spyware is loaded on that thing. I would factory reset it, sell it on ebay for what it is, an s9+ clone and try to recovery the loss. I think that phone should be worth $200 on ebay

Success! 5G Working on DEMO LG Wing.

So I was able to successfully get the DEMO LG Wing I bought off of ebay. (Model LMF101V) Flashed. And despite being told these didn't even have a modem in them, I am able to get 5G with a Tmobile SIM now. *I believe these were originally Verizon demo's, but I am not sure. I am missing storage, which I have seen was a problem with other LG demo models. However it appears the SD card is working, so this is not a huge deal to me. (It registers 8GB instead of 256GB) I know the storage is actually there, because prior to flashing, I was able to access and use it in the demo mode.
I was wondering if anyone could help me get the biometrics working? The hardware is present and the phone does detect a fingerprint reader, but when trying to use it, it never registers any finger prints. *It does not accept or reject, the screen changes to indicate my finger is touching the glass, but nothing happens as far as registering my fingerprint goes, it just does nothing. I do not yet know if the 50% charging limitiation is still in place or not, I will update when I find out. I am assuming this is no longer an issue.
Not bad for $180 now that it has service. I accomplished this by making my own modifications to LGUP, I will be honest, I am a newbie when it comes to this stuff. So I was poking around and changed a few things here, a few things there, and I could not tell you specifically what I did that made this work. The phone still does not show me an IMEI number. (Just a 0 in place of it.) I dont want to break the rules regarding changing IMEI's, but since this would be more like restoring the IMEI, maybe the mods will allow us to discuss potential fixes to that issue.
Interesting this demo unit. What is the firmware showing in the system menu? Could you update to any newer firmware? Or could you unlock the bootloader / flash another official fimware?

Modified LGUP - Chip Erase was the only option that would do anything at all. So I first flashed a Verizon ROM and then a Tmobile ROM. Both lifted all all the limitations placed on the device. The only thing that did not work was the fingerprint sensor, but its there... so there has got to be a way. That and it wont show an IMEI number at all after that. Yet at least with Tmobile, that doesnt appear to matter.
Please direct me to the steps or page that will explain how to do what you did to remove this demo crap. Thanks in advance.

There isn't one. I figured this out on my own.
Have you played with a Velvet 5g? I just got a retail mode one.
I got ahold of 2 V60 demo units. I believe they are the Verizon ones? Anyhow i removed demo limitations to allow use of the device again, battery is at 50% llke most, and its supposedly missing the modem as i cannot get any information in Phone Information for the cellular bands etc.. It would be nice however to get them working IF they are present.
I don't see how your velvet has the modems unless perhaps it was specific verizon ones which these devices were rumored to have the ability of a full device (modem and everything else) once flashed to different firmware.
If you could walk back through what you do (i know im guilty myself of forgetting to write things down) and try to remember exactly what all you did this would help a lot on these demo units. I see a people wanting to convert them more these days since the phones are getting more hi tech. 5-7 years ago and so you could covert these,, Before that demo phones.. well they were all real. Was never an issue getting them cheap and no need for converting.. Wish it was like that today!
Any updates on this? Local used phone stores want $450 starting, I see a handful on eBay for anywhere from $120+, non-demo ones average around $350+. I'd like to get one that's unlocked (currently on Sprint/TMobile) but likely gonna be switching to AT&T. I see a lot of phones that say unlocked but I don't know if they're truly unlocked and/or how to do it myself if they're in fact not unlocked. 10+yrs ago I used to bake my own ROM's and whatnot but nowadays it feels like Spanish to me so I don't wanna buy the wrong phone and have it not work (demo issues) or not be able to easily switch providers.

Is there any chance you could share what you did to get this working? I've been trying to flash stock firmware to my Wing but haven't had any success. All of my attempts have either caused LGUP to crash, fail, or "successfully" flash but never actually do anything to the phone.

I personally cant wait until firehose comes out for the lg velvet. I have a few of those. They work great on att 5g. Almost feels exactly like my s20 ultra in my hand. Too bad lg stopped making phones.
Terminal version worked perfectly! The korean firmware works and seems to be fully functional, although I will have to do more testing. I may try flashing US carrier firmware at some point if it's compatible (probably T-Mobile as I use that), but for now this is fine.
Been using the phone for a few days now. It's largely been fine, however the fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to work as the OP mentioned. Still, if anyone has a demo device, it's much better then using the gimped firmware it comes with.

Tried without downgrading the firmware (if that's even possible- I don't think the Wing came with Android 9). ( #*462633*#100# ) got me into the service menu, did the fingerprint test and now it recognizes me putting my finger against the sensor, but tells me "Cover the entire sensor with your finger" every time.
Edit: To be clear, I'm using the latest Korean firmware. I'm not sure if downgrading it would work, since as far as I know it's all Android 10.
