Zenpad P008 Verizon LTE ZT581KL Rooting method? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot even find any information on this device let alone a root method. Apparently from my searches methods for the zenphone may work but im not sure if I want to risk bricking this device, but verizon would just replace it anyway. I guess its fairly new? It came with MM and already has an OTA which i keep putting off while I am going to try out various methods to get this one rooted and unleashed since one verizon store essentially scammed me over my new s7 edge so another store refunded everything for me. Now I got this 4g tablet I want to fasten in my car and it would be nice to root or unlock and put some custom vehicle firmware on it or something like that.

I have the same issue with my new Zenpad 3 8.0 . KingRoot and some other rooting apps didn't work for me.

At least someone finally replies.... I am still stuck trying to root this thing. I've tried nearly everything to no success. Even the temporary cwm wouldn't work for me

Same here buddy. Why did ASUS remove such features as App to SD and multi user support?

Anyone found anything? I have the tablet too...

Well damn this sux, Verizon stuck me with another unrootable device, at least I can say I got my pixel in time to unlock the bootloader and route it but not much activity for it since decided to lock them down. I thought I learned with my G4 that's why I got the pixel got home just to find out they're going to be locked down too lol Oh God how I loath Verizon

I hear ya. I have this tablet too: Asus Verizon Zenpad Z8 ZT581KL with V.3.4.23. Despite my best efforts, the damn system update notification keeps coming up telling me to update to Android 7--which I DO NOT want to do since doing that very well could kill any small hope I have on rooting the device. Since this is a Verizon branded tablet, they made an agreement with Asus to lock it down like Gitmo, so any official bootloader unlocker will not work with Verizon. Maybe one day when Verizon get's their head out of their ass and understands that people have the right to screw with their phones, they will allow unlocking options--though I doubt it.
This would be a great little tablet, if Verizon gave us more control over it--Jesus Christ, you're still getting $$ from me on your non-unlimited data. Bunch of ****-tards---I used to work for them back in the day at one of their corporate locations in Folsom, CA. Sadly, I think it's that prison mentality (Folsom Prison) that must have been carried in the air a few miles to the Verizon offices there. That was WDTS (Wireless Data Tech Support)....I was there right when EVDO just came out/expanding (Before Iphones...closest thing would have been a BES-Enabled Blackberry, or a fancy PDA)--oh those were the days...
There are rooting options available if you understand Chinese--but even its for older software versions 3.3.x, etc, and from what I can understand, the flash might actually take (hackers take note: if the flash can take..maybe we can piece together a flash with proper rooted versions)...but since this is a Sim/LTE tablet by doing that it will screw up the radio (Cellular) and recovery partitions. But maybe something round-about could be done that does that, then reflashes modified signed firmware to root it--I dunno.
My google-fu is pretty good and I came across some cached, or snippet that said SRSroot might root 6.0.1 on the ZT581KL, but not sure now legit it is.
Unless more people get this tablet/devs play with it, I don't think we will get root/bootloader/recovery anytime soon. I wish I lived in a country that allowed multiple wifes, because I would do a bounty for root on this devices and give away one of my wives for payment.
I used the tablet mostly for navigation, but I want root/twrp for backup purposes, if I need to wipe the device crossing the border since police now wanting to look at peoples phones/tablets. I love using Waze since I'll be driving down the road with a FAT blunt smoking away, so it's good to know if cops are around.

Zenpad z8 running on Fi
I also have this pad. I bought it from Verizon because it's USB-C and I loathe micro USB and even more so because the helpful sales guy at Verizon let me try my Google Fi data only sim...and sure enough it works awesome after setting h2g2 as the apn. Would love to root it though I hate how I can only have one user account on this for now.

Kind of off-topic, but I can't find any clear answer to my question about the Z8 and Z8s. I'm considering buying one, but I do not want a data-plan. Do these tablets work without a SIM in them, or will I be stuck at a home screen that says "Insert SIM..."?

Of course you can use it without a SIM.
I just ordered this tablet. I'm sad I can't root it, but I mainly use root for adblocking. I will have to use DNS66 or BlockThis instead.

This method doesn't work?

Zenpad P008 Verizon root - no luck
I just tried One Click Root and that didn't work either. Upon chatting with support they were stymied by the lack of an 'OEM Override' debug mode setting.

Can anybody help, I'm new at this stuff. Plus I'm teaching myself. I've rooted some devices. Did some firmware jobs, kinda' familiar with Odin. But I've tried everything from KingRoot PC to adb tryna' root this thing (P008). Between this thing and that Knox MDM shizzle. Man!, Anybody got anything on these topics......

Anyone try Magisk?? I also want to root this thing. Cannot get a usb gaming controller to recognize either.

[Q] Help with ZTE Z990G (Merit)

Hi, I am looking for some help Rooting/Unlocking my ZTE Z990G also known as ZTE Merit.
I like so many others made the mistake of falling for Net10's good priced no contract plans and phones only to be highly unsatisfied by the time my 30 day unlimited plan was up...Now the phone is of decent quality and I do want to keep it, but I just do not feel like $50 a month is worth the horrid customer service and other issues I have had.
Basically I want to unlock my phone to use with T-Mobile, however net10 is refusing to give me the unlock code. I have made multiple calls and gotten various representatives but each one responds with the same questions when I ask "Are you meaning to unlock your phone to use with another provider? Why?" and then when I say yes (and give any reason, even that I'm going to be overseas) "Oh, I'm sorry our phones can't be unlocked. Have a good day!" First of all I know this is BS because I have seen an unlocked Merit with my own eyes and know if can be done.
So all in all, can someone help me to unlock my phone? I am willing to root if necessary, I just need it unlocked so I can use my t-mobile sim card in it. I went to unlockclient.co and it says they can unlock it but I would rather not pay $25 for something I don't know is safe...Please help!
(sorry for all the ranting)

I've had the same issue, spent 2 hrs on the phone with Net10 and ZTE!
After some scouring the net on google I found this, several people on various forums and blogs report that it works great!
I'm getting ready to try this myself.
Scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see that the Z990G IS supported!
If you try it please report back and let me know if it worked for you.

I'd never have stayed with them for that long, Net10 sucks
Ok, so I tried http://www.unlockclient.co/
Paid the 25 bucks and it unlocked my Merit in under a minute! Now I can use T-Mobile! As stated on their webpage if you leave a positive comment on their Youtube video they'll refund you $3. I left my review and within 25 mins paypal notified me of the refund!
Here's the video to comment on for the refund. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0HHQy0tXJQ
****Disclaimer****
If your phone was manufactured or sold to you after January 28th, 2013 it is illegal according to federal law for you to unlock it without permission from your carrier. I will not be held responsible in anyway if you break the law.
My Merit was both manufactured and purchased prior to Jan. 28th 2013.
Hopefully you can get unlocked and away from Net10 without breaking the law :good:
Are you rooted with a custom ROM? I might be able to help you fix the other issues you mentioned.

Sadly, no, my phone isn't rooted though I really wish it were. I am no where near Tech savvy and afraid Id brick it if I were to do it on my own.
I did however obtain the "PUK" code for my sim card (crazy enough through Net10) she just failed to tell me how to enter it in my phone to unlock it. So Im basically back to square one. ... I like my phone and all, I just hate that it hardly has any memory at all.
Im not sure if this is the right forum for my next question, but..... is it possible to change the stock or whatever from gingerbread to something
I really do appreciate your advice else? Lol told you, not tech savvy at all.....
Still think you can help??

Hey! So I finally rooted the phone (I know, yay right!) To do so, it was suggested that I install TouchNavRecovery and DexMeritRoot, which did as said...Root achieved. Since I've installed a custom rom called Icecream Scamwhich and ran it.....(really liked this one but had a few kinks to be worked out(which I was told to wait until they were fixed before installing) and I decided to try something else)
Now, I'm running a custom rom called the blue steel that I installed last night.
Do you think that you could possibly still help me? Id so appreciate any advice when it comes to the Z990g.
Hopeful yet!!

I'd go with that ROM. I've tried IceCreamScamWich which is a deodexed and themed version and one by StayBoogy on an overclocked kernel running at 777mhz but SpeedFreak2.0 is just amazing for this phone. You even keep more system storage through sd-ext4.
Try this kernel : androidforums.com/avail-all-things-root/525527-kernel-kernel1-0-update-apr-7-11-33-released.html
Overclocked to 864mhz and running smooth. Uncanny really. Hands down SpeedFreak2.0/HotROD is the best.

As for unlocking, I've tried all those ROMs and non of them include unlocking. So I also tried that unlock client.co and did get my $3 refund as well. Somehow, I ended up with an awesome unlocking app throughout my search in making the most out this phone that works flawlessly for anyone interested.

Unfortunatly, Im not permitted to enter links or paraphrase them in the forums just yet but I do hope I can still be of some assistance (someway)
You should check out some good reads at Androidforums in the All Things Root Section for the zte merit z990g also known as the Avail. In those rooms you will find two Bloggers by OUT OF IDEAS and STAYBOGGY or you can search android forums for the TouchNavRecovery, the DexMeritRootzip, the ICS icecream scamwhich, as well as the Steel Blue Rom. All are great and wonderful just not my "fit"
as for how I did it, These zip files are fairly simple. The guys made them basically fail proof (thank goodness or Idz been up a creek wirhout a paddle & probably bricked my z990g) I just downloaded, backed up phone and user data/apps/informion.
Downloaded all those files TouchNavRecovery, DexMeritRootzip, ICS Icecream scamwhich, and Blue Steel Rom (decided to make another
Root Checker Basic and SuperUser from playstore (just so I wouldnt have to later.)
Copy TouchNav to Sd card (cant be in a folder has to be zip file)
Renamed it update.zip
Boot from recovery by turning phone off and holding down the MENU, VOLUME UP & THE POWER BUTTON down all at once until phone boots back up showing the recovery menu.
Using volume button to control cursor, I choose CLEAR DATA
Then selected INSTALL ZIP FROM SD CARD.
let it install. Once complete REBOOT
Then when phone powers back up RENAME the file RECOVERY.
(Decided to make another backup here)
Step 2:
Copy DexMeritRoot.zip to Sd
Rename update.zip
Boot from recovery
Wipe data
Install update.zip
Reboot (should be rooted by now)
Renamed Z990g_root
Then simply followed those same steps to install the ROMS
Updates MUST be renamed update.zip or they wont install. (Not sure if this rule applies each time you install a new kernel, custom rom, etc or if it only applies to when you install from stock., to be safe I renamed each one update.zip before installing and made sure to rename them before I copied another to the sd cards root and renamed it to update.zip to avoid confusion)
Im also aware it may not of been required biut I backed up everything several times.
Before I rooted with all zip files and su as well as root checker basic downloaded prior to wiping any data.
AFTER the installment of update.zip for TouchNavRecovery
AFTER installing the DexMeritRoot.zip
AFTER installing ICS icecream scamwhich
AFTER installing the Blue Steel custom ROM
oh and AFTER I installed the stayboggy overclocked Kernel for my zte z990g.
As stated, currently Im unable to post links as per xda forum rules until I reach 10post I believe it is, but I hope to of been some help to those who are also new to rooting and seeking to explore the Zte Merit Z990g at its fullest possibilities.
Im currently seeking information on su commands and how to use Android terminal emulator If you should be intrested please check over at Androidforums for more tips as they are Noob user friendly and insightful as well
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any mishaps or misfortunes if any reader should attempt the above method of rooting their device or installing a custom rom mentioned in this thread. Please note that just because these methods worked for my device DOES NOT mean that it will work for others, therefore releasing myself and the xda forum from any liability should you attempt any above zip and brick your device. stones

Yes, you are correct. Neiter offer a solution to unlocking the device from its network sim lock. I initally installed due to my phones over panicked kernel forcing my merit into a constant reboot until it was rendered nearly useless. Id hoped either one would stop or slow the reboots down as Im just now beginning to gain use of my merit for the first time in about 6 months or so. Frustrating as it was I bared with uit lol There for a while I figured Id bought a $130 piece of crap destined for the local electronic recycle bin

Hard Brick from downgrading to 14.3.2.8

I just want to start off by saying that I don't know too much about rooting or much of Android/Amazon OS in general. I have had my (Apollo) Fire HDX 8.9" since March 2, 2013. I have side-loaded apps and I am just a typical user. I know how to modify applications and such, so I know a bit but probably not as much as I should. I'm up-to-date with a lot of tech, but not all the rooting stuff. Anyway... Last night (November 25, 2015) I decided that I wanted to root. I started by finding some important info, specifically from this forum. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/rollback-13-3-2-8-rollback-ota-captured-t3046204) So being as lazy as I am I did as much as I could without my computer and got 14.3.2.8 up and running over night. When I woke up I started the setup and enabled the wifi just quick enough to get ES File Manager. I got it installed successfully with no problems and turned off the wifi. After that I didn't really understand the OTA thing and TBH I still don't. I am assuming that is what updates my Kindle automatically. Anyway I just ignored that and moved on to my next step, installing 14.4.5.2. (Which I did on my computer.) After realizing my internet was really slow I decided to go reset the modem. Doing this messed up the modem and it kept going into "Limited mode". I had an idea that it could just be my Ethernet cable so to check that I turned my Kindle's wifi to see if I could connect through wireless. It still didn't work so I just decided to get ready for the day. This was around 11 AM (MST)(Thanksgiving 2015). When I am all done getting ready I go check my computer to see if my wifi is working, and it was finally working. So I go grab my Kindle, but now it wont turn on at all. I am assuming that this is a hard brick. I am still on 14.3.2.8 (I'm guessing that there is still stuff on my Kindle) and have no root and never did turn on developer options. When I connect it to my computer it takes a second and then say that it is unrecognizable. I am aware of "Restore2Stock", but I want to know if there are any other options. I don't want to spend $20 on a service that I don't necessarily trust. Anyone able to help???

So is there anything that I can do with my $300 tablet now called a brick? Can I call support and see of they can do something? I'm sad and I realize that it is my fault but I'm pretty over the top that my tablet now has a worth of a dime. I would expect there to be some sort of company that would buy my "brick". Like a junkyard for disfunctional devices. My guess it that there is not a single thing in the entire world that can fix this.

Like a junkyard for disfunctional devices. My guess it that there is not a single thing in the entire world that can fix this.

Check eBay or similar auction sites to get an idea what your device is worth (very little) in its current state. To my knowledge there is no company that refurbishes bricked Kindles (at least HDX models) and no one on XDA has figured out how to resurrect crippled devices. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the help. I'll see how much I can get.
I'm in a position equal to his own , I have nuna 3rd kindle fire and think that just left on the wifi was going to be the tablet is useless crap ..
Friend anything that might serve to regain our fire I notice , just hope you do the same , never give that friend to relive our Kindle
I just replaced the motherboard in mine. The 16gb board I bought was $36
I just ordered a daughter board also. I must have damaged it also when I was messing with it.
I took the daughterboard out of my wife's to test just to make sure.
Daughterboard was $14
Bought both from ifixit but they are out of motherboards.
Google them and you should be able to find one.
Be patient removing the display from the back frame.
Just posted a thread with a link for motherboards.

Good stuff! Offers some hope for those with bricked devices (especially pricey Apollo/Saturns) and moderate skills in electronics disassembly/repair. At present there are few viable alternatives to the outstanding display and unique form factor of the HDX line. Thanks for sharing.

HUAWEI Y538: how to upgrade Lollipop to something usable?

I lucked into a sale on a HUAWEI Y538 smartphone at Best Buy the other day, knowing we have no Boost Network around here for the cellphone service. Perfect!
I just wanted it as a nice little media player and access to my LAN, like my KitKat tablet. Nothing terribly fancy. I rooted it with Kingo, hoping to remove that nag cellphone activation every startup. I have to press Accept, then Self Service comes in and I click the no button. In addition as many of you know, Lollipop has a lot of unwanted background apps running . I spent a whole day trying to tame this and the only good news is that I worked out the factory reset.
My real question is if it's possible to remove that startup nag entirely, but either way, to ask if it's possible to downgrade to KitKat or something else? As a WiFi-only media player Lollipop would seem to be quite awful.
I've been on computers for decades but no experience with Android except my happy KitKat tablet. If some kind soul could be persuaded to help me out, well that'd be really cool.

Well I can't thank you enough for trying, but it seems Huawei changed their procedure. I got the 4 informations required and registered with Huawei. Going to the unlock page changes to Chinese and says too much traffic for servers in English. So I emailed Huawei Mobile support and got the following reply:
Dear User,
Huawei Customer Service is pleasure to be at your service, sorry to bring you the trouble,if you want to unlock your phone, you should meet these conditions as follow:
1.Please register your Huawei ID in our official website http://huawei.com/en/ on your phone.
2.Log in your Huawei ID for continuously 14 days.
3.Each Huawei ID should not apply for the unlock code more than twice within half years. If you meet the information, please go to http://emui.huawei.com/en/ and click the 'download'button to login your Huawei ID other than any other third party ID to apply for the unlock code. Please contact us by mail or local service hotline as following if error message appears.
TEL: http://consumer.huawei.com/en/contact-us/index.htm?tag=hotline
Mail: http://consumer.huawei.com/en/contact-us/index.htm?tag=email
Please submit your mobile model, SN, IMEI/MEID and erro message in your e-mail.We also need to know that your phone is rooted, it can be out of the best working state and part of functions may not be able to work normally. In additon, the system is vulnerable to be invaded by viruses once your phone is permitted to unlock. What's more, for the lacking of fully tested, the third party software will not be compatible with your phone. Unlocking will bring unexpected negative impacts and the device will be not normal, and can not be restored, Huawei after-sales service office will not provide warranty service for your rooted phone, and you may bear the cost. So we strongly advise you to think it twice.
If you have any other problems, please send your feedback to us. We will be at your service to help you to solve your problems.
Once again thank you for contacting Huawei device.
Best Regards.

If I 'm reading that right they want me to log in every day for 14 days, which is kind of nuts.
To be fair the phone may possibly be rooted using Kingo (fast boot showed an "unlocked" message which I don't know if that means rooted but probably not boot unlocked), and for all I know that changes some of the information.
So I'm just replying FYI so you know how it went. Maybe I should do factory reset and try again?
Long day I'll go crash and see how it looks in the morning. Thanks for trying!
Joey
Happy here to report a partial solution, 1/2 way there!
If you take out the SIM card inside the phone it only nags once and saves probably 30 seconds of boot-up time. It's a great improvement!

I bought the same phone at BB ($10 on sale) to use like you do (unactivated). What you're trying to do is actually super simple. Merely put the device in Airplane mode, then turn back on the wifi (and GPS if you like). You will not be prompted to activate your device. You actually should be doing this anyway as it saves your battery by not having the cell radio constantly trying to talk to the tower.
In case you missed it, there is a firmware update to the phone that can be downloaded via the Emui app on the phone. I'm not sure what all the update affects, but it doesn't impact your ability to use the procedure I described to avoid the constant activation reminder.

COOL! Perfect it boots and no need to click anything further - and besides it's less stray microwaves. Also to report Huawei replied and said they accept bootloader code requests at: consumer (at) huawei.com. They say to include IMEI and serial numbers in the email. Both can be found in Settings >> about phone or underneath the back cover.
Where to go from here, I'd also like to disable sneaky RAM-stealing apps like Sprint cellphone and some apps I'll never use, such as most Google Play. Add decent firewall and decent media player, and have a good time!
Recommend root method I'm good to go.

I've read elsewhere (here on XDA) that folks have gotten root using Kingo root (mostly tethered to a Windows PC and not the app version). Note that this root method often requires you to run the rooting program multiple times before it is successful. I'm not a fan of Kingo after being forced to use it to re-root another device (it took well over a dozen times before root took). Also, Kingo doesn't use SuperSu, it installs a Kingo version of SuperSu which CAN be removed (not exactly easily) but users of the Huawei Y538 Union have gotten bootloops trying to remove Kingo's proprietary SuperSu, so not advisable at this time. Even after rooted you are not able to remove the pre-installed bloatware because of the locked bootloader (which is different than the carrier unlock). To be honest, I've pretty much decided to just not root this device and just install an SD card if I need the space...I'd rather do that than risk bricking the device when (for me) there's really no need. I'm going to wait it out and see if anybody can figure a reliable way to deal with the device without bricking before I do anything else.
If you do root using Kingo, you might be able to "freeze" the background apps you don't want using Titanium Backup. I've read that folks haven't had any luck using TB to uninstall the bloatware, but if you're just trying to free ram it *might* work. I believe the risk would be the device expecting certain apps to run, and if unable it might bootloop/brick. Without a custom recovery allowing a nand backup bricking seems like a real possibility.
Please post your results if you unlock your bootloader. It surprises me that they're offering this, as I thought they only supported carrier unlocking. If you're able to figure out how to trim down the bloat please share.
I'm currently using Google's Play Music app for music/podcasts since I've already got 20,000 song's uploaded and since I can't delete that app anyway. Otherwise I'd just use Doubletwist for offline listening.
In case you, or anyone else with this phone is interested, I ended up purchasing a cheap ($5 delivered) case for this thing. Overall I like the case, but if you have any questions about that, let me know.
Yeah that case is perfect. I might have found the same on eBay searching " Huawei Union Y538 Case Innovaa".
As for Kingo ROOT, I have one hit and one miss to report. The KitKAt tablet it worked and I un-rooted after I got my business done. But the Lollipop phone is another story. I run a really tight ship on the Windows end, and Kingo rooted Lollipop, I got some functions involving root accomplished, but it ended at some point (completely offline except for USB tether to PC).
I factory reset the phone and tried again. Kingo downloaded more stuff and my firewall asked for access to PCAccelerator and acdsee.. The former is considered a virus and the second an image viewing app, which I don't use (maybe it's payloaded who knows).
I don't wish to scare anyone nor besmirch Kingo ROOT's reputation if it's a wholesome rooting app, but advise great caution and use a firewall that notifies things like this (I use NetLimiter on PC).
So I await the boot-unlock code and hope I live to tell about it Thanks a million zerozed99! That case is icing on the cake.
For what it's worth, no reply from Hauwei, and yesterday I sent another SOS asking, if not for boot unlock code, even just a stock KitKat ROM for the Y538. We know that model ran KitKat as well as Lollipop.
It just kills me to see this cute little quadcore wasted with all the bloatware taking up valuable RAM and battery power as well.
Ladies & Gentlemen, distinguished colleagues at xda-developers... Please bear with me.
I started coding on Macs in 1981(1981!). I later went on to 5 years formal education in Computer Science at a decent University, and spent the better part of 2 decades volunteering for low and no income people- those were the best years of my life!
Now I'm on the old side, with some heart disease that has four stents in my heart and the no-fun life expectancy that goes with it.
Now, being a reasonably informed geek, I'm seeing some disturbing things I want to air out in "public" if you'll so allow me.
The idea Hauwei will send you a boot unlock code, I don't think it's true. They make it easy to fill out a form with at least four identifying informations, but I have YET to see anyone receive their code! In my case the form advances to a page written in Chinese! I believe this is a spy device and priced to spy on a certain demographic. The almost perfect unlockability and easy bootlock application with no one reporting being sent a code.... there's a reason.
Granted one thing: I've never owned a cellphone nor did I even want cell access from this. Maybe you've noticed the same thing(s) years ago. I just wanted a little quadcore computer to play around with, to access my LAN and play media, and this has me worried the kind of entities that design such forced options.
Oh well, no luck. anyone else going to wait a bit or should I trash this?
Can't tell you how much I'd like Marshmallow and the evil bootloader out of there for something else.
Lollipop is not so bad IMHO except for the lack of privs to access our own SD cards.
If you hold down the volume-down button and press the power button until the phone starts up you can boot into fastboot mode. I've read here in XDA someplace that there are 2 available builds of TWRP custom recovery for the y6, both work on our phone, tho only one of the builds works fully. I have not tried to install either on my y538 yet, but I will, and I'll let you know what I find out.
If you can get the bootloader unlocked, you should be able to flash SuperSU from TWRP.
I suggest you google the xda guide to fastboot. It is not very complicated.
I doubt we can locate any custom ROM for this device. However, if we can get rooted we can backup stock and then remove all the bloatware. ES File Explorer is great in root mode for managing the SD card.
More useful info: I pulled my SIM out before I fired up the phone for the first time, and when I turned on the phone it didn't download any of the extra crapware from Sprint! I have the Virgin version, and I expected all that stuff to download, but it did not. Also, if you look in the App Manager settings, you will see a few apps which shipped on your phone in the Disabled state!! You may wish to enable Lookout or others of the stock disabled apps. Also, without root, you can remove the Sprint ID app here, and disable any of the Google spots you don't want, like Play News or Play Movies.
This is my first Huawei device, though it's my twenty-somethingh Android, and so far I am very pleased with the layout of the settings and of the notifications tray. This is way liveable, and they allow us to disable most of the bloat.
Good luck!

Help with Rooting, Flashing, & Unlocking Bootloader For LG Rebel LTE (L44VL)

I just bought this phone about 2wo weeks ago, & it's actually not a bad for a Tracfone. It runs on version 5.1.1. But forget specs lol. It's currently not activated, & I'm not so sure if that matters when it comes to the actual process of Rooting. I downloaded KingRoot, but I seen that before Rooting I would have to unlock the bootloader. So I followed the procedures only to stumble upon something wasn't right.. I couldn't put my phone in either fastboot, download, or recovery mode.. No matter what I did. I've tried every guide & forum, but nothing. I finally called my service provider to see if they could figure out what the problem was. They came to tell me that I wasn't going to be able to access those features until I activate the phone. (which sounds really suspicious & stupid) I noticed I can access safe mode. What sounds more suspect is that I have to pay for a plan just to activate it, which I never had to do with a phone before. Nevertheless, to sum it all up.. Is there an actual way around this craziness? I never had to go thru this much to root a phone. I honestly feel like there is no point of having an android without unleashing it's true potential. Please, any help would be great. :fingers-crossed:
I have the same phone and the same problem. Still have yet to find a way. anybody?
Looks as though Straight Talk (ST) sets it up that way. I have had other straight talk phones and have always had issues rooting their phones. In fact I have never been able to root their phones. Please someone, show us a work around solution these ST phones.
Same on net 10. Think its an lg thang...
activated my phone and have same prob...help
Funny how I have a LG Optimus Fuel that has really crappy specs and can root easily with android kitkat but this phone is lollipop and better specs and newer can't root at all. I think it is more bootloader locked and only ones that are not locked are mediocre to expensive phones from the manufacturer now. My Optimus Fuel is a Tracfone too, just like the Rebel. I doubt anyone is interested in getting this one rooted. I would not mind because when I rooted my Optimus Fuel it let me put my Micro SD Card into exfat instead of fat32, which exfat sound quality is better and boosted volume a couple db. Only thing with Optimus one is that 512mb makes the music randomly skip. So that is one reason to get the Rebel rooted but we are SOL with this device.
Straight Talk is newer than Tracfone, because Tracfone created Straight Talk. Not the other way around. Tracfone has been around the longest.

Have you tried shutting the phone off, and pressing the buttons after connecting to pc. I don't remember the exact buttons you press. I have worked on a few lg phones before and that was the only way i was able to obtain the mode i needed.
Cannot Root my LG Rebel LTE (L44VL)
I am also having problems trying to Root my my LG Rebel LTE (L44VL) too. My Backup&Restore program of choice is Titanium, but it requires that my system needs to be "Rooted" first. I couldn't find any settings to do this (even when I enter 'Developer Mode'). I've even tried several popular Rooting app tools, including RootKing and Kingo Root (Mobile Version), but they all were not able to Root my system. Please help me with this problem...thank you very much.
At the moment I really only need to backup the critical *system* files, any recommendations?
Looks like this phone is never going to get the root attention it needs. It been out about a year now since release and nothing at all. No one cares about this phone.
Have any of you tried going into developer options and turning on the oem unlock option before trying to get into download mode or anything? Just a thought guys...
As for the optimus fuel, install towelroot. open it, tap the title/symbol 3x, change the 2nd from last digit to "zero". Tap "make it rain". Should root it in literally like 3secs...

No this phone sucks without root though lol.
I've been fiddling with this phone for months, the farthest I've managed to get was a temp root, which is undone when the phone is reset. My theory is that it's possible, if done within the timeframe before the phone resets itself, whether that means pushing files through adb or shell, or flashing a custom Rom. My phone has been through a number of battles, and has seen more bricks than a brick wall..but, I'm still at it.

This phone is the same as the Optimus Zone 3, or the LG Leon, or the LG K4, however the Optimus Zone 3 seems to be its direct ancestor.
I have successfully temp rooted with kingroot 5.2.2 and oem unlock, problem is a random crash/reboot soon follows which of course flushes all the root.
We worked on this phone and the zone 3 a few years back. Never had any luck with this handset. It's another cheap undesirable that will most likely not see any development for itself any time soon.

Phone came out around 2 months ago, same phone and same problem. Sorry to inform Root/TWRP won't be available for a while on the phone since it's so new no developer has gotten their hands on it to start developing for it. I predict it'll be faster than most new phones because it's exclusive to T-Mobile. It would take much longer if the phone had different variants because of the different carriers, but that's not the case with the revvl so what's left to do is to wait and hope ::fingers-crossed:
Anyone has the stock rom for this device?
it is like this phone doesnt exist. cant find anything. Got this phone in america and it seems impossible to unlock in mexico. do you guys think if a root will be available it will be unlocked for use in mexico? thanks!
I may be able to help with root. I don't have the phone, but if someone is willing to potentially risk their device for the sake of science, let me know.
If this goes the way I think/hope it does (since its a MediaTek), we may be able to get root and recovery in a VERY short time for this. If not, then unfortunately you're out of luck for now. But, if one of you is willing to risk it and try, I'll be more than happy to help you out.
For now though, nobody update their firmware AT ALL. They may release a patch in the future that blocks what I want to do.
UPDATE: I got to play with one at a T-Mobile store. CPU Z says this has a 6755 board, which is commonly available through other phones that have been modified. I'm really getting excited about this... If this goes the way I hope it does, you could be having TWRP and root REALLY soon.
i will be back in germany at on dec.21,if german t-mobile can't unlock it for use in germany I am willing to do anything with it for science..since I will throw this useless piece of technology at the wall anyway

Let me know as soon as you have access to a PC with Windows or Linux, which I'm guessing is when you get back to Germany. For now, make sure you DO NOT TAKE ANY SOFTWARE UPDATES AT ALL. You can update apps from the Play Store still, but keep away from all system updates at all costs.
Send me a PM for how I can reach you, when you're ready to work with me. The procedure I'm thinking of will not unlock your phone in terms of network (like using it on other carriers), but if it works you will definitely have TWRP and root access, and MAYBE even a bootloader unlock (for installing custom ROMs).
But in the meantime, I can't stress this enough, AVOID ALL SYSTEM UPDATES. This goes for anyone who may want to root their phone using this method, if this works.
I just bought one to use on a spare phone line - Cyber Monday sale for $48! I'm happy to experiment when it arrives. Maybe the sale price will entice some other developers...

Overall, it doesn't look like we have any of the obstructions I was afraid we were going to have so far. We need to work on a few things before we can get the whole thing done, but as of now, this hack looks like it will be 100% possible to do
UPDATE: We're running into some trouble again. Stuff I may not be able to bypass. I'm not sure if this will be 100% possible now...
Picked up two of these for $48 each on the T-Mobile Cyber Monday deal and got them to waive the shipping, set one up for my Mom and it's a pretty nice phone. I still have the other one sealed in the box, debating whether to keep it or sell it. Root and TWRP would be awesome, hopefully it comes soon.

A device no one has touched could be beneficial, since that means there's no Google Factory Reset Protection on it (no google account associated with it yet). If you want to use your unused device for some of the tests/methods we're working on, let me know.
Another update on our findings: with the help of @lopestom, I've found out that this device looks to be a 1:1 copy of the Alcatel A30 Fierce, and a distant cousin of the A30 Plus that Amazon once sold as a prime subsidized phone. Despite what SPFT and CPU-Z say, this phone should be running an MT6738 chipset, which uses the same partition layout as the MT6735. I have a completed scatter file for the 6735 from my R1HD days, so if this is the case, knowing where the phone's partitions are should be no problem.

My biggest fear is, again, that SPFT is being blocked in the same way that it now is on the R1HD. Besides that, we found out that Google's FRP may prevent us from accessing the developer menu to enable ADB on the phone. Now, I could've sworn I got into the developer menu in a store demo Revvl by mashing the Build Number entry like I would on any other phone, but for some reason the person I'm working with is unable to get to this menu (mashing Build Number does nothing for him). If another Revvl user is reading this, can you please try to enable the Developer Menu and ADB for me? I want to see if this issue is just for him or if it affects everyone.
EDIT: The error given from SPFT with the Revvl VS with the R1HD are completely different errors, so this gives me hope that we can still use SPFT with the Revvl.

Hey my name is Jakob, i also has a T-Mobile revvl (Alcatel 5049w) and yes my developer options have been enabled without any issues and I'm willing to assist in rooting options if I can help
just tried doing a reboot to bootloader with no luck, it reboots, hangs on the power by angroid then fully boots to stock rom.

Worked on the Revvl Plus with @oasisfleeting tonight. It's a snapdragon 625 based phone, unlike its mediatek based little brother. This phone actually allows us to go into fastboot mode unlike the normal Revvl though. However, with the exception of fastboot devices (just shows what's connected), no commands actually work. They either all return "..." Or show that no device is connected (when it actually is). Even throwing in the device ID: fastboot -i 0x1ebf oem unlock does nothing.
For the mediatek variant, there is still a very small sliver of hope. For the Plus variant, I'm pretty sure you will never get the bootloader unlocked. Root maybe, but that'll be it.

There are other unlocking commands too. Did you try "fastboot flashing unlock" on the plus
I have also seen bootloader mode renamed before. so try "adb reboot fastboot" to get into fastboot.
