hello people, i bought grey RN3 in May/June from Amazon.in but it had this weird dark area in the bottom right of the screen (pics attached), it was very annoying, I think its some kind of backlight/lcd liquid defect, i replaced it immediately, but the replacement unit had also have a smaller dark area in the bottom left side so i refunded because i was fed up of replacing again and again.
i wanted to buy something of better quality. but there are still nothing better under 20k/300$ than RN3, and many people don't have this kind of screen issue.
So if you recently bought RN3 (especially grey coz it has tianma lcd panel, other variants have sharp/boe), please inspect the screen and confirm if your unit has this defect or not, if possible kindly take pics of screen with a white background like i did. Thank you!

it's perfectly white (it may doesn't look perfectly white on image, but trust me, it is)
from which site you bought it on, yours is probably made in China. Indian units are made in India now, these Indian factories are new so quality control is meh. also Boe/Sharp are better than tianma
I bought it from Polish importer and yes, this device has been made in China for sure.

But I noticed strange glow, in the bottom of the screen, when the backlight of the touch buttons is on, so I turned it off. Try it too.
I turned off button backlight and then clicked these pics, I no longer have the device coz I refunded it in June
Atmel/BOE touch screen, and no issues with screen other than there is a very minor light bleed at the top which I can really only see in a dark room with a black background on the phone.

Dude, if you don't want to buy RN3 again, then Galaxy On8 (Edit: Not On7 2016, sorry) with SD625, 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, FP on front, f/1.9 13MP camera and 1080p AMOLED display (india specific) will be a good option below 20k. Just wait for it to be relased in India. First Samsung beast phone below 20k. Only downside of it's compared to RN3 is little bit lower processor, but SD625 is a good processor too. Also, On8 has way more better camera and better metal body design compared to RN3. Just a friendly suggestion. Don't bite me Xiaomi fans. I'm a RN3 user talking.
Yeah but my main concern is development, samsung phones doesn't get good xda support roms/kernels unless it's S or note series, can't live without CM/aosp based roms and definitely won't like using touch**** ui. and btw on7 16 has tft screen not amoled

About On7 2016 having TFT - No, I was actually talking about On8 releasing in India on first week of october. It has AMOLED.
Yeah on8, considering dev support i only have 2 options, rn3 or g4+. g4+ has a good screen but not very impressive as whole, only if it had better build, 625/650 and bigger battery...*sigh*
also if Xiaomi had gone with a better display and gorilla glass, rn3 would be perfect.
i cant see the dark thing you are talking about in your screenshots, there is very little shady affect at the bottom, which is in MIUI itself, and comes only when you are in some sort of lists, otherwise its fine, I recently purchased dark grey variant.. and its absolutely fine, it has tianma panel. I dont know what is source of your info, but i have used all three variant of RN3, and the dark grey variant has most vibrant and beautiful display, it has better vewing experience than other too..
This is what I wanted to know if recent units have this problem or not, it's dull in the pics but it was very difficult to ignore when seen live, it's only on the bottom right or left, which makes it a hardware issue.

Picked up my s6 edge (gold) 64gb version from a reliance digital store here in India on the release day, April 10th. Immediately got a 250 odd mb of update n even did that! But there seems to be a problem with the RGB notification led on the top! All the colors seem to appear well except for white! It appears like a light blue/purple colored light! Anybody else has this problem? Or do any of u have a fix for this "glitch". Or should I get the hardware replaced?

When i got my hands on the gs6 edge and gs6 both next to each other before the release (maybe pre-production models) i compared both devices with the result, that the gs6 edge had the MUCH better whitepoint. Well it was a bit blueish, but on these both devices the general gs6 had a much greyer white tone.
But right now after i receaved my gs6 edge, the first thing i was noticing was, that it had a very bad whitepoint, almost like a sand tone. I directly went to the next electro market and compared my gs6 edge to the general gs6 shown there with the result, that my gs6 edge had the worser white point, so the opposite of the result on the pre production models.
And thats the same with all the youtube videos. On those youtube videos who had the chance to test the devices before the release, the gs6 edge had a better white, and on those videos with the devices after release it was the gs6 with the better white.
So its pretty weard, because im not sure if this is hardwarewise or softwarewise. ( BTW all my comparisons were with the same AMOLED CINEMA setting and same brightness.)

Not sure why people are complaining about the back, it's fully replaceable.
As of the front, the fingerprint scanner had to go somewhere, but they kept the screen at 5.5 and side bazels are ultra thin.. The whole phone is much smaller than the oneplus one...

Nor will many others, especially for the increased $450 price. The top bezel of the phone looks exactly like the Nexus 5 and the bottom bezel is identical to the Galaxy S2. This is, at best, extremely bizarre.. but for the vast majority, totally unacceptable.
It's a real shame, I was hoping the OP2 would be my next phone. There's also some reports that the screen panel and camera aren't very good from leaked camera test shots.
Of course, people are also freaking out about the low Antutu benchmarks and are faulting the underclocked SD 810. At this point, I wouldn't touch any SD 810-based hardware.
No word on whether Oxygen is improved at all.

Lol even my lg gflex 2 gets 58000 even with throttling... I think maybe it is another cheaper version not the "normal"one of op2. Some previous leaked geekbench scores and antutu showed far better results.

I haven't really seen much feedback from others regarding this problem and I am quite surprised to be honest. I've ordered my s6 edge 2 weeks ago and have been using it for a week without noticing anything.
I've read through some article a few days ago before going to sleep and noticed a terrible pink hue in the bottom half of the screen. I didn't see the problem when I was using the phone in daylight and with the brightness quite high.
So I've ordered a replacement straight away, which came in yesterday.
The screen which I got on the replacement is completely pink, its even worse than the one I already had. Now I was wondering if I just got so unlucky, but I've had 2 friends at work compare their screens to mine (one of them have the regular s6, the other has an edge) and they the exact same issue as mee, although the pink hue is near the top in the s6.
This is a dealbreaker for a phone this expensive in my opinion... If you don't see it thats fine, but once you notice it it gets really annoying.

The note 4's screen is basically the same resolution and technology and its flawless. I don't know if this is some kind of manufacturing or quality control problem but I think samsung should sort it out.
The version I've got is the s6 edge gold platinum with 32 gb of memory. I would like you guys to take a lok at your screen and let me know if you got the same thing.
The best way to do so is to set it to a decent brightness level, screen mode to go for is "basic" and look at it in the dark, on a plain white background or with some text like I did.

Hopefully just pre-production issues.
LG actually makes the best OLED panels for TVs that even Sony uses for their TVs. So, there's no reason there should be any quality issues, except LG Display is a "separate" company from the LG company that makes cell phones. However, Google gave them almost $1 billion to get another line up and running to help out with the 2017 Pixel XL. Google used Samsung displays last year, but will be using LG displays this year and LG will be making the 2017 Pixel XL. So, if you are worried, wait a few months until the Pixels especially are in production before buying an LG V30. Because Google will make them straighten out any problems.
FYI, in the reader comments, someone mentioned another reviewer PRAISED the LG V30 display as being excellent. So, the Ars Technica guy may have just gotten a lemon or again, just pre-production issues.
It's one pre production unit. Can't really pass judgement on this yet.

Correct, a sample of one. I don't stare at black screens so uneven lighting doesn't bother me in actual use. Most people have praised the screen. So, as long as it looks good when it actually displaying images, I will be happy.

There are at least two reviews that note banding and screen uniformity issues. There will be more. This issue is cause by the P-OLED manufacturing process LG employs. Screen colors are vibrant and gorgeous ... that is, until you start reducing the LED color input (or dimming the screen). Then the problems start showing up. Few will notice due to the high QHD+ screen resolution and keeping a normal screen brightness.
Side by side comparison to a Note 8 has proven this issue given that the V30 has a higher pixel density.
I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt the production units will be any different.

Yes, my light bulbs tend to turn dark when I turn them off.
These reviewers are using pre-production models, so actual retail won't be any worse and will probably be better. And even with that caveat, it's about 10/1 rave reviews.
Ok...Find me a pre-review that compares the V30's screen quality directly to another phone's screen quality. You'll find a lot of Note 8 and G6 reviews reference the V30's change to OLED but no direct OLED quality comparison.
Secondly, have you owned any P-OLED screen phones before? I have. Still have em. Their screens get better with each iteration but that banding (and graininess) is still there. OG G Flex - saturated screen bad, grainy 720p. G Flex 2 - Crispy saturated OLED colors noticeable banding, less grain on 1080p. V30 looks great brightness all the way up but....it's 1440p right?
I know the hope is real, but this is a hardware issue. Much harder to figure out than a camera software fix.
Think about this: When the V10 and V20 pre-review units went out, LG never revised their hardware - only the software was updated.
....Like I said I hope I'm wrong.

I found plenty comparing LG to Samsung OLED quality. Here's three below.
Then "worst" review is first... The only quibble mentioned on the first review (in one pre production unit) was "low light" issues, not banding nor uniformity. And the first reviewer even mentions LG"s crappy P-OLED efforts years ago and says that's not evident on this LG V30. He praises the current phone display as does the 2nd reviewer and third -- and ALL compare to Samsung's OLEDs, like the S7, S8, S8+.
1) LG V30 initial review: The no-BS flagship
I'm happy to report that the company has made a huge amount of progress over the past two years, to the point where V30's screen is almost as good as Samsung's SuperAMOLED. That sounds like faint praise, but I'm actually more than satisfied with what LG has brought to the table here. It's not Galaxy S8 good, but it's surprisingly close, and that's an achievement in itself.
Samsung is still the king of smartphone displays, there's no doubt about that. But LG's latest screen, at Quad HD+ resolution, looks fantastic and punchy, and unlike some of those older P-OLED panels, is clear enough to use outdoors in bright daylight.
If anything, this display's major weakness is in low light. It has an unfortunate tendency to crush shadow details at lower brightness levels, to the point where dark areas become illegible — and that's not great if you're watching Netflix by candlelight, or trying to judge exposure in a low-light photo. This is a disappointing holdover from older OLED efforts, and it's easily fixed in software by simply raising the floor for brightness, but that's not exactly ideal.

2) LG's Upcoming V30 May Be Its Best Smartphone Yet
“Is that the new Samsung phone?” I’ve been asked that several times the past few weeks, as I’ve been testing out LG’s upcoming V30 smartphone. And I get it, as the phone is thin, black-fronted, sleek, large, and has rounded edges with a big screen that covers a massive area. No doubt that at quick glance, the resemblance to what I've seen of the Samsung Galaxy Note8 in photos is close.
And because I regularly use a two-year-old Samsung phone, I’ve noticed that the similarities extend beyond sheer looks. For instance, the V30 has a vibrant screen. It’s the best one I’ve seen on an LG phone yet. Colors are intense while blacks are pitch dark. Photos truly pop -- something that I find beautiful in all of the latest Samsung models but lacking in recent LG phones. In this case, LG attributes that radiance to “QHD+ resolution” plus a 6-inch OLED display. Apparently, self-lighting pixels help generate infinite contrast. Sparing you the tech jargon, it’s just a terrific display that can be adjusted to be very bright -- although it doesn’t quite max out as bright as the display on my Samsung.

3) LG V30 hands-on: Believe the hype
LG is back in the game
LG has talked a lot about the improvement in image quality as it switches from LCD to OLED in the V30. For me, the six-inch, Quad HD+ display (2880 x 1440) is one of the handset’s best elements. The colors look bright and vivid, almost popping off the screen – watching HDR YouTube content on it is breathtaking.
I’ve found the contrast between black and white makes reading text so good that I’m now using the V30 instead of my iPad Air 2 to peruse web articles. The phone's screen trounces my Galaxy S7 Edge, and while I only compared the two briefly, I also preferred it to the S8+.

I'm taking it with a grain of salt. Google is also using LG OLED for the Pixel 2 XL, so they're satisfied with the quality.

You make a good point here. If Google is using lg's P-OLED panels. Then they seem to be good enough. I'm taking all this news with a grain of salt. I'll wait till the V30 actually launches in the US and US reviewers start reviewing production models.
Funny thing is that reputable tech reviewers like MKBHD, Pocket now, Mr. Mobile, etc have had nothing but praise and thye all had pre production models. I usually don't trust all these others tech sites as they are biased most of the time or too critical/take it out of proportion.
We'll see how the pixel is received and I can tell you that most of these site won't says anything about the pixel's display.
Just because Google is using them, doesn't make them great. The Nexus 6 had horrible screens.
Actually, the screen on the Nexus 6 was the main appeal. It was gorgeous at the time and it might still be my daily driver if it only had SD.

No, not really. The screen on Nexus 6 is beautiful. I have a Nexus 6. It is a tab but warm compared to other screens bit it doesn't take away from the experience at all.

I had 3 Nexus 6's and all had screen banding on gray backgrounds, just like the Galaxy s2 and S3.

Dude, looks like you had bad units all three time. My phone doesn't have that problem. And I know a lot of people who don't have the banding problem.

I had one, wife had one, son had one. I swapped mine twice. No way 5 in a row were just a "bad run".

I know there are threads about screen issues. I'm saying that I never had these issues. And I know atleast 10 others that don't have the issue. My dad, some devs and couple friends.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but let me tell you a story. I work professionally in broadcast TV, on the technical side. I know about video, and now specifically about HD video. My experience includes not only content creation but QC at the highest levels for global #1 brand.
We have the BEST equipment, the best video displays -- so I know what's good and what's crap. I watch HD video for a living you might say. Back in early 2008, I personally bought my first HD TV, a 60" Sony Bravia 1080p. It was FANTASTIC. In the years since, I've replaced it with another 60" TV, but this story is about that Sony. I did my research, and I bought that TV because it was the best TV for the money at the time. (I couldn't afford Panasonic plasma back then.)
In a forum much like this one, there were a few OCD people who found issues with that specific model Sony Bravia 1080p TVs. Light leakage, banding, blah, blah, blah. One guy took back his TV THREE TIMES to get replacements. Yet, that year, THAT TV model won Best HD TV of the Year award. I kept my TV for 6 years, finally replacing it in 2014 when the technology got so much better. There was NOTHING wrong with that TV.
So, where's the disconnect? I think some people look for flaws that aren't there and find them. Looking through the threads, these same people seem to take back ALL their TVs. I don't know why, and I don't want to disparage them. Maybe it made them feel superior to see flaws that weren't there.
But remember, I know more about video displays than they do, and how good HD video should look (FROM THE SOURCE!). Seeing that TV in my living room looking at the exact same video I had seen at the source back at work, I knew what looked "good" and what didn't. That TV looked fantastic. So, I think there were other issues going on than the actual TV. (Yes, you have to set up all HD TVs -- tweak the settings. You can't just use them out of the box, or you often have cartoonish skin tones. But these people also claimed extensive knowledge in how to set up a TV, so it wasn't that.)
Yes, there will be lemons in a production run of a million units, but those occasional lemons don't tarnish the whole model. That guy that took three back, I'm very skeptical he got three bad TVs in a row and I got the only "perfect" one. You know?
It's my profession, so video is very important to me. But right now, I have to say I take professional reviewers word over "reports" from South Korea. And if Google and many others are using LG OLED displays, and Google is using it for their XL flagship this year, they must have great quality.

See above. That's not to say there may not be early production issues, but U.S. units will be shipped later so it should be all straightened out. I'm just VERY skeptical of when a few people find "problems" like this. Then when you look at their history, they are the only ones who seem to be plagued with these problems over and over.
You got me all wrong. You can do whatever profession or job you want, doesn't make you an expert because you work with certain equipment. Car salesman work with cars all day long, doesn't make them experts on engines.
I know what I look for because I know what I pay for, I know my first s8+ had red tint on the top right side of the screen. This one don't, I've looked and looked on this one, can't find it. You can't find something that isn't there. But if something's there and you look for it, you'll find it.
Either or, to each their own.

Now I have a BOE screen but it looks absolute trash. It lacks brightness and contrast and has a pink tint towards the top and a green tint at the bottom when you view white pages. Also when I watch videos I get awful colour banding etc on gradients. Also I get odd tints etc whenever I look at the phone from almost any angle. I am so so so disappointed.
I'm just curious if anyone has a BOE screen that is as good as the original LG ones (minus screen bleed obviously) as I don't want to send this back if I'm going to get the same crappy screen back. I'm so frustrated and will never buy a Huawei product again.
I have a BOE Seems really great, nice vibrant colours, whites and Blacks are really good. Only issue I have is if you turn off the adaptive brightness the powergenie dims most Google and Facebook apps. But the last few days I have left the adaptive brightness on auto and it seems to not dim as much. I tend to push the brightness up a little bit though.
Something I have noticed, not related to the screen, is I occasionally hear a little click in the sound, I'm not sure what that is. Unless big brother is activating my microphone. ?

I must admit, I do notice the colour issue mostly in Chrome but it doesn't seem to be exclusive to it. Plus the colour banding issue is really bad on mine. For instance, at 1:28 on this video (https:// youtu.be/tO01J-M3g0U) the sky has awful banding and also an actual flickering. I guess I have a bad display. I just wonder if they will see it or just send it back. It's definetly there and anyone used to good screens would see it however my aging parents said there was nothing wrong with it so it isn't obvious to anyone not used to an OLED screen and I imagine they could easily say they see no issues. Ahhhh.
No issues with my BOE screen. If you secretly swapped it with a (good) LG I wouldn't notice.

boe screens are better imo, this lottery with LG is awful

Got my BOE 18B23, looks great - you might have a faulty one.
Looks like a faulty BOE screen...I examined mine obsessively within my 2 weeks return period and found no issues. It MIGHT be a bit less bright that LG, but I am comparing it with Youtube videos and Interweb pics, so it's a false call.
Happy so far.
Definitely looks like you have a defective BOE display. I got mine today (18B23) and it's great, at least compared to my old V30 it's much better.

I received a refund after an email to the Carphone Warehouse CEO. As the IMEI I had was from Huawei not CPW. The CPW have been absolutely fantastic to me.
I went yesterday hell bent on a pixel 3xl. But I was drawn toward the Mate 20 Pro. After much discussion with the manager I ended up walking out with a Mate 20 Pro, 18B26 and it absolutely perfect. It's what the phone should have been from the get go. Uniform, responsive, fast fingerprint scanner, sharp and vibrant.

My BOE is perfect. Actually nicer than my Note 9 and Pixel 3. LG was no better.

I have EXACTLY the same problem as you. This is also my 3rd Mate 20 Pro. First was LG, with the green glow issue, that was visible only in dark room with brightness set to minimum and grey background (I am still mad why I returned it, because it was better than BOE) . My second device had a BOE screen with very very bad screen uniformity at low brightness. And now my third Mate has also BOE screen with the same problem as yours. Lower half of the display has a green tint and the upper half has a pink tint. I dont mind if the screen has a tint, because that can be "repaired" by tweaking color temperature. But this is super annoying. When you scroll on sites with white background you can see how it goes from green to pink tint. Otherwise screen is great and therefore I also have a concern about the next device that I might get as a replacement, as this is clearly a lottery now. I am probably going to wait until like a month and then try to get a replacement (I hope they will admit something is wrong with the display) . It is not really affecting the day-to-day usage of the device, it is just my eyes and heart is hurting when looking at the display. Maybe I am just too picky, but I expect from the device which costs 1k€ to be worthy of its price in every department, especially display.

This complete echos my device and my sentiments about the whole thing. For the money this device should not have the issues. It is a fact. This is my first Huawei device and I'm almost certain it will now be my last.
I also don't know which device I would buy, instead of Mate 20 Pro. Once you get used to this IR facial recognition, fingerprint scanner becomes almost useless. It works in every conditions and it's sometimes even too fast. I've been using Mate 9 for the last 2 years and it was super fast from the first to the last day. I got used to the EMUI, gestures are awesome! Oh, and I must not forget about the wide angle lens, it's great. I was thinking about the Note 9, the best display, performance wise also very good (not on pair with Kirin 980 though), camera also very good, fingerprint scanner on the back with facial recognition that is significantly slower and on top of that it's still Samsung, which means that it will get very slow in just a year from buying it (it's also almost 100€ more in my country). Another alternative is OnePlus 6T, display is good, performance it's excellent, software is the best right now, the cameras are on pair with the Note 9, but it lacks wireless charging, IP rating, facial recognition depends only on camera (it doesn't work in the dark) and I can't get it from my carrier. Mate 20 Pro is also the King when it comes to the battery life! So from my point of view, there are no real alternatives to the Mate 20 Pro and I really don't know what to do. Part of me wants to get a replacement ASAP (I am scared of that also), but the other part wants to get something else, because this is going nowhere.
I think a lot of the XDA reports about the LG screens being defective were phony and were made to create mischief and discourage people from buying this phone.
When the gluegate reports started coming in on XDA easily 70% were from XDA accounts that were new and were opened specifically to report supposedly defective screens. How could anybody not have found that suspicious?
The supposed screen bleed issue is a joke. People were comparing the folded OLED on the Mate 20 Pro with Samsung phone screens that don't have folded OLED displays. Obviously the results are going to be different because they are not the same kind of displays. It is 100% normal to have bleed on the edges with a folded OLED display and it is also normal for the edges of the display to look lighter when doing the "uniformity test" that people were told proved the displays were defective.
If you go into the display settings it takes less than 10 seconds to make it appear that your screen has "gone hulk" and take a screenshot.
I have a UK Mate 20 Pro that was preordered before launch. It has an LG display from the initial batch that multiple XDA members claim were 100% defective. The display looks great and is not defective in any way.
A few weeks ago I purchased a 256GB global version and planned to upgrade. But that phone had a BOE display that was very inferior to the LG one so I ended up returning it. The BOE screen had washed out colors and was noticibly less bright than the LG display which is the reason people don't see screen bleed at the edges. Pixel response was also slower than the LG display.
A lot of people who participated in a "screen lottery" and kept returning M20P phones until they got one with a BOE display ultimately found that those displays had inferior color and brightness to the LG display.
I'm pretty certain there was nothing wrong with the phone you returned. Unfortunately I have seen 3 M20P phones with BOE displays and all 3 had washed out colors compared to the LG display.
